i think Leia's speech is ok, average but her sentence structure can be a bit haywire. im more concern wif the fact that she's shy and reluctant to be at new places, not the kind who 'opens up', needs a lot of persuasion and encouragement. did u see that she keeps asking me to stick to her?
i want her to be more confident and independent.

so how did u celebrate Ash's birthday?

kaexin
autum will pass you the flowerworld loot (there's 1 pc which is yours, QQ will pick up her 2pcs from you as well as Bunnie's loot...Bunnie will collect from QQ.) arigatoz!

kaexin, huingee: xie xie...
happy.gif

huingee: ya loh.. bt sick mummy got to bring them out.. they so mean!

pink: i thnk actuali leia is fine.. needs alot of encouragement ba.. bt did u also realise after awhile she was ok?? gals more shy mah.. u want her to be like ashlyn ah.. NONONONOO!!! and like tomboy!

Autum, ah bian oso took the CP vaccination le. Not sure if after taking jab means wont get CP?? But will get shingles instead? Dat time i got shingles when i was preg, gynae told me bb wont b infected cos shingles virus is fr my own body after i had CP. And shingles isnt contagious.

So am i rgt to say pple who dun get CP wont get shingles??

hi mummies,

talking abt CP huh?? me jus brought e 2 boys to polyclinic yesterday. the elder X for 3 yrs old assessment and the little one for his 5 in 1 jab.

initially wanna give the elder X CP jab also, but he for no reason got fever... so didn give, wait a while later then give. Now i think i will put off the jab for a while liao, since got the little one at hm, and cp jab will develop some pox like symptoms too... i scare the little X got it leh... put off first bah.

Belle,

teach your maid to cook more variety food for u, eg. cook soup etc. not bad, your mil still help to teach, my mil dun wanna teach.. sigh!

mist
u havent post small X's picture leh. so how is he?

Enya is having her jab next wed, can i just bring leia along for the assessment? so must make separate appt?

bbmar
I have no idea le. I gave the CP vacc because i am actually lazy and scared. hahaha.. lazy and scared to deal with a crying kid if the kid got CP. :p Ya, i know it sounds lame, but then, if can avoid, then avoid lor.

The nurse at polyclinic told me that giving vacc doesn't mean will be 100% won't get CP.. but even if get, will be very little. I didn't ask her about shingles because I didn't remember the shingles link to CP.

Pink

oh, yah hor.. hvn't post huh? okay, post tonite... post both X's photo.. hahaha..

Little X has low grade fver now. abt 37.7, give him med liao.

yah, make separate appt for leia and enya.

autum,

when did u give the cp vaccin huh? aiyah, me now scare to give elder X the vaccine leh... i scare i also kena.. hahaha

Mist,
I gave EJ the CP vacc about 3mths back. He ok le, didn't fall sick or anything. Well, he did fall sick after that, but it was almost 2weeks later.. so doctor thinks it's very unlikely he fell sick because of the CP vacc. And I more garang, I gave both CP and Pnumococcal jab at the same time!

whahaha..

on the whole , i think CP vaccine is good to hv . it reduces the impact of hving CP full blown . there is no 100% protection , but it is better than not hving it

Huingee, CaiCai,
actually I hesitated quite a while on whether to give the CP vacc or not. Initially i was also hoping that the kids can get it naturally.. but then, I scared about them scratching, crying and leaving scars.. hahaha.. so in the end, decide to take the lazy way out - give vacc! :p

Astro: Yah hor.. So it's quite confusing.. Even on TBF can still kenna.. :p

HN: The same one when Anna was young - Little Skool House by the crescent. I hope he'll surprise us by settling down easily..

Star: I see.. The other day Astro said Dr Ong said NBs will have mummy's antibodies until 6mths old. After that, no more liao.. So after 6mths, if the mum is sick, she can stiill bf, but the antibodies won't get passed on anymore?

