(2007/11) November MTBs

cactus,
congrats! baby girl dust to you!

MM,
you let me know when the crocs arrive hor, so i can pick up from u! Thanks!

re: pre-school
wow, all mummies here very ON leh... me no time leh, weekdays work, weekend also busy both of them and tired out! some more the classes that most ur kiddos attending are either in town or in the west area leh, very difficult to go all the way there with 2 kiddos and having to manage their nap and eating time!
ASHM/lazykat,
is LNT those kind of enrichment classes or is it childcare ah? i briefly went to the site to see, but not much info leh... quite keen as at least this one has a center located in Hougang which is near my place, if not, at least near my parents! lazykat, which one did you go to?

Plim,LNT is an enrichment class. Its a once weekly lesson n they hv a new theme every 3 weeks becos the lessons are conducted in 3 languages - Eng/ Mandarin/ Japanese. The diff betwn LNT n SM is the Jap lesson. Mainly they do flash cards, singalong and some movements/ handson activities for the kids. but parents hv to sit in with their children.

ya i was thinking of the hougang branch too. but i will be moving tothe east in a few mths time so not sure if hougang will still be accessible for me. U can sign for the trial first n see for urself if u like the environment. for me i will most likely take a weekday class so that i can manage M alone without my son n hubby.
if u do join, can refer me or anyone else in n get a discount -if i m nt wrong cos a fren asked me to put her as a referal so she can get a discount.

K@ye, thanks for ur mail. will inform once i receive them

LNT,
They changed name cos' they were sued by SM previously for infringing their copyrights on their lesson structures. I guess they have now changed a little from SM so as to differentiate from them due to the lawsuit. I prefer to stick to the original, dun like OEM...hee.

Wow, MM... then I cant look for u liao! :p

Haven had chance to meet up then u move.. Which part in the east? I also will start looking for new place in Aug, but still dunno where..

k@ye/ smilemum, will most likely move to Pasir Ris - nearer to my mum's pl. my hb also like PR becos of the park n the fish farms there..hehehe. but all these will only take pl 3rd Quarter of this yr.

Smilemum, u wanted to look for me meh? i stay here so long already...hehe...call me la...i m usually free in the day. best stil, move to PR with me ..hehehe

I am looking around too, also somewhere 3rd qtr of the year, but might be bishan to bishan. cos we wanna use HDB loan with the 2nd flat; also wanna renovate this time. I also considered PR but what schools are nearby? My hubby is ok with most places, but not looking into pte..
COs at Bishan we also like the park and the facilities nearby.. I wanna look for u, but always busy.. so tough. Maybe one of these weeks, mon or wed noons.

smilemum,
wow Bishan is very expensive. i intend to get either 5I unit or EA. we also wan to use HDB loan but EA is very expensive n area size almost the same at 5I so would prefer to get 5I instead of paying so much more for EA. but prob is currently i m staying in a 5rm, so 5rm to 5I might nt get approval for HDB loan -case to case basis.

this time i will also renovate extensively cos intend to stay for as long as i can afford a huge private apt or landed hse liao...hahahaha...*dreaming only

for schools in PR, i dun think there is any that are well know as in famous schools. but some neighbourhood schools have shown good grades and are picking up. For me thed reason why i only plan to sell my flat later part of this yr is due to the school allocation too. My son will be going P1 next yr, hence the registration will be mid of this yr, so aft that then i can change the address. i m aiming Nan Chiau Pri sch jus diagonally across my flat. - *Plim stays jus a stone's throw away!

I do not mind the travelling distance from Nan Chiau to PR even if i moved. So jus pinning my hopes for it.

sure, u hv my mobile number? we can meet for lunch - with kiddos or nt?

Sure, we can meet up. My hp no is 91548677. U sms me urs? I dun have it.

I also thinking very hard, dunno where to move to and the size, but becos the 5 years just reached this Aug, so we can only move then. But gotta be a place where my mum finds accessible.. she stays in Hougang.

I aiming Ai Tong in Sin Ming. We r not so keen for him to go to a branded or famous school. So long as the school's clean and accessible.

I also wanna get some tips from u about ur trip to HK... cos I am going in April. Dunno whether I'm up for it.. J is quite sticky to me nowadays. so i guess gotta bring him, but i can always 'check him in' his grandma's while I escape for a couple of hrs..

smilemum sure i sms u in a while.
Actually hb n I are also nt very hardcore abt famous schools. it jus happens that NC pri is very near to my blk. everyone is saying i m so silly to move out when ppl move in to Anchorvale (my cluster) jus to hope for a placing in the school. So we shall jus give it a try n if really no luck, i will find a school that is accessible at PR. I still believe nomatter famous or normal schools , home coaching still plays a very impt part, but it will definately help if our kids can start from a good school's foundation.

