(2008/01) Jan 2008 MTBs

Icy,
My mum said when kid is learning to speak, he may drool a lot too (cos doesn't know how to swallow the saliva while he speaks). Not necessary teething. HR drools a lot past few months, now a lot better, but still drools, not teething for sure.

krystle,
If I wanna have 4, I definitely hit 40 :-( Plus I no more maternity leave for subsequent births already leh. Too challenging for me now to consider #3.

Aqua,
Yes, I remembered you said your supply was good, but you didn't invest in a good pump, hence you stopped after 1 month. So if you strike #2, go get a good pump. Now we (me and hubby) are a bit regretted for not doing enough research before buying the electric pump. Ameda is ok, but wish I could have a better one.

steph,
It's a growing phase. Patience is the key. Meanwhile, encourage him to talk/say what he wants. Keep asking him why he is crying and what he wants. Even he can't talk to you and continue to cry, that's ok, at least you show him that you care for him and you don't ignore his request.

Kam,
For your case, it is quite challenging indeed. If I stay on in my co after 2 years, then can consider #3 bah since got good medical benefits. I think my co must have hated me. Hahahaha... Worked 2 and 1/2 years already delivered twice.

Steph,
I guess like what KAm said, patience is the key. They are at a age when they can't express themselves very well...

babe
Yes, it is today. up to 30% disct for kids' items.

Kam,
Oic, Xavier had been talking a lot "Japanese". Perhaps then it is due to talking, he refuse to let me explore his mouth.

QQ
If I am not wrong, babe is going off to japan on 17 dec.

icy thanks
happy.gif

krystle,
Haha i mean in language which is very long winded and "yi yi ah ah" but I don't understand at all. I always joke and say it sounds like japanese.

Icy,
Oh i see. Xavier speaks "Jap". Sometimes I say my girl speaks "French". Coz can hear some tones with tongue curled up.

Re: Whisper Pads
So most of you also have this "itchy" problem with Whisper. Long long time ago I always thought it's the menses that causes the itchiness and not the pad. Only when I tried another brand (Sofy or Laurier) then I realised it's Whisper's fault! Wonder why they're still on the supermarket shelves...

Steph,
Perhaps Z is tired and over-stimulated? Try asking if he wants a bottle and take a nap? Although they look like energizer bunnies but they do get drained out without realising it
happy.gif

Looking forward to this sunday!!!

Any of you gone to Genting recently? There's an indoor water theme park issit? Issit cold to play there?

Just saw it online and sort of remember seeing it the last time i went Genting. Going Genting tomorrow with my family. Was wondering if it'll be too cold for us to play in the water theme park. Or at least, too cold for my gal.

kam,
Z can talk pretty well, at least we are able to understand most of what he say now, in short sentence. I love to hear him say, "跟妈咪放电" and he will raise his eyebrow up & down...so funni...dunno where he learn from oso cos no one teach him le, most probably from the tv
happy.gif

When he is crying, he don't seem to listen to us talk at all le. He will just whine/cry louder...i guess he is also not sure how to express what he want exactly. When all his request are met & still nothing seem to satisfy him, hb will show him the cane & threaten to cane him loh if he's still ridiculous...really no choice else Z will sure climb over our head (meaning he is in control of us instead the other way round), we gotta show him our limitation.

Yvonne,
point taken & we did asked him if he wants a bottle or nap but he will throw the bottle on the floor le. Will monitor & see how. Tks
happy.gif

and yesterday evening at my MIL place, we saw some pen marks left on the sofa (obviously by Z) & asked Z, who drew & left the marks ? Guess what he reply? He said sheepishly, "奶奶(MIL)画的"!

tongtong,
For my company (and most, if not all companies in Singapore), they only give maternity leave to 2 none singaporean births, regardless of the sequence of the kids. Meaning during one employment, I can only enjoy maternity leave for 2 births. If I change to another job, then yes, I am entitled to maternity leave for another 2 births. For Singaporean births, no limit of how many kids you want to give birth to under 1 employment.

Steph,
When HR started talking, he was like Z. Then every time he threw tantrum without a reason (at least in our eyes), he cried loudly and refused listen to us. We kept repeating to him "don't cry, you are big boy already mah, and you are such a clever boy cos you can speak already woh. You stop crying and tell us what you want, ok?". It works for HR. He would stop crying slowly (not immediately) and trying to tell us what he wants, when he still couldn't talk properly, we started to go round the house and asked one by one what's exactly he wanted. If still cannot, then ask him to bring us to whatever things he wants to get. Now he can talk very clearly, most of the time. Now is another set of problem - he could ask for 10 things before he is willing to go to bed! If nothing works, we just ignore him for a few minutes. During the entire process, we don't raise our voice, we stay calm and be even softer voice than usual. What he needs more is our attention than anything else when he wails/throws tantrum.

