(2008/12) December 2008 MTBs

LuthAdel,

ya, some babies are like that ... my 2nd and 3rd girls were like that ... BUT they were agreeable to sleep in the Fisher-price baby swing (the open top swing) ... of course, they preferred being carried la ... maybe you can try to put Bryan in one of those ... I find that the swinging lulls them to sleep.

It was damn siong I agree ... almost the whole day have to carry. feel so handicapped when you need to do things. I told my hubby that this time around (with baby no. 4), we finally have a non-defective baby that agrees to sleep in her crib .. THANK GOODNESS. lol

You can read more about growth spurts here: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/normal/growth-spurt.html. Basically it's when baby wants to eat more and can be a bit fussy. There are some estimate times when it can happen. My girl is 4.5 weeks now, so I guess it was about time for her 4 week growth spurt.

During the growth spurt, she was on the breast a lot longer. Babies will know how to ask for more milk by suckling at the breast longer, to stimulate milk supply. So my girl was latched on for a much longer time but wasn't always actively sucking the whole time; about half the time she was just gently suckling.

If you are on TBF/total latch, don't worry about your milk supply. Just keep baby on the breast and your body will produce more in response to more demand. Just watch out for sore nipples! My nipples are now sore after 2 days of latching my girl for 40 mins every 1.5 hours! Hopefully they'll recover now that she's back to her normal eating pattern (30 mins latch every 2-3 hours).

i used to feed my boy on demand for the first 2-3wks but my fren told me that if we continue to demand feed then we'r the one who suffer, for her she was told to giv demand feed too but after 2wks she decided to start training her gal by dragging her feeding hr (esp at nite) fr 3rd wks onwards & she was sucessful as her gal started to sleep thru after 2nd month...

anyway i think it's good to set a feeding routine now since they already one mth old, or else i will hav no time for myself doing housework & cooking once my mum going back to M'sia tomolo, i gotta to take care my bb boy alone plus elder son... *faint*

pastillies,
my total hospital bill is $5k plus & after deduction from medisave which is $1.8K i still hav to fok out another $3K plus... tat time i oso tot 1.8K is only for delivery and the cashier told me that out of $450 was meant for ante-natal package...

mum2ndx,
at least urs is continuous but mine like cleared completely already but suddenly the brownish red discharge comes back again !! dunno wat is that also...

IUCD (Intrauterine Contraceptive Device) is a device which is inserted into the uterus (womb) to prevent pregnancy...

btw, ask u gals...

if u r giving EBM to your baby while u r out, then how do u handle the EBM? bring out chill or warm? if chilled one then how u do warm the milk outside? if warm it up b4 going out then how long can it last?

reason asking coz i find it not easy when wanna BF-ing my bb at outside coz sometimes it's either cannot find nursing room, or nursing room is already being occupied & bb is screaming for milk... like yesterday at marina sq, i went to a nursing room but it was long queue, then got to search for another room again coz bb can't wait already, then in the end i found another room (after searching high & low) & tot can peacefully nurse my boy already but after few min someone knocking fr outside coz wanna use the room too... so in the end got to chop chop settle it.. argh !!

actually i hav nursing shawl but sometimes still feel shy to nurse in public ler... not easy not easy

luvudeepdeep

seriously, forget about running to the nursing room ... a lot of malls have inadequate rooms .. I only go if it's convenient, or if I'm alone and nothing else to do so I sit in the nursing room for a long time nursing Calista and changing her diaper .. I only really like the Takashimaya nursing room .. even then I don't bother using the actual nursing room .. I just sit on one of the comfy armchairs there and breastfeed (using a nursing shawl) ..

Usually what I do is nurse her when I'm at the food court/restaurant etc .. then at least when I start walking around shopping, she's already full and likely to fall asleep in her stroller.

I know it isn't easy to get over the shyness of nursing in public ... but do try
happy.gif
it'll make your life a whole lot easier ...

Ivy,

If u sign up 4+1 lessons, it cost $110. If u sign up 9+1 lessons, it cost $180. The 1st trial is considered a lesson. If no package, each lesson is $25. But I dun have the voucher that fabbie had so I got to pay $25 if I dun sign package. I sign package cause my daughter really love swimming in it.

