Finally hv time to surf... somemore multi-tasking..
Josephine, I am not from med field but it was a part of job requirement then.. I couldn't wait to get out of the half yearly test on AED & BCLS then, now I kinda miss it!!Hahaha!!
Chiyojade, actually, after I missed the opportunity to perform CPR, I did ask my company if we should do the full CPR in public, and the answer I got was "NO". They recommend that full CPR be done only to our customers when we have the proper med equiptment, e.g. mask from our doctor's kit or Emergency First Aid kit as such mask prevents any form of fluid from passing from victim to rescuer. When in public, they recommend solely compression as when compression is done, there are very little air that will be pushed in oand out of the lungs as well. They logic they give was quite funny "becos we are the company's "property" as such we should not expose ourselves to any form of danger when performing CPR".
I have a colleague who had guilt from unable to save his own father from heart attack had decided to perform CPR on a customer when he was already promounced dead.. And the dead vicim actually had blood that went into his mouth, and he was subjected to periodical blood test. He told us, it made him felt "unclean" and didn;t even want to touch his wife and kids... So when you want to safe a live, be prepared there will be some form of sacrifice. Even when the recue is unsucessful, it sometimes leaves a sense of guilt on the recuer although we know we had done our best.
In Singapore, they cannot sure anyone who failed in saving life, but in USA, yes! The ppl there are CRAZY!! And yes, when you are certified being CPR & BCLS proficient, you have a card.
Jillian, at one point I even carry surgical gloves with me in case I need to address bleeding.. hahaha!!! Job hazard!
RE: FEEDING SPOON & FEED DIRECT FR JAR
K only takes when food is hot although he is a fast eater. So I usually feed from my little food jar. I have melamine and silicon. My favorite is Beaba although the handle is heavier and may flip over and cause mess if I am using the baby bowl. But when I am out, I just feed himwith metal teaspoon.
RE: HICCUPS
I was told that hiccups are caused by "confused brain signal". I.e. the throat is trying to swallow and the brain is sending signal to push the air or whatever out, so we need to drink water to allow the brain to identify the action to swallow. That's why after sipping water for a long time will stop the hiccups.
My mom is worse in this, she kept telling us we have to blow (in a "ha" manner) onto the soft part of baby's head to stop. My aunty is worst, she'll tear a small piece of paper, wet and paste on baby's head (I am still laughing about this as I type...)
Twinkle, oh dear!! I only have pain when I blow my clogged sinus. My wound swee-swee cos doc gave me some plaster that prevents keloid. I have no itch, redness and swelling either.. I think u want to call the doc that operate on you, better get another doze of steroid to prevent keloid.. My neighbor told me after she delivered her first, her healed wound even will have liquid coming out. So better get it fixed now.
