(2009/07) July 2009 MTBs

Till recently, my mum, who is a certified child-carer, was working in a nearby child care centre to pass her time, and help out a friend who is working at that child care centre, was telling me stories about the centre. Some children are easy to care for and get along with others, while some will require more attention and my mum says this is sometimes part of the child's character and insecurity, and require more assurance to settle down. She tells me that the child is often very smart, and curious, and just need distractions to interest them, and she would often give such children more time to calm down because they will cry constantly and disrupt the nap time of other more easy-going children.

Unfortunately, managers at the centre consider that as favouritism, and say the child should be treated the same as the others, allow them to cry till their eyes become red, and puffy or even pat them hard on the back to stop the crying. In the end, my mum couldn't tolerate the practice of the managers, and decided to stop working and offered to look after me and her grandchild when she's born. While of course I'm happy to know that, it makes me feel pretty sad about such centres training somewhat "well-behaved clones" because parents think of them either as places for their children to learn socialising or to look after while they are at work. It's going to put me into a dilemma some day when I have to get back to work full-time.

Ok HBB, i will check with my mum her recipe when i manage to go home. Then share with u all k...

Yan, hope u can find a good nanny soon!

Princess
I have spoken to the guy Adrian.. He advise mummies to call him 2 weeks-1month before confinement ends.. Also he told me the agent fee is only a one time $30 and the rest will be from the nanny to the agent.. I have also told him i only wish to have a nanny that is 1:1 taking care of bb and he said tats not a proble.. Really life saver... Think u can try approach him for help as the agent fee is really not much..

Jamie
Thanks so much for the contact..

Hi Jamie.. great to see another Dr Douglas Ong patient!!..hehe!!

dear ladies, i'm a childcare teacher myself.. so mind if i voice something out on e infant care topic?... mmm, i myself as a childcare teacher i oso worry in putting my child in an infant care.. cos not every teacher u see is every teacher u know well.. some teachers they do act in front n do other things at the back... but of cos.. not all are like tat.. so somehow we should still have some trust in the teachers rite? but for my concern of infant care, its more to my bb cant talk n if the teacher is really like not doing her job, he cant tell me too..tats wad i worry about actually..
anw, i heard of some infant care tat have really nice teachers n qualified nurses to look aft the children there..so..i myself am also still deciding if we wanna place in an infant care..

but the concern is also abt the price of infant care... abt 1000? before subsidy... so.. its quite costly..unlike childcare..

hmm, before this becomes a vendetta towards child carers in general, it is a stressful situation for any institution to look after large groups of children or even just one. There is utmost appreciation for people willing to offer their services in an area where they are very much needed so that others can get back to work. Personally, I like to maintain a professional working life myself, so it's something I have to consider when I want to return to work full-time.

Dear Mashy,

I am new here.Pls add me too.

jeslyn
yuppie. infant care is more exp. tats why mayb more ppl rather put it wif a nanny. actualli for nanny & infant care, i feel that both also haf a risk of being abused and such. but the ting is, at least nanny u haf a 1-1 attention and also no virus spreading around. even wif government subsisdy, after the subsidy u stil haf to pae around 600-700 as different infant care they charge differently.

enchante
hees. thanks ya. im jus glad at least ive support from ppl around me ^^ mayb tats how i manage to survive for the 5 months!

after read so many comments for infant care, I prefer a nanny, the price should be about same as for infant care gov give $600 subsidy. so after subsidy both should be around $550 to $600 but nanny is 1 to 1 service.

Yan,

same as pprincess, dont think they can find a good nanny is only 1 month time.

Gd Morning mummies!

Talking abt infant care, is there any age limit that we can send our bb there?

Wow...So many jul MTBs!!!!

wow! So many additions suddenly. Now there's 77 July MTBs, wow, the hospital is going to be crowded.

So cool, we have the same doc!! Yes, Dr Douglas Ong is very nice doc isnt he!
So, where are you going for your consultation? I am going for the night consultations in the evening at Ten Mile Junction. :)

Hi pprincess, I stayed at Bt Panjang Segar Area.
happy.gif
I am just so glad I found Douglas Ong thru my friend's recommendation. Its so near my place, I can pop by to buy my supplements anytime! So where do you stay??
We can form support group around our area soon! haha, so cute!
Cheers!!

Thanks pprincess & lamagier for the link!

I'm still deciding whether i can afford to take NPL for the 1st year to take care of my bb cox dun wish to leave it to the care of the maid alone. And the bb is still so young. I feel sorry to leave him in the infant care since so young...

Hi Jamie,

Me resides in BP 2. Mine is @ Ring Road.

Mashy,

Can include me in the list as well?

