normally i will wait for 5 days of no further infection before putting my #1 back to CC. Coz it take about 3 to 5 days before the symptoms appear....and during that incubation period, the child is already contagious. I read it from the HFMD booklet produced by MCYS given out by the CC...
 


Mummies ...

Lucas got difficulty in poo-ing ... last sunday .. he took an hr before he cld poo out and the poo was hard and solid and during tt hr, when he tried to poo .. got brown liquid drops ... I juz called home and it happens again ... I ask MIL to give him plum juice .. any other solutions I can try now than MIL patiently bring him to the potty on and off to try to poo?

just my view hor. If the HFMD strain of virus remain treatable (just highly contagious), I personally will not opt for the MIC vaccine.

I've been talking abt getting myself vaccinated against chicken pox for a long, long time. Maybe I really should get down to doing it, especially when my kiddos are already vaccinated, and my hb already had his before.

. its prune juice hor. Hv u tried giving papaya? Some people said give banana, but I read somewhere before that too much banana will cause constipation instead. But dunno what's considered too much. Sweet potato also does the trick. If bb dun like the taste, u can sneak in some mash sweet potato into bb's porridge.

Oh .. thats my typo error ... I meant prune juice. Now he refused to eat ... including apple .. I ask MIL to forcefeed one tsp of prune juice.

Working in the office .. but my heart is not here ... haiz. Sore throat, fever, bronchitis, constipation!!!

one more thing, the ever reliable home made barley drink - must be china barley hor. If bb don't like, can try adding a bit of fresh lime/lemon juice, added vit C

U know, even chinese in china they oso condemn their MIC goods. I have chinese colleague asking us to ship them FM for their bb. N bcos they can onli have one child, they do not take any risk
 
Jo, for hard stools, u can buy lactose from pharmacy...it is also prescribed by PDs for hard stools. It helps to soften stools. Or as wat Aly_nat said, papaya is a good try. taste better compared to prune juice.

I read the vaccine is for the EV71 strain...the more severe ones. Guess will have to wait for lots of proof before bringg kids for the vaccination loh since MIC. hiaz...

My boy poo already .. MIL juz called mi and tell mi my boy cry nonstop .. dunnoe why ... I heard him crying until very cham .. not like usual cries ... haiks.

My gal likes "Lets go to School" best.. "Letter factory" soso.. she can sit thru the whole thing thou.. "Talking words Factory" she can't, think its stil too advnace for her so after a while she dun wan to watch le.. But i do notice she has different attention span at different environemnt.. when i play watever dvds in the living area, she's more easily distracted and not interested in watching.. But if she's in my bedroom on the bed lying on a raised pillow she can watch close to an hr... ie.. if she likes the show of cos..

Did ask MIL to check for any rashes .. I hope he simply caught the virus from mi .. nt the sch! Arghh.

he refuses food most likely becos of his ulcers down the throat.. b careful.. when he cry bring him to a brightly lighted area (eg window) and see if any additional ulcers in the mouth.. tts wat i did when my gal gena HFMD tt time.. No point relying on rashes cos some people dun get it.. like my gal not many..

Just to play safe, You might wan to bring Lucas to another doctor to confirm?

Both my kids just recovered from serious HFMD. They have ulcers in the throat 1st then slowly spread to the side,legs,hands and even body!!
If it is mild, might not have any ulcer on the tongue/side but jus a few on throat.

The very inital stage,you will see small red spots then slowly develop to ulcer. Must check the top of the mouth too..

Last mth, my elder gal had HFMD too

... and there are no spots/ulcers on hand,legs but just a few on the throat and high fever for 3 days.


Within 2 mths, both my kids kanna HFMD twice.. and the PD told me.. it can catch the viral up to 60+times cos there are many diff types.She saw a toddler 15mths now, who caught HFMD 8 times!!!


Sigh... no choice cos my elder gal is at CC. There is no way i can avoid but to pray hard not to get again and again.

