(2006/09) SEPTEMBER 2006 MTB

ive oso read tt for someone who's underweight pre-pregnancy will gain a certain range of weight. and someone who's normal pre-pregnancy will gain a certain range. and someone who's overweight pre-pregnancy will gain certain range and it's the least.

coz i was overweight pre-pregnancy, so i only take note of my range which is abt 6kg to 10kg i think. so i target to not exceed this range, hopefully just 6kg :p

here's one chart:
http://www.babycenter.com/general/fetaldevelopment/pregnancy/1290794.html

As for leg cramps, i find stretching ur calf muscles very effective, i.e. point ur toes towards urself when ur legs r outstretched. So far, whenever i feel a cramp coming, i do the stretch and actually prevented it!

I'm another eg. of sudden weight gain... so far, itz been like 1kg per week for the past 4 wks! Scary... Total gain is approx. 7kg+ and i'm only in my 25th wk.

Hi chng's wife,
I found this online - it's an online programme for you to key in your baby's weight everytime you have a check up. It will track your baby's weight for you and let you know whether or not it's fine. They also have one for us to track our weight gain.

http://www.verybestbaby.com/tools/trackers/babygrowth.asp?section=tl

This other website is American, so all the measurements are in pounds. (so just divide by 2.2)

Hope this helps!

hi elaine, how does heartburn feels like? read abt it from books but just cant figure out how does it feels, how to determine it's heartburn.

hi edksd,
when not eating rite e feeling is like somethg burning in e stomach causing hot air to gush through to e chest then all e way to e throat area... when water or food passed down my throat to my stomach i can feel a sharp pain near e chest area just like pouring water after u have a cut on e skin.... terrrible feeling... hai..

Bijou, I think you're fine
happy.gif
Your weight gain is actually an average of 1kg per month and that's okay.
happy.gif
Here's what I've read:

1st Trimester - 0.5 to 1 kg per month (so that's a total of 3kg weight gain max)
2nd & 3rd Trimester - 1 to 2 kg per month (so that's a total of 12kg weight gain max)

If you were a healthy weight pre-pregnancy, we should expect to gain between 10-15kg by the time we deliver.

Of course, putting on too much weight is not good, but too little is not good either. My friend was gaining too little too slowly. In her last 2 months, the doctor ordered bed rest and no exercise so she could put on weight for the baby.

Sometimes I feel guilty about gaining weight, but I have to tell myself... it's for the baby! Plus, I read in the papers a few weeks ago that depriving your baby of food (skipping meals, eating less etc) leads to a higher chance of the child becoming obese later on in life! (because he/she is starving in the womb, he/she develops a food 'craving' and tends to overeat as a child!)

hmmm...

when i was pregnant last yr, i had a miscarriage at early stage at wk6 or 7. though it's early stage, didnt see the fetus forming nor heard the heartbeat, and didnt hv to go thru d/c after miscarriaged, but still it was devastating to me and hubby coz afterall tt was our first time.

when i got pregnant again this yr, we are both v happy. and when i was going thru tt terrible MS period in the 1st trimester, i told myself as long as bb is safe this time im willing to go thru anything, give me anything i'll take it.

luckily life wasnt too bad to me. MS stop after 1st trimester. but im having gestational diabetes, so hv to control diet. well, take it in my stride.

i guess we all got to learn to appreciate and bear w it only when we've lose it before.

same for subsequent pregnancies, i'm a PCOS patient, not easy to conceive, so if im able to hv many subsequent pregnancies, im still willing to go thru anything. no fear at all.

Oh dear Elaine, that must be terrible! I hope things will get better soon. It usually does towards the end right? For me, it's leg cramps. :p So annoying! (and painful!)

Have you thought of prenatal yoga? I've read so much about it. Supposed to help relax and calm you. It's also supposed to help with your breathing and all. I'm still thinking if I should try it out... hmmm...

hi edksd,
sorry to learn abt ur past experience. life is like tat we will nv know how to appreciate unless we have gone through difficult times.

hi joon,
ya heartburn usually happens at 3rd trimester but mine was early. anyway i experience bad leg cramp twice during e weekend become i sudden straight my left leg while sleeping so now i will always bend my legs while sleeping n straighten slowly n not too sudden.
i never thought of going for yoga cos after work i already feel very tired just wanna rest at home n not going out... heehee

yeah, so let's enjoy our pregnancy. whether happy or not, we still hv to go thru it, so why not go thru it happily.

me too. interested in yoga and prenatal massage, but whenever free, i just want to rest at home. i feel tt being at home is the best rest i can get from anything else.

