i gave chicken some time back already. but stopped recently cos my #1 keeps having cough on and off. as i cooked for both at the same time, i avoided it. i use normal chicken. bought those minced chicken from cold storage too. i'm not really bothered by all those hormone jabs cos it's hard to avoid all these in our society. if like that, means the eggs also got to avoid. what else?? pork? hmmm... like that, the choice becomes very limited. if go organix, my pocket big big hole. and sooner or later, they will be eating it. that's my personal opinion.

lamagier/mashy
is the crayola paints washable? i'm very scared if i take out, the other monkey will snatch n play n dirty the wall and floor. he already dirtied my wall with scratches from his toy cars and buses
sad.gif

mashy
my aquadoodle is very dirty already leh. the pens got stuck and i can't open up to add water. hmmm.. yes... i shd take out n let them make prints with their hands/legs.good idea.

noelle
38degrees seem high for fever due to teething. last time amanda also like that. PD said if teething, it's only 37.4 or 37.5 only. and it turned out to be viral fever.

noelle i dun tink char is havign teethign fever. usualy teething is onli low grade fever like 37.5. could v some sort of viral fever or infection.

ehh i dun tink shld giv tat drink to noelle liao cos gt red dates.. esp now the heat wave. u nless urside is not that hot then ok to drink a bit.. but nxt time no need to add red date to that drink.

mashy dun have to get panic over wat to cook lar.. giv them same food everyday also can one... edna hav almost same vege everyday cos 1 pack of spinach is sooo many... cant fin in a day so she usual have same vege for few days. jus tat i alt btw fish/chicken/egg..
every mon/weds/fri i giv her egg yolk with fish
tuses/thurs/sat i giv her chicken/pork
leafy vege stuff she get every day. 1 red vege every day if possible too. so i alternate between capiscum and beetroot.
sometimes wolfberry.

now intro bean stuff slowly. but cant seem to find the pearl beans out thr now

i am also gg to buy some black sesame to grind into powder n add to her porridge amongst the long list of food stuff i wan to buy for her to eat. she is a weird girl she doesnt liek sweet thg.. but she loves spring onions! ran out of greens once and so i put that in..she was jumping for more... LOL

today i made 'super porridge' as stated in the book i was reading. add in brown rice w millets to the rice and cook together.. she like it too

the beef essence is jus take minced beef put over an upside down glass bowl in a pot and steam.. juice will b collected underneatht the bowl then use tat to add to the porridge. jus liek making chicken essence

ahh i got aquadoodle! can let edna use! thanx for suggestion!!!

bbethan
the crayola is supposed to b washable but i guess must washoff asap not leave it thr for too long?

Thanks Mashy, Bbethan & HBB for the replies on the fever. Gave her some tylenol before putting her to bed, *sigh* hope it's not some bad infection
sad.gif

HBB, thanks for the info, I won't put red dates in the next rd. It's getting warm, or rather hot, very quickly here. Not good leh, both the gals are sick, even DH is coming down wif s'thing. Do u use pear to make the drink for heaty cough?

Wow....alot of things to learn from u gals......i didn't even know we can give red dates n wolfberries

hmm....besides halal n non-halal chicken, so there is organic chicken too? *faint*....I only use kampong chicken bought from wet market for my babies.

Hbb, talking abt brown rice, can we mix it with normal white rice to make porridge?

noelle

for the pear drink, just skip the red dates. Use the chuan bei, nan xing, bei xing and pear.

HBB

hmm, when u collect the water from underneath the glass bowl, is it enough to make porridge? Oh, capsicum, i've not tried that. Which ones to use? Green yellow or red? The mini ones? I scared she may not like it. She rejected the Japanese sweet potato yesterday.
sad.gif

bbethan
yes, they've washable ones. It should be written on the labels. If u still not sure abt it, they've those invisible ink type. The ink doesn't appear unless it's on the designated area in their special books. I gave that to my boy to colour during the initial stages when he will colour my table and floor too. It's called Color Wonder.

