(2009/07) July 2009 MTBs

peanut

oh yah, remember to remove the skin and seeds of the tomatoes when cooking.
happy.gif
Just dump in hot boiling water, remove and put in cold water, then the skin will glide off easily.

Suddenly realize I have no idea how MR spends her time at my aunts, other than she gets at least 2 walks at void decks a day, 2 baths, 2 solid meals and needs her 250ml of milk before her 11pm bedtime.... Feel like a bad mum.... sigh

Wah we have a lot of chefs in July thread...

Lamagier, no no, MR knows mommy is making money to spend on HER, not bad mommy. So anyway, this Sunday is Mothers' Day, how are you guys celebrating? We are bringing our moms and dads to Ah Yat for lunch...

We had some friends over for dinner last night and there were six kids in total (can you imagine the noise?) and I think my son got so excited he kept waking up last night so I slept terribly
sad.gif

lamagier
don't think that way. all mums are great in one way or another. i'm sure she's well taken care by yr aunt.

i've 7 days of ML to clear by her 1st birthday from next wk onwards. hopefully i can make full use of it n not rotting with her at home... hehe

Happy Mother's Day in advance!

sorry one more question.
how do we store tofu?
usually i buy one to cook for mia and only use 1-2 spoonful...then the rest i just throw away! cos i dun know how to store them, worry spoil.

peanut
the cheese, president brand is not so salty

japa
i put the whole asparagus in the rice n water cook together
tofu i will precut them into the size i wan soak in water in tupperware to keep.. chg the water iof the tofu every day

Japa -
Another way of cooking tofu apart from putting it in porridge is to steam it, then mash and serve when cooled with fruit puree on top. Might seem weird to us but my boy loves it and it's a good way for him to get his protein/calcium.

re: posters
where could I get those nice posters on numbers, alphabets, fruits, animals, vege, etc? I suddenly realise Stacia's rm got nothing at all! Any particular topic sequence that we should start on babies first?

re: book-shelf
after buying so many books, I also realise dunno where to put it!
sad.gif
Me & hb not a "reader" but I don't want Stacia to follow us hehe
happy.gif
. I believe that environment create & affect oneself so I try to let Stacia loves reading & learning in an active way. Now, any recommendation on where to get good one (space-savvy type)? Open-shelf better or those cupboard-like?

Linsu -
If you don't have so many books yet, just get a big plastic container and put the books inside it so that Stacia can help herself. I have been reading to my boy since 3mths and he recognises some of his books now. If I say a familiar sentence, he will crawl over to the book box and pull out the right one (provided it's not at the bottom, haha). Maybe later then upgrade to cupboard or shelf.

RE: mothers' day
Am spending it more or less alone, sob, since hubby is away on a work trip. Probably will go over to my mother's place, and we can spend it together, hahaha...

Actually I am not the sentimental kind, if my hubby gives me flowers I will scold him, I'd rather he give me angpao. Ha!
happy.gif

Thanks mummies for welcoming me ya, feel a bit awkward to join only now..
happy.gif

Hi foz, i like 'xuan' as middle character first, n i have 2 name to choose, xuan en and xuan ru..
In the end decided xuan en cos it sound 'smoother' compare to xuan ru..
happy.gif

So is both urs ger? how old le?

Hi etirto, urs is also 2005 and 2009? so coincident ya.. boy/ger or ger/boy?
Sometime feel a bit upset as their age gap is quite big..
Things like they will not be together in the same kinder, only 2yrs together in pri/sec school..
I know i like think too much or think too far hor.. ha ha..
Actually trying to conceive during 2006 end but only 'make it' in 2008 Nov..
God's will ba, if not i won't have chance to join u all here liao right..
happy.gif

Hi linsu, glad to know someone working ard bugis also!

welcome Mei Yun! Never too late to join
happy.gif

Linsu, many places sell...Popular for eg has quite alot. I agree with sunnyduck, keep them in big plastic box cos can keep dirt out as well
happy.gif
I use to do that only until recently then I bought a bookshelf for my elder one cos she wanted one
happy.gif

Linsu
I already have many wall charts from Growing Fun (e.g. calendar, body's internal organs, Numbers, etc) and recently, I went to Kallang Leisure Park and saw Mandarin posters for only $2 and bought 5 (e.g. San Zi Jing, Famous Landmarks around the World, Flags of various countries, Map of China with various cities printed, Rua ko lin aka tongue twisters). I put them on every door I have and all the avail wall space in the kids' room.

As for bookshelf, I also recently bought a new one from V.Hive at Katong Mall (moving out sale), open shelf type and arrange them in such a way that board books are below so easy access to #2, English books in one section, Mandarin books in another, activity books in yet another and reference books on the top shelf.

Kiasu or not?

Pinky
It sounds like you know how to pamper yourself, maybe I should follow your footsteps! A 1.5 hrs massage sounds pretty heavenly, don't you reckon?