Hi Gals,

I am also a Sept MTB....been following this thread for quite a while but paiseh to do any posting :p

I must said I gained a lot of info from this thread. Well done gals and thks for sharing so openly
happy.gif

hi yuna

Welcome to our thread. Feel free to drop yur opinion and express your feelings. That why we are here for.

Hi Joon

Thanks. I think you are right. Anyway what we do now is all for the best of our baby inside us. We can always lose weight later.

edksd,
ditto mate! i will go through another hell just to have another baby again. losses suck! currently my only "complain" was that i can't sleep well but it's actually nature's way of making sure we're always alert when baby's awake at night for feeds. so now i count is a blessing that i'm responding well to nature's need. i feel so contented now!

yuna,
welcome, ask anything if you want. we share everything!

yuna,
welcome, welcome! We're all here to share & learn fr one another, so pls dun feel paiseh abt posting anything!

When's your EDD?

Welcome Yuna! I understand how you feel
happy.gif
I was initially a bit scared coz everyone seems to know everyone else here, but I found that everyone here is very friendly and helpful! Sometimes I disappear from the forum for weeks because of work, but I've learned SO MUCH, much more than from books.

Hi bijou! Ya, after our babies arrive, we'll be talking about our weight loss instead of weight gain!

Hi edksd, so sorry to hear about your experience. It's never easy to have to deal with something like that. I'm glad your pregnancy is good so far
happy.gif

Hi elaine, maybe mine is not heartburn then... gastric maybe. I'm still toying with the yoga idea. Babies N Cream (@ Great World City) conducts yoga classes, and if you have the Everyday Card, there's a coupon you can use to get 50% off a 4-lesson package.

Wow....thks for the warm welcome.

My EDD is 13 Sep. I have already gained abt 10 kgs at wk 24, think i have put on another 2 kgs so far. Not sure if my weight gain too excess a not :p

about prenatal yoga,
i have a thought. prenatal yoga, while it's good for your pelvis, also involves squatting and for MTBs with placenta previa or low lying placenta, better avoid squatting. when i asked my gynae about prenatal yoga, she said it's up to you to try. she didn't say yes or no b'cos obviously it works for some and does not work for some.

just do housework lor.. light exercise mah.. but remember, bend from your knees, not bend over the whole body, it will give you backache!

heheh, lately quite hard to bend down to pick up things. Worse is I'm more clumsy, so often drop or knock things off the table. Sitting and walking also seems more 'chor-loh', i.e. cannot close legs fully... Really feel like a pregnant woman now! hahaha!
happy.gif

Anybody kena stretchmarks already?

I have tons of ugly lines liow... just confirmed with my gynea and they are stretchmarks
sad.gif

Sob Sob...

Hi Elaine
Hope things will get better for you soon! I was like you initially, why all bad symptons happen to me.... hmm... but as my pregnancy progress and I became more positive, things aren't that bad after all.... so be happy and all bad things will go away soon!

Welcome Yuna...

Yuna,
Welcome to our thread. Never late.. always welcome! hee!

To all, just enjoy your pregnancy... becos we have someone to look forward to in Sept. This is definitely the biggest achievement in our life!

Emoments,
I am sure to have stretchmarks too. Since last week, I have been feeling alot of activities from my baby. Kicks, punches and my stomach is feeling damn tight!! I use moisturizing oil from Avent.. apply generously after bathe.. hopefully, stretchmarks will be minimised.

emoments,
Yeah stretchmarks galore. But those stretchmarks that I have were from my pubescent years when I suddenly gain weight from all the eating when I got my first job. Oh the food glory haha. So all my stretchmarks are at my butt. I haven't gotten any stretchmarks from this pregnancy though probably b'cos i have been applying Palmer cocoa butter cream all over my tummy and butt and thighs. So far so good.

I kena stretchmarks immediately after my detailed scan (initially I thought they were rashes that I got while doing the detailed scan). But I checked with my gynea on the next checkup and confirmed they are stretchmarks.... hmm...

