your response to your child's push for independence this yr will affect ur rship with u and with the world ard her in many ways. if you curtail her impulses too frequently, it can reduce her curiosity and damage her self esteem. if u prohibit her from examining objects and exploring her environment, she will learn to lean on u for entertainment and direction rather than being able to satisfy herself. she will also learn to mistrust her own ideas and instincts. if she's rarely permitted to exert her will, she may become either compliant and fearful or rebellious.
on the other hand, if u give ur child too much freedom, she may become less adventurous, sensing tat no one is looking out for her safety, may lead to her becoming defiant, bcos she's looking for boundaries to confirm tat shes not really the one in charge. or if u prod ur child into independence b4 she is ready for it, she'll not only resist ur urgings, she'll become less likely to venture out when time is right.
finding the balance btw encouraging ur 1 yr old quest for independence and helping her live within limits u must set is your primary challenge this year.
