(2007/11) November MTBs

Michviv,
I bought the soy-free isomil milk for him as what the PD told me, he drinks but after a while, he will poo big time..so I'm going to get the non soy lactose free milk powder for him later (Enfalactose). He still drinks water though, if not, we force feed by spoon. Where to get rehydration salts btw?

kaye, Heee thank you! For the spree. No regrets! Heee.

Mm, received items, thank u!

Poissons, my heart hurts too after hearing what g is gg through now! He is a brave boy. Stay positive Steph. Each day is a better day.

Cindy, i just posted the shoes during lunch.

The registered mail no is RR622597365SG.

So in total, u owed me $38.69 ($35.45 + $3.24 for postage)

HEheh, put the O$P$ here!

Poissons, dun cry! Mummy must be strong then G will recover quick quick... *hugs*

I just realised ever since our little ones turned 1, like fall sick easily one...

Poissons: when babies get diarrhoea, they loose alot of essential salts like sodium, potassium etc. Its best to give them rehydration fluid instead of water to replace the lost salts. You can buy pedialyte from any pharmacy. I got E the orange flavour.
http://www.abbott.com.sg/family/for_children/for_children_product_info.asp

There is also a powder which you can give him to stop the diarrhea. I used it for Ethan and it was very effective. Its called Lacteol Fort and it comes in sachets. You can get it from any pharmacy. Here is what it looks like. It contains killed lactobacillus so its safe for babies too. I used it in E when he was 8 months. Stopped diarrhoea after 2-3 days.
https://www.mypharmacy.com.sg/shopfront/ProductPage.aspx?CatID=146&ProdSKU=560800021J

That's how my hubby treated my boy. I hope this helps.

Poissons: Is G eating solids now or did you PD ask you to stop feeding him? E stopped eating cos he knew that what he ate would come out so only wanted to drink milk. Any lactose free milk powder would help. But it does not stop the diarrhoea, just helps to prevent it from getting worse.

Go to a big pharmacy like the Guardian at Holland Village and you can get everything you need. sms/call me if you need any other info.

Michviv,
thanks for all the info, really appreciate it!

I will get the pedialyte later. My pd gave Lacteol Fort, taken 2 times a day, but it doesn't seem to help stop the diarrhea leh. PD also gave antibiotics yesterday (Augmentin), she said it's to let him poo all the bacteria out cos' if she gives those adult meds to stop the poo, she's afraid the bacteria will store in his system and goes into his blood and make him even more sick. Yes, G still takes a little of the normal porridge and Isomil 2 Advance. My mum and MIL claimed that cos' it's soy milk, dats why G poo even more. I also dunno who to listen to.

Poissons, different babies react different to soy milk. But in general, it should help to stop the LS.

If not, let G take the porridge water, that will also help (works for Claire) but they will go hungry very fast.

Poissons: I agree with your PD bout the letting the disease run its course. But since its Salmonella involved, it may take a little longer for Lacteol Fort to work. I know at this stage you don't mind trying anything so no harm trying the enfalactose. But scientifically, as long as the milk is lactose free, you should be ok. (but I can understand the pressure you're getting from G's grandmothers.) =)

Just continue with Lacteol Fort, Pedialyte & Augmentin. Hopefully, everything will be ok in 1-2 days.

poissons: Hey just as a support, Dr Chan (our gynae) is a fan of soy-based milk. I remembered the last time I went to him for a normal check up in Oct 2008, he showed me photos of his 2 sons. Pointed to me the guy who is of a bigger size is fed on soy-based milk. We started that discussion cos he was asking me of the tainted milk issue in China. Then he suggested I can put Matt on soy milk. I didn't believe 100% cos I felt he was over-emphasizing since he is a vegetarian himself. But I guess even though there is a tinge of over-emphasis, he would not recommend if it was really bad. hope this helps to support your argument to your parents and parents in law...

poissons,
*hugz* to G and really hope he recovers soon.
you take care too ya.