Astro: Correct me if I'm wrong on quoting you quote Dr Ong.. *what a mouthful*

Autum: I also gave Ayden his last (4th) Pn jab and the chix pox jab together.. She said this is a new 2-in-1 jab.. Yah, the PD told me the chances of getting fever with this 2-in-1 is higher than if given the jabs separately. I was very garang too, cos that was during the CNY period. Plus, I actually have a NB at home.. Didn't consider that he may actually infect Ariel with CP or Shingles or whatever then..

i feel like we are doing a chicken pox revisited :p

star: 'if u gave bb the jab, u r suppressing the CP, so thus u do not get antibodies, thus when u preg, u do not have any antibodies to pass to bb'.. but i thought the purpose of vaccines is to just give enough tothe individual so that the body generate immunity against this particular disease? and when we have immunity against a certain disease, we have the antibodies aginst it, right? else the vacs we giving our kids.. they have immunity liao mah.. against polio etc.. nope?

the internet source, is from ? i find a lot of claims and opinions in the paragraph leh.. i asked the GP.. coz i brought my mum and ellie for chicken pox vaccines. i specifically got the GP to elaborate to me on this live vaccine thingy. he explained.. yes live vaccine.. but it has be altered and that means the person who gets the jab is 'immuned'to chicken pox without being infectious.. if this is to be true.. then the 'running around after vacs spreading virus' no longer hold true..

secondly. yes shingles resurfaced.. but that is for partial immune indiviuals.. also when imunity is lowered.. shingles hinges on getting CP first.. IF eldery dun get CP vacciations. ya, they dun get shingles.. BUT they get CP! so.. still dun evade the issue.. and shingles.. is painful but the attack on the nervous system is not as serius as CP. which also explains why.. u always get CP first.. then u get shingles (IF ur body is not strong enuff to suppress the varicella virus).. so can i then deduce that the CP virus is stronger?

as for giving Rae the vaccine or not. i think it is a personal preference.. ya. ideally rae can passed down the antbibodies if she has cp already. but hor.. the issue of when she gets CP is impt leh. coz *touchwood* preg.. first 20 weeks.. deformation of feotus.. third tri just before labour. (3 days before specifically) bb borned developed congential chickpox (something like that).. life threatening. and the older u get.. the more severe the diease lor.. so ya.. good to have chicken pox party when young :p

and bm not contaminated? erm.. not true.. BM is a bodily discharge.. there is viruses as well as antibodies in the milk.. so CP mother bf the kid.. kid consuimg CP milk cum antibodies at the same time lor.. it is like when they tell u certain med dun bf.. med gets into the millk.. same with viruses etc.. when i gena cold. yh will gena..all the time.. sian..

star/pink: the mother didn't know she has cp.. one day after the gathering then her rash came out. BUT there is another story behind that.. which like i say.. not fair to say here cause it is like talking behind her back.. we dun blame (or rather i dun blame) her for the CP. coz not her fault.. but her attitude after that (which is contary to how she posted on the forum) irritated me big time.. totally disgusted..

Pink: what u read there is not the whole story.. ppls dunn the whole story. only a few of us know. coz it was via a series of smses..
sian..

caicai: yes. no cp means no shingles.. and hence 'reduce' possiblity of shingles. BUT old get CP more severe than shingles.. so.. there u go.. still a decision to make lor.. exactly like what u say. no 100% protection..

Live vaccines dun mean it is contagious mah.. else we all infected and spreading polio around? ermm. not v logical leh.. if vacs which is designed to curb the spread of infectious dieases actually cause the spreading when i take the jab??? erm.. i am not doc.. but i dun think so.. cause how to explain? :p

nana:heh. faith is a nice name!

autum: no leh. not lazy way out.. lah giving CP vac.. and wah. prevar and CP at the same time.. heh.. dr ong advised prevar by itself.. ha. last time i also gave everything at one shot to teng.. ha. now i think.. wah liew.. better now.. kekekekke :p

AA: bbs have 'natural immunity' from mothers.. inthe first six months.. from birth.. (bf or no bf).. else totally dangerous.. :p I find dr ong using the word immunity loosely. it means reduced (to a certain extent.. but the qn here is to WHAT extent?).. so hence u see. stil lmust take those jabs. but not like IMMEDIATE kind. coz mother got some protection for bb liao.. else those who cannot take the jabs when sick..wah in life danger :p

.. but it doesn't mean from 6 mths onwards no more antibodies transferred. in fact i think even better if can sustained. coz then the bm adds as 'supplement' to fight any onslaught of dieases to the bb after 6 mths (which is why i still continuing though i find it v v leicheh :p.. )..

ya. TBF reduces but by no means prevent...

