(2008/12) December 2008 MTBs

generally i think infant care is a good growing n learning place for baby but unfortunately some of those care giver will overlook some small small things. it's not easy to take care of 3~5 baby for every care giver.

LuthAdel (luthadel) ,

Yap , it is good you tell them.. keep them on their toes...

Well hope your bb is alright.. what you describe sounds quite alarming his bruise.

Sam
Thank you.. my girl name is Boon Hin 雯欣.. very true, as long as they are healthy..

LuthAdel
Hahaha.. at least i am not alone...

hi jes & rachel,

ya. recently louis know how to flip both side, so he eagerly flip during night time also, once we blocked it, he frusttrated also. i also thinking how to stop him.
sad.gif

bad temper:
starting today my PIL and SIL be here to take care baby Louis, since i will start work next monday. recently baby Louis has this bad habit, whine and cry before sleep. then my PIL commented that baby louis is bad temper. then i told them at the first place i have told them don't keep carry him and give him too much attention, else he won't be pampered till like taht. then my MIL said last time the nephew also be pampered also ok mah. alamak! i told my MIL last time is 20 years ago ler, and every baby is so unique, should use different way to treat them, don't always compare baby louis with the other nephew which is grown up in kampung place ler.

havent been coming in here for a while, phew! have been tied up with the mother's day orders..

Kath, u got receive ur wristlet rite??
Cindy, i'll pass u urs tom
happy.gif

Fabbie,
I rec the bibs yesterday! so nice!! yeah Kayson's got new bibs to drool...he's drooling so much nowdays that it's like "swimming pool"

Luthadel,
Oh my, no wonder u were angry! Is Bryan better now? still alert & fine rite??

I pick my boy yesterday afternoon home (took 1/2 day MC as not feeling well) & when i pick him, i saw that he got scatches on his face! so heartache as he usually nv scatch himself tat bad..
yes, but agree that at least at IFC, they are obliged & have the responsiblity to let us know ...like wat kath mention, the moment is step in yesterday, they inform me he scatch himself..

they do have aunties to help out at the IFC, but the main duties [feeding milk / bathing / changin diaper] will be done by the IFC teachers..

Menses: mine came back last mth already! & it reported right on time again this mth...& I'm still on TBF!!! But I already cut off the nite feed...is that y my menses came back???

Supply: actually i'm not sure if my supply drop? I'm quite sure it has fm the yield that i'm getting when i express out...so i also dunno if my boy is drinking enuff when he latches on or not...but so far, after latching on,he doesnt fusses like not enuff & can sort of sleep thur, so i think still shd be okie for him bah??

Lynn, I only started my ML on the day i pop! cos i pop earlier than my EDD. but since u already koe the date u are going for c-sect, then maybe give urself a rest n start 2-3 days before hand....cos once the little ones are out, we have no more rest...;ie nite feeds, etc...
happy.gif

vent:

i need to vent. actually my baby Louis is a lovely boy, just maybe he really under sleep regression. i have few terrible nights with him. yesterday we checked the temperature, based on all the gather information from all of u, we on the a/c at 25 degree, and make sure the room is not too cold. check everything, feed him, bath him, queit place.. but, yesterday night he wake up at
10pm - 10:30pm, whine + cry + scream.
11pm - 11:30pm, milk
12:30am - 12:45am, whine + cry + scream
2am - 4am, whine + scream
5am, woke up and talk

end up, whole night didn't sleep.
sad.gif
i dunno is it becos sleeping regression or he just master his flip over from tummy to back last 2 days taht cause him so active. sigh... i just pray that he can get over this period soon.

hey louis mummy.. here's mine:

1. normally what time u put ur baby into bed?

Abt 930pm++...his routine is bath at 830pm +/-, then massage, then last feed then sleep.

2. did u on the air-con? if u on the air-con, till what time u will switch off?
aircon on thurout the nite. used to off it at 3am, but my boy is apparently hot-stuff, he wakes up & figets ard...

