if the letter not out, can count me in oso. i seldom have a chance to go out w sophia alone using public transport, but tried that on monday. aiyo! really buay tahan w some ppl. not only about giving up seats but how they can just rush to the door when the train approaching. they were happily sitting on the benches before that. totally disregard whoever that was standing and queueing at the side the whole time. i was so annoyed, that when the train stopped and i saw there's no one coming out from that door, i side step and stand right in front of them, seconds before the door open. they mumbled mumbled something in their china mandarin... which i dont understand and don't give a *beep*.

but its nice to know that there are still ppl who is willing to give up the seat and they are those slightly older aunties.

Yup, delivered sarah on wed, one wk ahead of edd. It was super fast!!! Strangely, on Tues I had a feeling it was "anytime" and faster pass on watever immediate work i had to my staff to settle the next day.

So, here's the story..
Tues (05 Aug), i went see gynae in the evening, had a bit of show so he check but no dilation, and me, oso say no other signs. So, go home monitor la...

Then that nite, after midnite, i started feeling mild contractions. But, since i induce hannah, i dunno wat is the "normal" onset of labour symptoms, like how "pain" is real contractions?? Kekeke! So silly hor?

Anyway, it was like 30mins apart, so i go back to sleep.

Then it became 20mins apart and more painful and i decided to take pen and paper to write down. Soon, became 10mins or so apart and i was still thinking...hmmm...shd i go hosp now?

it was like 4am and contractions abt 5-10mins apart and quite pain liao, then i woke my hb and told him time to go...cannot liao

I wash face, change, we got there around 5am, i quickly asked for epidural! By then was already 4cm dilated.

think around 8am waterbag burst and i saw it go POW! so funny! My doc was on the way, but he had c-sect to attend to at another hosp so had to wait and at that time, seemed like eternity to me! then the nurses/midwives asked me dun push ah!!! I dun even dare move a muscle! Apparently bb poo poo inside, so gotta wait for doc come clean up. Wah, I never saw my doc so rushed before (compared to hannah ). Quickly wear gown, boots, wash hand, check instruments, tell me PUSH! bb head came out, he quickly use suction clean, then Push again and Sarah popped out! sooo fast compared to Hannah!

I was so thankful it was so easy and fast. I only had a small tear which doc stitched up. It didnt hurt at all after...i think it was easier this time...even tho Hannah's delivery was also relatively easy.

Anyway, Sarah weighs 3.42kg, 50cm long.

thanks for compliments & congrats on Sarah.

Hannah's fever took a while to go away so we admitted her to KKH on Wed nite. She was discharged Friday, and after all the tests, it turned out she had Roseola (fake measles)!! I guess wat made it extra stressful for us (other then worrying abt her yo-yo fever), was the timing of it all as Sarah was barely a week old. Now, Hannah is being quarantined at my MIL's cos it is more contagious to those under 3yrs old. Hannah loves to sayang and watch her mei mei, so it's not possible to keep them apart under the same roof. Sigh... I haven't seen her since Thursday! My hb is shuttling back and forth between our homes and he has to shower and change clothes before leaving my MIL's to come home. Can't wait for her rashes to clear (in a couple days?) so everything can be back to normal.

Yes, I agree with you that the support to look after our kids is very important. Without good support, it is almost impossible. I think the govt just talks about procreation without caring much about the repercussions, esp for parents...and ESP for mothers! I can still remember my boss not speaking to me for 3 days when I announced my 2nd pregnancy. Imagine if I am pregnant for the 3rd time....!

Bobianah, take care. Once the roseola rashes are out, they will last for 2-3 days, and Hannah will look super pink then! But once the rashes are out, it signifies the end of roseola. Can heave a sigh of relief soon.

Was so super busy with work... beginning to think if this job is suitable for a Mummy like me with no support and a hubby who is always travelling!! So tired!