Nick : Esty

happy.gif
yan is staying at yew tee too. i tink in this forum, alreadi haf a CCK support group liaos. hees. i used to b in contact and drop by the thread. but then bcos then im not pregnant so feel veri left out and left.

kitty
i wish i can also take NPL. but i no work = no money = baby eat air. LOL. i oli haf 2 months of maternity leave. hence i take extra 1 month of NPL to make it baby turn 3 months then i go back to work lor. sigh. i wish i wish i wish. is realli sad tat u haf to leave such a small baby in the care of others

ya pprincess, i think this is the dilemma that most mummies will face. But for money, sometimes no choice... hope our bb can understand.

I've jus called TMC to push my gynae visit 2 days earlier to this afternoon. Cox i'm quite worried for my bb who hav nt be actively moving since the hike i went on mon. Haiz...hope everything is ok! Anyway, i think i'm oso dying to see him haha.

Hi Kitty,
Same thing here. And also afraid won't be able to keep my job if I take 1 year NPL cos only been with my current company for 2 years... And the husband thinks it's silly of me to worry about quality of care for bb in strangers hands. He has faith in quality of infant care since it's a company.

Hi pprincess
Hope everything will turn out fine for you like Mashy's did. I came from poor family and lived in kampong. Understand how tough life can get struggling to get by with little money. Jia you jia you.

I understand you have some problems, that's why cannot marry yet. Might be busybody and silly of me to ask, but wehy not just ROM first? Then will get the full 4 month maternity leave? Willl have to take some stress off you and have more time to make arrangements for bb care after you go back to work

hi mashy

can u add me to the list:

nick: melody
birth order:#1
gynae:dr john tee, kkh
gender:f
edd:20 jul 09

tnx!

so much info here!really helps a lot for 1st time mom like me...

re : infant care vs nanny

personally i prefer nanny probably i heard & seen some gd nannies.

infant care, bbs tend 2 get sick, not 2 say under nanny's care, bb wont get sick. but i tink the possiblitly is lower if were 2 compare.

4 my #1, i started 2 look 4 nanny oni abt 2 weeks b4 i go back 2 work. abit lazy here. ;p but am reali glad 2 find a wonderful nanny during my 1st attempt. went 2 mit her personally wif hb and #1, immediately agreed 2 let her tk care of my #1. no regrets after tat.
happy.gif

but nw wif #2, almost double the rate. so boh bian but 2 get a maid. hope 2 get a gd 1. *pray hard*

kitty
yuppies. i onli hope my baby will be guai guai. dun cry tat much and sayang mummy! hahas. as u all know. boy tend to b more active and more mischievious mar.
dun worriew abt ur check up. maybe ur baby is also tired after the hike =p

lamagier
i cant ROM or aniting first. i find im rather suay in my case. 1 week before mum pass awae i got pregnant. 1 week after mum pass awae i found out im pregnant. when i found out im pregnant, im onli 0.5 weeks awae to my bf's court sentence. suay or not? LOL. im 21 this yr and my bf is 1yr younger then me which is 20 this yr, and his mother doesn let me for no reasons, jus hate at first sight i guess. and his family knows tat im pregnant but refuse to acknowledge not let me visit him while he is serving his sentence.
of cuz i veri much wan to marry him & he wish to marry me too. but if 1 of his parents doesn wan to sign, there's nothin we can do also. sigh.

Hi mummies,
Are you interested to buy the beanie pillows that tien posted? I am sourcing for one for my gal. Previously, my aunt use to sew it for my #1. But, pai sey to trouble her again...

Thanks pprincess, my hb was asking him why he so lazy the whole day yest...hee

pprincess, you are a very strong mother!!! Why are they so harsh to u? ...dun even let u visit your bf
sad.gif
I think the best thing now is to take gd care of yourself & your bb. Then when your bf completed his sent, you all can get united
happy.gif
Do let us know if u need help k!

Going down for a hair cut soon....chat with u all later.

kitty
my baby also not v active tis 2 days
duno y!!!
i was kind of worried cos i usualy get tickled left right by baby evryday for many tims but since monday bb been not tickling me.. i kind of suspect she chg her position fr horizzontal to vertical ... cos i onli can feel a bit of movement in middle of tummy but not much...

HBB & Kitty,

Dont wori ya... sometimes it happens even to me. I can understand especially when bb doesnt move so much we get worried. Did you monitor bb kicks? As long as gt 10 kicks a day... it should be fine. Try talking to yr bb n i believe he/she will respond to u soon.

Hi pprincess,
It is really fortunate you have supportive friends and colleagues. Hopefully things will go smoothly for you and you and bf can marry when he turns 21.

Hi Kitty,
Hope you will have fun looking at bb later. Can't wait for my 6 month checkup & see bb....

hi Han bao bao,
Realize my bb also like yours. Some days active, some days don't really feel anything at all. Hopefully will feel bb more consistently as bb grow older.....