3. if u on the air-con, what is the temperature? and what ur baby dressing? and did u put on the blanket?

Full long sleeve romper with socks inside & partial swaddle with blanket/bath towel.

4. after the mid-night feed, did u burp ur baby?
Yes will try to burp him...but if he doesnt for after 5mins, then will put him down...

5. how frequent u change the baby diaper?
Change before last feed, change again at abt 12am bbefore i sleep so to let him sleep better thurout.
Change after early morning feed (he cant wait so have to feed already , take 5, change diaper, then feed again)
The daytime diaper changes done at IFC, but told them every 3hrs at least.

Mommy Louis (momlouis)

My gal is the same... only mine cnt flip, she is infact a good bb till hahahah last nite.. few nites ago she still good bb sleep tru out, but only cry whine before sleeping.. I gathered becoz I deprived her of her normal 8.40 pm sleep and it was already 9.15 over her sleeping time.
Last nite, my bb timing very close to your bbs timing only she woke up at 6 am.

I wonder if could be a phase they are going tru my bb is 4mths 1 week

I din train my baby to sleep thru cos even if he sleep thru, I still need to wake up to pump. So I think let natural take course. If my baby really wanna wake up to drink, I will just latch him on. If not, I just wake up n pump lo. Sometimes my baby will wake up for milk n sometimes he will just sleep thru.

I plan to breastfeed as long as I can. 
Save $$$. :p

Luthadel,
It's good tat u're making reports against the IFC so that they wont dare to "ya-ya". They get good $ frm us, how can they be so slip-shot? *tsk tsk* Hope bryan is ok!

Kath,
Can PM me ur blog address?

2nd baby
i think by then okai lar. i will bring in more rompers le. by then. hehe

pastilllies
hahaha. i think its quite useful when feeding them on solid food. not really can wet their clothes also. Good that u like it! hehehe. i think they are all now teething thats why drool alot. ^^

btw Im CURIOUS is anyone trying for another baby now?! or is anyone pregnant now?! HAHAA

mommy louis,
It could possibly be a phase bah. If the flipping n turning is causing him sleep u may want to try positioning him in such a way by he can't flip.

Just to share: One method i did was to put two baby bolsters at each side of the bottom of the mattress. This creates a U shape with bb craddled in b/w. somewat like the sarong n she can't turn. Usually I let her "exercise" until she like almost sleepy then I put her in. She will try once or twice to flip then go to zzz...

If the above does not work, try distracting her with a night toy. For my ger, it's a night light from OCBC mighty savers. I switch off all the lights, turn it on and she will stare at the light, no more flips or cry! *Magic!*

wow! snowger. can't imagine the OCBC mightlyy savers light can distract ur girl :D

i tried ur way, bolsters in between. can't work, he more fuss!!!

making baby to sleep
for me.. when i carry her, i sway her.. up and down. when she looking at the ceilling. then you can see her eyes. moving here and there till her eyes half close. hehehe.

another thing my mum did. she use gave her her own small towel and play. usually she will put on her face to cover her eyes, and thats when she will fall asleep. haha..

oh ya.. i still use her bean bag to put on her chest, but it seems like she usually grab it and put it on her face. -___- and fall asleep sometimes.. faints. jialet. i think i play too much of pee a boo liao.. she keep covering her face on and off. haha

LuthAdel - Oh dear. I hope Bryan is ok now.

Rachel - Hey! I know where that is. Very near to my sis' flat. She owns a flat at Blk 460. But now she had rented it out while she lives with her parents in law. I think it's difficult for me to meet up with u. Cos usually we will go to my mum's place on saturday late evening. Then sunday morning we'll go to church. After that come back at abt 1+. Had lunch, then i pump milk etc, etc. Unless u dun mind meeting ard late afternoon, say after 4pm.
I think it's best to make your own puree than to buy those Heinz. Cos u won't know if there's added sugars inside. I also dun wan my gal to develop sweet tooth.

