hope: ehh.. yakult cannot take when diarrhoea.. coz will trigger more diarrhoea.. coz the list that i am given.. all dairy products probited.. and also yakult..

audrey: ur expertise needed.. should i wake teng up to take his med? meals if dun want to take.. can still let him sleep right?.. just med.. i not too sure.. then his case scared dehydration.. so should stil wake him up drink half stregnth milk?
 
Astro: i love to feed bb med using the syringe.. a bit sadist hor...its so much faster and easy...i think u also just chop chop use the syringe to feed.. dun be too traumatise by it, its a very quick and painless process, i find tat it helps if u distract him immediately after the syringe feed.

u were asking how to train bb to drink from straw right, i googled and this was 1 way suggested.

Start with juice boxes. These allow for the drink to be squeezed while the baby has the straw in her mouth. Squeezing it makes the juice go up the straw, so baby can understand what exactly it is used for. The only problem with these drinks is, if baby holds it, it will be a huge mess, since she will squeeze it. Make sure an adult is holding the drink at all times.

What kind of juice that come in a box that baby can drink now? How about milo in a box?
 
star: sigh. tat time i went to a PD's clinic for his jabs.. then one bb maybe very high fever.. then blur blur.. then mum just feed syringe. he guai guai sip the medicine .. my boy also lblu blur. but yell till face went red and then white..

hope: maybe in ur case constance didn't throw up? i not too sure. it's on te paper lah.. with ahowl list of food to be avoided.. sigh

For feeding med using a syringe:
Did you lay teng flat on the bed to feed? Nurse told me it will be easier to feed this way and won't throw out. Erm maybe every nurse got their own method. Better reconfirm with Audrey. She will know better.
 
Er hope this is just a recommendation but if u ask me, i think all the juices outside are too sweet for our baby now. u wanna be creative and maybe DIY sumthing urself at hm, so u can put in the liquid tat u allow her to drink??

when was his last feed? DOes his lips look dry?
if more dan 4 hrs..wake him up. SOothe him 1st...before you give meds. Can try putting the meds...in the teat...without milk. Try and see if he sucks it in. But you have to hold properly. Whatever that is thrown up...dont not get another dose to feed. You got acidophilus meds at home? Half strength the milk. Make sure you try to burp him after feed. Just pat pat also can.
 
hahah..i very rough wan lah. I would grab his cheeks...press it like an 0...dan push the meds a bit in...dan quickly press his lips. and sometimes nid to cover his nose for awhile. Beginning he quai guai eat..dan when he was admitted ...after that...difficult to feed. Got to try many ways...tell him meds is good. Sick muz eat meds. Now he take meds...no prob. Baby...muz trial and error. GOt timing also. Muz aim wan...
but since now baby...won't know how to volcano it out. Lie at 45 degree...better...lay flat may choke.

Edde/SQ: how long did it take for Anthea and YE to pick up sucking from straw?
 
Astro: and pump the liquid at the sides, near the cheek, dun aim in the centre of the mouth to pump, will choke one. ya lie 45 degrees the best, hold his head, use ur arm to block his hand and feed.. all will be done in less than a min!

dun know is your teng smart anot, be careful hor, sometimes they can use their tongue to push the med out... my boy did that... so i use spoon to feed and "block" his tongue from pushing the med out.
 
star, a few tries. first couple of times she dinno wat the straw is for, so she licked and chewed it. i tried to do the sucking action to show her, then i think the 3rd try she managed to do it. but she does not suck continuously. she sucks a bit then stop, think she is trying to control the amt of water she sucked bah.

his lips doesn't seems dry to me.. but he is def lethargic.. he seldom throw up.. i first time see him merlion until like that.. so now carry him also dunn dare too rough.. wait merlion again..

so far so good. no more merlion since the last ones at 8 plus.. better keep it that way..

