(2009/07) July 2009 MTBs

One more thing BabyEthan, what goodies did you receive upon discharge?

MA giving out baby bath tub and a few other things.
I asked GE, they said they will give a bag, but duno what's inside??!! how could they not know!?!?
So I guess, muz be things like a sample of milk powder, diaper that's all. Can't expect a travel bag with thermal flask, milk powder container right? HAHA! Fat hope! During the stay, GE give foc a whole pack of diaper and a can of milk power incase not breastfeeding. Other hospi same or charging for these?

Yan,
yah..i guess a few of us are facing the same prob.. and yup, i tot so too..if its cold we could actually microwave it?..haha.. i dono which to choose.. both of us still deciding over KCK or Jessie..*in a dilemma..=S

Kitty,
yah, they do have one portion.. KCK have it for one person's share too...

Mashy,
i don have the time.. cos i need to leave on days as early as 6 to reach my childcare at 7am.. oni one of the days im going at 9 cos im ending work at 7pm..=( if i needa prepare the things i tink i'll go jelly.haha

anw, Yan and Pe@nut, i would recommend Mount A.. cos frm the different comments i've collected frm my parents in the childcare it seems quite a few prefers Mount A to Mount E/GleanE.. and Peanut is right, i heard frm the parents saying the nurses there are very nice and caring towards patient too.. n the pices are cheaper than Mount E/GleanE..and i had an op for the removal of the 'fats tumour' last yr by Dr Douglas Ong at Mount A.. n the nurses there are really nice as they will keep checking on u to make sure u are totally okay b4 u are discharged n no matter wad u request they try their best to gif it to u..tats wad i like.. Additional Pt: its a catholic hospital(we're catholic), n has a chapel on its first flr.. my hubbie prayed in there for the whole surgery n its really peaceful there..

yes peanut, one of the mums in e childcare told me she delievered in Mount A and got quite a few free stuffs including bb bathtub. but her fren who gave birth abt same time in Mount E didnt get anything and she commented 'why Mount E more ex but got nothing...'haha..

anw peanut, how u got to go for the tour? i'm interested to go n take a look at Mount A ...

Peanut
Mt E is the one i mention that has a garden with water fountain... My stay there last year was only 1 nite and only my hubby and visitor enjoy it la... Whahaahahahahaah... I dun think we will have a chance to enjoy any of the greenery... more for u to impress your visitor... So overall i do not think i will stay at Mt E again.. Seriously overprice!!!

There's a number on the Mount Alvernia site to call for arranging a tour visit, 6347 6636.
I didn't get to visit the single-bedded suites that were recently refurbished, just got to peep at a 2-bedder room. Personally, I don't like hospitals and very sensitive to cold and chill. The rooms (beds and delivery rooms) are definitely bigger than TMC, since TMC in general is really cramped out for space. It was generally peaceful in the MtA. wards' environment, plenty of light during the day. The guide was a very nice lady too. Only exception during my visit in Dec'08 was that they were over-hauling the A&E section, and the lift to wards run along the way to the A&E and the drilling was getting my nerves, but that should be long over by the time we deliver anyways.

My main pull reason to deliver at TMC is because it's fairly easy for me to get there via PIE (I stay in the east), and my gynae's clinic is in the building, so if it's gonna be a long delivery or I need help, she can get to me fairly quick to look in on my progress.

Thanks HBB

Thanks Sam... maybe i shud call n go take a look at the maternity wards dere..hahaha..

Yan,
did u go to KCK's site and have a look at their menu? anw my hubbie was thinking we mite jus stick to KCK to try out first as they've got a menu for us whereas Jessie doesnt have as they depend on their morning marketing..i'll call KCK tmr..let u noe more?
=)

I wasn't charged. I just told them i wasn't well enuf to attend during my stay. So they let me attend subsequently foc.

I think the diapers already included in the bill leh. Don't think they are so nice to give foc. I got a free diaper bag which contains some magazines, brochures, samples of detergent, bath gel, diapers, etc. All shd be sponsored by those companies. Nothing much in it. I don't remember they give milk samples too. Thought they are usually not allowed to give cos shd encourage breastfeeding. Maybe can get on request.

