(2006/12) December 2006 MTBs

dey, shihui,
mary rauff said that most first time mummies will need to cut, cos that area just don't stretch enough. she said the area heals easily, n i should be free from pain after 2 wks. i'm also hoping my bb's head is not big. at 28wks, she was still at 50th percentile.

dun tear ah, it's terrible. my mum tore when she had me cos my head was huge (near 100th percentile). she said what happens when there is a tear is that the doc has problems stitching the tear together, so the sewn part is not smooth, there r bumps, so u can feel it when u walk n when u sit. she fainted the first time she went to the toilet.

i thot of doing perineal massage too, but cannot reach ah.

Jackie
Ooo goodie...must let each other now what we r wearing tat day so can introduce. I asked them abt promotion this Sat, they say dun hv leh
sad.gif

Read tat they also check for diseases and contamination b4 storage. No worries, I'm confident cordlife hv high standards cos they are actually part of a stem cell research organisation.

Shihui,
i oso wanna ask u ladies here if any of u going to do the perineal massage. sounds a bit scary to massage that area. will this massage will bring fwd the EDD?

Fizz,
U can order from moms in mind website... even though they state it is out of stock, they still have it.

The midwife at Mt E told us Chinese people perineum not very stretchable so will usually tear. Tat's why most Chinese mum's will hv to be given episiotomy when giving birth...unlike the ang mohs. Too bad
sad.gif

och,
pardon me for saying this, ask ur hb to do it for you lor. but the description of how to do it like err... abit gross leh, must use oil then put thumb in to stretch rite?

Starluster
Massaging tat area will not bring forward EDD. Massaging ur breast to stimulate colostrum production might, cos it will induce release of oxytocin hormones which cause contraction of womb. Was told not to do this massage until 36 wks pregnant.

For perineal massage, read tat u need to not only massage but progressively stretch tat area of skin urself in order for it to help. Sounds quite scary.

vanessa,
aiyo, ask my hubby ah.... dunno if he will be grossed out. the book i read said we can start with external massage first, b4 moving in to stretch. can use fingers first. when we move in to stretch, supposed to sting.

Vanessa
Ya gross hoh. The midwife also say when delivering hoh, the doctor will try to stretch the perineum b4 bb come out. Heard very painful one leh. When u deliver got or not hah. Heard already damn scared.

Fizz,
CTG machine detect contraction and BB heartbeat at the same time
happy.gif

Lil,
Personally prefer cordlife but their 1st time storage fee is putting me off as compare to Stemcord. My hubby also prefer cordlife....

i think only normal lubricants safe to put in that area, eg ky jelly. try not to put in anything too strong, else it might upset the balance in our vaginal tract.

Lil,

Och,
That day when I did my pre-admission at Gleneagles, the receptionist passed me a AIA insurance thingy..got free 6 months insurance for baby too..

Oh ya..we were taught during antenatal class to put some cream and stretch the perineal before giving birth..but i find it quite gross also..scully overstretch it how..

dey,
oh so aia offers the same thing in all hospitals. probably they r banking on parents just continuing coverage after the 6mth period.

cannot possibly overstretch the perineal bah. bb head is so much bigger than our fingers wor.

och,
Only know stemcord is local company and cordlife is Australian listed biotech and immunotherapy Comp. They are the only private cord blood storage company in SG.

Dey
u sooo funny...if overstretch already then bb just plop out juz like tat loh
happy.gif

Jackie
I read in other threads tat Stemcord actually work out to be more expensive in the long run unless u get the promotional package cos they sell on storing the cord blood in 4 separate vials n hence can use 4 times. But in actual fact store in 4 separate vials also no use cos the amount collected is usually only enough for a single withdrawal.

Lil,
Cordlife n stemcord both store in 4 seperate vials.....I did call and check that stemcord 1st time charges are $500+ and cordlife charge is $1400...Wonder how the huge cost difference come abt
uhoh.gif

Vanessa,
Yr description is making me worry ah....Wonder what will happen during the actual delivery....

Jackie...r u sure only $500+...other mothers were saying tat Stemcord all in also thousand over. U better check what r the +'s. Didn't know tat cordlife also store in 4 separate vials...cos was initially thinking of going with Stemcord becos of tat, until read that only enough for 1 withdrawal.

LiL,

Jackie is right. I paid only $450 (not inclusive of GST) for Stemcord. They had a promotion about 4-5 months ago and I signed up immediately for that. Else.... now may have to pay more
sad.gif

Lil,
That what the lady told me verbally abt the cost. Infact, if really need to use the cordblood (touch wood) think the quantum only sufficient for 1 time usage.

BTW, understand that cordlife tie up with some insurance company on medical fee in event of any withdrawl of the cordblood. Think it NTUC if i dont remember wrongly.

