Little Twin Star
GG so poor thing...hugs to her. Cheril also got tummy at nite especially when I give her any sort of greens like broccoli or spinach for dinner.. Ever since I change her evening to veggie like carrot or pumpkin... she doesn't have the problem anymore..

Cheril, my elder twin, was warded on a 3rd occasion, for poor feeding when she was only 1 month plus... Yes, she's been in and out of hospital during her 2 months of her life.. Very poor thing... Was referred by her Paediatric gastroenterologist to speech therapist n dietician to access her growth performances as she below the 10 percentile category.

The way you describe how the ikan bilis are being prepared for grinding reminds me of the way I did my Korean side dish (Spicy Ikan Bilis)..
As you have mentioned about the salt content in the ikan bilis, I also agree with it... I have a different way of preparing the ikan bilis stock for my gals porridge..
Bcos ikan bilis got the tiny fragment of bones which sometimes can cos irritation to bbs throat, so I don't fancy grinding it into powder. Instead, I doing the tea bag method. Although it may not extract so much of the calcium content, I believe over time there will be sufficient amount that they will absorb...
1. Wash the ikan bilis twice to remove dirt n excess salt.
2. Place in disposable teabag and boil it in a pot..
3. Discard teabag n put washed rice n meat into porridge and boil before putting into slower cooker.
This way, not so much salt lor.. These bags can be bought at supermarket like NTUC or Cold Storage
Here's a pic of it