Why nt move to Serangoon..hahaha i aim the Rosyth school,...but hb doesnt really like that area.U can actually take ur time...still many yrs to decide before J is due for registration
happy.gif

as for holidaying in HKG, i guess 1 child is still manageble. but if J is very sticky or cranky for e.g. needs proper bed n food then will be tough to bring him for holidays. I dunnno why M was especially sticky to me, maybe she can smell me the whole day, so kept wanting to latch for comfort. It drove me nuts! Thank god my parents were there to help out otherwise hb n i sure would hv packed n left hm earlier! LOL

when i brought my son to BKK years bk, with my parents in tow too. He was bearly 2 then n was very well behaved. So we had a great time despite the hot hot weather. Oh ya weather plays a part tooo. HKG will be quite warm in April, so might affect our temper too .hehehehe

HK warm in April?
Thought its 18 - 23 degrees?
I also dun want it to be too hot.. cos if so, then I wont enjoy much.

I am also lugging my parents along. Hahaha..
Ok, talk later then.

MM,
on the contrary, i was a Toa Payoh/Bishan person, before moving to SK. Nan Chiau P that gd meh? My impression aint that gd cos my ex-colleague was formerly a school teacher there, hence heard some not so gd comments fr her. Things could hv changed by now.

Plim,
i went to the Toa Payoh one, juz realised fr Cindy that that free trials are for new centre. Not sure abt Hougang one.

Cindy: in case you don't log in as the day draws nearer. Have a safe delivery on Thursday. Must post picture of your darling girl ok? And dun worry bout Jeff & Travis, all of us will help him out on Saturday. hehe. I'm so excited for you! =)

Kitty: Missed you at class. What happened?

Primary School: I personally feel that its important to get a good foundation so as long as the school is able to do that, its ok in my books. However, secondary school would be critical as their peers would influence how they grow up and their ideals.

missA:how was your visit to LSH? You met Geraldine issit?

Lazykat, i think I heard from alot of ppl that Nan Chiau is a good school for many years liao...

Alot of things will change but most imptly is the foundation of the school lor.

Like what Michviv says, Sec sch would be critical due to Peer influence... I guess it would be the same for JC, Poly & Uni....

Anyway, i hope i wont become a paranoid Mummy on the education part. Hehee....

Hahaha... a bit paranoid la.. Our kiddos are still not done with preschool n we r talking abt pri sch.

;) J is down with stomach flu. Just brought him to the PD and now waiting for my mum to come and jagar him then we'll go off to work.

Have a good day ladies!

hi mummies,

LNT:

other than the bugis branch, the rest are all franchise opened by ppl like you and me, the ex-shicida teachers are all in bugis and usually you got to specified that you want the class by ex-shicida teacher, one of the japanese teacher from shicida is Kawa-san. According to my friend who went there for a term, there are similar but SM has more contents than LNT.

Personally I find that if you want your kid to join SM, you need to do home practice, else not much effect, like me, I am a lazy pregant mummy who is so tired just running and packing after my boy that I have not done any home practice with him, so I cannot expect any result, once a week lesson is definitely not enough. hopefully once i settle down in my new house, I can try to do some home practise with him :)

today when i sent my 3 yrs old nephew to pre-nursery, I saw my sister dragging my nephew with sleepy eyes, wearing an slightly oversized uniform and shoes to my car and i commented to my sis that, he looks so small and young and yet got to go to school like any adults going to work, my god!, if he comes out from university when he is 26 years old, that means he got to do this for his next 23 years :-0, so poor thing! but then what to do, this kind of society, if you dun start young, you gonna end up with "not so good" schools and then " not so good" result and then "not so good" courses and then " not so good" companies and then " not so good" position and then of course " not so good" salary. in the end, you stay in " not so good" HDB and drive "not so good" cars, in short, you have a " not so good" LIFE! (REALLY????) better materials, better technologies, really better quality of life???

Then why do I find myself happier when I am young, running around the neighbourhood, playing zero-point, evening the adults after work will play badminton at the courtyard, no ones talk about which schools or which condo you live in, only talked about the beehives on which tree, where the iguana ran too and I got scolded becos I push my friend off the swing and I am most happy when the chinese opera comes to the village cos there will always be "bird nest" drink and fried oyster egg stalls ( I dunno, I live in that environment and I truly enjoyed it) But now....sigh....BTW which childcare or kindergarten is the best in the west har???

Happy, i totally agree with u...