Iyon - I like your gal's name.
happy.gif

n_g - Welcome.
happy.gif

Fabbie - Not trying at the moment. Think after i stop breastfeeding bah. Poor hubby has been living like a monk for a yr plus. :p

Haha Fong...I'm staying Blk 459..just the block next to ur sis's flat! Haha... i dun mind meeting u anytime convenient for u la...
happy.gif

PS: My hubby also as poor thing as ur hubby
sad.gif

n_g & lyon- Welcome too!

just a question for ladies who wake up to pump, why do you do that? Is it so that you have to store the milk? Or are you afraid your breasts will be engorged in the morning?

Long time nvr log in and just reading the current thread is so "happening"!

Adel:
sorry to hear abt Bryan. At least the IFC has no choice to inform parents on wat happen, god knw wat happens to Kasia when she is at my BBsitter.. so for me, it's "yan bu jian wei jing".. hope Bryan will be ok..

Kath:
u dun luk yr age!!! thot ur either late 20s or at most my age... wow! i think yr HB luk more matured leh.. hee...

Fabbie:
dun tell me ur trying for no.2?? so soon? me has decided to close shop liao, not trying anymore.

MommyLouis:
Kasia oso fuss alot at one time, esp after she nap alot in pm. nowadays, she quite ok liao, occassionally will fuss a while then will drift off to sleep herself(cos she got a "cruel" mummy). her sleeping time ard 8+ to 9pm, fully a/c room! haha..

Mommy Louis (momlouis)

Thanks a million, now I know that my bb eiter hahahaha slept tru last few weeks is eiter she learnt stuff quickly or she did not learn at all and now learning some stuff so wake up alot due to brain activity hahahahahaa!

Tamms,

why we wake up?
1) lumps in breast due to extended hours
2) keep up the level of breast milk production.
3) keep menses occurance at bay
4) dont want to have "rock buns" in the morning when bb wake up , dnt want to latch coz she will have milk rain on her face.

Hope this helps
happy.gif

mommy louis,
I think so too! It's free somemore. Good eh! More reason for mummy's to open an ac with OCBC! My ger also has extreme difficulty to zzzz on her own. She will either be super excited, i.e. use her hands to hit the tummy area with legs up and down hitting the mattress! When we ignore her, she will try to turn. When she succeeds, she will squirm upwards in the playpen! Get stuck n scream loud loud!!!

Tat's y use nightlight to calm her down. :p

I think beanbag does work. My ger will stare at the light for a while, rub her eyes, grab the beanbag to cover her eyes. Tat's when sneaky mummy will switch off the night light. When she removes the beanbag, no more nite lite liao. Then bo bian off she will go lala land.

fabbie,
My ger will struggle when I try to carry her to zzz... So the best way is either she sleeps in papa's arms or use the nitelight to distract...

LuthAdel,
Hope that IFC gives you a satisfactory answer over Bryan's bruise!

Fifi,
Got the bibs! Thanks! Cant wait to use when bb is eating semi-solids. She looks like the messy type of bb.. heh

Rachel,
I am planning to make my own puree too... seems quite easy to make and also fun
happy.gif
If possible try also? I tasted Heinz baby jar food before.. it IS really sweet.

Pluf,
Is Blythe's sleeping pattern changing? I noticed that Avery is also wanted to sleep later (she used to yawn by 9pm but now she is still pretty alert!). For the sake of routine, i still put her into the cot and let her 'ma ma ba ba' inside. This change seems to coincide with her better ability to flip and move around.

mommylouis,
Oh dear.. i hope bb louis will settle down soon. I think some babies (including mine) are quite susceptible to changes. I am guessing when they start teething etc, we may see another change in their sleeping habits too..

aurorin..