poohbear
threadfin is ma yau yu in cantonese... chinese is wu yu, hokkien is ngau hee
yin yu is the white bait. i am tinking of starting her on tat too.. cos of calcium but seems salty to me even aft numerous washing

mashy i use all 3 colour! LOL i nvr bother if she wan to eat it anot. i just give. esp those vege.. i told her liek it anot she must eat.. so far no prob from her. even the cereal thou she dislike the sweet apple or pear (she shudder when i giv her) she still fin them up.. cos sh eknow she will have to starve till nxt feed if she dun fin them

the beef extract depend hw much beef u use so hard to say if its enuff to use for porridge .. if not enuff jus add in water.

noelle
ya the pear drink skip the red dates, use onli nan bei xin, pear, wu hua gua aka figs, chuan bei
its gd for both heaty n cold cough becos ths is a nourshing drink. its neutral in properties.
the fig help to clear phlegm

beverly
yes u can mix brown rice w normal rice to cook porridge. liek i mention earlier today i use briwn rice w rice rice and some millet to make porridge.. added spinach, tofu, fish n egg yolk to make it a complete meal.
but bear in mind brown rice take longer to cook so u might either wan to soak it 1st (or overnite) then cook together or cook the mixture for a longer period of time

Poohbear > I know threadfin is ngor her in hokkien. I dunno what yin yu is? But I know threadfin in Cantonese sounds completely different from ngor hee. Can't remember.

Milk Bottle Strike
T still refuses to even let his lips touch the teat of the milk bottle, but he will drink from the pigeon or combi straw cup, but take very long - 30-60mins to finish a 100-240ml feed, with lotsa clowning around/singing/clapping/tv.

My helper tried to add 1 Tbsp of cereal into the ebm in the straw cup, and he drinks it up fast.

Any mummies have any advice if adding 1 tbsp of cereal into milk (100-240ml) is ok??

This is day 4 of "make T hungry so he will drink his milk". Heartpain. These 4 days he only eats 1.5 solid meals. No breakfast nor lunch solids.
My parents say his cheeks are less chubby now
sad.gif

muffingirl
i tink it prob take himanother week or so before he will take the bottle
adding cereal to straw cup to suck is ok i guess but might not make it work to make him accept the bottle. just what i tot.. but no harm trying lar! so long as he drinks!!! hehe

Bbethan,
The crayola paint quite light, kinda like jelly. Not like the normal paint we use in art & craft lessons. Washes out very easily. Doesn't stain the skin.

lamagier
MR ok w using paint>edna still hate it despite she have more than 5 encounter w it.. teacher say she hate mess!!!! jus like papa... teacher say one not i say hahahahaaa

lamagier
ok... shall go robinsons tmrw n take a look.

mashy
i've those invisible ones. it leaves oily stains on the tiles. N my gal likes to grab it and put inher mouth.

hbb
hmm... don't quite picture how to put the beef into upside down bowl. nevermind, shall ask my mum how she prepares the chicken essence then. btw, is it as oily as the chicken essence?

how to add beetroot into porridge? just cut into cubes n put in a few? curious how it taste with porridge.

beverly
i'm mixing white rice with brown rice n red rice for her porridge. i've to grind the brown n red rice so that it's more mashy. otherwise, the husk from the red rice will just break out and made it difficult to eat.

bbethan
i jus cut 1 big piece n put in porrogde to cook together aft cooking then i mash it up.. its sweetish... i dun cut my vege up while cookin as i dun wan loss of nutrients. but u can cut it up lar.. hehe

Bbethan
Toys r us got buy 2 get another free for crayola, incl paints set, markers, crayonm
So quite good deal.

Fish
I gave naomi the fish like white baits but bigger n fatter.
Not salted one,its fresh from wet market.1 fish about 4cm long
HBB what fish is that?is it silver fish? Was told its high in calcium.

JG paints stain clothes! So I always put the oversized tee over my clothes.
Got 1 time kenna my silk blouse...can't be saved. Stupid me wearing that to class

Hi ladies, remember me? I used to be quite active here when we were all preggers, feels so long ago! I disappeared from the forum after delivery - had some bad post-natal depression and other issues, but that's all much better now and I've bounced back and am enjoying my little boy!

Hope to jump back into the discussion and share tips and experiences w everyone!