Last evening I saw an ulcer on Lucas lips ... but cant see further in .. boy sick but Daddy still got mood to go gym. Came back at 9pm, had his dinner then force check on Lucas mouth and found few ulcers on the bottom of his tongue. Quarreled with him over Lucas ... he cant patiently comfort him even for 5mins and flare up when Lucas cried and vomitted little on him. Brought him to Mt A. Doc says there is nothing on palms and soles .. shldnt be HFMD. However, there are alot of red tiny spots on his foot, rashes due to viral infection. This happen to him before too. Returned home at 12am and sleep. Kept woke up and cry .. refuse to drink water. Once he woke up willingly to drink water, drink liao tell mi not nice then whine and went back to sleep. And I woke up at 6.10am for work .. so that I can go home early to take care of him. Got my mum to came over from Bedok to help mi look after him ... my useless hb can never be able and willing to stay at home a day to look after him.

Today I'm a real zombie.
 
Tuesday Lucas came back from sch with fever, FIL says he is not prepared for sch yet lah. Yesterday hb says why the sch so irresponsible and MIL says dun go sch liao lah. I simply feel like screaming at them .. maybe he shldnt go sch forever cos pri sch also got risk of HFMD what.

Jo: Pat pat, oh dear...must be frustrating. Must take care of yourself too otherwise cannot take gd care of Lucas. I guess it's always easy for the grandparents to shift blame to school esp when they start to fall sick frequently after going to school. Hopefully you can get hb to 'come ard' soon and be on your side and support the decision. Sometimes guys also quite dense one, mabbe your hb scared to stay home the whole day to look after a sick toddler coz he knows is not easy! Hope L gets well soon!

u must take care ok...can understand your stress and it is very frustrating that you are worried about your sick child, yet can't be there for him due to work. Its good ur mum is coming over to help look after him. Leave the topic about continuing school to a later stage...dun think abt it now..... give Lucas lots of hugs and love...he will get well soon.
hhmm..your hb doesn't sounds like very hands on leh...son sick still go gym.... i fully agree with you...if I were u will also loose my temper! Remember, be strong.... perhaps when things are more settled down and he is in a good mood...try to talk to him with regards to yours and his expectations on his involvement in "Fatherhood".

My nat also kena some virus where she has a few ulcers in her mouth but nothing on hands or feet. After taking care of her during tat period, i m down with the virus too.</font>

I dunnoe if that is considered HFMD anot (like my son).. cos happy mentioned yesterday her gal also down with fever and few ulcers in the mouth and was diagnosed with HFMD.

The best part is BIL cldnt fetch niece back from nearby sch yesterday and she came over and played with Lucas for the whole afternoon! One thing is seeing jiejie eat, Lucas then willing to eat some porridge. Last night, I reminded MIL abt hygiene but she still happily drank the remaining fresh milk she gave Lucas.

Ur husband - haiz.. dunoe wat to say abt him.. son is sick lei.. then kelian vomit a bit and he flared up.. not right not right.. Tok to him when both u calm down.. Ask him to b more understanding towards son's condition.. Kids are always more cranky when they dun feel well and painful..

On Tues.. when i was on leave (hubby din know), he ordered a big bouquet of flowers to b sent to my office.. Colleague told me abt it.. Immediately i tot he not those romantic person.. then no special occasion giv me flower issit becos he having affair outside and feel guilty.. Later he told me it's appreciation for me being a great mum to Nini.. haha.. also dunoe real not.. can come out with any excuse..

Whether it is hfmd or not, hygiene plays an impt part.. keep washing his hands and ask your caretaker to wash their hands clean before handling lucas too,especially during meal time.

Btw, is lucas drinking well? If have ulcer will affect their intake. Give him cold drinks!

There are so many viral these days... haiz.. the weather is crazy making many ppl sick too!

As for your hb, mayb talk to him when both of you cool down.When the kids are sick,both parents sure gets frustrated easily.Tell him your views and ask him to tink back. I am sure he feels guilty too!
