twinkle

for #1, i had keloid. very ugly and fat. SO when i delivered #2, i told my gynae to give me steroids to prevent it from forming. After that I had to put on the cica care for the longest time. I'm still putting it on. Well, it helped for one side of the scar, but the other side still formed the keloid. Fed up.

josephine
it looks like an elevated bump on the scar. Like a worm had decided to attach itself onto u.

I didn't take painkillers for this round. Didn't feel a lot of pain like the previous one. It was a breeze.
happy.gif
But think the pain meant here was the nudging pain at the scar. Not very painful, but can feel it.

Mashy,
then I don't hv it. Maybe the silicon plaster worked? Maybe you can try it. My gynae was very "hiao". Remove stitches for me cuz he said plastic surgery all remove stitches so turn out nicer. Don't remove also can but remove nicer and the plaster he didn't ask me want or not. Straightaway paste and charge me for it.

twinkle
mine no pain.

josephine
i didn't put any plaster after the removal of the stitch leh. only given some cream to apply. same like mashy, i also had quite thick keloid from #1. i didn't know it will form cos then the covering gynae didn't advise or tell me the need to take care too. so when my gynae saw for #2, he told me he'll clean up all the keloids when stitching up and given me steriods too to prevent keloids this time. in fact can see that the covering gynae really did a bad job, so much so that my gynae has done a lot of removal and there's a bit scarring which he said will fade off. that's why i'm wondering when will it be.

mashy
one part of mine seems to be fading but still can see redness. another part seems more raised up but not like keloids leh. don't know if it's forming.

i had a bad fall 8yrs ago and used cica care (aka silicon plaster) on my knee for 9mths religiously. The keloid was levelled (As in you can't see the bump) but the discolored skin still remains

Finally hv time to surf... somemore multi-tasking..

Josephine, I am not from med field but it was a part of job requirement then.. I couldn't wait to get out of the half yearly test on AED & BCLS then, now I kinda miss it!!Hahaha!!
Chiyojade, actually, after I missed the opportunity to perform CPR, I did ask my company if we should do the full CPR in public, and the answer I got was "NO". They recommend that full CPR be done only to our customers when we have the proper med equiptment, e.g. mask from our doctor's kit or Emergency First Aid kit as such mask prevents any form of fluid from passing from victim to rescuer. When in public, they recommend solely compression as when compression is done, there are very little air that will be pushed in oand out of the lungs as well. They logic they give was quite funny "becos we are the company's "property" as such we should not expose ourselves to any form of danger when performing CPR".
I have a colleague who had guilt from unable to save his own father from heart attack had decided to perform CPR on a customer when he was already promounced dead.. And the dead vicim actually had blood that went into his mouth, and he was subjected to periodical blood test. He told us, it made him felt "unclean" and didn;t even want to touch his wife and kids... So when you want to safe a live, be prepared there will be some form of sacrifice. Even when the recue is unsucessful, it sometimes leaves a sense of guilt on the recuer although we know we had done our best.
In Singapore, they cannot sure anyone who failed in saving life, but in USA, yes! The ppl there are CRAZY!! And yes, when you are certified being CPR & BCLS proficient, you have a card.
Jillian, at one point I even carry surgical gloves with me in case I need to address bleeding.. hahaha!!! Job hazard!

RE: FEEDING SPOON & FEED DIRECT FR JAR
K only takes when food is hot although he is a fast eater. So I usually feed from my little food jar. I have melamine and silicon. My favorite is Beaba although the handle is heavier and may flip over and cause mess if I am using the baby bowl. But when I am out, I just feed himwith metal teaspoon.

RE: HICCUPS
I was told that hiccups are caused by "confused brain signal". I.e. the throat is trying to swallow and the brain is sending signal to push the air or whatever out, so we need to drink water to allow the brain to identify the action to swallow. That's why after sipping water for a long time will stop the hiccups.
My mom is worse in this, she kept telling us we have to blow (in a "ha" manner) onto the soft part of baby's head to stop. My aunty is worst, she'll tear a small piece of paper, wet and paste on baby's head (I am still laughing about this as I type...)