re: poo poo
my gal had another bout of 'hard labour' ystdy - she tried to poo but it was so hard that she was crying, sweating, turning and twisting and protesting so much it took almost half hr to just poo out one hard stool and she gave up the rest. it was so heartpain, we dun know wat to do and kept encouraging her to push... obviously she was not chewing her food coz can see from the stool, there are fibers and other stuffs that are not properly 'processed'
sad.gif

HB said i fed her too much cookies/biscuits hence heaty
sad.gif
sigh... not that i wana give but she always comes to me holding the bottle of cny cookies, asking me to give her lor...

kitty, my mum is the worst, yesterday she wanted to give A cheese ball (junk food), claiming that after 1 yr old can eat whatever da ren eat!!!

Kitty, talk abt pooing... Ya, better go easy on the cookies. Now, very careful with the food given to Claire, coz if she can't poo, my Mum hamtum me and I ended got stressed for her constipation!

MissA, GRANDPARENTS! Especially my in laws all think the antics Claire does is funny..I almost want to snap when they laughed while i m trying to discipline Claire not to put her feet up at the dining table.

k@ye,
i think Jovan's special thing for sleep is me! hahaha. i still carry him while he drinks his bedtime milk. if he dun sleep after he finish his milk, i'll rock & sing him lullaby till he sleep. issit a bad habit huh? should i kick this habit? i do notice tat he likes to bite my clothes or twirl his fingers ard my clothes when he going to sleep. Claire doesnt need to carried/rock to sleep huh? u give her a hankie/soft toy & she'll soothe herself to sleep on ur big bed?

ankh,
thanks! if u dun mind, can share with me wat was Tammy Fontana advice for ur girl? do u find it useful? issit like wat u find on the websites and books?

weishy,
wat time is haley's last feed huh? Jovan's bedtime feed at 830pm is slightly more than his usual feed. i give him milk with cereal at 12mn but he still wakes up at 3am *pengz*

Catherine, usually i sleep with Claire on her mattress on the floor. I will throw her the tigger & hankie.. She will come and disturb me.. and i act sleep.. Then she will go bite the tigger or her hankie. Roll around before she is willing to sleep

Catherine:hayley drinks her milk at about 7:30 to 7:45pm and already sleeping at latest 8:30pm then sleep till 7am every morning......Hayley's feed is 250ml and morning 150ml only...then she;ll eat breakfast(yogurt with fruits and bread) lunch and dinner.....usually one bowl or more each depending....

Mummmies with unwanted Gain Iq sachets(1-3yr) with expiry before april, can sell me???
Need them for the trip, Dun really wanna lug ard 2 tins of powder.
Pls PM me.

catherine,
i thk jovan is used to the sleep routine liao, nid to slowly change else will be quite tough for you when he gets older/heavier.

for my gal, either me or daddy will accompany her to sleep - usually she sleeps on our bed 1st, we just give her the beanie pillow (she got it since birth) and bolster then let her do her own sleep routine - roll here n there, get up, climb pillows and disturb us but we all pretend to sleep (like wat kaye did to Claire lah) till she tired, then she will zzz liao.

now i'm getting daddy to bring her to bed more (previously she only prefers me) coz i'll probably move to the other room once bb #2 is born.

weishy,
so good that hayley can sleep through with her last milk feed. you can hv plenty of rest yourself too - i badly needed that but too bad my gal is still wakes up a few times (either cry in sleep or got hunger pangs) a nite! grrr...

gingerleaf,
i think GianIQ does not come in sachets. When Abbott gave me the free sample, they gave me a small tin.

Super busy today, we have colleagues from the US office today....just managed to login.

michviv,
need help... my baby having sore throat.. what can i give, to ease his discomfort??
he couldn't sleep well and refuse water or anything, been waking every single 10 minutes to cry loudly until he is too tired. then repeat the same thing again..*sob*

Kittybride, LOL
happy.gif
Then I am slightly luckier. I juz conclude the she has terrible mood swings only. One min, she is so co-op, the other min, she swings again.