starfruit: i tried doing that when he had shingles and i have to take care of him alone.. doing different ah! describing like one persons with two hands can manage.. but with teng unless u octupus with 10 hands.. else def need another person.. sian.. anyway.. ya.. i need pump at the sides.. else he will gurgle the med one till almost choked one.. scary..

star, now anthea refuses to drink water from bottle, only by spoonfeed, so the straw cup def makes her drink more water.. but also not a lot lah... at most 20ml from several sips.. she is not a "water drinker" to start with, so not a gd gauge for u.
 
edde and star: def when teng recovers .. need to reintro the straw.. and make him drink from it.. can u imagine..every mealtime. i got to sit there and feed him 120 ml - 180ml of water, SPOON BY SPOON?!

audrey: ehh.. teng dun want solids. but seems thirsty.. but not too sure if can give more than 60ml liquid lei. coz if in his case can merlion if too much liquid right? or stick to schdelue.. 60ml liquid hourly? and wake up in the night to feed per hourly also?? sorry.. called clinic once but never finish asking all the qns. now clinic closed liao.. siao liao.. *sigh*

yakult coz got milk. Acidophilus...is the bacteria in its original form. It comes in sachets. No milk...so supposed to aid in diarrhoea...etc. It helps to coat the intestines layer..and not make it so irritable.

Let him rest. You also rest while he rest. They tend to like to wake up at nite and puke. Stand by a pot or something. Or when he's cranky at nite...go to the toilet to soothe him. In case he puke. It sucks to wipe the bedroom floor at 3 am in the morning. Meanwhile...feed him 1/2 strength and increase amt. Dan after that if better...slowly up it. Tomolo if no puke...can relak liao. But like i said..wash wash wash your hands. We cannot afford to get it too. Wash wif soap!!!
 
liquids nevermind. If he drink more...he should wet more. NOw abt 2 hours since his last feed? Can try another feed. Half dose. Tink he is hungry liao. Whole day din eat..sure hungry. DUn give solids yet. Tink teng also wont be interested. Coz give half dose...they get hungry faster.
If another 2-3 hrs..he wants milk..and din puke..can try to up the milk feed. Like 3/4 strength. Go slow...dun wana overwhelm him...

i am feeding him hourly.. 60ml half strength/hourly.

ok let me just paraphrase thist o make sure i am getting it right:

1. if he sleeps through.. let him sleep...?

2. last gave him 60ml half strength at 6.30.. so around 8.30 another half strength 60ml?

3. Dr advised waking him slightly at 1030 give him anti vomit med mixed with infacol..and antivomit med must be taken 30 mins before any feeds.. that means last feed for today is at 11pm.. and if still no puke so far.. up to 3/4 strength but still in 60ml water ? or play safe.. still half strength?
 
in case i sound like i am very confused. dun doubt. i am.. this is more mai fun than shingles!
after this.. can call me Astro, the expert of Shingles & Stomach flu.. ehh.. better not.. coz if put all the capitalised letters together.. it doesn't sound nice...
 
oh audrey.. DR did prescribe me with the bacteria . in sachets right? ya.. stand by in case of diarrhoea.. but not the A bacteria. start with L one. is it of the same family?? familiar lei..used in Vitagen??..

anyhow, i DUN want to use it!

is his feeding better now? if u can, give instant cereal/porridge at the moment lor. at least dun feel so wasted after putting so much effort cooking. weekends i'll cook n sometimes put in so much effort yet they dun eat/cant finish. feel so sad & sian & wasted!
 
carol: he got no appetite at all lah. few spns of porridge no mor eliao.. just drink half strength milk.. small amounts freqeuntly to hydrate him ..

i din go back lah. lazy. think it was only yday and today. not sure about tmr. never mind, i buy another day. actually i din realise no discount, until one of the staff whispered to me that it'll be on. she so kind, i also paisei to just go ahead and buy. not urgent anyway

i also rem i was v worried about YE not eating. kept feeding her solids and she kept puking. then my hubby had to remind me a number of times that it's ok to just give milk.