Twinkle, oh dear!! I only have pain when I blow my clogged sinus. My wound swee-swee cos doc gave me some plaster that prevents keloid. I have no itch, redness and swelling either.. I think u want to call the doc that operate on you, better get another doze of steroid to prevent keloid.. My neighbor told me after she delivered her first, her healed wound even will have liquid coming out. So better get it fixed now.

Bestberries, I sms u when I on way to church..

Ok, session over, now go ready to go church.. catch you girls again.

kim
lol yes my mum will 'ha' at edna's head also hahahahaaa

ehh edna is complete angmoh i tell u !
she refuse even warm porridge! she will give the 'ouch its v hot u know' kind of look n spit it out! despite its luke warm!!!!

Kim, the paste paper one is so funny.

HBB, then my XY must be a true blue Chinese. Loves fish porridge so much that laughs while eating. In fact I am so shocked cuz of her previous reject spoon saga.

i'm also looking for a good reliable part time maid, please share contacts please. the one i have now suddenly "heart not here", can stare at the coffee table for a long time when i'm not looking, then when i come out, she just pretend wipe wipe again, dunno if maid work long will start give attitude, sigh.

josephine
edna is ok w her porridge but she jus wan it cold lor.. v weird rite? and so fishy when cold!!
im makin fish stock now.. added 2 slice of ginger in so tat it will not b fishy(hopefully)

Kim
Yes!! My in laws do the "ha" thing too! But they do it when my shanna coughs thou, if hiccups, same thing, asked me give water.

hbb
oh! dat day went my ex colleague's hse, she cooked porridge for my nana & also added ginger! Lol! She told me can get rid of the fishy smell & the porridge tastes slightly sweeter, hmm... i din try it yet...

today the daddy went fishing, hope can catch some decent fish for the ger!

hahaha, i think the reason why the 'ha' thing may work is coz it gave the bb a fright. :p U know, that's how we stop our own hiccups too. Get shocked.

ur hubby likes fishing too?!
where is rompin? m'sia ah?
at least the trip is not wasted, i got a feeling my hubby will come back empty handed today! LOLz!

Did u add other stuff other than fish into the porridge? Try pumpkin + fish?

japa i jus boil the fish bones w some ginger.. add some vege in as well(clearing my fridge!)
i added the same old vege..celery, carrot, corn.

thanks mummies for offering tel. nos. i'll put the nos. on standby. my runaway maid went to the agent. i took half day today in the midst of all the madness in the office. went to agency, to collect the runaway maid. yup i broght her home. but i also chose a replacement maid. coming in 3 weeks. yes risk that she'll runaway again, but i really need the extra hands. urgh... what a day.

The hiccoughs thing about the paper and the "ha"is really funny!! I was laughing when I read it!!

After reading about the CPR, OK, I feel a little less annoyed with my friend for not helping out...

bestberries,
You must have had an awful day!!!!! I hope it'll be OK in the next few days!

Josephine/mashy/kim

I totally have no idea what cica care/silicon plaster you all were talking about. My gynae only prescribe cream (centellase ointment) for me.
sad.gif

can someone email me how the plaster look like? [email protected]

mashy/bbethan

Can ask, since you have bad experience having keloid for #1, why do you still choose c-sec for #2? not scare or frighten?

twinkle
my 1st op was done by a diff gynae. 2nd time, my gynae promised me to clean it up and give me a nice one as he'll inject anti-keloid stuff to prevent them. went thru once already.... not scared lah.

I also had some skin coloured thingy to put on my scar but my scar is still there. No big keloid, but the skin IS slightly raised in certain areas. So some parts of my scar are lighter than others.

Hmmm...now am thinking maybe I should go and put this silicon thingy again...

hello mummies,

may i know if any of you have tried using the Thermos sippy cup for your bubs? Is it any good? So many out there like mag mag etc but thought thermos is a good idea cos can keep warm.. not sure if the stainless steel can withstand many throws though and whether it leaks.. appreciate your advice!