For me, i had sort of gone thru the phrase lah. Everytime, i see ppl with good cars, condos etc.. I will envy but i tell myself they worked like shit for all these n if i want it... I have to sacrifice alot of things.. Mabbe time with Claire and etcc....

On sending kids to enrichment classes, well if u hv the time & $$ by all means go ahead... If not, i think our little ones is very happy to have us accompanying them while they played!

The only thing i can do for Claire now is perhaps to give her better food and more time for her!

On childcare, u need to go down personally with Hanns to check it out if u have any in mind. For me, my main critieria is as followed:

1. Any outdoor play area?
2. Teacher - child ratio
3. Whether the place is bright?
4. Fees!!!
5. Facilities
6. The reaction ur kid has towards the place!

I remember Claire was crying when i bought her to some infant care centre.

happy:u're so funny
happy.gif
and made me think of my younger days kakkakakakkakak.

monkey steps is one of my favorite :p

well for all our concerns and cracking of our brains........our this little earth is dying.....i'll be sad once i think of that and......just wan hayley to be happy and contented in watever she do....vice versa.....

status
money
etc.....depends on how u looked at it
happy.gif

evrythign will coem to an end....how much can we provide?when we cannot???how??????
i hope she can learn to appreciated life and fight watever situations tats going to fall upon her ......thinking too much :p

still as a parent.....i'll serach for a good school....dependign on their virtues etc.....too competitive......for wat??????end of the day....u go home and?????its torturing if they're unable to enjoy wta they're doign and life.....dunw an her to come tellign me"why u gave birth to me"??????

happy,
so contradictory la you... :D
anyway, like u said, the society has changed liao so no choice a lot of parents end up being kiasu for the sake of their kids.

likewise, i enjoy my childhood days but i guess kids nowdays dun not have the opportunities; their childhood is of a different kind - so we really can't compare much. at most, i will bring my kids back to my hometown n enjoy a bit of nature and slower pace of life - think it will be enjoyable for them since is a huge contrast to the Spore way of life.
happy.gif

michviv,
sat heavy rain, my hubby kena caught in the jam so was late. hence we decided to just take make up lesson this week - since i'll be on leave for 4 days!!! yet decide which day though.

hope u all had fun last sat! stil managed to do waterplays? it was raining so heavily (with thunder some more) last sat leh... so i let C had a long PM nap!
happy.gif

k@ye,
same same...i also envy those ppl with big house, big cars and no nid to work - aka just being tai tai n enjoy long day at the hi tea...

but hor, sometimes rich ppl also have their own prolems/issues... so every1 is the same at the end. just hv to adjust our own contentment lor.

my hb always remind me of this - else will fall into the material trap. but if i win TOTO, wahahaa... will buy the stuffs i DESIRE, dun care liao. muahhahaa....

Kitty, true lah.. I always dream that if i got a windfall... I will buy things i want... In fact, i think i will use the $$ to pay off my housing loan... Haha but then no chance coz i DUN BUY toto or 4D!

My sis told me that when her fren went to London to study, the parents bought her an apt there. But her fren dun want to come back to Sg coz in London, she has all the freedom she wants but in SG, none at all! So i guess being rich and can afford all the things u want is also no good! Coz i think money can't buy freedom! Haha

true true!
if i win TOTO also i thk i will faint 1st... then will be in dilemma on what to do next!
maybe dun even wana spent on DESIRE and buy property for investment instead! muahahaa...
aiyoh... dreaming oredi... ehehhee...

hmm, i also wun wan to spoil my kid, let them go through life a little 'harder' than just give them like dat... then they will appreciate the value of $$$ and learn life is not all FOC and given. else next time they will suffer lor. :D

happy/K@ye/ weishy,
ya same here la, i m also nt a 'hardcore' mummy...thats why u see i jus try my luck if can get in, if nt i believe most schools are the same.if get into branded schools there will be competition, good n bad for the child.

i m like all of u, i only start to 'bother' end of last yr whereas my mummy frens whose children are the same age as my son alredy started their volunteer work 2yrs back! I feel myself so laxed compared to them - sometimes i feel guilty for nt doing anyting abt their 'future'.

but on the other hand, the standards are so high now...my son already learning multiplications (K2) when we only picked that up i think in our Pri 3 days! I cant deny that i dun feel the pressure. even school teachers (in his childcare) also kept reminding us abt home coaching for his age!
i cannot imagine how difficult it will be when Mischa is ready for P1...by then the standards would hv raised even higher.

k@ye, agree wit u lo. for enrichment if can afford, time n money then is really a good exposure, otherwise i guess its pointless to even send kids to well known academy n ended up no time for play n family cos at hm is coaching coaching n endless coaching....