Queenaire, hv u brot bb to c dr yet? They norm feel better after takg the 1st dose of med. On top of tat, try to syringe feed water coz they will reject water at this time. Another thing I did was to rub some eucalyptus oil ard the chest n throat area to ease off the congestion and pain.

Queenaire: Did you see a doctor yet? How do you know its sore throat? Did a dr examine him and said its sore throat? Is he teething? Cos that is one reason why they can't sleep well, refuse water and constantly wake up as well. One option would be to feed him some paracetamol syrup to ease the pain if you're sure its due to pain. Unless there are other symptoms(like cough or cold), I think thats the best you can do for him at the moment.

Any mothers have any Chinese traditional medicine advice?

Poissons: How's G? Oh, and just out of curiosity, did your PD test G's poo? Or else how did she know its Salmonella? Did G have high fever as well?

gingerleaf:the last time i did when travelling,i use zip lock bag for hayley's milk.

ASHM:GREAT!!!!!!!!yes yes hayley can join
happy.gif
and u guys can see me with my suoer big tummy liao loooooo :p

kittybride:i guess all these depends gretaly on our little ones.....some can drink water an ddun wake up some just cry cry and cry.....so depending on caretakers whether they're firm enough or not.....with grandparents around.....will be difficult too.

Queenaire:maybe u would like to try to use abit of honey with water?(JUST A LITTLE HALF A TEASPOON)
Heaty stuffs also causes sore throat/excessive crying too.......

Michviv,
thanks for asking. in the end, we brought him to kkh in the evening after pressure from both grannies. the doc there didn't even want to see his poo or his swollen butt, just told us that it is common for him to poo for 5 to 7 days, as long as he is not dehydrated (still drinking, can pee, tongue not dry, etc) shld be ok, but if he is vomitting, then he shld be admitted. She gave us some cream for the butt and pedialyte pops (i didn't managed to get this from pharmacy) and sent us home. And she said it might not be Salmonella, could be just viral.

From last night till morning, he is still poo-ing...wonder when will it last. My PD did not test G's poo cos we went on Sunday and she mentioned the lab is closed. She said it's Salmonella cos' she saw and smelt the poo (it was stinky and slimey). Nope, so far G didn't have fever, cross fingers and toes.

Poissons - You also must take care of yourself ah... i know it's very tiring to juggle between work and look after a sick todd... this episode is going to end soon
happy.gif

Poissons, u bought him to KKH A&E too? Did the doc at KKH told u abt FAT (Food, Activeness, Temp)

Yup, the espiode going to end soon! Dun worry!

Me, so sianz... Mum not feeling well, Claire still giving me constipation problem. Torture to feed her chinese medicine everyday... Aiya, i felt so defeated.... Really want to take NPL and visit my sis in london liao.

k@ye: wow me also want to go london leh.. haha.. me can fly to anywhere but its the expensese and hotel which makes me stay put here.. sigh.. so sian. C still having the constipation problem once in a while too. The doc mentioned to me as long as they got poo then its ok. Even a few gorli. So I half give up liao too.

Possion: Hugs hugs to you and G.. Hope he gets well soon..

Mummies, could you please download the registration form from www.juliagabriel.com and fax or mail it to Michelle together with the registration fee which you can pay it with your credit card. This is just to waitlist our todds and she will let us know when there are slots available for this class. Due to the different timings, I guess not all the todds will be in the same class this time. I am putting Ashton in the 2pm class as it is going to be a bit late for his dinner by the time we finish the class at 6.30pm if we were to take the 4pm class.