HBB,
I din get also but last year they send me letter said I'm auto-file liao. But my husband also auto-file, but he got a notification letter. Just log on and file just in case.

newmum,
I don't recommend the Thermos stainless steel sippy. The surface does ding if you drop it on hard surfaces, though I don't think it'll leak cos it takes a lot of energy from the child to suck out the liquid. It's a thermo cup, not recommended to put hot liquids in it to feed the child cos the heat can burn. If you want to keep things cold in there, then it's probably best. In any case, if you do want one, I got a BNIB pink/purple one with handles. PM me if you do.

RE: First Aid course
Thanks Lina for the info!

RE: Keloid (GAlore)
Twinkle, you actuallu need to have an operation to remove the keloid if your current wound was not treated properly and resulted in Keloid. Thats's why most mom will have it done during the subsequent C-section. I strongly suggest you forget about going back to this GYNEA!! I come across too many women who had keloid ended up changing their doc for the subsequent pregnancy. I really think my is very swee swee.. I hae checked, the plaster I used was CEREDERM, it was prescribed on the day I had the thread removed. It comes in a thick strip (5*30cm) and according to the pakage instructions, we cut it into 4 pcs (quater) and each small strip will last for a week. But my doc told me to cut into a 1*15cm strips so I yeild 10 small strips from each one which lasted 10 weeks. My massgae lady was laughing at me for being a "cheap-skate".. I only finished 1 large strip and kept the other for emergency.. I am not sure if such plaster will stil be effective for the cut more than 8 mths ago though.

Twinkle, thanks for the link. I will go check later when I get a chance to sit here.

RE: IRAS
Oh dear, I haven declare my income from last year, and the maternity benefits.. so pampered from my previous company when I need not file anything.. Deadline is 16? not 1? ok ok, I better go log in now..

Today I ddunno why I keep burning things I am cooking. Double boil K's lunch and dunno why the rice din cook well in time, so the water wdried up and burn the cloth I placed under the mini pot. Then place the outer pot on my sink to release the smoke, and after that I accidentally placed my hand right where the pot was previously placed, and scaled my hand. Make myself porridge and the bottom of my porridge was dried up and smell like claypot porridge now...

RE: LG MAT
I got my LG MAT yesterday, quickly opened and lay on top my carpet, I have no regret buying it manz.. Immediately kept my playpen. Now waiting for my contractor to come measure the planter and make a waterproof platform to level the floor so I can change the facing of the L-shape couch.. then next is a gate that can come from one panel of my wall to the otherside, and change my TV to a flat screen!!! WOW! I am so useful again!

Kim,
We're going to rearrange the furniture in our living rm to make more space for the LOs too. What kinda gate are you using?

Kim, your renovation plan sounds good to me. I want do something more child-friendly to my little flat too, but the more I think about it, the more I feel I should sell or rent my place when I can.

Hi Sam,

THanks for your advice. Had my reservations though i kinda liked the stainless steel BPA free idea of thermos sippy. But not sure how my girl will take to it. Will prob give it a miss then.

re: porridge
mummies, pls help. i put water + rice in pot, when water's boiling, i pour into slow cooker and cook for about 1hr 45min (off fire cos seemed 2b bubbling, can hear some sound coming out) still quite grainy leh, how ah? must sieve? bon seems 2b taking it fine (he has 8 teeth now, i mesh a bit b4 feeding). but my mum said he'll get indigestion, & gastric problems later ... is it true? or old wives' tale?

i'm using royal umbrella white rice, didn't grind into powder 2 cook.

lina
i dun believe will get indigestion.. if he cannot digest then it will come out as rice grain liao!! u already use slow cooekr to cook mroe than 1 hour.. i feel its more than enuff. i tink its a matter of the baby can swallow anot thou

moreover u already mesh a bit... i did nt mesh at all.. i boil for about 20 mins max and edna haven got no tooth until yester her tiny weeny right bottom tooth erupted slightly.

