Dear all,
I happened to lurk around and saw the lively conversations about breastfeeding - what it does to you, your baby and most of all the relationship between wife and hubby. I couldn't help but to login and share my story with all of you.
I also gave birth in dec to a healthy baby boy and have been breastfeeding for 3 months now. I realise that when we are breastfeeding, our hormones are topsy turvy and can make us very short tempered. I guess for many of us who are first time mums, it makes us very anxious and our maternal instinct just acts up on us.
Do perservere with breastfeeding if you can but like what jowinbaby said, breastfeeding is not everything. Our babies need us beyond our milk so no point for us to get all stressed up about breastfeeding. Its easy to say it but hard to live to that statement. As women, we condemn ourselves as failures when we learn that there are other women out there who have successful breastfeeding stories to tell.
Just to share with you all, each time i wanted to quit breastfeeding, something or someone with some inspiring story about breastfeeding will happen to me.
Nearing CNY, I went shopping for clothes, happen to meet one saleslady who was very auntie auntie around her 40s, when I told her i wanted to look for loose clothes to hide my big boobs due to Bf-ing, she told me not to give up, she breastfed her babies till they all went to kindergarten.
2 weeks ago, I suffered from mastitis and went to my gp for dostinex. I couldn't take it anymore but upon reaching the clinic, I told the attendant at the counter about my situation and she again managed to psycho me to take antibiotics and to keep at it to breastfeed. She breastfed her baby till 1 year old.
The most inspiring story i know about breastfeeding is from my doula. She breastfed her baby till 6.5 years old!! I really admire her willpower to keep at it!
My baby is not on TBF but i'm happy that i'm able to provide him with whatever feed I can give him. Don't be mistaken that my supply is not abundant. I pump exclusively because my baby was hospitalised shortly after birth for a swollen tummy. Now i pump 3 times a day and can yield between 250 - 300ml each time i pump but I still give my baby 2 feeds of FM each day so he will not reject FM should my supply really dwindle one day.
To all breastfeeding mothers out there, kudos to you, you ladies are doing a great job. To all mums who are not breastfeeding, it doesn't mean that we are lousy mothers, we have tried our best and we can be there for our babies and bond with them in others ways.
Thanks for listening mummies. This forum is such a great platform for lending support to one another. Let's keep our spirits up and try to be a good wife and mother to our husbands and babies.
Take care all!