LiL, Jackie,
ohh.. dunnoe tt cordlife n stemcord do testing liao.. heee~ think the info i read in the other thread outdated liao.. :p

och, dey, vanessa,
the "what to expecting when u r expectin" oso suggested hubby to help in the perineal massage leh.. :p but hor, it feels so weird.. feels like "x-rated" stuff to me... paiseh..
blush.gif
dey, wow, ur antenatal class actually taught u how to do the perineal massage? muz do how frequently? n how long? when can we start?

Jackie
Just spoke to Stemcord...the initial enrolment fee inclusive of 1st yr storage fee is $1150 ($1207.5 incl GST)...slightly cheaper than Cordlife. Subsequent yrs storage fee is $250 same as Cordlife. I asked them how they r different from Cordlife...say that they store in 4 separate vials while Cordlife store in a single bag. By having to separate the amount collected into 4 separate tubes I tot would increase the risk of contamination. Whereas Cordlife method, the blood is collected straight into a blood bag...minimal exposure to environment hence less risk of contamination. Hope this helps in ur decision making. Think I still prefer COrdlife but will c after the talk on Sat.

I thot perineal massage use olive oil? yah.. i think if want to massage must ask hubby to help coz really hard to reach there.. but guys usually more zhu lu.. tat area like v delicate and sensitive.

lil, can only start d massage at wk 36? tot wk 34 can start liao?

och, sorry can u pls explain why no iron pill means gynae is pro natural? my gynae oso never give but i tot its bcoz i cant take too much iron.

my colleagues says the labor pain is so great that it mask off the cutting pain. so i guess the streching of perineal pain would be mask off as well?

Preineal Massage
I've read abt it too...but sounds a bit gross leh...think most hb are squimish abt it too. =P also no sure how far in we must stick out fingers...3cm?? how far is it? whole thumb?

Starluster
U refering to breast massage? Can start earlier but avoid nipples. Apparently if touch nipples this mimicks baby suckling n may cause release of oxytocin which may then cause premature labour loh. That's what the lactation consultant said. To be safe she advice mothers to start massaging only at 36 wks cos she scared if anything happens we blame her mah. I have already started massaging occasionally (quite lazy
happy.gif
)...juz avoid touching nipples only.

starluster,
think u misunderstand my posts. for perineal massage, as long as it's lubricants that can be put in the vagina can liao. i mentioned ky jelly cos it's a common lubricant lah. if u want olive or vegetable oil, guess also can, but i'm no expert in this. i only read fr books. :p n no iron pill doesn't mean gynae is pro natural. just that shihui n i share the same gynae, n we both think the gynae quite pro natural. she doesn't like to give supplements, keep telling us to eat the right foods, dun like patients to go for c-sections, etc etc. many gynaes dun insist on iron cos it causes constipation, but so far, my gynae hasn't even mention iron pills or multivitamins.

Shihui,
The instructor just mentioned briefly lar..she did mention about stretching it with our fingers using some cream ( I cannot remember what cream she recommended) when it is nearing our EDD..but she also mentioned not to overdo it as it may cause infection lor...

Connie
Cooking olive oil...really? Won't cause infection meh?

Bobianah
I was also wondering exactly how to stretch leh. Connie, did they teach u at antenatal class?

conniemummy,
yah! i think i heard olive oil from mrs wong too. in fact, ur sentence really remind me of mrs wong! she likes to use the word "hor" which always tickle my hubby.. he will repeat her sentences to me... for eg "free doesnt mean its not good horrrrr"
happy.gif
she was referring to the green papaya soup that tmc serve.

lil,
me referring to the perineal massage... as for breast massage.. me oso doing it but only when it hurts... sometimes got like aching feelin on the breasts.

Shihui,
Yes, both stemcord and cordlife do testing before storage. They have to follow some guideline as SCBB
happy.gif

Lil,
How come so much different ah??? I spoke to Stemcord recently and was told the cost is $500+ depending on which hospital n gyane (Gynae is actually the one who will withdraw the cordblood than the respective company will pick up the samples)

I am quite sure cordlife store the blood in 4 different vial as well. Read that part in their website.

Like u hor, will decide after sat talk. But hubby wont be able to join me. Have to make the decision myself.

bobianah,
aiyo, the picture showed 2 thumbs. the thot of 1 finger is scary enough, but 2 thumbs!!

lil,
if want to use cooking olive oil, best to buy a new bottle. dun use olive oil that is already opened in the kitchen.

Conniemummy,
Ya..i think it is olive oil which Mrs Wong mentioned during the antenatal class...but i dun think i wld do it lor.. worried of infection..

och,
i c i c... was wondering how no iron pill means gynae is pro natural.. hehe.. during my first visit to my gynae i ask him directly n he say he is pro natural.. but i dunno lei. i have no other reference. so far we never discuss birth option etc yet.

omigosh... the picture is totally scary!

hallo ladies.....
guess most of u getting all those false alarm rite..me too leh...cramps few times a day...and my gynae told me will deliver 2 weeks earlier than due date..which is 3 weeks later lor..alamak..makes me mre kan cheong..
now my checkup become like every weekly...nearer n nearer liao...

Jackie,
can i check hw much is the braun themormeter u bgt fr robinson??