Just to share, my friend also complaining abt GlenE's lactation service. She has not suff milk and baby wasn't latching well. The lactation consultant just tell her to give formula n didn't really offer much advise how to latch or get more milk. She was so upset wif her.

For me, I would choose TMC if given a choice. Nice environment + the nurses there seems to be much more professional. Only thing i don't like is their 2-bedded room is really cramp.

No comments on Mt A cos only went there once to visit my colleague. The place looked very dark to me. but heard they just renovated. So shdn't be too bad.

Jeslyn
Hmm.. I havent gone to have a look at KCK website.. Ya do update.. Im keen to try out tinkat svc and if gd think its a gd way to settle our daily dnr.. now its ok im not working but once i start work its really very sianz to think what to have for dinner esp if work late..

Babyethan
Wa.. Lactation consultant ask mummies to give up n give formula!!! Tats really terrible and first time i hear... Then she shouldnt b a lactation consultant rather shld go work for dumex!!! Forget GlenE then, is out for sure now coz im first time mum and will need all the advise and help from the nurses and lactation consultants regarding breastfeeding..

I delivered my #1 in Gleneagles. The LC was a nice lady leh, kept teaching me the right way and encouraging me to try breastfeeding.

But I do wan 2 highlight a particular malay nurse (frm her looks, she looks young), she told me 2 give my #1 formula or glucose drink, she said tat my #1 been crying alot in the baby ward due to hunger. I told her tat newborns can survive without anyting for 3 days. She told me no, oni 1 day at most. I still insist no formula or glucose drink. The next day i check wif the LC, she say i'm right abt the 3 days no milk.

Oh 1 most frustrating ting is tat malay nurse told me my bb dunno hw 2 latch on me, cant latch etc. Being a new unexperienced mummy, this is the last thing i wan 2 hear! so i told her 2 get lost & i will handle my bb myself! Super pissed off.

esther
the nurse is so bad lor. she thought latchin so easi? so easi then wad for we need to haf someone to teach us how to latch on. guess tat hospital staff should also b more encouraging.

pprincess,

ya lor, lucky other nurses r v gd. i told other nurse who come 2 attend 2 me tat my gal dunno hw 2 latch, the other nurse told me immediately who say ur gal cant latch! she teach me and indeed my gal latch on me! i was very happy and grateful to the nurse.

koko,

i choose 2 bedded. IMO, not cramped, and maybe I'm lucky i had the whole room for myself till the day when i discharged. hee..

re : CL

jz 2 share my previous xperience, had tis CL who is not v encouraging during my bf. she kept saying my milk not enuff, bb still hungry. i was damn upset and pissed off!

i knw my milk not enuff and i was alreadi stressing mysef 2 latch and pump tat earlier 1st 2 weeks. reali demoralizing 2 hear such comments!

Esther: Thanks cause I've to decide on Wed the type of room. I think I'll ask the nurse to arrange for me a visit to the delivery and maternity ward first.

RE: BF Milk
Apparently, all should have milk, its a matter of how 'hardworking' one is. Initially milk not enough is due to lack of stimulation and one cannot stop trying to let the baby latch/pump. If stop, then the brain gets the message tt milk is not necessary, so worse, become no milk flow at all.

HBB, which timing u attend for Mrs Wong's Sat Parentcraft class? i attended the 7 pm to 9pm class started on 21st march too.

in the class, i saw some caring hubbies sayang their preggy wives in the class...most are also v gentle helping the wives with the exercises. so great to see everyone so loving.
happy.gif

i also feel like a queen when my hubby is massaging my legs n hands for me...LOL.... :p

kittyng, next Sat's ParentCraft class is held in AMK hub, #03-22, the shop name is called The Little Skool.

did you receive the letter of the location/changes last week? somehow ParentCraft always miss out my name n didn't mail the letter to me, so i keep calling them.

re: bf milk

i had a similar issue with my previous CL but then i educated her... hhahah together with hubby and when the 'milk' finally came in (about 2 weeks later) she was so surprised to see the amt of milk. after that she was convinced that latching on all the time that baby cries is a good thing and help with the milk production... :p end up i had to throw milk away coz baby could not finish in time.

esty

actually i learnt that stress will decrease your supply so must not stress leh!

also i 'scolded' her saying if i want to bf then i will do it my way... :p

elijah's mummy

ya i knw tat stress will reduce milk tremendously. but i had no 1 2 help or advise me. i kept telling myself cannot stress.

so i hope tis time round, wif the past 1 yr little accumulated experience, i can bf my #2.