Hello hello, i tot you bz with the packing, with regards to your sms, I will go find it...
My bb pattern took for the worst, I was up whole nite last night.. she cry in her sleep , wake up and want to drink, wake up and want to play, I got panda eye now... if I do let her sleep at 7ish for a super short nap, I get anothr 15 to 30 mins of her precious time max to play with her.

I bet when you are in melbourne you will have lots of time to make puree.. I envy you... Can look after your little gal so soon...

As for me, I hope she return to her pattern of sleeping tru the nite.. hahahaha maybe wake up 1 time as long as she breastfeed and empties both breast so that I dnt need to wake up and express.. this greedy mummy want all the best things in life, ah yo! me I know wishful thinking.

rachel
you can start solids by feeding iron enriched rice cereal, as for puree, start with root vegetables like carrots/pumpkin/sweet potato. Heinz Apple n pear is a bit sweet. Try not to start on such sweet foods yet

Pluf,
Aiyo no wonder you panda eyes already. Got try to find out from her nanny if her pattern also changed in the day? Anyway, me Still packing. It seems like an endless chore.. :p It's tough to pick one thing up and decide at the moment if i shd bring it or leave it. My "Maybe" pile is steadily growing. Hubby is no better.. his pile is even bigger! :D

I wonder if i am going to turn a mum that does nothing but puree all the time! Will be funny.. the whole family can have different types of purees for breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner and supper. And oh, good luck in finding the 'stuff' and d/ling it. My hubby took a few days cos its not as 'common'. hahaha

Rachel,
Think i will start with sweet potato first. I am following the recipes from wholesomebabyfood.com and First Food Book.. It seems really easy.. just steam and then mash/blend with the water from the steaming. You can make in batches and freeze it. Think it will be nice to have the puree with rice cereal etc.

Hi all,

MCYS officer just contacted me and said they will speak to the centre on the issues highlighted. However, having said that, they do "compromise" quite a bit in terms of allowing non infantcare trained teachers to assist and even handles babies. My question to them was why then do we have to pay so much more compared to regular childcare since the understanding is that only infantcare certified teachers are allowed to handle babies. We're paying for premium care but yet......*sigh* How to plan for no. 2 like tat?

At least they're looking into the issue with the centre concerned and when she mentioned if I would like the centre to update me on their steps taken to ensure no such incident will happen again, I told her thatI prefer the centre to address all the parents under infantcare of their upgrading and safety implementation since it wil concern the safetyof their babies too.

aurorin (aurorin)

I am sure my hubby will be just as bad or even worse... He is already a rubbish collector and I am the incinerator. Best of all, My house I did not make many cabinets so it is either , he throw or I throw it FULLSTOP. Kekekekekeke!

Perhaps becoz I have always been a normad .My rule of thumb, coz somehow we are all collectors say what if, or maybe.. if you dnt seem to need it for 6 mths chance are you wnt for good. :p

thks tamms and aurorin for the advice. I will stop giving Jordan Heinz for a while...time to go market!!

N Adel...dats great news! at least they r looking into it...no way we are taking any risks when it comes to our precious bb!!

LuthAdel (luthadel)

Good One... Ya , for the amount that is too be paid they better buck up..

In the name of being a centre they better live up to it.
happy.gif

Ofcoz we mummies are worried, our dear little one can't talk yet and all they do is cry laugh and scream... We do really need to pay attention to our little one coz if we dnt who else will..

Way to go gal!

Adel,
That's the problem... childcare subsidy is means-tested (i.e. less funds for sch) yet they proclaim to have such 'high' standards. If they really want to encourage pple to have more kids, at least work at providing better and more affordable childcare services (including IFC). *grumble* Sorry ah, where i work, we deal with MCYS and MOE with regards to funding issues for children... and its always a headache with regards to MCYS. *bleah*

Pluf,
Man.. u speak my mind! My own flat is very open concept and i always have to stop my hub from buying things which he doesnt need because i wouldn't know where to put them. Hahaha My need to 'collect' is very dependent on my space limits but unfortunately, hubby concept of space is alot more flexible, which accounts for all his toys/books/magz/CDs around the flat. :p

Rachel,
Have fun marketing and cooking!
happy.gif

Luthadel,
sorry to hear abt Bryan getting bruised. iS he ok now? the IFC muz realli ans for their actions man..tse tse..

