i have a bad pumping morning... woke up at 6am to find out tat i forget to sterilize the pump.. wait for it to sterlize till 6:30am..

then.. pump n no letdown at all... pump till 7:105am.. almost 45mins!!!!! i m really shack n SS is so little, breasts still hard...

I m sitting here pumping & typing as there is still no letdown..

sorry for the rant.. but i m losing my patience...

I need to reach office early at 8:30am today cos there is a meeting..

sure gonna be late again

N my girl awake since 6:45am.. she lying there seeing & smiling at me till now... wanna hug her...!!

i have used medela mini electric personally for 3 months and it's quite tiring cos it's single.

U are right about the 2ml (but every drip counts! At least tat was how I felt when I just started pumping n my ss was total 20ml for both breast!)... In general, I like the avent manual as it's small, can easily throw inside my bag to bring out + no need to look for power source or batteries! And so far, most of my sessions with it has been smooth except for one (mayb cos I too stressed up! :p)

I won't mind pouring away the thin portion of the milk... Then maybe I have lesser extras to sotre! sounds good eh! *keke*

I tried pouring out aft the milk has seperated in the fridge leh... But the thick milk n the watery part will mix tog easily... One light tap and the powdery milk will swish into the watery part! Should I try using a syringe or something to "suck out" the watery portion? Or is there a special method for pouring?

The one I use is Pump In Style Advanced - the improved model from Pump In Style. The older model Pump In Style does not have the 2 phase expression. If I am not wrong, can still get Pump In Style (old stock) either 2nd hand or in FFY.

fabbie, if my pumping time coincides w latching time, I usually latch or pump out the hindmilk to my gal. I will pump out the fore milk n put in milk bag to freeze. My gal usually fall asleep after latching for 5 minutes, so dun tink she had hindmilk, thats y I need to pump out e fore milk, then let her latch again.
 
Jess, my gal is in childcare centre too. In her first two yrs, she got sick only once or twice. After putting her in childcare, she is either coughing, or having fever or running nose like almost once every mth. *Sigh*

For a double electric pump, I also heard that the Ameda Lactaline is good and not so expensive. It doesn't have the 2 phase stimulation, but can adjust speed and suction individually. But I personally am using the Medela PISA which is very good. Can empty out my breasts quickly and not painful to pump.

only need to throw away the starting of the milk if your bb is not gaining weight well. Emma has poor weight so I try to pump out more hind milk (pump after she latch) to add to her EBM.

2010 I will be 28. But I want to have many kids, maybe 3 or 4? So cannot waste time! hehe..

for distracting baby to flip at nite, i've actually tried both method tat u mentioned but does not help... i put sleep positioner (those with 2 bolster tat hav velcro tape to stick at each side) but Daniell still manage to 'cross' over, i also turn on the cot mobile which has light show & music but only can attract him for a while then he'll go back to his flipping job again...

last nite also same, he woke up at 2am+ to flip... my disruptive sleep is back again after he can flip, haiz!

oh ur elder gal was on BF tat's why she hardly sick in her 1st 2 years? mine was on TFM... always sick since young, now go to childcare even worse... but wat to do, they got to go school at this age mah!

the hind milk is actually the creamy top layer? because when my milk is left in the fridge and it separates into 2 layers..i notice that the top layer is very little compared to the bottom watery layer...so does it mean that i have very little hind milk?

how to increase hind milk in that case? is pumping extra the only way? or should i also pump for more than 15 mins?
 
Last nite i shifted back to my parent's place since my place will be hacking 2nd door for the lift upgrade....my parents was taking care Gerard for me and he keep awaking up....at 3am, my parents tot he was hungry but he refused to drink...and keep crying. awake up at 4am and keep crying, refuse to drink mum...where am i? in my own room..sleeping like a log! I wonder if he cry cos he cannot sense my presence? But my parents are taking care of him the whole day leh...and he is sleeping the same bed and same room leh..

the top layer is actually saturated fat, which is part of what hind milk consists of so don't worry, the thin layer is perfectly normal. Emma's so cute and her size is perfect, why do you need to try to increase hindmilk?

before we had Olivia I thought 4 would be wonderful but I have revised it downwards to 3 now! Don't want to be running around after a toddler when I'm in my 40s. I come from a family of 5kids so 3 to me is just right, my mom had a 9year headstart over me after all. 3 is the midpoint between loneliness and chaos

Read about the sentencing of an Indon maid who ill-treat a 2 1/2 yr old boy - scary too. Esp now i rely on my indon maid to look after my bb gal (only 2 day's a week at mum's).

At any rate, let me know if you need help on 20 jun gathering. I could open my place (apt at Sixth Avenue - off holland rd) too if all ladies are ok.

Iris, i would really recommend Medela too. i have a handsfree version and the motor/charger is really handy and small.