I am going to bring my daughter to swim this coming Sat at HarbourFront. Maybe u there also? Hehe...

sam,
actually i tried to nurse once before in a restaurant, tat time still ok coz not many ppl, but if too many ppl already & the area is so open (like that restaurant in IKEA) then a bit paiseh ler... like last week when i was there i was abt to do so then my hubby suddenly asked me: "u sure u wan to feed here??" my god then i boh bian went to nursing room lor, after sit in for few mins a lady knocked the door (coz i locked the door) & said wanna come in & change diaper for her gal, i said ok if u come in only but she said her husband gotta come in & help too... faint!! of coz cannot la i told her i dun mind u come in & share the room but not ur husband coz i'm BF-ing my baby !!! very inconvenient hor so i'm thinking if i should bring EBM out next time juz to standby...

luvudeepdeep,

ya I understand ... i was also very paiseh last time ... now I dun bother ... not like you're baring your boobs out there for all to see ... if you're using a nursing shawl, lagi cannot see anything ... but yes, it's hard to get past that paiseh-ness ..

Not all baby changing rooms have nursing rooms that's the problem .. I recall in Vivo, this lady occupied the baby diaper changing room ro breastfeed .. there was a long queue of people urgently needing the room .. the room wasnt for breastfeeding by the way ... it was just that one teeny room meant to change your baby's diaper cos there was a changing table in there ...

in singapore, the malls STILL don't have adequate family rooms ... look at Vivo .. so huge but no changing/nursing room ... the one at Takashimaya is very nice and big.

so your baby does know how to take milk from a bottle? then find out how u can bring EBM out .. I think EBM can be at room temp for quite a while
happy.gif

it's really not easy in singapore to breastfeed outside ... sigh

sam,

They got no limit on the timing. It depends on how long our baby can swim or willing to swim.

My aunt stay there so we go there quite often. I actually stay at Bedok. I think there is 2 more branches, 1 at Plaza Singapura, another I think is Hougang Plaza. Got to ask fabbie on this branch.

Me actually think u r amazing. Can handle 4 kids. I 1 kid already feel tired out. Do u want to have another 1? I personally know of 2 persons, both teachers, to have 5 kids. My jaws nearly dropped when I 1st know that.

thanks ypg
happy.gif

no la, once more than 2 kids, hard to handle ... my eldest is in school and has other classes outside of school which I need to ferry her and my 2nd one, that's why we had no choice but to get a maid to help me when I was having Number3.

Number 5? .. no la, we have no plans.. unless accident .. that's why I'm looking into contraceptives now ... all seems to have some kind of side effects leh .. except for condoms and ligation.

I like Vivocity .. very nice and spacious, It's a real shame they don't have a nice big baby room like the one at Takashimaya ..

btw, what's the name of this swimming place? TIA.

jes
si mi IUCD? aiya.. tio accident not bad what.. hehehe i love surprise lolx =X i duno is it comfortable anot. but i see her swimming seems like okai. is just that when u put the neck float on her. she of cus didnt like it. but when we put her on the pool she seems abit stunt. then slowly abit use to it ten her face changes to be better. lolx

IM not latch on.. but my baby cries normally 2 hrs the shortest for milk! jes i will warm my EBM first then put in the warmer. i think can last till 6 hrs ba. if im out for more than 6 hours i will bring my cooler bag. to place my cold bottle. then i wil bring a mug and a hot water bottle.. i heat up i will put like chicken esscen like that to heat up lor.

Ivy

pastillies

well me and my hub dun have our own house.. we been running to my MIL house on weekends and weekdays at my house. Many reasons that my hub want to stay at his house so i agree lor. till last few weeksdays im at my MIL house. -___- so tired de at there. cus nobody help me to wash this or that. Unless my MIL and Hub is not working lor! even so. my hub is not working he sometimes push everything to me and relax at his own room! arghz.. I guess CNY coming liao i got to stay mayb 1 week at my MIL house again. faints. Anyway is not nice of me to snatch my hub from her not staying in their house and stay at my own house mah. so i give in abit lor. hehe as long weekdays Most of the time at my house can liao.

echo,
thx and the weblink is most useful. m not producing enough bm so supplimenting with FM. Hopefully, i could produce more with the longer latch on time.