Fever Blues:
Summer is also running a fever rite now. prob due to the 2 jabs she took ytd. Fever started last nite at 38.3 degrees. drop to 36.9 now. shld i still give her paracetamol?? Missy or anyone can advise?

damn sian cos her milk routine went hay wire.. drink half her usual intake ytd. and today worse refuse to drink milk. I spent 3 hours trying to make her drink n sleep.. wasted 3 bottles of Fm then she finally drink 100ml only... faints!

Fabbie:
i got the rompers n bibs liao!! they r soooo cute! love them but way too big for my small size Summer.. ahaha... mummy shall keep first.

another baby? this one is driving me mad liao.. at least gotta wait 1-2 years la.. can die lei!!

size & weight:
Summer weights 6kg n measures at 62.5cm at 4 mths & 4 days old,. PD say she's on the 25% of the growth chart.. small baby.. check w u all.. how big ur babies at 4 mths??? my gal seems bery small lei.. sianz

aurorin,
oh ya! imagine flipping pattern like taht already, can't imagine when teething, i will "ki-siao" hahaha...

snowger,
i always envy the baby can sleep by their own with anything! mine one will cry loud to ask for carry. :s

pluf,
ya. i think baby Louis got brain active problem. what the problem they want to do this brain activity during mid-night ler...
sad.gif

Luthadel,
sorry to hear abt Bryan getting bruised. hope he is ok now. poor bryan and mommy. if me, i will act the same as u.

Fabbie
u steady la! planning no 2 liao? salute!
my fren tell me if i wan better give birtj b4 the eldest one turn 2 otherwise wait till the elder one turn 3 first. otherwise got jealousy issues. i dunno how true. jus sharing.. hee

xuelyn
My girl is even smaller. At 4.5 months she was 65cm and 5.4kg. PD just tell me to try and give her more milk, also to try and give her more of the creamy milk, when I express out. So what I do now on weekends is to pump after latching, to get out the hindmilk, and keep that to add to my EBM during the weekdays. Hopefully Emma will have better weight gain by her next check up.

Number 2
I'm planning to be pregnant mid/late next year, to delivery by 2010. Hehe..

Echo,
Emma is tall! SHe's TBM which is great! my gal on TFM now. she always never finish her 160ml, leaving 30-40ml bal each time. how much is Emma drinking now?

xuelyn
She takes about 3-4 oz (90-120ml) per bottle, every 2-3 hours. When I'm with her then I will latch.

I thought you were still BF? How come you stopped? Supply dropped or you didn't want to continue?

xuelyn,
Urs surely beat mine lor... Mine only 5.495kg and 59cm at 4mths exact!!! :'( Oh well bo bian I guess... Doc says she's a polite drinker.

Now she drinks about 4.5oz per bottle every 3hrs. :p Still on TBM...

Echo,
Ur PD told u to extract hind milk? Hmm... maybe i should do tat for weekends too?

Echo,
Haiz.. No demand so no supply. I gotta pump 3 times to yield 1 feed for Summer. and hor she became lazy lor.. "hiam" my my letdown too slow.. dun wanna latch. like tat how to haf milk?? so fed up.. thus stop liao.

My neh neh still feel a bit sore.. haf not been pumping for a few days liao. can feel some lumps.. keep massaging to get rid of the excess milk. tried cold cabbage treatment too. hopefully can fully wean off all the BM soon.

so my gal n ur gal drink sama sama. sumtimes my gal simply refuse to drink milk. nothing much i can do except try n try agn. so sian she wasted alot of my milk. considering whether to extend her feed to 4 hourly cos she dun seems hungry enuff at 3 hourly intervals.

