2006/2007-Twins/Triplets MTBs

kais,
Oh ya, I forgot your babies may not discharge from hospital together with you. Mesh is right. Better get one CL first and see how it goes.

mesh,
Hi hi... How are you managing? Great to know that your trio are all home with you now. Any pix of your trio? So excited to see them!

EnJ - hmm, then i don't know what already... maybe since that was like 7 years ago, the thing to do about it has changed???!!!

I remember, they even gave me this little booklet with exercises for it. Now if I can find it, (and it would take nothing short of a miracle...) I'll let you know....

Thanks Dorie!

Been expressing milk a whole lot these days. Now, everytime I express, my nipples hurt when the suction comes on. Is that normal? Sometimes I feel like giving up cos it's so tedious and painful but I know it's good for the babies. Sigh.

Hi all mommies,

finally got some time to get online.

Updates!

Babies Michelle and Joel has arrived on 30th August weighing 2.6kg and 2.9kg at 37th wk. Delivered by Dr Lawrence Ang via c-section.

Will post more when I have the time. Too tired..

happy.gif

Congrats, Betty!!!
Another proud mother of multiples to be added to Dr Lawrence Ang's portfolio. Hee... Seemed like quite a number of his patients with twins carried their babies to 37th week. Hee! Have a good rest and keep us updated on yourself and your babies. Love to see their pix soon too!

Welcome to the multiples club!

hi kevjul, welcome. i am quite new here too and i must say the support from these super mums or mtbs is really great.

i am currently in wk 22 with identicals too. which hospital are u at? becos i am going through a bit of a high risk pregnancy due to the twin twin transfusion that happens to some identicals, i have transferred to KK which seems to be more specialised. Do eat healthy so that your twins can get the best.
happy.gif

hi xbliss, thank you for the warm welcome. I am with Dr Suresh Nair at Mount E. I have not sign up any hospital packages yet. btw, when do you actually signup one?

Congratulations to Betty!
Do update their pixs soon.

Welcome kevjul!
We are all here to learn and exchange pointers too.

hi mommies,

pl pm me if u want to sell...

hoping to hear fr u on your recommendations on which sling to get...

Hi mummies

Like to check with u all..for newborns which brand of diapers is the best? as we know twins size is normally bit smaller than singleton. Is the normal NB size fit our bbs?

Patty,
for mine, I used Pampers NB when they were new born cos the hospital used that. They were 2.5kg & 2kg then. After awhile I changed to drypers (lower range) or Huggies. Both s-size were fine when they were 2-3 mths old. Were around 3-4kg then. Think it'll still depends on the actual size of your babies.

hi kevjul, i dun think there is any package for twins/triplets.. at least not that i know of. cos multiple pregnancies require more follow up than singletons, so they don't have packages. I understand from some mums that certain docs even charge double for delivery whereas most usually just charge a little more than singletons. maybe u can check with the hospitals. as for my case, due to complications, i have to go back on weekly basis for scans and procedures. therefore, i am now in the subsidized category.. if not the bills will be crazy!

hi mesh, what i understand is first few months babies will need to adjust to whatever routines and tend to have more crying fits cos of colic, etc. he even regurgitated milk every feed. my sis in law also had the problem with her singleton and it drove her mad! She tried everything too, sarongs, slings, paeds, which all didnt quite work. in the end, the crying fit ended on its own when the baby reached about 2 mths. hang in there and dun stop trying! hopefully the xperienced ones here can give u some tips too!

Hi Patty,

For new born, especially smaller babies, i strongly recommend pampers new born. it is worth the cost. Wait till they are slightly bigger, then perhaps you can try other brands.

Patty, mine were on Nepia for the initial months, then switched to Dryers/Huggies. Nepia is pretty good for NB, very soft and has the soiled nappy indicator.