Mommy Louis, m envious as my bb can't roll over yet. we have been helping her but she doesn't seem to want to do it herself tho can prop up head quite high when on tummy

do teach me how to get my bb roll.

yup the creamy part is the hindmilk. It's normal to have mostly foremilk (watery part) and little hindmilk. BM needs to be watery because it is a drink as well as a food. When you are latching her, make sure she drains one breast before switching sides, so that she will get the hindmilk. If you are pumping, then pumping more frequently will increase the fat content of the milk. But if your Emma is a good size then you don't have to worry too much. My Emma is small, which is why I want to get her to drink more fatty milk to put on more weight.

Olivia is your first child? I want to have 4 and my hb wants 3. But we've agreed that we should have at least 2 and then see how after that. Maybe we will already have our hands full with 2? I am an only child and my hb only has 1 sis who is much older than him, so I think it would be nice if we have lots of children who can play with each other!

Luthadel, how is bryan now? Why the infant childctr so irresponsible??? How could they blame that it was Bryan's fault to knock onto the wood? In the 1st place, they should have a safe place to feed him mah!

yup Olivia is our first, and yes we always tell people when asked, that we'll have another one and then see how it goes from there. I'm not ruling out #4 but 3 is ideal for us. Did you feel lonely growing up as an only child? I want to keep the age gap to less than 3 years. kids closer in age hv more fun together.

I think I would have been a different person if I had siblings close to my age. Maybe I would have more sociable, less selfish, played better with other children. I was just talking about this with my colleague, who has only one child. She's now P2 and he says that she is a bit spoilt, must always have her way, doesn't know how to share. Said that she's spent too much time playing with adults who always give in to her. That's also what I feel. I think it is possible to bring up a balanced, mature child without any siblings, but it will be difficult. Tendency will be for them to turn out to be xiao wang zi (little prince).

Thanks for all your concerns for Bryan. He is fine now and back in the infantcare. What I'm still angry is that until today, I've yet to recieve the formal letter from the Principle concerning the incident! I reiterated more than twice that I want an official letter from the centre about the incident and they said ok. How long does it take to write a letter?!!

Anyway, what to do in this economic situation, quitting my job to stay home and look after him is out of the window so we are still at the mercy of such care centres. *sigh*

We need more quality check on centres rather than just mere setting up etc 'cos without proper training & stringent periodic checks, our delicate babies are the ones at risk. I wonder if any of the authority is looking into this issue. *sigh*

Adel: Glad to know that Bryan is fine. You must be firm on this matter & let them know that a letter is definitely required. Now i'm very worried about Preston in IFC after reading about what happened to Bryan.

No choice...with today's high std of living, it's not ideal for us to quit & be SAHM though i would like to do so. Hang in there ok?? So far is this the first incident?


To the other mommies...hi hi...i have finally logged in after so long again. With Preston sleeping early every night & my laptop in the bedroom, it's so hard to keep myself updated in the forum.

Anyway, Preston is about 5 months 2 weeks old...now he has 2 tiny baby teeth (bottom front 2) & has just started on a teaspoon of rice cereal 3 days ago.

How is everyone?? To mommies who are still BFing, you have my utmost admiration!

My hubby & i don't think we'll be having #2. Seems like hubby wants only 1 kid though part of me is already itching for #2. He says that with 1 kid, we can devote all our time, effort, love & $$. If we have more than 1, then we'll have to split up all that. Anyone else's hb has this sentiment?

I switch my girl from breast milk to formula milk, notice she has green stools ever since she is on formula.. sometime can be very dark colour and very smelly.. This has last about a month already..

I have been changing from Enfalac to Similac and now to NAN HA but still the same.. I only latch her at night cos still got supply and enough for her night feed (no pump during the day).

And also found that she her stomach has more wind/gas with NAN HA.. Similac slightly better compare to the other 2...

Anyone encounter this problem? Should I change the formula milk again?

if wana hav close age gap for siblings, can try now le. hehe. i got preg again when jayzon was onli 7mths old as i wanted a mouse & them to b close. so at least i get slpless nites for max 2yrs in a row. lolx.

i find tt its a bit tough to manage but there's no jealousy seen in jayzon. he will kiss n sayang didi n help us look afta him from a distance. hehe. he onli cry when we say he noti n give his toy to didi. =p

my expressed milk hor, the bottom part is the watery one rite?? onie 20ml leh. Is it cos i dun drink enuf water?? i keep myself very hydrated one leh.. then abt 70ml is the thicker milk then top later abt 10ml is much thicker one.. i tink tat is the fats bah.. is it cos i hv too much hindmilk that zach cannot poo for so many days?? he is dehydrated?? Hahaha..

not so soon lar.. will prob hv another one when i hit 36 years old! Hb is super keen on having a 2nd one so that Zach will not feel lonely. Last time I wanted 6...but after a while, i cannot really stand the noise of too many kids then reduce to 4 n then my mom kept saying what for hv so many kids..2 will be enuf. So..hahah, dunno lar. Settle for 3??