Mimi,

I tried the following types:
1. Medela PISA
Pros:
a. Comfortable on the nipples (and best it has the 2 phase expression which I find is good even in days where my let down is slow)
b. Not so noisy
c. It's fast becos it's dual
Cons:
a. A pretty heavy pump to be lugging around everywhere
b. I dun use the battery pack so hard to pump when in shopping centre

2. Avent Manual
Pros:
a. Easy to bring around (provide the stuff to keep ur pump sterile)
b. Can pump and massage the breast at the same time (so I can pump more cleanly)
c. Can adjust the way I pump (how I squeeze for suction) to ensure max milk flow
d. Gentle on the nipples

Cons
a. Takes super long to pump each side esp when ur let down is a "let down" at that time
b. Slower than a dual pump (my friend broke 2 pump handles cos she do it too hard - rushing for time mah)
c. One side might leak while u pumping...
d. The milk may get stuck in the petal (so for pple with low ss, quite heartpain), some milk oso get stuck near the valve... :'(
e. Squeeky sound when pumping

3. Medela Single Electric
Pros
a. I used for one month - helped me in establishing supply
b. Pumps quite cleanly too

Cons
a. Need to switch fr one side to the other every 5 mins (not convenient but if u dun u risk losing ur nipples! May possibly have caused me to get breast infection due to the trauma fr the strong suction!)
b. Darn pain on the nipples aft prolong usage (suction is too strong)
c. SUPER noisy!!!

snowger
my PD said that if I have a lot of milk, to skim off the thin part and feed her the creamier part. But I don't have a lot of milk, just enough for each day. So I went online to read and found that I can do this extra pumping to get more hindmilk.

If you have oversupply of milk, you can try to skim off the thin part? So let the milk stand in the fridge for a while so that it will separate, and pour out some of the watery part, so that only the creamy part remains.

xuelyn
I see.. well, at least you managed to bf for most of the first 6 months!
happy.gif

wah.. today so many posts n i have no time to read
sad.gif

Luthadel
is bryan ok? aiyo. heartpain leh.. how could the IFC like tat..

FYI, my MIL also used to work at CC b4 n she is the " auntie" there to help to feed, change n even teach. My god. when i heard this, i was like " how can you teach when u dun even complete pri sch N dun even certified to take care of children"... after tat i told my HB... i will not consider sending my child to IFC or CC unless i have no choice.

Even worst.. those PAP kindergarten hire TEACHERS that only have Pri 6 qualification. Cos my HB's aunties are the " teachers" in there.. they used to approach me to help them set "test papers" , write school brochure, articles.. FAINT FAINT FAINT...

Shdn't the govt do something about this.. Perhaps 20yrs old, we can accept teachers with no qualification or not certified.. Now, definitely not.

Hi rachel
Yup i Know where is SPC.. abit far from mine.. but we still at the same " village" haha!!

Avent Electric single

pros
a. comfortable
b. fast let down
c. can adjust the rhythm and strength of suction
d. battery pack is compact and easy to pack for travel
e. has memory setting

cons
a. like snowger said, some milk does get stuck in the petal and pump body, but if you remove the petal and membrane carefully, you can pour that extra milk into the collection bottle. Not much anyway, maybe 2ml so its not a big con for me
b. not compatible with other bottles, can only be used with Avent bottles.

I never tried any other pump, so far am very happy with the Avent. heard that the Medela PIS is also good

echo, snowger

I did this when I was pumping for storage in the early days:

Throw away the first part of your first let down so you collect only the rich milk. If your supply is good, just throw the entire first let down away. Confirm fatty milk! Don't need to feel heartache for 'wasting' milk, your body is producing more as you pump anyway.

If you wait for a long interval between pumping, the percentage of watery milk will be higher, so shortening the interval between pumping will yield a richer composition.