Bingo! There is no way I can consider having a 2nd one now unless I want to be a SAHM (but its not a job that suits me). I was very busy for the last 3 weeks and hubby was out for 2 of these 3 weeks... everyday I could only work after I put JT to bed, prepare her dinner for the next day... so everyday sleep at 12+ to 1am, then wake up at 5+am to prepare her dinner then go to work....was so tired I wanted to collapse... and it was definitely affecting my work... there is no way I can have a 2nd one.... The only way that I can consider having a 2nd one is to have a intellectual part-time work.... and having a full CC subsidy even for PT employees so that the mummy can at least have some breathing space. But that's just my wishful thinking lah... the 2nd point MAYBE possible, but the intellectual PT job will not happen for many years to come...

Since we're at the topic of increasing birth rate, just thought I'll share a conversation with a colleague from Hong Kong who came over for a meeting last week. She read in our local papers all the talk about increasing birth rate, and we discussed the challenges of having babies. She is about to get married but her sister has a toddler who stays with them because her mum is taking care of him. We find many similarities between the HK and SG environment. Stressful and long working hours... no work-life balance, high cost of living, expensive property. Slave-driver employers... she was saying the birth rate in HK is only 0.9!!! She also said tat intellectual PT work is non-existent in HK, just like in SG... haiz... She also said something that I feel is very true... those western company open branches in Asia to take advantage of "low cost", and squeeze us dry... while they have work life balance, we are being squeezed over here in Asia. Like our company, there is a saying that the work of 8 ppl in the HQ in US translates to 1 person over here in Asia.... everytime we want to fight for headcount, its always NO Headcount!!! So much for work-life balance!

Hannah will be fine. Tim also had tat fake measles thingy in late July. It lasted for 4 days or so and the fever was scary. it shot to over 40!

Oh, congrats! Your kids can be in Pei Hwa! Verrrry good school! I nearly wanted to opt for Pei Hwa as during phase 2C, the vacancies for MGS were much fewer compared to Pei Hwa. But eventually, we decided to forge on with MGS...and yes, Nicole got into MGS, yippee! Which phase did you ballot in? I can understand how stressful it was. The weeks leading up to registration for phase 2C were nightmarish for me. Everyday in cold sweat. Thank goodness we got past that stage now - high 5!!!

I enrol Selinna to Edufarm Playgrp near my MIL hse. term will starts 8 Sept lor. Looking forward to her gg to playgrp also. yday bring her there.. she needs awhile to monitor the situation & seeing toys everywhere on the floor and table she starts to get active & touched them liao. slowly loved the session. Yday oni went to pay fees not go for any session oni. When i finished talking to the teacher, i asked her to leave. she didn;t want to. Ask me to sit dwn at the chair & she continued playing. the teacher is kind enuf to say let her play awhile lor. I can forsee 1st day of class she will not be crying & wanting mommy companion one. haha.

I agree with you. Actually having 1 more month of ML is not going to affect my decision to have a 2nd kid or not, cos my biggest problem is who is going to take care of my bb when I go back to work with the crazy hours that we have to put in at work. This is just going to make bosses think twice about employing or promoting females of child bearing age. Imagine take 4 months ML, 6 days childcare leave, 1 week infant leave, and if preggie some MC here and there... easily 5mth in a year gone liao.... if the woman is a key decision holder, who can cover her work???
I think the point is, there are a lot of women like myself who actually dun mind a slower pace job, lower pay, etc.... but the job market is such that its either I quit to be a SAHM, or I throw myself back into the corporate rat race.... sigh...
But I am waiting for the announcement for bigger child care subsidies!!!

Yeah...4 mths ML sounds very temptin in the s/run...but it is def gonna make employers tink twice abt employin women of child bearin age...except for stat board...my previous co actually employed a woman when she was 6 mths preg...n shortened her confirmation period to 3 mths...so tat she cld take ML...but she left 6 mths after she gave birth...