Meiyun
My older one is a girl (turns 4 in Sep) and my younger (and last) one is a boy (June 2009 baby).

Happy Mothers' Day, everyone!

Linsu,I got the open book shelves from giant.
Only$21...3 tiers one.open shelves better,so they can see and choose themselves.
Also it become the climbing aids...hehe...its about 60cm wide n 90cm high,
So when standing she can reach the top shelves.
But must keep an eye when they reach 1yr plus, nigel use it as ladder to go up to his bed...he thought that going up to his bed the normal way is not changelenging enough.
As for the poster, the shop at b1 forum having clearance sale.
FOZ, their activity books are fantastic and all on 40 sale.
You may want to buy for Al.

Oh ya,I think if put the books in the plastic container, cannot keep in tip top condition.the corners tend to curl etc...
I even put platic cover on the books.also its difficult to dig the book that they want.

Meiyun,
Yes also in the same year.!boy and girl.

Mothers day
Who want to celebrate with me tmr? Call me ok? Hehehe...
Mu hb flying off again tmr morning

hbb - I LOLed(Literally) when I read what your dh said and when I told my dh, he also laughed aloud.

lamagier - I think you are a great mummy esp with all the photos you take of her - they are great memories - unlike me quite hopeless with that!
And MR is looked after by people who love her, so that's OK. :)

Happy Mother's Day to all! :)

I'm going to have a belated Mother's Day "celebration" and am thinking of a staycation. Anyone stayed at Sentosa Resort and Spa recently? I'm hesitating between something in Sentosa or maybe St Regis, but I don't want to spend too much money as we'll most prob be travelling twice in the next 2 months! :-(

ETirto - Sprinkle more dust on me! Am so stressed how to get preggers...am seriously thinking of the strips/kit you suggested...

Linsu - I bought some of my posters from those neighbourhood stationery shops. And bb's room has shelves - we are very pro bookshelves (my whole study is filled with books! LOL!) BUT BUT it can collect dust in the long run so must think about that.

Hi Meiyun,
Welcome! :)

Meiyun, welcome to July mums.

Mashy, I just checked with BabyHypermart today, dropped in on my way home. The salesguy showed me the pegperego bag when my eyebrow twitched after he told me that the maclaren bag cos $120+. It's really ridiculous, the Maclaren carry bag is like USD$50 on amazon. On sight, I can see the bag can't fit the XT, cos even the Maclaren bag has review of not being able to fit the techno model (he tried to force a XT on display into the pp bag). BTW he said the retail price of the pegperego bag was $79.90. Better call and get an answer on the bag when you are getting it.

welcome, meiyun =)

happy mother's day all mummies =)

HBB, would like to check, any idea if it is ok to add garlic to baby's porridge everyday? just a little bit?

chiyojade, hv u ever consider of going tcm (traditional chinese medicine)? there are quite a few tcm able to help woman who has conceive problem (sorry dont get me wrong here).

cos of some health issue, by right i was not supposed to get pregnant as 'instructed'. but after seeing this tcm in about 1.5months, i got pregnant. even my gynae was so shocked after learning the news. this tcm i seeing, even circle out dates when is a good time to 'try', instead of u trying & trying at wrong dates. :p

pm me if u need contact. i'm not able to share too much info here cos i hv stalker in this thread.
happy.gif

lina
some ppl do add garlic while some dun
i tink it depend on ur bb body
i do not add to edna's porridge cos her tummy always v bloated.scare willc reate more wind. if ur bb no such problem i tink ok to add garlic. jus rem to cook thoroughly as its v strong on the tummy when raw

thanks hbb.. do u still use thermal flask if not going out? is it better to use thermal flask or refrigerate the remainders? cos i thought can keep in flask for only 5 hours then food starts to deteriorate. either way, i feel bit guilty for not making it 'fresh' the second time though. tell me its ok! :D

japa, i put 1/2 tablespoon to one pot for the day. can the chef mamas also advise if we can give millet everyday? thanks!

newmum
ya tat at the tiger food jar lady say..nt mre than 5hrs..bt my sis been keeping it in flask for whole day.main thg is e porridge cannot be contaminated by stuff lilke dirty spoon, saliva n etc..then it cn b kept longer.yes if at hm i still put in thermal flask.

japa
usualy 1 meal of porridge i use 2tbsp of rice...if i wan to add millet, i put 1tbsp riceand 3/4 millet.millet is smaller in grain size..so need lesser since e air space in btween each grain is lesser.bt actualy u replace 1:1 aso cn..nt big diff in amt since we cook tiny portion... i giv edna millet everyday too...

Happy Mother's Day ladies!
happy.gif

Japa -
I think fruit like mango, pureed apple/pear/prunes, papaya etc are all fine to give with tofu. Depends on your baby's tastes. Mine won't eat the tofu on its own like that but enjoys it with fruit. It's a good way of using up leftover tofu, because I try not to keep it too long, even though I change water daily.