Jeslyn
Jessie's food suits our taste bud the best. Tried the other 2 caterers which food tastes horrible & even worse than those sold @food court/kopitiam. About taste, i think it's pretty subjective. Heard of KCK 1st time here. Does it has good comments too? Maybe we'd try if already sick w/ Jessie's food
happy.gif

Variety wise, not too bad but also not too impressing. They're quite generous in giving 2 meats, 1 veg & soup twice a week (eventhough the deal is 1 meat, 2 veg & soup).

Hope it helps!

esty

i also intend to bf the coming baby... but am wondering if my boy will be jealous coz till now he is still comfort sucking.... hahah in fact he will unbutton or pull at my shirt when he is hungry or thirsty... ( think for him, my boobs are food bins!)

Any idea how to sleep comfortably at night? I already put 4 pillows surround & sleeping on my left side but nowadays I feel very uncomfortable at my back/spine
sad.gif
Thinking to get the maternity pillow but seems like very hard to find in Spore. Anyone knows where to get it?

esty

err sort of leh... i cant seem to wean him off leh.... but not totally latched.... currently only managed to give him partial formula. but definitely when he goes to sleep is latched on...

sometimes its just me coz my boy is coming 13 mths only.

LS

want to check out the Baby Jack Pillow... think my mum used something like that years ago.... :p for me... i make hubby sleep with him hand massaging my back... :p

elijah's mummy,

good! reali admire ur persistence. I oni manage 2 bf till my gal turned 7mths old.

btw ur boy borned in feb 08 rite? i tink i never see u in feb 08 forum...

Esther,
I think different people has diff encounters. I didn't get to meet the LC. My friend met but got a disappointing outcome. You have rather a gd experience wif her. So i think it boils down to luck...
happy.gif

Don't give up on bf. If supply really low, don't feel bad abt supplementing wif FM. In the meantime, try to latch/pump to stimulate. It takes a few days for the supply to kick in. When milk comes in, can always total bf again.

yaps my boy is a leap year baby... :p
hahah am more active on the april thread coz my friends are there leh...

as for the feb thread... was never there but was in the march thread for a few times when my boy was born.

hahah about bfing... hubby was the one who was totally for it... :p coz he calculated that its so exp to formula feed baby... then each time i wanted to give up he would say... "pls latch him lah... i cant afford the formula leh"

hahah how to refute this sentence?

Hi Mashy & Winnie,
Congrats on your baby girls =)

Hi Moo,
Best not to jog, as advised by my gynae. I was jogging till just before my 2nd trimester. Gynae said some women have weak cervix and bb can literally fall out of ur womb. Told me to brisk walk instead.

Hi pprincess,
you ok? How come so many days dun see you post on forum?

hi kitty,
haha, my turn to feel unwell after Bukit Timah. Went on the North View Path to climb steps with a friend who's training for Mt Rinjani yesterday. Woke up this morning with stomach pains and a stabbing pain on the right of the tailbone. On MC today.

Hi Annie, HBB,
Yah, mrs wong quite funny, a bit 'beng' also. Climbed onto tables and cupboards etc etc. I was at the Little Skool house oon Sunday. Mrs Wong said some confusion in the bookings on Sat. Afternoon session only 19 MTBs and evening session had 29 MTBs.... Anyway, so envious of all the MTBs with their visible baby bumps. My bump almost diappeared under my baggy t-shirt...
Yah, very nice to see all the hubbies wait on their wife..
pprincess, you could try join with a buddy. I saw more than one MTB come with female friend =) DUn feel weird at all.

lamagier
i was abt to post and ask some qns. hahas! im fine. jus that no topics tat i can comment on so didnt realli post.

wanted to ask any mummy have any recommendation of bottle warmer? bcos im not sure which one to take. thou im going to use avent bottles, but not going to invest in avent warmer as they are kinda exp also i guess. so seeking other alternative if they haf

pprincess

An alternative is to use hot water to warm up your bottles. That's what i did for my #1. I bought a hot water flask and everytime i need to heat up the milk, i'll pour the hot water in a big cup and put my bottle inside.

pprincess,
My sister also told me to just put bottle in a cup of hot water to warm it up. Saves on the electric bill at the same time too....

elijah'smummy
Thanks! I'm indeed heading to Mothercare after work today w/ my gf to buy some bodysuits so I could check the pillow as well today
happy.gif
They're having additional 20% for members.

