i'm going to let her try soon too.

japa

i tried egg yolk last weekend. hard boiled egg style. mixed into her porridge.

i let my gal tried blueberries last weekend too! she can put in her mouth n chew. wonder if i can stop all the pureeing soon. been giving her all the new food without following the 4 day rule. bad... *fingers crossed*

japa
i gave almost three quarter to 1 yolk. the egg i got is quite small. N cos she got 1 big bowl of porridge, so by mixing each spoon, easily finish up 1 yolk.

japa ya i will giv hard boil egg yolk also hehe prob iwill mash it all up n stir into porridge..easier forme.

bbethan ya if Amanda dun gagged then i tink ok not to blend.. last tiem i use to blend the asparagus for edna now she eat it as it is.. i jus mash it up before i feed her w spoon.. tink i can keep my blender v soon.. onli neeed blend the corns n prob peas/beans in future

RE: Egg yolk
I gave hard boiled as well as mix with oats/porridge.

RE: Pasta
Do we have to specially buy baby pasta? I didn't know that. Given XY few times adult pasta already.

RE: 4 day rule
I have never done it at all. Had wanted to try it at first but since XY refuse to open mouth in the beginning means no chance to even do it. Now that she eats, I also can't be bothered to do it. I believe this is more for western society. Our asian community don't seem to practise this method.

HBB: You mix minced pork with water before cooking then will not lump together? Just now I blend the pork and put inside the pot to cook with porridge. Whole thing lump together. Was wondering how to avoid that. Thanks for the tip.

RE: Blender
Hate to clean the blades after mincing pork. Actually I don't blend/puree anything for XY now. Is it still nec to do so at 8 months?

Chitojade: Thanks for the link, I finally found out that Max likes the baby porridge so shall stock up some for him. Is it me or does the packaging on some of her stuff look different?

Jillian,
YEAH! The packaging looks different, so I asked her about the pasta (mainly that) because the one that I bought has a little window where you can see the pasta and the pics that she posted doesn't have that; BUT then she replied saying that hers does have that window, so maybe she just copied and pasted from the website?

BTW I asked her a question about the porridge, but no reply yet, so since M likes it, can you tell me if it's the porridge as we in Singapore know it or the porridge as in the kid you get in Scotland, which is basically like quaker oats?
Because if it's the latter, can feed from breakfast and I want to buy it, but if it's the former, then I'm not interested....

Thanks Chiyojade for the link. Anyone giving Bellamy fm to baby? Does this come in smaller size? Would like to let XY try it cuz she is SUPER fussy abt fm. My bm running low supply so hv to start intro again.

No one using Four Leaf brand? Acc to the lady at Four Seasons, is supposed to be a good one (Australian). Guess I will stick to buying this brand. The 300g organic oats with barley only $10.50.

josephine
yes try addign water to the pork before u cook =)
pasta: yes the ones fr bellamy one the lady say is brown rice pasta which is easier to digest.. our adult pasta is wheat pasta. im nt taking any chance.. giv her the brown rice one 1st!!!!

Chiyojade: its a bit like the healthy times cereal, but fluffy and smooth. Its not the chinese kind of porridge, neither is it like oats. I'll pass you some to let Y try. I fed it to Max the other day at Tanglin tree , its easy to take out cos I just put it in a container, take along some stage 2 food to mix in and wherever I am, just add warm water and that's it.

RE: Cruising & Falling
My hb let K do a "control" fall and now what he does when he is tired of crusing and wants to sit back down, he uses on hand to touch the floor, supporting him, then let go of the other hand that was hanging on the couch so he doesn't "bump" his butt.

Winnie, speedy recovery to your nana.. is it more teeth comging?
Pink, hoep u feel better soon too!

Japa, I hope u did not boil the water together with the pasta, but instead, bring the water to boil then drop the pasta in to cook.

Am I blind or is the SP web designer stupid?
I went to the link of SP to register for the EOP (Employer's Orientation Programme) so I can be "certified" to employ a FDW, after the registration and payment, no link to start the online course leh?! Scroll and search, still find nothing... Why cant they just open the page automatically? or at least provide a link to the start of the course when the receipt is generated! I have now used 40mins of my time applying ans searching, my time is not cheap leh, Mr (stupid) web designer, in 5mins I would have finished the course and be certified!! *Angry*

And Woah! online course cost $30 and if I make my way to the 3hrs course in their classroom, I only need to pay $20, what logic is this right? $20 for 3hrs w/o facilitator and $30 for 45mins w/o facilitator?!?! facilitator must be damn cheap these days!!! *Bitchy because angry*

TJE, I tried pediasure to Nigel last time about 1 yrs old when his appetite for solid is very poor. but it made the situation worse, apparently, pediasure is like meal replacement, so the babies will get full without eating solid.