Welcome back sunny duck & Jillian.

Jillian,
Think I came back from Phuket the day you left. Yah, scorching weather & the taxi fares were exorbitant (may be due to my lack of megotiating skills)

hbb
where to buy millet? tried to find at spices shop near my plc but they said dun hv. Can't seem to find in ntuc also.

etirto
our books arrived this morning! YAYYYY!!! I'll keep first & bring in our next gathering. If u need them earlier, can let me know.

wow really a lot of recipies to learn from all of you.

I will put pumpkin, brocooli or cauliflower into chicken porridge too.

Planning to introd asparagus.

sunnyduck
welcome back.

linsu
millets normally found in organic sections in NTUC and supermarkets.

lamagier/etirto
i just went to MPH to take a look.
happy.gif

will make a trip to toysrus this weekend and see if can get anything there.

re millets
How does it taste n what's the texture like? Mixed in porridge? I'm too lazy to dig out my Super Baby Food to read up.

Jillian,
I was at Pacific Club Resort. Pretty ok, S$60 a night, but just that it's at a quiet stretch along Karon Beach, so had trouble going out. Hotel didn't offer free transport out and only taxis were on call. Sigh. I spent more money on taxis than on food

bbethan
thx!
happy.gif
it's powder kinda thing right?

re: fish
my 'sensitive' gal very funny.. eat threadfin got rashes, so I chg to red snapper & she's fine.. so I thot snappers family shud be alright.. then got one day, i fed her with white snapper, rashes appear again haha.. so now, sticking to red snapper first.. will introduce other fishes later on.. good thing is, she could take egg yolk now! where she also got rashes when i first introduced it abt 2mths ago.. guess she's not ready yet, just like the fishes..

I remembered someone mentioned abt feeding radish to baby some time ago.. can we actually give that now? I was abt to buy then this supermarket auntie told me it's 'liang' for babies..

huai shan - can bbies eat this now ? my genius MIL been feeding this to bb for 3 months. told her a million times its liang, so she adds ginger. genius. where got bb eat huai shan ? anyway, my bb was coughing for 2-3 weeks and i told her to stop giving huai shan. so she did. and dunno coincidence or not, but bb stop coughing abt a week after that.

RE: porridge

I also find myself feeding the same things here and there. Egg yolk, fish (threadfin, whitebait, salmon), pork, tofu. Usually mixed in with a veggie like peas, corn, carrot, pumpkin or some sort of leafy veg.

Am thinking of starting baby on simple pasta to encourage chewing. Think he can handle it cos I've tried the Heinz Cheesy Pasta food and it's quite lumpy.

Anyone tried cheese? I am keen to introduce it, but I'm worried about the salt content. We can't give them those processed Kraft cheese right?

sunnyduck

i've been giving my gal pasta. I've given her laughing cow cheese, cottage cheese and mozarella cheese. If you're concerned abt processed cheese, then just give cottage cheese or mozarella lor. My gal seemed ok with laughing cow as we also didn't feed a lot each time.

sunnyduck,
I give the laughing cow one one in a while cos mummies here said before that it was one of the least salty. Usually about half a cube. Her daddy gobbles up the rest

I bought bellamy's baby pasta, but my girl didn't like. Waiting to introduce it again this weekend.
Hee, I'm on the move most weekend, so most of the time, too lazy to cook porridge. SO just feed her cereal =p

Mashy -
Did you use the Bellamy's baby pasta? Think I saw a box meant for babies 8m+. What do you cook it with, just tomato sauce?

Okay, think will try mozzarella and Laughing Cow cheese. I love cheese - will eat up the rest if baby rejects it. Haha!
happy.gif

lamagier
i thought laughing cow cheese is one of the most salty ones? i also give her a bit once in a while.
tried the president slice ones... really tasteless. even my #1 says not nice
sad.gif

i tried cooking bellamy pasta too... the smallest one... star pasta. first time, she's ok. 2nd time, she refused to eat. don't know is it becos i add a food jar in as the sauce. going to try this weekend again. do u all find the pasta gets very soft n soggy after cooking?

sunnyduck

no, i didn't use that. I use ABC pasta. Can get it at the supermarket pasta section. It's very small and easy for bb to eat.