Steph,
Maybe Z just wants more attention from papa and mama. He's with your in-laws during the day so it leaves him with very little time with both of you. Morever, he has to share it with didi so he probably chose the fastest way (by throwing a tantrum) to get 100% attention immediately. Good or bad attention they also want although it drains out both parties at the end of it. Sometimes just by talking to them can keep them happy or you can involve him while going about your chores so he won't feel left out.

Hi kam,

Thanks for the update. I was still worried that the party packs will not be enough. Looking forward to the party
happy.gif

kam,
u are my inspiration le, thanks for sharing & your advise always encouraging me
happy.gif
But one thing i am sure is Z definitely 难搞 than HR. Z temperamental character hor...have to slowly teach...more patience which i am losing & i am trying to remain calm everytime he wails/throws tantrum. I really hope R will be easier for me else will breakdown le.

steph
imho, different child different approach. some kids (eg like HR) takes to reasoning. my boy takes on the praise n soft style. my neighbour's child takes to sterness by her parents.
so u must see what makes z ticks and go from there.
they always say no 1 single approach works for all situations. a combo always helps.

Yvonne,
what u said is quite true also. We did thought abt him wanting to create attention and so every Sat if my own mum can help to babysit R for 3 to 4hrs, me & hb will be happy enuff to bring Z somewhere for some quality bonding together. At least Z wont feel left out. Just like last wkend, Z & R both needed me to settle them in bed. They both don't want my hb, dunno why. Usually hb will settle Z & accompany him to bed while i make R sleep. That day, Z just wailed so loud wanting me...ask my hb to open the door to look for 妈咪! Aiyo...then R also cannot sleep with Z making noise (whining, crying) outside the room. No choice, ask hb to bring him to living rm watch tv while i settle R to bed 1st. After R sleep then i accompany Z & then he willingly sleep le, so tiring man
sad.gif

Steph, Z can talk so well!

Kam, wah, so unfair. Isn’t it discriminating for a woman . how can you expect a woman to report to work immediately after work? Giving maternity leaves is not covered under the labour law meh?

Kam, not sure whether HR has gone thru this phase. Shaun now wants to do everything himself like making milk, or he wants dangerous things like switching off the gas stove, taking glass bottle out of the fridge, etc. I had told him NO NO NO many times, but he still insists. Already reason with him that he will break it la, or become spoilt la, then he will look very sad, wei qu and the eyes started rolling with hot tears, like very ke lian like that. If he is in bad mood he will insist and keeps asking. I always need to switch his attention to doing other things. Like giving him my cereal in tin ( he likes to open the tin with a spoon), then scoop in and out, sometimes will waste my cereal when he drops it on the floor. Sometimes only I managed to switch his attention to doing proper things like drawing, but not all the time. Also, he likes to open the hose water to spray and clean the toilet. Wasting water wor!! Any advice how to tackle???

haha tongtong,
Z also like to open the hose water to spray le & my hb just lock the tap (on/off main) so no water will come out even if he depress the spray.
And Z wants to use the chopstick (like us adults)during his meal time instead of his usual spoon & folk.

steph,
Say easy than do lor. Of course at times we lost our temper also. But not on our kids. Once we know we are reaching the limit, we leave the kid to another person hand.

I am very honest (not trying to say nice words) - you are already doing such a great job handling Z, considering he is so active all the times. Jia you!!!

Being a mum of 2 is really not easy leh. Never have enough time for 2 of them. Always feeling bad..... What I am trying very hard now is to teach HR to play/interact with his meimei, so I can entertain them at the same time.

Tongtong,
Yes, last time he must make milk for himself (as in opened the tin, but i didn't let him scoop). I just let him do until he lost his interest. For dangerous thing, I never let him do. If he insists, I stop doing what I have to do and play with him first. Until he is settled with the toys etc, then I continue to what I do.

For glass bottles in the fridge, put them to somewhere he can't reach.

Switciing off the gas stove is a big no no to me. But how can he reach the gas stove?