Kim, bot only Boys, Naomi stand up on high chair too. especially those at restaurant which don't have shoulder strap, she will put on leg up and kneel, and quickly stand up by holding the backrest. so difficult to handle her nowadays, she's born in the year of worms, always wriggles here and there. hehhe. Now she stands all the time, my IL said don't let her stand too long because the legs are not strong enough, but very diff as she always pulling up and stand! somemore now she can stand up on her own and she 'forget' that she's standing without holding. when she remember that, she will smashed back to her fleshy butt and climb again.

japa, when we cook pasta/spagetti/noodle, after boiled then rinse with normal water so that it's not sticky, right?

Hmm. TJE, my paediatric dentist buddy says that a lot of her early childhood caries (badly decayed teeth in young kids) drink Pediasure. She doesn't know if it is a coincidence or if that drinking pediasure is more prone to getying early childhood caries.
But she is staying away from that for her kids and so am I!

It is very ke lian to see these young kids with severe tooth decay at the paediatric dentist - cos they are in pain and they don't understand what's going on and cannot cooperate. Many times they have to go under GA for dental treatment like fillings or root canal treatment or multiple extractions.

Someone asked if more calcium in baby's diet will cause baby to teeth early? Not true.
It is just dental development - some are faster than others. Faster or slower doesn't matter.

Someone else asked if crooked baby teeth = even more crooked permanent teeth - yes. Baby teeth should have visible spacing between them, especially in front. Got spacing = gd chance of straight permanent teeth.
No spaces but straight baby teeth = crooked permanent teeth
crooked baby teeth = very crooked permanent teeth.

T's 5th tooth (lower one) has just erupted 3 days ago.

By the way, this planning for a 1st bday celebration is really a lot of work and headache! Almost like planning for a wedding on a smaller scale!!!!

etirto
amanda also like that leh. cannot stop moving. sit highchair also can push herself up and try to stand. sit bumbo, she'll climb herself out and then attempt to climb in and stand in it. always want to stand and now she's cruising as if she think she's very pro liao... but the fact is she's still wobbly at times. yest we left the safety gate ajar and she attempts to climb up the stairs! she's behaving more like a boy than ethan!

muffingal

i dun think it's due to drinking pediasure. Rather parents are too lazy to make their kids brush their teeth before bedtime. I've friends whose kids have decayed teeth coz they sleep with a milk bottle and do dream feeds.

I've started my elder boy on Pediasure coz he wasn't putting on much wt. I make sure he drinks his pediasure only after meal times or between meals. It doesn't affect his meal times like this.

Etirto
that day i forgot to buckle her and she stood up in the high chair! Luckily i saw her in time and rushed over before anything bad happens.

thanks muffingirl

somehow you solved one of my qns.

re Pediasure
do we just substitute the normal milk feed with it instead of supplementing on top of their meal? i'm thinking of starting my boy on it too cos he's been picky on his food. asking him to eat is a fighting session for me nowadays. i hope my gal don't turn out to be like him when she's older.

muffingirl
oh no... i'm the one asking abt crowding. ethan's teeth was very nice initially. in fact, there are gaps in between. but once the molars are out, i see that his teeth esp the lower ones are all crooked already.

bbethan

i think we're supposed to substitute the normal milk feed with it. COz their tummy is only this size. He may not wanna drink it on top of their meal times.

mashy
ok... maybe i shd call up abbott to clarify.
cos he's already not eating a lot during meal time... sometimes just a few mouth of rice and that's it.

bbethan

how abt his favourite food? Does he eat more of his favourite food? maybe u should try giving him his favourites. My boy had the same prob. Didn't like to eat. But when we serve at least one of his favourites, he will eat it up.

Is your boy skinny? I'm seeing a dietitian at KKH and she suggested many ways to help him eat such as introducing dips, limit dinner time, adding extra spoon of oil into their soup, butter into rice etc to up their calories.

Mashy,
I have to agree with you abt not brushing enough and doing dream feed. My late mum used to tell me my cousin same age as me had tooth decay at very very young age, like 3 or 4yo. Apparently my aunt used to leave the milk bottle in her mouth eventhough she's asleep. Talking abt dream feed, I myself guilty abt it till recent 2 nights I decided to stop doing so since anyway my gal don't really want it. We had to keep "forcing" her and she'll drink like 70-80ml so no point doing it. Think we started doing it abt 2 or 3 months back cuz she always wake up for milk ard 5am so we thought by giving her 1 at 12-1am, can make her fuller.

Bellamy is selling for $44 at the BP thread.

gina

it's not necc pediasure that gives them badly decayed teeth. My boy is on pediasure and he has perfectly fine teeth. Just observe good dental habits.