Your milk got so much hindmilk? No wonder Zach is growing so well. Don't worry too much about what your milk looks like. As long as Zach is growing well then that's all that matters. BTW, not pooing for days is normal for BF babies, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your milk.

my baby oso got 2 tiny teeth on bottom gum! so cute... but i still haven't start on solid leh. plan to introduce solid to him when he is 6 month old. 

for no 2,
me n hubby oso plan to hav at least 2. we think single kid is more lonely. It’s good to get him a sibling so 1 day when we r not around, there’s still sibling wif him.  ideally age gap 2~3. so mayb start to plan for #2 next year? :p

weight n height,
my boy weight 6.4kg and measured 63cm when he is 4 months old. Consider small cos his birth weight is 3.75kg and measured 50cm at birth! Will monitor closely to c whether need to prepare hind milk for him. Will go take another jab next week. By then can c his grow again. 

oh ya, heard fr my mom usually after taking jab baby will b cranky, wan carry n milk intake dropfor few days. Is it true for your babies?

we wanted 3 kids, approx 18mo apart. for our #1 and #2, we got lucky so they are actually exactly 18mo apart. like iemik0, want to get the sleepless nites out of the way.
now, however, for #3, we've decided to wait till the 2boys are older. give our young family a chance to settle down first.

I sama like u, I wanted more than 5 maybe 6. Cos I think a big family with lots of kids will be fun. Then I got the stare from my hb... He oni wants 2. So I told him ok, we have 3 then. But after Nic was born and with all the nonsense n prob with childcare, I am half-hearted about having another child. *HAHAHA!* It's his turn to beg me liao! :p

My watery portion is usually max 1 oz (out of 4.5oz), but the 6hrly pump can easily go up to 1.5oz (out of 5oz). Then said, why is my ger's weight gain still so miserable?

I dun use the sleep positioner cos lazy to spend money to buy. I use the two pillows to put below the mattress eh... Does not always work one. Kids this age is too smart liao (we eat too much DHA lor). I try too many methods liao. Some include putting her on my bed to zzz, diff sleep positions, give her bolster. But so far the OCBC nite lite is still the best (ocbc nite lite will change colour one leh, very interesting... dunno if ur nite lite is the same?)! :p

Not every kid will be cranky... My ger had fever aft her first vaccine, so she took paracetemol. All she does is sleep, wake up for milk and back to sleep again... But for the 2nd vaccine, she did not get fever. When it's milk time, she cry super loud. Dun think it's cranky either... :p

Milk intake was ok lah... slightly lesser than the usual 4oz, she takes abt 1/2 or 3oz lor, but sometimes can finish (depends on her mood). :p

Guess every kiddo reacts differently to the jab... Ur kid take jabs liao?

I have 4 only now .. STRANGERS keep talking to me and saying "wa you have FOUR kids?" .. I hear until sian aldy - guess here and now in singapore 4 is a lot -.

Anyway, I'll be 36 end of Dec this year .. hubby will be 35 so we think it's enough. we want to do other things like travel .. hahahah !!!

when OCBC give away the nite light? i got open children saving acct for Daniell ler but get nothing one... maybe i can open another acct for my elder boy..

btw, mummies... last time i heard some of u said that if take paracetomol b4 jab can prevent fever is it? Daniell will be going for jab again tomolo so i wanna giv it a try...

yup, my boy having his immunisation jab. next week is his 4th jab.

my boy milk intake after jab is very low. usually he finish 140ml in 10~20minutes time every 3 hourly. after jab, sometimes he only mangae to finish 50ml in 30~60 minutes every 3 hour, n sometimes he even reject milk totallly. only after 6 hour then he drink again. my boy on TBF.

admit that bringing up kids in SG is really tough!! Imagine if got 4 kids and all go childcare, easily $2k a mth gone! Hv not include ECA for them.. keke. That's y the 6 slash to 3..i suppose 3 is still okay bah.. juz tat mummy n daddy need to keep working and mummy cannot be a stay home mom unless daddy gets promoted yearly..Hahaha

gals, the OCBC night light was the freebies given when u open the Mighty Savers account with a minimum deposit of $1K. I just went to the bank today, no more night light, now they give pillow or a blanket.. no use lar. Hahaha..

yup, this will be my 2nd one.

we din expect also leh cos my menses irregular after deliver and who knows. i almost fainted when i test 1 day before 1 fly to bangkok. and i used 4 test kits to confirm before going to my gynae.