smilemum , sent u sms liao
happy.gif
ya when i was in HKG a week+ ago, temp already rised. abt 23deg. i even wore tshirt walking on the streets la...by Apr think is gonna be worse than the temp here!

weishy, i noticed something le...when i was in HKG, the locals wore layers n layers of clothings..hahaha hb n i cant help but wonder whhy they dun feel hot. or for fashion? ?? cos when i was in TPE 2yrs ago, temp abt the same...20deg+-, they also wear layers n layers...i would say they looked cool la....hahaha but hot le

mummies,

even as a SAHM, i feel so guilty towards Hanns, especially when he finished playing, throwing, going thru all the boxes of toys and started walking from one room to another, he looks kinda of bored and like dunno what to do next....But i really very tired even though i know i can read him more books, flashes him more cards, do more activities with him etc....missed 2 lesson of SM just becos i am really busy with my house renovation and the timing is just not right and damn i feel so guilty cos I know bb their ages absorb more and learn most, like sponge, so it is really up to me to make the effort to in put to him lor, but then i damn lazy and kept finding excuses for myself, he is still young lah, no need be so KS lah, just let him plays with his toys lah etc....sigh.....KS but lazy, KS cannot be lazy hor! everytime i talk to my fren and asked him what are they doing, they always said, well, I just finished printing memory games and flash cards for my kid, i feel so guilty again.

weishy,

me decided to get another maid cos really tired, want to vomit liao, wish me luck okay.

happy,

dun b too hard on yourself.
you're not alone coz i m also lazy mom.
i thk 'balance' is more impt for both you n hanns.
sometimes just let them explore on their own, no nid to keep forcing those cards, etc.

last evening while waiting for hb to prep dinner, i just spent time wif my gal watching mtv - she will dance when the song is catchy, else will move about on the sofa, go n disturb the phone, or i will sing nursery songs for her to do the actions (twinkle twinkle little star, etc) or just some tickling action going on - let her laugh n enjoy lor. it's simple fun, i guess that is sometimes enough for them lor.

i also lazy to do flashcards with her, coz most of the time she will wana grab the cards and throw them on the floor! grrr.... as for getting bored, is the same for most todds at this stage - let them roam the rooms, take out stuffs from the drawers/cabinets, etc... it'll be a mess but is part of their exploration - coz their toys r obviously getting too familiar/bored already.
happy.gif

hopefully when u have a maid, she can help lessen some of the hsewrk/picking up/clearing up hanns' toys and for you to spend more quality time with hanns!
happy.gif

michviv:: Thank you for being so sweet! Jeff told me you offered to help wash Travis up last lesson.. hehe!! Thank you, LOADS!! hope he'll be able to manage without me. But haha i'll still be lingering around here, I hope i have time!! ehehe!!

MM:: I just saw the email that u asked me to sms u instead cause u seldom ceck that email haha!! okies when bb is out i will sms u see what is suitable for her ok!!

happy:: don't stress out, you must think of little bb!!

kittybride: haha we sure missed chloe!!

Happy, aiya... Dun be so hard on urself... No need to compare with others... IMO, kids learn things fast & forget things fast too... So, dun worry...

Cindy, how u feeling now?

MM, y change nick again? Tell u hor, my Mum just called and "complain" to me. She said, the weather in HK cold, then she went to buy some clothes for Claire... Guess what, the weather is hot now just after buying the clothes for claire!

cindy, you have not pop? I'll be super busy so in case i miss your big day, here CONGRATS in adv
happy.gif

MM, I'll chg my half day lv to full day on Monday. We hv tea after or lunch before GUG?

Michviv, A liked LSH, she went ard exploring, even playing with the toys. There was a teacher who showed us ard and she was very friendly. She told me the Open House is on 21 March but I think you better call to enquire cos I have a feeling she just pluck the date from the air. I wont be able to go to the open house cos will only touch down that day at 6pm.

missA,
i think aft the session bah..cos i need alot of time to prepare before going out..hehehe n feed her too. aft the lesson im sure they will K.O. so we can hv our aftnoon tea or lunch in PEACE!

K@ye, no diff ma, can still call me MM. or MILK also can...LOL.

ya maybe now the weather still a bit haywire. but mostly it didnt drop below 20deg. i should hv there gone earlier

Cindy, oh ok..hehee hv a smooth delivery n be back to share with us ur story!