Patty, I use either pampers or nepia at night. In the day, I use Drypers now but I don't like the tape. It's like lousy scotch tape. I heard the Giant brands for day wear aren't bad either.

patty
i used all types of diaper brands when they were NBs depending on what other ppl gave. all pretty much the same for me. anyway, they all leaked on my bbs, cheap or ex, not sure why. maybe my kids hv odd-shaped bums? for when they're older, my all-time fav is petpet, which they're currently still using.

kevjul
Hi, you can call TLC Gynaecology Practice, TMC #03-02, tel:6254 2878. I thought i saw package for twins.

Two good doctors are Dr Eunice Chua or Dr Paul Tseng. I am with Dr Eunice Chua but will have to switch (not yet though as i really like her) as there are no packages for triplets. Also, it will be too expensive if i stay on at TMC after the delivery.

Their nurses are really friendly and they make a point to remember your name which is nice.

Hi Nepia mummy users,

Thought of buying nepia for my babies as well. as there is a minimum order of 4 packs from the distributor, juz wondering how many newborn size packs I should get before my kids outgrow the size?

my twins are now 3.2kg and 2.9kg at 1 wk old. Will they hit the 5kg mark very soon (i.e. < 1 mth)?

And also, any mommies doing EBM for twins? Would like to get some pointers on how to manage the time between feeding the twins, EBM, changing diapers and wat not. I'm feeling really rushed.. no time to do everything..

please help!! thanks!!

hey mommies.. jus to let you know i am still alive and kicking! totally exhausted tho! man have i missed so much of reading the threads here!

i shall try to catch up and start reading from 2 months ago threads!

i am doing ok, jus totally busy with the 2 babies, and working from home. so so sorry for not being on this thread as much as i would like to!

i shall start reading up the last posts and try to help new mommies and at the same time chat with my old pals from this thread! (if they are still ard!!)

anyone know where i can find good condition Bumbos?

Betty- i order Nepia for my babies, but i still use nappies for them during the day, so far i only ordered twice NB size (means 8 packs) but i have 1 pack left, which they allow to swap for the S size.. my babies were bron ard 2.4kg each, and they used NB size till they were about 2+ months old..

ok, i shall start reading up past posts and catch up!

Mooch, u can check out the WTS thread. Think the going rate for 2nd-hand ones are $35. If u can wait for a couple more months, I'll be selling mine *heh* The munchkins are now becoming increasinly mobile and able to climb out of the bumbos, which can be a pretty scary thought, if there ain't supervision.

Hi Betty, I express milk for my babies cos it's easier to keep track of how much they drink. But you'll have to make a decision whether you want to express or feed direct cos if you try to do both, it's very stressful for you a you'll need to constantly figure out when to express, whether you should wait for them or just one of them to wake up etc. I found it super difficult!

So what i did was feed direct to the twin i'm sleeping with and feed them direct in the mornings and the rest of the day i express. i sometimes latch them on after but mostly, that's for comfort sucking. But one thing you'll need to be aware of is how old they are. Some babies go through nipple confusion, mine did for a few days but they've pretty much got the hang of both types of feeding.

Hi mooch,
Thanks for the nepia advice! I guess I will order all NB size then..
happy.gif

Hi EnJ,
As I have inverted nipple on one of my breasts, I figured it will be easier to juz do expressing. And then supplementing the breast milk with formula milk. My milk supply not enough to last the twins the whole day, they are drinking 70ml per feed (approx 3 hrly). With breast milk, they will need more feeds as they digest breast milk a lot faster... I need at least 1.3 ltr a day to satisfy them! Gosh! That's a lot!!!!

wow, missed a lot here.....
congrats betty!

welcome kevjul.

mesh,
how old are ur babies now? it must be pretty hard taking care of 3 cuties.......but very soon this stage will be over and the fun stage will start. Sorry i never used a sling!

mooch,
Glad to know that u r feeling better!