Astro: After reading your post. You made me clear what I was confused over..

Is immunity = body have the antibodies?

If so, this must mean
#1) CP and shingles are 2 different viruses.. So being jabbed for CP doesn't mean the individual won't get shingles.

#2) As with antibodies, immunities get passed down from mums to bbs too (during pregnancy and in the 1st 6mths of life).

RE infecting others when one has just taken a jab: I believe the quantity of the virus strain in the jab has to be so low that the host body is able to start generate antibodies to combat and kill off the virus to begin with. Thus it (the virus) shd not be able to "migrate" from host to host.

bbjie: No. Shingles is contagious.

i found a resource.. maybe. i quote some key pts .. easier for everyone :p

http://www.medicinenet.com/shingles/article.htm

infectious shinges?

<!-quote-!>quote:

Shingles is contagious to people who have not previously had chickenpox, as long as there are new blisters forming and old blisters healing. Similar to chickenpox, the time prior to healing or crusting of the blisters is the contagious stage of shingles. Once all of the blisters are crusted over, the virus can no longer be spread and shingles is no longer contagious.<!-/quote-!>

cp then shingles or ??

<!-quote-!>quote:

What is shingles? What causes shingles?

Shingles is a skin rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. This virus is called the Varicella zoster virus (VZV) and is in the herpes family of viruses. After an individual has chickenpox, this virus lives dormant in the nervous system and is never fully cleared from the body. Under certain circumstances, such as emotional stress, immune deficiency (from AIDS or chemotherapy), or with cancer, the virus reactivates and causes shingles. In most cases of shingles, however, a cause for the reactivation of the virus is never found. Anyone who has ever had chickenpox is at risk for the development of shingles, although it occurs most commonly in people over the age of 60. It has been estimated that up to 1,000,000 cases of shingles occur each year in the U.S.

The herpes virus that causes shingles and chickenpox is not the same as the herpes viruses that causes genital herpes (which can be sexually transmitted) or herpes mouth sores. Shingles is medically termed herpes zoster.

<!-/quote-!>

so can i catch shingles directly? No

<!-quote-!>quote:

Yes, shingles is contagious. Shingles can be spread from an affected person to children or adults who have not had chickenpox. But instead of developing shingles, these people develop chickenpox. Once they have had chickenpox, people cannot catch shingles (or contract the virus) from someone else. Once infected, however, people have the potential to develop shingles later in life.<!-/quote-!>

heh. wah. we have a FAQs here for shingles and chicken pox.. kekeke..

AA: hmm technically.. :p shingles and chicken pox same virus..

i did a v quick google.. immunity not necessarily equate to just having antibodies because immunity is bigger broader umbrella than antibodies.. so ican have antibodies against cp. but in my immunity system is suppressed at that pt in time.. the antibotides also 'no use'.. shingles still surface.. wah. i got a 'a-ha' moment!.. hahahaha

and i like ur rephrasing of host having just sufficient amt of virus to generate the antibodies..but cannot be infectious.. yep.. that is exactly what i meant!
happy.gif

AA: aiyoh. u know. that is so familiar because tha tis on one of the shoutout in one of the affected mum's fb :p though that is paraphrased lor..

ya. shingles many times.. so i worried abt teng. coz his immnity got compromised following the lymph nodes then middle ear nifection.. haiz.. oh well...

oops.. i went to re-read another post and realised that passing CP antibodies doesn't mean the child will not get CP.

so am deleting my this original post. haha.

Astro,
just a quick summary

1. If catch CP before = may catch shingles
2. If never catch CP before = will not catch shingles
3. If never catch CP before = may catch fatal CP later on in life.
4. If catch CP later on in life = may catch fatal shingles later on in life/

Are the above statements correct?

caicai/huingee,
i also believed that the CP vac will help to reduce the pain when they get it(not so shiong). but its not too late to jab when confirmed.

my gf gave her 5yrs CP vac then 2 day later he got it.