wat u can do its aft u off the slow cooker jus leave it inside the slow cooker covered. the heat inside will continue to cook the porridge further giving u mashy porridge.

ya tje
which brand is xin mi? how to tell from the package tt it is xin mi?

tks hbb, b4 i get xin mi i'll try like what u say leave inside the slow cooker for a while. so far no rice grain out yet, so i guess it's digesting fine? hmmm.
edna's tooth is out? oh, u're gg 2 miss her toothless smile ...

lina
actualy slow cooker can keep urporridge warm for quite long one so dun need to serve immediately

onli 1 tooth cut thru cos her cyst broke and it aided her tooth in coming out faster..but less than 2mm i tink base on wat my finger feel. she v stingy.. refuse let mi see lor!
the other one cant come out at all leh!!!!

Kim,
Hi^5 I also used CEREDERM. Yes cut into half to use since it's so long don't waste it. I also burn XY's porridge. On it at 230pm and went out. Reached home abt 730pm. Whole porridge dry up and upper part black. Tried my luck by cooking oats with fish and soft tofu and she finished it all! She does love fish sooo much. Anything cooked with fish she finish it all. I had my Parklon mat (2nd one) delivered 2 days back. Love it so much. I join it with the smaller pce and both are lying in living room tv area.

Twinkle, sorry I'm not able to contact my friend these few days. Think she went on diving trip during this long weekend. Will call her next week.

RE: Tiger food jar
Is it really so good? I didn't buy it the other time cuz XY not interested in porridge earlier. Can check with the mummies if want to add veggies/meat/fish, when to add?

RE: Slow cooker
If I wanna go out for a few hours is it advisable to use it to cook porridge? Thought I very clever to use it then come home can feed her but who knows backfired. Thankfully I hv oats as a backup. Anyone can advise if it's possible to cook porridge on slow cooker and off it only few hours later? Can adding more water help?

HBB, I searched thoroughly but can only find 1 type that has 3 servings. Selling for $10 though.
Is it this one? http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y236/pinkdewy/DSCF6311.jpg

Pinky, why you need nanny? You have PM.

RE: Storage of fish/meat
How do you mummies store the fish if let's say you bought a few meals worth of fish? Pack in individual bags and freeze or just put in fridge normal compartment? What I did so far is leave in normal compartment. Think is wrong right?

HBB, I saw your video. Very good but I don't hv pressure cooker leh. WMF some more leh. hehe. So the ramen is the same as you bought? I also bought some seawood which is on super offer cuz going to expire. Cook it next week. Cheat my hubby tell him it's from Muratama. hahaha

I m using my phone to type so I can't recall which mommy asked what.. So do forgive k.

Re: new rice
packet rice that are sd in s'mkts usually dun specify the type of grain, u need to get fr provision shop. I bought a kg each time for only $2.80.
Last sat I only hv 10mins to boil the rice cos in hurry to go out. Whn I cam back aft 4 hrs, the rice was already in consistency desired!! I double boil by putting rice I. A mini clay pot (bowl size), the put in small WMF stock pot with water n cloth. U can also place a s/steel rack n steam. I usually steam my rice if I m cooking only for myself.

Re: renovation
I have not researched on the type of gate/divider to fence off the living yet.. Will post whn I hv some idea..

Re: cerederm
I cut into half (divide the length) then cut into 5cm wide so each strip last till bb turn 3mth..
I was v concern abt keloid whn my neighbor shared her experience, I was already asking my doc to make sure I won't hv even before I deliver.. (Although my was unplanned csect, I incl this in my birth plan...)

Re: Tiger food jar
I used my once, put the boiling stock onto rice n kept for 7hrs, yes cooked thru. Kitty did forcouple of hrs, rice dint cooked to the point that Lucius was taking--failed. I stop using cos it's too big for k's intake, overkill. I hv a mini one that works very well for the amt he needs, but I hv to boil the rice with stock in pot before tfer( that's y hv the burning incident this am)

HBB, so ma Edna is indeed teething!!!! Good to hear it's speedy like k.. Painless!!