J&Smum,
keke...me too gonna sell my bumbo, used only a few times la....but lucky i only bought one :p

lyricit,
me too like u........I use all types of diapers....first 3 months pampers and nepia then almost everything and currently my favourite is huggies dry 72 pieces for 18.90 not bad leh! while going out i use huggies pull ups!

mooch
so sorry i didn't reply yr sms... really busy and tired-out recently. plus my stoopid hp has this really irritating habit of erasing my msg everytime i hit the wrong key halfway thru typing my msg. anyway, it's really good to see you online.
happy.gif

betty
i gave up BF totally quite early and just concentrated on expressing BM. find it easier to manage my time, esp since others can help bottlefeed the babies when you're busy. 1.3l is not that impossible to get. once you're at yr peak, it's normal to get at least that amt. i'm expressing btw 1.5-2l per day. anyway, once yr babies start weaning onto solids ard 6 mths, their demand for BM will drop.

best_twins
are pull-ups useful? it's like a battle everytime i try to dress my babies these days. they keep crawling away/twisting and turning. and when i try to pin them down, they howl in protest... so maddening. putting on diapers is esp difficult. only thing is, pull-ups are ex, aren't they?

Best twins & Lyricist,
How old do your babies have to be before they use pull ups?

I'm beginning to think my babies' development is very slow cos they are 12 weeks old and only drinking 70-90 ml a feed. Sometimes less if they're fussy.

And Lyricist, how'd you get to 2l a day? On very good days, i'm only doing abt 1.4l.

Bumbo mommies, is it really useful? I heard someone saying it actually slows their development.

lyricist,
I like pull ups because my boys cant remove it, huh man.......mine are also giving me the same problem as yours since last month when it comes to dressing up, cant even apply lotion and put on diapers, let alone massage and other things. Trust me they know how to remove their diapers (esp they are facinated by the sticker sound). If its pull ups they dont seem to play with the diapers. yes its ex la about $17 + for 32 pieces L size.

Enj,
I think you can wear them anytime as long as u can find the size (correct me if i m wrong mommies). But usually I think 3 months and up....For me I only started when my babies started to roll over and creep
happy.gif
Hope this helps.

About the milk intake, how much a baby drinks depends on individual babies and their weight i guess, my second one was also drinking very less until he was 4months. if your babies are peeing and pooing regularly and thrieving well there's nothing to worry. However, u should discuss this with your pd.

About the bumbo: I dont think it wil hinder the devleopment if we use it correctly, of course u can't let the baby sit on that the whole day. I only use it when i got to rush to the toilet or do something while no one is around. Other than that its also good for solid feeding and give them a different view of the surrounding since they cant sit well on thier own yet.......may be the other mommies will share more pointers
happy.gif
. I am not a fan of bumbo tho, coz my first boy's leg always gets stuck and i got to call my mum to help with pulling him out :p and he also knows how to wriggle out of it. But my second one loves it

Hi mommies

Just to update you, I delivered my twin girls on 31st August through a C-section. They weighed 2.6 kg each.

The delivery was uneventful, but the recovery is not very fun. After the normal delivery of my first baby, this feels difficult.

Betty
I am experiencing all the things you are. I constantly doubt my ability to produce sufficient milk for the girls, and am too tired to stick to the 3 hour regime at nights.

Can I ask the more experienced mummies, how do you increase the milk production if you are expressing the same duration (approx. 20 mins for each side) about 7-8 times per day?

Thanks!

EnJ
sorry, i think i miscalculated my EBM amt.. i think more within the (more reasonable) range of 1.5-1.7l a day. i didn't really do anything special though.

in my experience, bumbos are really not worth the money if you pay full price for it. my girl sat on it for all of 2 weeks before she figured how to lever herself out of it, and promptly fell on her face. fortunately it wasn't serious. now, 3 months later, my boy's starting to do the same. they also hardly sit in them. try to borrow/rent/buy secondhand if you really want one. i only put them in it when i need to do something, there's nowhere to stick them and it's too troublesome to haul their rocker/highchair to where i am. even so, i make sure they're well within my sight. but like best_twins said, it does give them a good perspective of the world when their neck is strong enough for them to sit upright. only good thing is, if they do fall out of the bumbo, it's usu not as serious as, say, falling out of the highchair, since the bumbo's much closer to the ground.

best_twins
haha yeah.. i hv the same problem as you. my boy knows how to peel off his diaper tape himself. sometimes it's almost like a comedy routine where i stick it on, he peels it off, i stick it back on, and so on.. it would've been funny if it wasn't so exasperating. takes forever to get them dressed.