2. Ashton - 2pm class
3. Travis
4. Ashley
5. Ethan
6. Arielle
7. Ying Ching

Porridge Water - I was taught to mix the porridge water in the milk for Ash - this will make him fuller since he seems not to like eating! Always keep his food in the mouth or take a long time to finish his meal..... Any mummies tried that before?

missA - How SM? You think it's helpful? Lots of home practise correct? I am still toying with the idea whether to enrol Ash into it.....
happy.gif

Thanks Mummies for all the hugs and concerns.
I also dunno how to take care of myself, just practise good hygiene at home, and it doesn't help that G only sticks to me now, his daddy who didn't have as much contact with him than me also got infected. Feel so tired lor..hardly had 5 hrs of sleep every night now.

think abt it, dunno want to have number 2 or not...sigh.

ashm, for JG can we do a trial 1st?

grace, has ur fren update you on the hou ning? This mth EYS giving 20% off so tot of stocking up.

Cindy, thanks... Me still hv not checked my account yet! HAhaha!

ASHM, yup... This plan has been in my head since Jan liao.. but i need to settle my $$$ first before can go London for at least 2 mths. For Ash problem, sound cruel but mabbe this might held... U know hor, he dun want to eat rite.. Dun let him eat... Wait till he's really hungry then let him eat...Mabbe then he wont keep the food in his mouth for long.

Mambobb, actually the reason for Claire's constipation is she dun want to shit everything in one go.. So, ended up always like hard stools.. Hopefully, she will realise that if she poo everything at one go n dun hv to be forced fed the awful medicine... Her problem will be resolved.

MissA, i dunno whether the colostrum will cause her to be heaty or not.. coz i stopped giving her that and now she s on Chinese mediciation. Mabbe i will ask the TCM again... My PD did mention that colostrum more for immunity.

missA - Yes can go for trial but we have to call them end of next month or April to see if they have slots or not. Cannot waitlist them for trial classes.... Please call Michelle to check it out.....

K@ye - Tried your method liao.... once he refuse to eat, i just take the food away. You can vomit blood when you feed him man.....sigh..... Porridge water good?

Poissons: Was telling my hubby about G and he said in his opinion it seems unlikely to be Salmonella cos that infection has a very high fever and he would hospitalize such kids (when he used to work at KK A&E). He thinks its most likely a Rotavirus infection. E had high fever when he got his vomitting/diarrhoea episode but luckily it resolved within a week. Just need some time to let the infection pass.

Happy 15 months to all Toddlers! =)

ASHM: Thanks for the info. I thought the fees were $480 leh...cos thats what they said when they emailed me. Hmmm...

k@ye,
last 3 nights i lie down beside J (on the big bed beside his cot) while he drinks his milk. i put his pillow beside him & i'll pretend to sleep too. after milk, he'll be sleepy & roll ard or situp in bed. but sometimes he move till edge of bed & i gotta move him back beside me. last 2 nights he still din fall asleep on his own after almost 30min. i still gotta rock him for awhile. yday nite he fell asleep but when i move him to his cot, he woke up & asked for milk! normally how long does it take for C to fall asleep? how many scoops of cereal do u add to her bedtime milk?

weishy,
H sleeps early! J only drinks bedtime milk at 815pm. normally he sleeps by 830pm. sometimes he refuse to sleep till as late as 1030pm! then he wakes up as early as 6am. how long is H daytime nap & wat time? H doesnt take milk between lunch & dinner anymore?

kittybride,
u r rite. it's getting hard to rock him now. most of the time i put 1 leg on the bedframe & support most of his body wt with tat leg. how long does it take for C to fall asleep?

k@ye/weishy/kittybride,
sorry for the many qns. i really v desperate. wan to solve J's sleep problem. worried tat his constant waking at night might start to affect his development. other mummies, if u have other suggestions, pls share with me, okie? thanks a million!

ASHM, depending when u all hv high tea lor.. Usually the 1st week of the month, me cant take leave...

Btw, when u getting the "kai nai tea" from me har? Porridge water usually used when got diahorrea then i feed Claire. Hv u tried feeding Ash other stuff mabbe like pasta or stuff? Or, i do put a bit of salt & oil in Claire's food now.

K@ye - ok lets go for it next week or Feb 27! I will take the kai nai cha from you when we meet?

I give Ash macroni, rice, bread, porridge, soup. Very minimum oil and salt though.......... I know should give him more variety.... so difficult man.....especially for working mothers...