Milkmummy:not happy with ur nickname :p?????
humm should be either fashion or really colder in the areas they live in...like in tung chung or NT areas....cooler la....also if they went out in the early mornings to work...then its cooler mah.....nigth tiem go back late also cooler le
happy.gif

harrrr K2 akready learning "x" "divisons"??????tough le.....in the 1st place dunno whether i can cope with the coaching at home myself or not :p......me no wan my girl to be a professional......just a normal happy person with enough wits to lead her life
happy.gif
wishful thinking......times will be worst during their time.......so maybe i should try living in Aus or NZL kakakkakak more relax :p

k@ye, forgot to pay u. Will do so tonight cos IB in my car
happy.gif

weishy, ya this milk thing is bothering me now.
sad.gif

u are nt alone. i think in time to come, we cant teach them ourselves lo unless we also upgrade! The other day my son couldnt solve an abacus question, i had to search the internet for a demo..LOL..its so cool , but then it jus feels so scary that our kids hv risen their standards so high that we cannot catch up anymore.

talking abt being KS..my fren whose child in June 07 already in waiting list for K1 ...
kao_dizzy.gif

MIlkmummy:why le....breast or formula ar?????
Haiz...then how?ur friend here still stuck with studying in hk or sin.....worst :p

K@ye, ya thats why i scared, so inform u first.LOL

miss A, i pass u the clip when we meet ok?

weishy, weaning off my breasts lo...cham ah.
now M become 3M industrial strength sticky glue/stick tape...hiaz...

on education, maybe u more familiar le. what u think of hkg's standards? as in future? i see spore's edu standards can bring us worldwide cos of the 1st language we are all forced to learn. not sure abt hkg now...if u think for far, i still think spore better

Hehe, i think in HK, its more stressful to study. Imagine, send the kids to pre schoo/nursery/kindergarden only, hv to go for interview plus the fees are not cheap either! I almost fainted upon hearing the interview.

My HK cousin bought his gal for dunno how many interviews for the kindergarden leh! The fees are like HKD$3k per month and for a 2 hr session! Sheesh!

Even my HK colleagues told me that kids are getting more & more stressed up coz everyone is so competitive!

Weishy, ur take lor... Less stress = SG....
happy.gif

K@ye:.....3k is the normal pricing le......if i send her to those international ones.......4000++ to 7000+++.....depending and ya 3 hours only.....school bus le......havent count in le.....school uniform for private is about $300 1 set(winter) summer set is cheaper........sianz...cannot afford le.......some more # 2 coming.......

SG:no one take care of her except helper......me and andrew hv to fly back weekly or something........also very stresful.....cheaper tickets but no garantee to get on board at all........

k@ye, but stressful doesnt mean = high standards le.

weishy, if its gonna be only ur helper taking care of her in spore n u/hb hv to fly bk all the time so often, i think in the long run will be very tedious for all of u. and i cant help to feel that in a child's learning yrs, its still better to hv parents ard. its nt jus abt education, also the upbringing n all. So if u foresee u nt gonna come bk to spore to stay for good, then u should let her stay in HKG with u.either way there sure to be sopme sacrifices, its jus abt who taking the sacrifices....u still hv some yrs to plan la..dun stress...hehehe

Weishy, my hubby fren based in HK. He doesn't want to send his 2 gals to the local schools as the std of English & Mandarin is lousy. But sending the gals to the int'l schools is heavy on the pockets.

Currently, his 2 gals are attending those angmo kindergarden in HK. His wife wants to come back to SG but he is not very keen coz of the career opportunities in HK.

Anyway, i guess most imptly is like what MM said... Upbringing and the parents being around the kids, just let nature run its own course!

Me is now stressed with childcare centre! All on waiting list!

Re: early education
I agree with some of your thoughts. If you actaully read Glenn Doman's books, it can be quite discouraging. They say if you only start educating your kids at 6, then basically u hv wasted 6 years of their lives. Cos children absorb the best in the 1st 6 years and the knowledge obtained then is retained throughout. This is so unlike our times, whereby we go to kindergarten only abt 5 and then start learning stuff. Hvg said that, being parents, u feel kiasu and worried if u dun do likewise, u might cause ur kids to miss out in the future. what a dilemma right?

These few weeks, being feeling so tired out. In fact sleep ard 9 plus when Matt goes to sleep. Hardly have the mood to do flashcards with him. Hopefully in 1-2 weeks time when i get out of 1st trimester, things will be better.

Just told my 2 bosses yest abt my pregnancy. As both are men, I think they appeared surprised that I am expecting #2 so fast. One even asked if it was planned and made a comment that my #1 is still very young. They originally gave me a new client that got for 2009. But in the end, decided to take me off. Well, for good reasons, the client needs to do quarterly reviews and I probably will not be around. In any case, I guess I am feeling more relieved now.