Hi Lyricist,
How many times do you express a day? And how much milk were you able to express each time? Is it a constant supply or do you have peak hours? thanks!

Hi Nora,
Congratulations!!
Me too, for night expressing, I'm usually too knocked out to do any expressing.. imagine for a 3 hourly regime, 1 hour to do feeding for both babies, 1 hour to pump, 1 hour to sleep? I am already feeling like a zombie by the 3rd/4th day.. until recently when we revisited the PD, he advised us not to follow any regime yet, but demand feed the babies, saying that their regime will kick in later.. wonder when?

betty
i express every 6 hrs, ie 4 times a day. i tend to get the most qty first thing in the morning, up to nearly 0.5l. other times i get ard 300-400ml. i don't really track my exact supply qty per pump as each pump usu exceed the bottle's highest limit marking (330ml), so this is all by estimation.

hey nora
congrats on the new additions to the family! how's yr oldest taking to his/her new sisters?

hi ladies,
was doing some shopping earlier and realised there's 2 kinds of teats, silicon (the harder version) and latex (the softer one). which one is better? any advice? thanks!

HI ladies,
I am new to the thread.
Have been following the archieve for twins/ triplets MTB but has not post anything. Also, still reading the 2006 archieve. Have not reach the latest post.
I would like to know if anyone has the contact number for experienced and friendly CL who can take care of twins.
My EDD is 15/04/08, and I am with KKH.
I have asked around, most CL once heard there are twins, they turn me down, saying that they do not have such experience.
Thank you very much.

dodo
you're referring to the nuk bottles? i'm using the silicon ones, which works fine for my bbs. they've been using it since birth so they're used to it.

youyou congrats

Here are some numbers that were passed to me. Advice is to just chat with them first and then inform them you are having twins
happy.gif

i do that as i will be having triplets! Dat really blew them away :p but i still manage to find a CL. It would be easier esp if you have other help besides the CL, like your mom or mil or maid.

CL numbers -
Ah Xiu: 91495800 (she's here only for another week. will be back in spore in Dec)
Auntie Ming Ying - 020167114368
Auntie Xuehua - 02076882803
Mdm Low - 60169342843 / 095411405/ 81587143
Ah lian - 02076867493
Xiuzhen - 02076876728 / 94339086

hope u find a suitable CL

Hi kais,
Thank you very much for the info.
Just curious, those numbers starts with 0207, does it mean they come from Malaysia?

Hi mummies

When shd i pack my hosp bag ah? I am now in my wk30..just went for my check up and everything is fine, each bb 1.6kgs at this moment..hope i can carry them up to 37wks like most of you here.. God bless..

Hi,

I'll be going for my checkup tomorrow. Hope that both of them have good weight.

For those mummies who managed to keep the babies in for more than 36 weeks, any advise? I'm constantly worried about going into premature labour as the Braxton-hicks contractions come pretty often. Suddenly my tummy will just harden up. Very scary.

Hi ah da

how r u lately? how many wks r u in now? Reg the Braxton-hicks, what's it actually? Have read thru the website abt it but still bit blur blur ler..sometime i also feel some parts of tummy getting harder, i thought it's the baby stretching itself inside? cos sometime i can feel that part like very round, i assume is baby's buttock or head like that ler...is the braxton hicks contraction painful?

hi mummies

how long did it take you to produce enough milk for your twins/triplets? right now, i'm expressing enough only for one baby, so still have to supplement with formula.

lyricist

my toddler seems quite indifferent to the arrival of the twins. the only times he shows an interest are during the feeding, when he insists on bottle feeding the girls. we try to involve him somehow, and he seems quite happy just to carry the empty bottles to the kitchen. we are quite pleased with the lack of jealousy he is currently exhibiting.