HBB
I was told that 1st & 2nd sessions hubby no need to join if dun wan, but 3rd & 4th it's better to have hubby in class as well. If my hubby wanna join 1st or 2nd sessions, will it be too boring for him? Sekali very boring, 3rd & 4th sessions refuse to go
sad.gif
Many MTBs brought hubbies or not in your 1st session?

princess

i had one but end up i found that it was rather usless coz no diff from using hot water to heat it up... both use the same concept. :p

for me i got a thermos food jar then put hot water in it and 'wah la' you got your warmer. thermos was coz when going out also got portable warmer... heheh then so more when baby is ready for semi solids then also have a container to keep baby's food ready for baby to eat.

koko

there is one going at 28 at the shop opp perfect mum at suntec. think its 100% cotton so that its not too hot for baby in our weather. :p though the one i got was the love'd baby brand from a bp here.. i find that its very hot for baby in the open only good for aircon places...

hmmm also can look at the lighter color ones coz the darker color ones may not appeal to slightly older babies (they may try to remove it while you are feeding... heheh and if you are in the open its not very convenient, rather paiseh leh)

LS

heheh no prob...

oh yah jts those of you looking for the avent sealing discs... i finally found some at the mothercare at paragon metro. think they have it at some of their other outlets too. (this item is rather hard to find leh... exp too!!!! should have shipped them in the last round... :p)

LS

I've yet to find a hb who will dare say the prenatal classes are too boring and refused to go. Boring or not, this is not just you getting preg lor. It should be a 2-person thing.

re: bottle warmer
i did think of doing the soaking the bottle in hot water. but main problem is that my house dun haf flask =x like veri pathetic hor. hahas. my house only have the boiling flask. so if i do this method, then i actualli haf to boil water first. so abit time consuming.

sigh. it's a bit troublesome. both way.

Re: Pigeon Multi-function Sterilizer
I got mine from Robinson @ 145.90, think it's cheaper than Taka price.

Re: warming up bottle
Agree with Lamagier's sister! I have planned to do so then after I bought the sterilizer, I realized it is multifunction (quite blur right?)

Elijahmummy, what did you get from Taka, sorry I too a bit too ling at Crystal Jade.. I bought my Inglesina travel system and forgot the bb monitor (the one with camera, think it's cool. So I think I will have to go Taka again..)

Yan, my mobile phone very openly abused liao, so no privacy. Call if you want to talk lah! ;p

Anyone starting to feel warm? My lower body is so warm I kept kicking the covers away but due to my sensitive nose, I still have to keep my upper body warm or else like this morning, nose started dripping when I wake up..

Another 30mins before my doc appt.. 24wks, starting to have "cold feet" about delivery and momhood.

kimberly

hahha i got extra bottles again... hubby almost freaked out!!! hahha but then not to worry lah coz was actually at isetan scotts to exchange my old bottles. :p then after that went to metro at paragon shopping.... :p hahah after that to JL as they had the 20% and well found that the best cotton disposable panties were there so went to get it in preparation of the delivery... :p after that was spotlight to get the items for the baby cot stuff that i was sewing for baby...

Elijah's mummy: Thanks! I'll drop by this Friday. Besides cotton, what other materials is used to make these shawls. any idea?

RE: Avent sealing discs
How much did you pay for it? If its hard to get from SG, then I'll get my cousin to get some.

Kimberly: Ya, I do feel hot these days, esp in the night.

RE: Backaches
Anyone experience that???? I've got a really bad lower backache last Sat when i was shopping. Geez...it was painful, even after 1/2 rest. Had to cut short my shopping trip...hiaz...

princess

from memory hor... when post delivery, you will need to have hot water around at all times leh. bath can only use hot water... drinks also need hot water... then wash your hands also need hot water leh... not to mention baby's needs all need hot water... so its easier to keep a flask of hot water in your room leh.