Autum: If someone only reads what you wrote without reading Astro's post, she will get even more confused..

Basically,
#1. One can only catch CP once in life. If one catches it in the later stage of life (ie at old age) this can be potentially fatal.

#2. One can catch shingles many times in one's life, even if the person has got CP before. When a person who has CP/shingles before is exposed to CP virus, he may get shingles (again).

Astro: What is so familiar? The picasso quote? Then another one.. "I think therefore I am" This is Descartes.

AAA,
but the doc tells me i might get CP again as the 1st was so much milder. SH*T, hope i am not going to get it anymore, as i get older!

autum: nice summary :p
but pt 4.. what is fatal shingles? :p
i found this..

<!-quote-!>quote:

What are the complications of shingles?

Generally, shingles heal well and problems are few. However, on occasion, the blisters can become infected with bacteria, causing cellulitis, a bacterial infection of the skin. If this occurs, the area will become reddened, warm, firm, and tender. You might notice red streaks forming around the wound. If you notice any of these symptoms, contact your health-care professional. Antibiotics can be used to treat these complications.

A more worrisome complication occurs when shingles affect the face, specifically the forehead and nose. In this situation, it is possible, although not likely, that shingles can affect the eye, leading to loss of vision. If you have shingles on your forehead or nose, your eyes should be evaluated by a health-care professional.

A rare complication of shingles is known as Ramsay-Hunt syndrome. In this case, the cranial nerves (cranial nerves V, IX, and X) are involved. Symptoms may include peripheral facial nerve weakness and deafness. The typical rash is often observed around the ear and ear canal.<!-/quote-!>

..

so consider fatal or not? :p

my colleague tells me i am possessed liao. coz she saw me laughing at the laptop.. and keep searching on shingles and cp! :p:p

caicai: shingles dun cause death. it is the complications. particularly in the immunocompromised.. meaning if got aids, cancer, heart dieases etc. then shingles v dangerous.. cause it attacks the nerves etc.. did ur grand father have any existing conditions? i think it is almos tlike the H1N1.. it doesn't kill but on the certain gp.. it is highly dangerous..

kaexin: :p:p

i got it liao lah!! the confusion is in the word 'catch'!!! u catch CP. coz CP infectious.. but u can't 'catch' shingles.. cause shingles 'develops within' a person.. right? so it shd be

catch CP
develop shingles

????

or i make it more confusing?! hahahaa :p

aa: picasso quote.

oh.. just read. shingles. to get second bout of shingles.. v v v rare.. kekeke. so i am less worried about teng liao :p

Kaexin: That was what the doc told me when I got mine long ago.. Like yours, mine was really really mild - I could literally count the number of spots - less than 10 over my entire body.. Was so happy cos I got to stay at home, don't have to go school and I wasn't feeling sickly at all.. My classmates were lagi crazy. They wanted to catch CP so they came and visit me.. But none of them got it.. Wahahha!!!

kaexin, how mild was yours? i got 4 on my face the last time - very very mild. Also, they said i got in aussie, the species not the same in sgp, so i will get again...hope i am not confusing everyone.

AAA,
wahahaha.. those were the days right ? young n ignorance.
ya, think we really got it mild! i too can count the spots, wherefore my bro develop full blown.. poor him but who ask him to brg back the CP virus.

CK, none on my face, only on body, less than 20spots. got i when i was 15

steady sia, angmoh's ! yours fm OZ, so atas! kekeke..

siow liao

kaexin, mine not so mild like me...my HB got it after me. He was so jialat that i cant put a finger on his face without touching any CP. me was literally pouring calamine lotion on him : ))

wah . now got atas CP strain! :p

hahahaha. kaexin, u funny leh!

mine when i got it.. v full blown.. i lost count of the spots on the body. i used remembered 'taking v good care' of it.. machiam pampering the spots.. wah liew

hmm. cld yh possibly have ONE spot CP? :p:p dun ahve updates from home got fever or increase in spots leh..:p