ah da

i started having braxton hicks at about 34 weeks, and those contractions actually caused my cervix to start thinning quite rapidly. my gynae then put me on bedrest (not very strict one though) and prescibed nefidipine to relax the uterus, causing fewer contractions. i was eventually scheduled for a c-section at 37 weeks as the babies' growth seemed to have slowed down, and by then my cervix was completely effaced. so trying to stay off your feet is the last leg seems rather important.

mooch,
To me, Bumbos are cute and nice to have your babies photoed in it, but can't keep them in there for long. I didn't invest in the Bumbos after a few mommies told me not to. Esp since my gals had "fat" thighs. They probably can't fit in there for long either. hahaha...

lyricist & twinsmom,
I have resort to having lots of small items like small boxes, bottle caps, keyholder, post-it-notes, handphone pouches, Baby Bites, etc. near my diaper changing area. This is the only way I can keep my gals still when I change their diapers. I used to wrestle with them till I perspire and feel like whacking them. Then my cousin advise me to use her trick which is to give them something to play (not a toy) and change that item as often as you can, then rotate the items with each diaper change. This trick has worked quite well with my gals to date.

Nora,
Congrats!

Youyou,
Congrats to you too! Yes, most CLs are Malaysian, so their contact numbers are Malaysia land lines or mobile numbers.
happy.gif

Patty,
You can pack your hospital earlier, so you won't panicked in the event you need it urgently. Have it ready, so in case its not convenient for you to go home to fetch it, your HB can just go back home and grab it to the hospital.
happy.gif

Ah Da,
Jia You!!! I believe relaxing and not worrying is the key to carrying babies to term. So enjoy your pregnancy and don't even think about pre term delivery.
happy.gif
BH is quite normal if you're in the last leg of the race. Just take it easy and try to remember how it feels. I can't recall them now! Kekeke...

hi mommies. how can we know when the babies are ready to move from 8 feedings a day to 7 feedings a day. my bbies actual age is 8.5 wks and corrected age is 3 weeks today.

lyricist, dorayaki,
same same here......yep having attractive items other than toys help
happy.gif
For my boys their favourite items are brightly coloured bottles, my sun glass case, face towels, old milk bottles with pegs or other colourful items inside. The best of all is our big sun lamp that we bought from ikea....it will definitely help for the first few minutes almost everyday with both of them. But nothing lasts throughout the dressing up, i will surely have to flip them many times towards the end.....huh!

youyou,
welcome on board!

Nora,
congrats!

Ah da,
I was having BH, almost from week 24 if i remember correctly, it got really worst that i will hav to go to the delivery suit for making sure its not the real one. I scheduled my c-section exactly on the 37th week, if not may be i would have been carried for another week? not sure as the CTG never spot any contraction throughout my preggie days! so like dorayaki says, relax and enjoy your pregnancy it wil help a lot. resting and lying in a comfortable position helped me a lot.

mesh,
It depends on the idividual babies i think, for my babies, they were on 8 feeding until they were able to sleep 5 to six hours at stretch during the night, once they could sleep longer at night they only woke up once or twince at night for milk. However, it was still 3 hourly during the day until I started solid food. Hope this helps!

Ah Da, monitor ur contraction. When's it gets regular, start timing. I dont knw when's the right time to go hosp but I did when I was having it at every 15 minutes (btw, like best twins, I started having braxton hicks in my 24-25 wks and was given medicinie). Then, I was only in 32 wks. Was given medicine to stop contraction and jab to mature bbs' lungs incase they cant wait. 2 days stay in hosp and after that discharged to rest at home. I had c-sec on 37w5d. So not to worry. Just monitor ya. Sorry, cant remember all the names of the medication, my boys are turning one yr old next month. Jia you.

Dorayaki, how have u and ur twins been? me old leow memory no gd. I knw ur edd was supposed to be in oct 06 rite? When did u deliver them? I supposed they have turned one or going to turn one rite?