RE: Eating problem
I guess not everyone can understand that. Only a few of us kana this thing so understandable that everyone else thought is otherwise. I was trying hard to adhere to the 4 day rule but XY just won't open her mouth or she'll cry badly when I try to force her so came to a point as long as she willing to eat, I'll feed her anything. Tell the truth I even bought Da Paolo pasta sauce at paragon basement and feed her with adult pasta. Don't care whatever contents cuz she just LOVES it and open mouth before I can get ready. It was in fact by accident that I discovered she's willing to eat porridge. I do try every few days to give her till she finally eats and eversince then, she seems to be able to eat whatever glooey thing I cook so I was very very contented.

talk abt dental habits, mummies how u brush yr babies teeth now?
i am using the pigeon step 2 toothbrush.
am i suppose to let her use toothpaste now?

the brushing teeth is a bit messy also. Mia keep brushing her gums instead of her teeth, cos maybe she think it's a teether?? then i will be the one brushing her teeth but like not very thorough. so am abit worried.
i saw before something like a finger rubber thing that u wear then can stick my finger into her mouth to brush her teeth...will that be more effective?

Wow japa you are fast! I just starting using the silicone thing few days back only. Actually I bought the pigeon step 1 way before I got the silicone thing but like dunno how to use it. Don't think need to use toothpaste now in case they swallow it. I just ordered a flouride free toothpaste from drugstore but not sure when to start introduce it though.

TJE,
If you don't mind, can you send me a few scoops Bellamy fm in a ziplock bag? I'll buy it from you and pay for postage. Sorry ah very cheapskate here cuz I hv so far thrown a few cans of fm as XY refuse to drink till expire. Now that bm supply going down, have to train her drink fm.

Twinkle,
Are you the mummy keen on cica care? Sorry I forgotten who. My friend can get it around $100. Not sure the actual retail price though. You want it?

of course i don't want ethan to have badly decayed teeth! i guess the rule is brush their teeth, don't go to sleep with the bottle in the mouth and practise good dental hygiene. and i'm definitely not going let him skip eating solid and rely on pediasure to be full. yes... he's getting more and more picky in food now that's why i concern abt his nutrition. he can refused his porridge or eat just a few mouthful of rice with soup. he picks out all the meat & veg. sometimes he ate just a slice of bread for dinner. he doesn't reject solids... just v selective over the food he wants to eat. headache!!.. both my kids are like that, low weight gain and when they don't eat well, that gets even more worrying.

mashy
nowadays, to get him to finish a bowl of porridge, i hv to give in to his fav yoghurt, cereals stuff like cornflakes during meal time. very bad habit. always got to raise my voice at times... no good *shake head*

japa
i'm using the silicon finger brush w the toothpaste that comes with it.

bbethan

can he eat rice? my boy hates porridge so i stopped giving him porridge and gave him rice and noodles which he preferred. Perhaps give the yoghurt and cereal as reward? like if he finishes the food, he gets to have them as reward?

josephine
totally understand your predicament. My elder boy hates food too and I've to be very creative to get him to eat.

mashy
yes.. he eats, but cannot finish whole bowl. the prob with him eating rice is he picks out some of the food like veg/meat. end up eat very little and not balanced. moreover, i don't cook on weekdays. so porridge is something i can prepare in morning and feed him when we return home in the evening. i always feel parents who's toddlers eat and eat without such prob are so blessed. hope all our babies don't turn out like him... kekeke. toddlerhood woes. anyway, i'm dropping u a pm to bring this offline.

I did not say that drinking pediasure will definitely give early tooth decay, but it's just an observation from my paediatric dentist buddy.

Toothpaste - no toothpaste for kids until they have reache the developmental milestone of being able to spit out voluntarily.
Our babies are way too young. Give toothpaste, they will only swallow.
Definitely not as this age.

There are toothpaste specially for baby. These are consumable cos there is no way to expect baby to spit it out. Such as First Teeth baby toothpaste. My Pd encourage brushing teeth as young as now to help them get into the habit of brushing teeth. So for those who are keen on giving toothpaste, there are approved-safe-ones out there.

Mashy, so cica care not cost so much? I got to check with my friend. If she's not getting it any cheaper then no point. Thanks for pointing out

BbEthan,
haha yar lor, had to mix the Bellamy's cereal with another brand's cereal to mask the harsh smell and taste.

Chiyojade,
No problem, just sharing what I did. hehe think we need to still work on reducing the size of our diaper bag.

Couldn't answer you about the price for the pasta because I didn't note it down, but I saw it at Vivo's CS ytd, there's 2 types, don't have the brown rice one. The Bellamy organic pasta is $8.75 I think, and veg pasta is $8.25.