Baby shall be one-month coming sunday so need prepare.

Seems like it, we mummies don't have much time except for the baby. Kambate!

tml i will be bringing baby out to celebrate my bday with my friends....can anyone tell me what to bring..i scared i miss out...then all of us will not know what to do....!!!!

thanks fab

sam, so u just nurse with/without nursing shawl/cover? Or just with breastfeeding clothes?

I tried to test out the nursing shawl at home with BB, but a bit Hard to manage a crying baby at the same time still hve to drap the shawl over me, then put baby under & help BB to latch on leh

actually i'm very looking forward to bring my BB out after 1 whole mth of confinement(ending in 3 more days). But the most worrying part is the nursing part..

Jes, bb can take EBM under room temp. If necessary u can also bring a hot water flask out to slight heat up if u prefer. But then hor, u bring EBM out fm fridge if not use, cannot put back again rite...(once thaw cannot be frozen again rite??)

On the part of the hospt bill...i must go n dig out the bill to see liao..
sad.gif
...

jess
ya lor. thats bad about EBM lor.. damn sian one.. haiz

btw. do you gals realize or FEEL that you all walk that time legs open big big?? i felt so leh.. and i ask my frd to see am i walking legs open like that she say i am! jialet. looks so ugly. anyone knows when the walking position change back to normal? i hate to walk like legs open sia.

Ivy
hmm extra clothes for him.. diapers.. baby wipes.. extra bottles if ya going out long.. a mug so that u can heat your Milk. still got what. hmm a pacifier! haha.

pastillies
infact no need to buy a nursing shawl leh. i got a jacket just wear it on your head and its quite big enff to cover my body but im not sure for the side. but is quite useful if i want to BF and fashionable. its from girondo that i bought im not sure whether they stll have a not. is like a sweater like tat hehe.

ya cannot re froze or put in the fridge again. not good

Fabbie,
i c..hee... I also super dun like to stay mil house one lo. hee... not used to it la..

Talking about warming EBM outside, my fren brought me a thermal flask from UK. It has a cup attached to it(screw in type)and the cup is actually meant to heat up EBM. u can fill up warm water into the flask, when u need to warm up EBM, simply screw out the cup, pour hot water into the cup n let EBM stand inside. very useful. it's under fisher-price.

jes, pastillies,
My total bill is about 4k, then total medisave deduction is 2k plus. So the $450 is actually under the medisave deduction part?

I'm bored stiff at home! Confinement ending next Mon. Gonna get a hair cut once the CL is gone! But then after confinement end will worry about whether can cope alone at home.

Izu,
I also not producing enough. Bb keeps on crying and rooting for more milk even after I latch on. So also supplementing with FM. I'm taking fenugreek but dunno how to tell if milk supply has increased coz i got prob expressing....

I m super no descipline for this confinement..
I bath n wash my hair in the hospital on 2nd day, started wearing shorts at home, go out gai gai in my 2nd week. and i wash my hair every alternate day after 2nd week. hee... think i will know the taste when im old..

mum2ndx,
I also wash hair every other day..... kenna scolded by CL the first time but i bo chup. Just have to dry the hair fast after wash lor... =)

thanks, fabbie
happy.gif
will check out the website ..

pastilies,
I can nurse with and without a nursing cover .. I don't use a proper nursing cover .. I use a cotton poncho ... I find that using a baby blanket or a regular shawl is useless though cos it keeps falling off your shoulder ...

fabbie,
errr ... why do u walk like that???? I don't. anyone else having fabbie's problem? lol

Hi Jes

Hmm, did you stay in standard single bed at TMC? Which type of operation?(natural/C section)? worry is too ex..can advise..thanks...

fab,
make sense..i'll run thur my waredrobe see if got any big fashionable jacket to use...but wat u mean put over ur head??