I don't use tomato sauce. I cooked my own sauce using ripe tomatoes, onions, carrots etc and puree it after done. Then i mix it with the pasta. There was once i used pumpkin to replace tomatoes and she liked it too. I did a cream based sauce once but she didn't quite fancy that. When I feel lazy, I just use jar food as the sauce since she refused to eat any of the jar food that i bought unless i mix it with porridge or pasta.

ya, laughing cow is probably saltier, so i usually give abt 1-2 cubes. Mozarella are totally tasteless. hahaha. Singapore doesn't carry many cottage cheese brands, only a low fat one which i just tried. My gal didn't quite like that.

bbethan
u can put the pasta into cold water after cooking to prevent it from getting soggy.

mashy
the prob is after the pasta is cooked and with all the stirring to prevent it from sticking to the base of the saucepan, it seems to melt into the water. the pasta also break up into even smaller bits. cannot even pass thru cold water. did i overcook or overstir?

Mashy -
Ooh, ABC pasta was one of my favourite foods as a kid. I shall try that out too. ;) I guess I can make tomato sauce, puree it, and then freeze it? Pumpkin is a good idea too.

I tried one of those Annabel Karmel recipes for salmon cooked in milk. Smelled and tasted very nice (to me), nice creamy consistency, but my boy rejected it! Only ate it when I mixed it with rice cereal. I think it was the texture, not the smell/taste because he has had salmon in his porridge before w/o problems. Maybe he has Asian tastebuds...

I'm trying to diversify his food, not just porridge and cereal all the time, so boring even for me.

bbethan

perhaps u overcooked it then. I don't have this prob with ABC pasta. And why does it stick to the saucepan? U should have sufficient water for them to be cooked in. Mine have never stuck onto the base before leh...

sunnyduck

yes, u can freeze the sauce. I do that too when i cook a huge pot of it.

I ever cooked fish in milk then top it with mashed potatoes and baked it with mozarella cheese toppings. My elder boy loves it. If not for the salt that i added for seasoning, i think my gal also can eat. ;) Argh, so long never cook for the family already coz my gal takes up so much of my time. Shall find time to cook again.

I think I read somewhere that soft pasta makes a good finger food. Am planning on trying that too, maybe with fusili pasta.

Annabel Karmel says soft steamed carrot pieces are good finger foods but I'm afraid of choking...

Bbethan, how to cook sishen powder with porridge? my boy is on milk strike, porridge strike, cereal strike. Everything is reduced by more than half for a week already. Everyone says he lost weight. I'm getting worried.

peanut

The most direct way is to add sugar, but since we're not introducing them that at this stage, maybe get the redder ones? And smaller tomatoes are sweeter i think.

etirto
ya the white bait is high in clacium

bestberries
huaishan is aneutral herbs can gviv to bb. edna used to take daily... sinseh say its alrite

linsu
yes radish is liang. I avoid giving it to edna.

peanut
yes i use sishen in porridge. i use it 3 times a week.. else too many thg in the porridge liao LOL
yet to giv tomatoes cos it might cos allergy to edna since she gt eczema .

pasta not onli can cook in tomato sauce
u can also cook n mix w carrot puree, peas or corn puree.. i cook the pasta and mix w brocolli n president brand cheese(less salty).. edna will b jumping up n down in her seat waiting for the spoon

Peanut -
The Honey Queen cherry tomatoes sold at NTUC are usually v sweet. I always eat them raw, can eat half a packet in one sitting.

Can I ask if there's any specific way to prepare broccoli? I usually steam the florets then puree... but he hates the taste.

Am thinking of mixing it with cheese a-la Annabel Karmel, wonder if that will work.

sunnyduck
i usualy will cook in the porridge. used to steam n puree but no longer do tat
yes if u mix w cheese its yum!!!

HBB-
You mean you cut into small chunks then just add into the porridge? I am trying to transition him into eating lumpier food and chewing.

actualy i din cut(again is e more i cut the more nutrient is lost kind of reason)..i pluck it off e stem n put in porridge to cook.whn feedin then use spoon mash if needed.but usualy quite lumpy