Somemore I am finishing my 2nd bottle of stretchmarks lotion liow... and they are still appearing more & more
sad.gif

Luckily they are below my tummy, which can be hidden... but funny thing is, my tummy is still quite small (not many pp can tell I'm pregnant) thou I have put on abt 12kg
sad.gif
Think I put on the most weight here
sad.gif
and have been trying to control now. People only asked how come I suddenly put on so much weight but didn't even suspect I'm pregnant... esp at 5th mths now...

Yup, Melissa is right, we should bend down at our knees, not at our waists. The reason for this is, bending forwards and backwards at the waist might cause the abdominal muscles to split in the middle (!!) so after birth, your waist expands and it's difficult to make it narrow again. I was told this by my Pilates trainer, and she just delivered 3 mths ago, so I believe her!

Puppylove, I cannot bend down too! Now I cannot buckle my mary jane shoes without straining. I think must get hb to buckle my shoes soon. I was at Tangs the other day and my belly knocked into some glasses on display. I didn't even know my belly was so big. Heng, nothing fell down!

Emoments, I don't have stretchmarks yet, and I hope it stays that way, but my friend only started getting stretchmarks in the last month, so no one is safe! But like littlepony, my belly feels REALLY tight and stretched now. I've been applying Mothercare's stretchmark cream, and so far so good. But I've read that creams also can't prevent stretch marks. It's genetic.

hi ladies

not too sure if I have stretch marks leh ...better ask my gynae next time ..

btw I do have heartburn twice so far .... also because I dont take small regular meals.. just take my usual 3 meals...

ya what food to consume to make bb bigger ah since durians is out ? BUT ... durians are my favourite !!!

I have also have cramps a few times though I take milk and calcium pills daily .... so far cramps on my right feet can be easily recover by bending my feet towards me but somehow I have no strength to do it for my left feet, always !! need to wake hubby up leh .. why ah ?

recently realised my feet and hands are a little bit swollen .. cant fit into my old shoes .. a galfriend told me today that her feet size has increase by 1 size after she gave birth > 1 year ago and she cant fit into ALL her old shoes .... oh no ... dun tell me I need to buy new shoes again ???

btw does u ladies' gynae track ur weight gain closely ? Mine does and he wants me to keep it <= 2kg monthly leh ... so stress hahahaha

Hi ilovebabies,

I had durians yesterday AND today! Are we not supposed to eat them? But they're delicious!
happy.gif

My gynae doesn't really monitor my weight that closely. I do it myself by weighing myself every morning. The last time I visited her, I gained 3kg that month and she told me to slow down, haha. She said the same thing as your gynae : 2kg per month, about 1/2 kg per week.

Geez, I don't know why we get leg cramps. Been surfing, but no one really knows why. Potassium deficient? Too much salt? Hormones? So many reasons given online!

Morning MTBs!!

Hi Yuna, welcome...

Heheh...talking about weight gain...i have putting on like 3kg every month since my 16 wk. I am starting my 25wk and i have already gained a total of 14kg already
sad.gif
But i try not to be bothered so much, so long the gynae did not say anything. The best part is that i have small apetite and i don't really snack in between meals...but i am still putting on weight like nobody's business. I really hope it's just water retention as i have very bad water retention even b4 preg.

ilovebabies, my gynae's nurse also told me the norm is about 2kg per month starting from week 16, but i am beyond that...dunno how to control. very stressed! :p

by right - about 2 months gain in weight, 1 cm gain in our stomach circumference per month.

by 'left' - seems that none of us are following it! haaa!! regardless of how little we try to eat... oh gosh! we have lots of weight to lose after that!

How i feel - if gynae didn't say anything about our weight means we are fine! So don't have to worry so much!!

Leg cramps - try wearing socks at night.. maybe becos the air con or the fan is blowing directly at our feet..just one possiblity of leg cramp as well!

helo ladies, i also caught the flu bug leh. but i dunno where i caught it from.
sad.gif
one day after the motherhood fair, had sore throat. faster drink honey water and gurgle salt water, tot i controlled it for 2 days, but 3rd day gana cold and flu liaoz. past 2 days mc. very sian leh, wanna recover soon but dun dare to take the cough mixture even though had gynae's consent to take. only took the flu med and cough mixture once.

oh about the britax car seat, yah its not only britax that has convertibles. those that can allow newborns to 4yr old is called convertibles. and yep maxi cosi dun have. but britax, graco, peg perego also have i think. i recently refunded by nania infant seat, coz when they delivered and we checked, found a dent at the locking system there, dun feel safe so refunded it coz considering whether to get a convertible instead. going down to robinsons to check out soon when i recover. we considering the Britax Royale. pic looks about the same as the one ilovebabies posted.