Take me for an eg...I m a so called SAHM now...if I were to apply for a job now...the co wil tink...I hv oni 1 child at 2 yo now...I m stil at child bearin age...they wil deduce tat I wil wanna try for no 2 soon...given the age gap of my 1st child n my age...so who dares to employ me now...unless I really hv my no 2...n produce a cert of ligation...as wat Star mentioned...

for me, I think they forgot to target 3 pts - hospital policy (cos delivery of sec child is much more ex than first child. that's what KKH customer service told me). secondly, they did not implement how company cope with staff who take 4mth leave and shd introdue more pro-family oriented issue.thirdly, they shd adjust the medicial charges. cos medicial bills are quite high.keep on increasing. my frenz jokes why they did not give free hospital stay as well.

dunno when they implement the new bb bonus cos my frenz is gg to due in early sept liao.dunno she can enjoy the goodies or not.

re: food in ccc. some even have claypot rice. almak, so oily...

hmmmm....dun think there's any difference for delivery of #1 and #2. for hospital policy, they allowed the use of medisave already, so i guess they will not reduce the hospital bill anymore. if i remember correctly, for those who opt for class C wards, the whole bill is taken cared by their medisave, no cash component is necessary.

my guess is that the new bb bonus will be with effect from sept onwards.

guess i can be a temp if no company wants to employ me permanantly cos need to cover new mummies for 4 months now! haha!

dunno leh, the kKh customer service told me first and sec child delivery charges different. did not dig out more infor cos not interested that pt of time.

for me, I opt for B2+ class (5 bedder with own toilet and aircon), I also did not pay a single cash. all claim by medisave bills (max $450). KKH even refund me a cheque of $500 too for all antental visit. but if can, given more cash intensive better mah, this scheme does not benefit sahm leh...think they shd also look into sahm too.

but last time, the new policy of Maternity leave started from 1 oct 2004 only. hope this time round, started earlier. my another friend due end of this mth wor....siao dun think she can enjoy leh.

Actually JT's CC also have claypot rice, chicken rice.... but I've seen the food that they serve, not oily one.. The auntie cook the chicken rice in chicken stock only. Also depends lah. They also have fish cake and sausages occasionally, but most of the time they have chicken and fish. So I think you have to visit them during their meal times then see what they serve. The other problem I have is that most CC that I visit only give frozen pacific dory, that's why must deep fry. JT's cc gives fresh batang fish like teochew fish porridge style, and they totally dun have fried food in the menu which I like. But really very ex lor... Just 1 kid I can afford, if have #2 no way I can put both kids in this type of CC lor... dun work better.

Yah lor... actually very difficult to find temp, esp for exec positions. I think western countries they can have long ML because their people are not overstretched, so they can easily distribute 1 person's work to the rest. But for Singaporeans, everyone is already working at 120% capacity, going home at 8-9pm everyday, if still have to cover for someone who goes on ML for 4 mth, you really cannot blame the colleagues and bosses for being unhappy. I think the govt should get to the root of the problem. Reduce the cost of doing business so that everyone won't be so stressed up. Then the babies will automatically come.

There wont b incentives for SAHM wan lah...the govt is tryin very hard to get women bac to the workforce...as the cty is oredi facin insufficient workers to increase pdtivity...retiremt age is oso increasin...furthermore...the govt is actually encouragin more educated women to bear children...generally...a higher proportion of SAHM r not women holdin executive positions...(exclusion clause: I m not sayin all the SAHM here r lower inc earners...I m a SAHM)...as the opp cost for executive lvl women is too high...given the above reasons...y shld incentives b intro to SAHM...haizzz...I dun expect tat lah...but it is a nice-to-hv tinky...hee...for me lor...

no difference lar for #1 or #2 child birth. U might have interpret wrongly when the nurse tell u bah. For me i see snr consultant (same gynae as my #1) oni the consult fees different nia lor. both i also saw him at TPS lor. then #1 i downgrade to B2+ mah then see doc in Clinic B lor. then #2 see him all the way lor. cos since my hb still have the CSC card for me to use (pay oni 40% of my bill each time) so i see him in tps till delivery lor.
I am glad i took him for labour lor.. he very pro &amp; stitches are done good and he very confident. of cos all are high costs lar. I paid $870 for his delivery charges. I din take epi anything.. then i still managed to get back few hundred dollars also lor.

Got 1 day for registration meh? I called them they say go down anyday to make pymt be4 term starts. so i took leave to go dwn yday lor. somemore must be btwn 9.30 - 1130am/ after that the teacher will go home liao. such easy job if i dun want to earn hi salary i will also go work part time like this. haha