Was on the NEL yesterday, stood in front of priority seat and still the lady in the seat look away and ignore me... Best thing was after she alighted, another lady snatch the seat and started to read papers... Husband said maybe I just look fat.... The day when someone finally offer ne a seat, I must go celebrate... 5.5months preggers and yet to get a seat

kitty
hahas. tell ur hb baby is the same as him lazy lor! =p
his family is harsh for no reason. im not sure also. i know the mother definitely dun like me bcos the moment she saw me she scolded me and chase me out of the house. we thought is tat we jus start to pak tor she cannt accept. but 2yrs plus down the road still the same. sigh. dun worriew! if i need help i will cry out loud! hees.

HBB
mayb baby realli change position. i never realli bother abt my baby movement leh. as long as i can feel the hiccup after meals i will feel ok. bcos sometimes i imagine too much. like if the movement and kicks is veri mild i will imagine isit baby feeling veri bad inside and hence doing the last struggle? sometimes i feel im jus tinkin too much! watch too much show liaos. hahas

Jeslyn: I used to be a childcare teacher, too
:) My view is that most parents prefer nannies because of personalised attention which in an infant care, the attention is divided among 3 babies, cause I think the ratio for some is 1:3.

In the past when the government is not so stringent on the regulations, most infant care teachers are housewives or untrained but there must be a registered nurse in the centre.

But now, the situation is changing, alot of infant care teachers are now trained with certificate in infant care.

The downside of infant care is the cost. It is pretty expensive even after subsidies and most parents would choose nanny over infant care because of this.

Sheryl: I think someone posted that they are selling the beanie pillows. I'm staying in punggol and I saw someone selling it when I went to the shopping mall yesterday. But not sure how much they are selling. Think they come in different sizes though.

sheryl... i literaly talkin n talkin ask her why haven wake up hahahahaaaa

lamagier
mine hor usualy everyday is super active one.. onli tis 2 days duno y so quiet...

aiyo u must b realy slim that y ppl cant see u r preggy manz.. for mi if ppl stillc ant see...sth wrong w their eye manz!

pprincess
quite impt to monitor the movement... .if too long no much movement.. must tell gynae
then gotto scan n see anythg wrong liek cord round the neck or wat...

Lamagier: I think its hard for S'poreans to give up their seats...they are 'glued' to them feigning ignorance or pretence, two days ago, I was on the bus and this mummy had 3 children and a pram, one boy abt 6 yrs, girl abt 4 yr and carrying an infant. Nobody gave up the seat to her. Sitting beside me was a working lady fidgeting on her handphone smsing and the other was an indian lady with a huge birthday present. To my left was an old lady.

What a gracious society .... ;-P

Hi Han Bao bao,
Not slim now... haha, starting to get fleshy with all the 'baby fat'. I think my tummy very big liao... sigh.... some colleagues tell me it's obvious, some say no. Maybe mrt commuters just think I'm just fat, need to stand more to exercise.

Wear maternity wear end up tummy get lost under all the big big clothes, look even less pregnant... so I'm still wearing my normal clothes...

Some figures from the Motherhood chinese publication of Guide to Pregnancy & Babycare, daily number of baby movements for ard 24 weeks - 200 times, to 32 weeks - 575 times (at peak), to full term - reduced to 282 times, but most times, the expectant mother will not feel so much of the movements.

Each child has their own body clock, usually morning the least, and picks up during the day to most active from 6 to 10, usually after meals most activity observeed because of heightened blood sugar, baby is "fed" and hence stretchs.

The chapter for 6 months pregnancy also lists a gauge for monitoring activity. After dinner (to 28 weeks), try monitoring for 10 movements over 120 minutes (if it takes more than 2 hours for the 10 movements might consider having a check with the gynae).

Don't know how reliable the figures are, but nicer than not knowing how many times is enough I guess.

Any mummies wearing tummy binders after delivery? Where to get them and is it effective?

Tulip,

My bb "poke" her head or butt out at my tummy when my hb was playing some dance music over the PC.. think naturally bb are drawn to sound. Both me and hb are trying to see which type of music my bb respond to from techno, house, retro to new age.. after a while she just got quiet..tink too bored liao or irritated by us..haha..

lamagier,
You wear normal clothes still not obvious to others? I guess u must really wear those tight fitting clothes then ppl can see and give up their seats to u... hehe. Sometimes, I do encounter the same scenarois as you.

lamagier
my colleagues bought me a few maternity clothing as gift. and i look realli pregnant in it thou. more then when i wear normal clothing. guess bcos it's different tummy shape. hahas. but anyway, i guess at this stage where our tummy is not that big yet, ppl will tink twice bfore gifing up seats as not sure isit we're pregnant or jus haf big belly.

Sam, i read yr post regarding bb movements... e movements of 10 times should be monitored over 120 mins? I didnt, only monitor 10 kicks throughout the day...

Koko, i saw the post...bt wondering if any shops outside sell. I always saw last time before I was preggie. Punggol is too far for mi coz I stay in Woodlands. I try sourcing, if not will just purchased online.