For the hose, remove the hose, and only put it back when you really need to use it.

tongtong
my boy wont insist on everything but from another perspective, it shows clearly that your boy is willing to learn indepedence. which is a good thing instead of a bad thing.
for me, i will let my boy do, provided i give him guidance. if he burns his hands on stove, he will know what is danger, what is not. if the bottle from the fridge breaks because he slips while holding, i will wipe up the spills and say its ok and explain how he should hold it next time. when he scatters the biscuits all over the floor, i will guide him how to pick up the big pcs and i'll clear the small ones.
actually meaning your boy very willing to learn wor. this is a good sign. shd be thankful.
of course it hinders our bz schedule but i try to squeeze his requests in.
give him choices. if he insist on wearing his clothes, ask him if he wants to wear his top or his bottom, while you tackle the other one
etc etc la

kam
strangely, nowadays my boy knows the stove is hot, he dont dare to touch the knobs etc even if he can reach coz he touched a very hot lid before.
just different style i guess

tongtong
Can let your boy do lighter tasks. Like keep his toys before he sleep. :p Housework - i like my boy to help me take out the clean laundry (front opening) and pass to me while I hang on the poles, save my effort to bend up and down. :p Sometimes also let him take clean laundry to the living room, piece by piece until he is tired.

He sometimes wants to do more "challenging" tasks and I would distract him with simple tasks like giving him a clean cloth and ask to clean the coffee table.

Kam,
Yes yes, I will clap clap and praise him and he will love doing it again. :D

Now my task is to let him watch less TV. :p Been spoiling him a lot for last 2 weeks, because he is sick. Just let him do whatever he wants.

Now I have off the TV, on some music CD and it is a good start, he haven't come to me with the remote control.

I guess our kids are learning independance nw
happy.gif
reach another stage. haha.
Javier also wants to be part of everything we are doing. must really guide them properly cos some actions are dangerous. but my hubby is those just beat him if he cant stand it. i normally am the 'angel' go rescue Javier. talk to him nicely although he will cry when he doesnt get it
happy.gif

i guess daddy and mummy, 1 will be angel and 1 will be the devil ba...

oh yes, talk about tv. Javier has a a bad habit. at nite he falls aslp by watching tv with us. so nw, if we never switch on the tv, he will cry and cant fall aslp.

can you all help me!!!??? i scared it will spoil his eye sight~

jess
last weekend we tried weaning him off tv too coz realised we dont give tv my boy will cry. so we bring him out a lot (distraction) or play with him in his playroom, close the door.
he never ask for tv as much as before liao. but still got ask ley...sianzzzzz my boy dont even blink eyes when watching tv. his mouth will hang open like that one

Jess,
Perhaps U can try the same method as me? I use the DVD player to on the music, then at first my boy would sit at the sofa and stare at the blank screen. But at least there is sound. :p

Jess,
Switch off the lights and close the door, Someone had to lie down beside Xavier on our bed, then he will sleep.

pixie,
yea i totally agree too. most of the time, Z 吃硬不吃软 or vice versa...i am still trial & error on what works on Z, wish me luck!

kam,
谢谢

talk abt sleeping time .. TT always slept very late ... 12+ to 1am leh ... sometime I am already in la la land but she still playing loh .... either she beside me ... or go out find her papa in next room

icy
tats wat we normally do.. switch off the lights, close door.. and he will point to tv. if never switch on, he will cry until the whole block can hear him... FAINTZ.....

steph
good de luck. u got 2 kids to jaggah, must be tough so pat urself on the back, very achieving liao lorrrrrr....

my boy is always 吃软不吃硬. so we always praise until i feel very the fake internally. sometimes me and my hb "arm chio" aka suppressed laugh when we praise x....coz we both know we very de fake

jess
i have a suggestion, but i dont think it works: remove the tv physically from your house. but your mil is glued to tv so this one doesnt work :p :p :p
if my boy is like that, i will remove all the tv sets from my house. total cut off
haha

Jess,
its habit, just like my boy wake up, point at TV. Not on, also fuss and fuss. I slowly train bah..

he must touch my hand when he sleep, I am trying to break this habit cos I cant sleep!

ay mummies, can i ask if duty free (liquor, ciggs, beauty etc) is operational 24hours in airport?
budget terminal got duty free or not ah?

for vernon is
either his father or me will lie beside him while he drink milk
den he wil turn here n there. play abit b4 he zzz.
he need us ard.
light off and door closed.

cheryl,
HR is like vernon :) But it must be me, cannot be daddy. Only 1 exception on last Sunday, he asked for daddy to nap with him (on other words, he rejected me for the first time!).

HR: (cried pitifully and loudly and pointed to the living room) baba, baba, baba.....
Hubby heard, heart pain, so opened the door and came in.
HR happily hugged and kissed baba.
HR: 爸爸,睡觉
HR: 妈妈,bye bye,see you
HR: 妹妹,出去
HR: 皓皓和爸爸睡觉

Off I went out of the room. Both of them falling asleep in a few minutes time :)