sam,
u really li hai..think like what u say, it's overcoming the "pai say-ness";p;p hee i must slowly try...
BTW do a lot of ppl stare/look when u BF in foodcourt/resturants?

pastilies ..

no la .. not li hai ... seriously damn fed up with lookin 4 a nursing room everytime bb hungry ... I do use those baby changing rooms .. if it's convenient and clean. but seldom go inside the actual nursing cubicle.

usually, I don't wait till she cries uncontrollably .. the min she wakes up and shows that "about to start crying" face because she's hungry .. if I'm at the restaurant or foodcourt, I quickly slip my poncho over my head ... and take her out from the stroller to nurse her ... u do it casually lor ... people won't be aware of what you're doing ..

quite convenient - it means u can meet your fren for tea or lunch and just stay put in the cafe/restaurant to nurse and chat and eat ...

practise lor
happy.gif

Long time no logged in! Taking care of the baby by myself is shiong ah! Dunno how Phyl did it. Still can bring baby out to walk walk. I dun even have time to pump...

Fabbie, my MIL nagged and nagged until I gave in and bought the yaolan. Guess what? S$300 and my baby won't sleep in it. It's a HUGE white elephant loh...even bigger than the cot (which my baby also refuses to sleep in). He wants to sleep in his S$30 rocker. I'm fearing the day he outgrows the rocker...where do I put him???

Is it normal for babies to be so fussy? Mine wakes up crying all the time, fusses during breastfeeding, fusses during bath and wipedown, refuses to sit in his stroller or my sarong.

Jess, I breastfed at a restaurant with my nursing shawl. Ok lah...just ask the waitress to give you a corner seat if possible..

aiyoh..my baby really puzzle me!! I was out distributing Zach's cake from 10.30am till 12noon then we head out to Centrepoint cos hb wanna buy shoe for CNY. Oh yeah, we left bb at home.

Came home n fed him via latching at 5.45pm till 6.30pm. Then he slept til 7.15pm and then he woke up again to latch till 8.30pm leh..sian..wonder is it cos my breast no more milk?? I very stress leh..
sad.gif
hb keep saying must feed bb using bottle liao cannot latch cos he take too long.

nursing in public
I had 2 experiences with bfg in public. One was at Great World City, where I used their childcare room, which has 2 nursing cubicles. The room is very nice! I think it's newly done up, and is aptly named 'Baby Splendor'. Hehe... The 2nd time was at church, where I used my Obuba nurshing shawl, which I bought from a BP here. It wasn't too difficult, but I did need my husband's help to get my baby in at first and when it was time for her to switch sides. But I think it should be manageable once I get more practice. I definitely want to be able to bf in public - otherwise will be very difficult to go out with bb if have to rush back every time!

Spaghetti,

Why ur yaolan so expensive? Mine only cost $80. My baby at 1st dun want sleep at yaolan till we change the cloth. The one that come with the yaolan is nylon type n got holes, she dun like. We use indonesia batik. She love it. We only use it during daytime sleep. Maybe u might like to change the cloth?

I also buy a softer material cot mattress bedsheet for my daughter. She dun fuss liao. Cost me $80 at Aussino. But at least better than she dun sleep at the cot at all. I also spent $299 on baby cot.

Guess babies are different, just as us. All different in our ways. My daughter generally dun fuss much. Except she got a short temper. If we make her wait a bit for her milk, she will tear down the house with her wailing. Guess we just got to try different methods to find out wat our babies enjoy doing.

I also breastfeed in public before. I never bothered looking for nursing room at all.

1st time was in the car and another time in the clinic and another time at the gynae's. I bought the Obuba shawl & so far it is quite good.. Don't need to be shy abt breastfeeding in the public. It is something very 'wei da' for mom to breastfeed the baby. I never bothered abt anyone looking or staring. They wanna stare, stare lor.. never see before meh..haha

I totally agree with Sam that the nursing room in SG cannot make it. Some dun even have hot water or power point so totally cannot express or warm up milk. But I found out that beside Taka, Tangs nursing room oso not bad.. the one at their children's dept. comfy..

mum2ndx,
is the fisher-price themoflask only available in UK? any idea how much is it?

me oso nv displine during confinement, i bathed while in hospital on day3, and oso washed my hair every alternate day at home, turn on fan, drink a lot of plain water... then my mum kept nagging me & said i will know next time when i get old... but i boh chap liao, coz my previous confinement (when gav birth to #1) i nv bath /wash hair till for the 1st week & i got so depressed & cried, mainly bcoz too hot & sticky & i find myself so dirty ler somemore got to BF-ing... yuck! so this time i tell my mum & my hubby i die die wan to shower, no one can stop me...