Motherhood fair that time i also got hooded bath towels from Kidzloft, very cute one.
happy.gif
has the print "Thank Heavens for little boys". and the price is so much cheaper than outside. also got 2 sets of cot sheets from lollipop, very good price.

oh talking about heartburn, though i dun have, but i have this funny indigestion feeling every time i first lie in bed nowadays. like the food all cramp at my upper stomach like that. though it cld be hours since i eat. so i gotta walk around a while, or sit up a bit, b4 it will go away.

joon and melissa, i bend a lot too leh! oh no, so cannot bend coz the abdominal muscles will stretch and split? aiyoh so scary! then i better be careful now...

i put on 7 kg so far, now 25 weeks. i think putting on too little leh. am i the only one feeling this way? hehehee....

Yuna, WELCOME! dun be shy, just ask and chit chat and yack like all of us are doing. sometimes we just vent our fustrations or complain or share things. anything goes!
happy.gif

joon, about prenatal yoga, i also tot of going. but since someone said will involve a lot of squatting think not suitable for me? coz i at 20 weeks got low placenta. now i dunno leh. dun dare to. but i heard that babies n cream is good, so is Birth and Beyond or something, taught by samantha.

trying out my ticker here. not sure if it works coz not sure our forum is what base.

<img>

littlep pony, was it you who said wanna buy PIS? i read in another thread that cheong choon selling at $650. maybe u wanna check with them? I understand they also do home delivery
happy.gif

435271.png

daisybuttons, i almost same weeks as u, i put on double of ur weight...but i think it just depends on individual. I have friends who put on only 9kg throughout her pregnancy...and for both her pregnancies all like that...heheh...so i guess if ur gynae doesn't say anything, then should be fine.

Daisybuttons,
err. nope. I am not the one who wanna buy PIS leh.

sama sama. I am in 25 weeks and gained close to 8kg. I also feel if i am putting on too little or not. Buyt my gynae didn't comment on my weight so i guess its acceptable leh.

But i do intend to take some durians at the later stage to make bb abit plumper if i had to...

littlepony, taking durian will put on weight? durian is heaty leh...don eat too much.

How i wish i can be like u gals leh...just 7-8 kg...after the bb weight and the water, u haven't put on much weight on yourself.

helo bena and littlepony, yah lah true if gynae din say anything shld be alright. think for me my 1st tri gain not too much. but 20-24 weeks i gain 2.3kg i think. slightly more than shld within 4 weeks but when even out still like not enough hehehee. i am eating quite normally leh. just worried now sick eating more porridge, so hope baby got nutrients.

littlepony, oh its not you ah? hhmmm then who is the one who want PIS huh? isit puppylove? yah i think durians will help baby put on weight. but be careful too coz sometimes later pregnancy hor, the weight estimation not accurate one leh. i mean, baby's weight estimation. i have a friend baby wt estimated about 3.5-3.8kg i think. but when born baby weighs 4.2kg or more!

bena, dun need to envy lah hehhe each of us have our own concerns. as long as gynae din say u putting too much, shld be okie? u having a girl issit? think if having a princess body fats tends to have more? for me, its true that for a prince, my body weight gain all go to tummy. my arms, legs and hips like no difference. my friends commented that, if dun look at tummy, from upper body dun look preggie.

435328.png

Hi Bena,
Yap. Durians can be good for baby but yes, not too much....and i will only take if baby is not putting on as much weight as expected... then, i will use this as last resort. I told my husband have to pump baby up a little if needed...

i am quite similar to you leh, daisybuttons. I lose weight during my 1st trimester... and only at my 2nd, i started gaining ... but then again, i don't eat alot! i have been eating normal meals.. and if hungry, i will munch on biscuits. So same concerns.. i wonder if baby getting the nutrients he needed.

Today, my colleague was asking me how many months i am in? I said 6 and she said i look small leh!!!