SY(popkorn2008),
i delivered in GlenE, 2 bedded room, natural w epi, actually my hospital package not very ex, only $1.7 but the most costly part is my gynae fee which already $2.8K, then of coz plus some other fees like PD, Anaethetist blah blah blah so end up total $5k plus...

echo,
i'm oso using OBUBA nursing cover (bought fr BP too) but i find it a bit ma fan to use ler, everytime got to ask hubby to help me open the top in order to view inside coz i one hand carry my boy then another got to hold my breast so my boy can suck easily... and i oso find it too thick liao, wonder my boy will feel hot or not when staying inside...

mum2ndx
wah the warmer looks good! does it sell in singapore?

Sam
i dun leh.. i feel like my legs open abit wide. but not very wide lar.. when walking that time.. sighz..

pastillies
its like a bigbig shirt without sleeves. hehe

Spaghetti
lol i really cannot take older generation sia! they really must want it their way.. ya mine very fussy and firence de.

Breastfeed
I only ONCE breastfeed in my hubbie's car.. No choice my baby keep crying non stop. -___- and worst i got nothing to cover. so i use a napkin to cover baby's face in case someone look inside.

Hi spagetti
i also cannot take it after mum nagging n i gave in. Its the $80 one and hor... she dun sleep lor... Put her in, she cry... I n HB look at the Yao Lan and now headache.. abit regret in giving in to my mum... Hope tomorrow she may wanna use it again...

Hi gals, Isetan nursing room not bad.. they have a sink, 2 room for BF, hot thermal flask for hot water..
happy.gif

Ladies, can i just find out what brand for milk bottles/teats are you all using? i'm still wondering if i should continue w avent, or switch to nuk or pigeon for the bigger bottles... any recommendations?

pastillies:
sori for late reply, i was busy on Sat with Kasia's 1st mth, had lunch and dinner buffets for relatives, colleagues and frens. so super tiried on Sun, then today busy trying to "simulate" my days w/o CL (my CL leaving on Wed morning). so a bit siong and can only log on now.

anyway, im still mixing EBM and FM now. Now my yield each time slightly improved 60-80ml. Only morning pump can yield more than 100ml, cos i din pump for nite. so in all still not enuff. but im wori once CL goes, i may not have time to pump full 15mins each time liao. like just now, my CL was out buying stuff and while Kasia is sleeping, i quickly start to pump. but half way thru, Kasia begins crying so i got to stop at 10mins to pacify her. bo bian lor, just have to try my best liao, if ss still so low, then i may not wan to express anymore when i go back to work liao.

Jo:
just saw yr posting on yr MIL... wow biao, u got 1 really nasty MIL man. well, glad to hear dat yr HB is on yr side, if not think life wud be a lot worse. Cheer up gal, we need to focus on our darlings now, no time to "chap" such bo liao ppl!

Fabbie,
Heng for me.. my MIL is bery nice! Done alot to help since I gave birth.. cook extra dish, prepare longan red dates water for us n get my SIL to send to hospital for us. when we r back hm, she did alot of marketing for us, cos we r still bz settling down
happy.gif

Btw, Ida send her regards
happy.gif
me having my 4th session w her tml liao.

Carmen,
Me oso express max 60ml each time fr both sides only, Bb not enuff will haf to give FM.. Sometimes I'm jus too tired to let her latch, cos her feeding can drag to 2 hrs kind.. xiong ar!

Feeding frequency:
gals, ur babies normally feed on 2 or 3 hr intervals izzit? my gal esp during nite can feed for 1-2hrs 1 shot...w breaks la.. then wake up 5 hrs lata.. izzit normal?

xuelyn is normal! My boy alr going to be 5 weeks, but last nite he latch on for nearly 2 hrs with on n off dozing n after that he slept till 12am (from 8.30pm) so consider not bad liao..

Dunno y i din latch on my bb now and i pump onie yield 90ml..
sad.gif
thought morning shuld get more? Puzzled.. i so discouraged.. nearly 5 weeks liao, milk supply still not regular. Afternoon pump got 170ml then now pump so little..siao.

Carmen - that's sth v diff fr me. i will finish up what i need to do (eg finish pumping, finish bathing)before attending to him.

Kath,
normal huh? my bb oso tend to fall asleep quickly after being latched. My CL say shld let bb latch on more often to ensure high BM SS cos BB suction much more powerful. I oso prefer to pump.. my bb sometimes too hungry will anyhow bite..
I jus recover from 2 peeling n blistered nipples.. so scared whenever she latched..

Hi Xuelyn
the pump suction is more powerful than my BB's suction instead =P She only like to suck suck, nibble nibble and fell asleep more for comfort. Usually if i latch her, the most last 1 hr, she cry for feed again.

My baby feed frequency is also 2-3hrs intervals. Now at night is about 3-4 hrs interval b4 she wake up for the next feed depend she have enough anot. Recently i feed 100ml like not enough, milk finish she cry for more milk. Think i have to increase to 120ml liao..

xuelyn
ya its normal my baby also sleep for like 5 hrs hehe my MIL she like anyhow leh. my last 3 days is at her house. 1st day cook everything for me even longnan drink!. 2nd day didnt cook liao. and i started to drink warm water.. and that day she was tired after my gal's 1 month she didnt do my cooking.. and ask to call in for KFC and told me that i can eat -____- i told my hub say i dun wan to break the rules on eating anyhow cus its my body leh if anything happen. so he ask her to cook proggide for me. haha even on my baby 1 month(haven confinement finish) Lunch i also got nothing to eat so i eat the catering food. then i didnt know i ate curry then a relatives say AIYO you confinement cannot eat curry!.. then she scold my MIL for not telling me. hehehe Anyway if i have 2nd baby i will still do it in my own house and not my MIL house. cus my MIL duno what i like to eat and what i dun like. i also canont ask her to cook for me this and that like so rude although my hub told me to request lor. and im a fussy eater! hehe

Btw mummies abbott gave me 2 voucher for free swimming and 1 baby could only use 1 voucher.. so i got a extra. Anyone wants? Expire Date April 2009. Applicable for babies 2 months and below. let me know so i can mail out yah.

morning ladies

dee
i find pretty good. i manage to clear my breast in abt 20mins. suction juz nice for mi. hehe. u tinking of getting ameda pump?

Hi Mommies,

Sorry to interrupt. As I have currently stopped bfg, I have this Medela PIS (Advanced) Edition which I intend to let go at a cheap price.

Pls PM me if you are interested.

xuelyn
For my baby, her suction is definitely more powerful than a pump. I'm quite prone to blocked ducts, because I have oversupply of milk, and have had it 3-4 times in the last few weeks. Each time I get it, though, I find that the most efficient way to clear the blockage is latch my girl. Even though I massage and pump, the milk doesn't come out and my breast is still blocked. But once I latch my girl, the blockage will clear in about 2-3 feedings. No need even for massage! So baby is still the best! ;)

Anyway, from what I read, even the suckling motion of baby (light sucking but not eating) is good because it's supposed to stimulate milk supply. This is why TBF babies are discouraged from taking pacifiers, especially in the first 8 weeks when we are still establishing our milk supply. When we let babies suckle at our breast, it sends the signal to our brain to produce more milk. http://www.kellymom.com/bf/start/concerns/pacifier.html

emeraldbride
When do you pump? Before or after you latch? I find that when I pump in between feedings, about 1 hour after Emma's finished her last feed, I get quite a good yield, about 3oz (100ml), which is enough for one feed. Are you pumping too soon after Zach's feed? Also, don't forget to keep yourself hydrated so that you can produce more milk.
