(2006/07) JULY 2006 MTB

Mummis, I received an email that has a list of cancer causing creams, among them,
Johnson & Johnson baby lotion
Johnson & Johnson baby lotion ultra care
Baby Magic lotion.

So scarry, tot baby's stuff shld be very safe de..

YB,
My mum told me tat fruits should be taken 1hr bef meal or 1 hr after meal. I think she read some where too.

Mummies, Ryan is 10 kg liao, he has been taking 2 porridge (1 full bowl) and 4 milk feeds but recently he on and off rejects his porridge, I tried other food like cereal, mee suan and ABC pasta, but he dun like any of them. He only take brown rice. Is brown rice heaty, I dun dare to give him too much. I only give that if he rejects his porridge. I really dun know what's wrong with him.
sad.gif

Melody - Ryan likes brown rice? How I wish E likes it too, brown rice is very good but liek u said abit heaty and hard to digest. Discard the J&J bah, the email says its the fragrance that is cancer causing.

Ya dun take fruits or fruit juice with ur meal, let digestive system rest abit then d nutrients from fruits can be better absorbed...

PM,
Har i using J&J lotion leh, is d email report true??

Hi hi lok...

Now brayden is with Elfa (near upper serangoon). How's little Joshua?? Still sucking his fingers?? hee... always remember his put his fingers in this mouth...
happy.gif
so cute!!
Today is brayden's birthday!! Planning to bring him to Sentosa and stay overnight at the Rasa hotel!! then he can go to beach... but rainy day! so still thinking to go or not!! sian!! I didnt throw any birthday party for him...
sad.gif

Oc, I'm not very sure butI can fwd to u to read.. u want?

I shld think its best to stop using it. Before this article I've also heard abt the J&J factory in India using some toxic stuff to make J&J pdts.

YB, i think most of us had heard abt this that fruits shld eat 1 hr after meal so that it will not disturb the digesting of the proper food we ate, and to take fruits 1 hr b4 we eat normal meal is to prevent eating the normal meal too much...

bfast: I don't feed char bf too... as long as she drinks her full 6-7 oz milk, i'm happy... n whatever she wanna eat, i js feed (but not adult food lar), like last nite she was super hungry @ 6:30 -> feed 5-6oz milk, 8 -> 3oz, not enough, make another 3 oz, 9:30 -> half slice of bread...

eeyore - how's charlene? Yah, i same as u.... feed when i think he's hungry and 2ox by 2ox. Haha. But i do feed him adult food. that day he ate some ban mian..

PM,
So is Emerson taking other food besides porridge for his lunch and dinner? He seems to like adult food. So far Ryan seems to like brown rice, porridge and little bit of bread only and he is beginning to get tire of porridge.

CONGRATS LIVERPOOL & JULIE!!!!

Weight:

My Caitz is super underweight lor. The other day we went for 1st yr assessment, Caitz is only 7.9kg. Pd said she is only in the 10 percentile. I have been trying to get her to eat more but she still refused. Her appetite v much dependent on her mood. If she is feeling up to it, she will finish her lunch/dinner which is super little to me. Others eat one bowl, she eats a quarter of a bowl. so young learning how to diet... faintz

PM, she's ok but dun wan porridge so feeding on milk only... sometimes bread n biscuit but no egg allow so feeding have to be careful lor... js remember can't eat her own b'day cake too

eyore,
After 1yr old can take eggs liao. But must introduce slowly. See if got allergic reaction or not.

I haven't introduce egg to Kay..but I've already given her cakes, egg soup etc.

Eeyore n blessing, I already feeding my little elliot egg. I read after 1 yr can eat egg already. but if u have yet to introduce then start if yolk first. cos i think in sin, at 14th month, they hav to take MMR jab, which is made of egg so hav to slowly try n feed in case they are allergic.

YB congrats to kay pooing in the toilet! 1 less messy backside to clean liao!

PM, hahah i consider that as brunch. cos he dun take lunch as his next meal will be milk at abt 3-4pm.

missmoon, i c. i also add fruits or yogurt to his cereal. i can;t find time to squeeze in snacks for him. and as the interval will be very short for his next feed, i scare he cannot finish his milk/porridge. maybe i shldn't be so scare n shld try to give abit here n there.

OC, like wat i told missmoon i usually add yogurt or fruits to his cereal lor. that's why i skip snack for him. and also very hard to find time. cos by 2-3hrs later he'll wanna nap. sometimes i feed his cereal too late, he will be very cranky during feeding n i got to quickly feed him n put him to bed.

PD advised to feed 3 meals is becos i think here the americans do it this way. and also they try to make baby above 1yr drink fresh milk instead of formula/ breast milk. so i guess more nutrition is needed as fresh milk is unable to provide enuf for the babies.

Actually according to the americans' chart, elliot is abit overweight. but he is only abt 10kg+ (22.5pounds). but she told me not to worry cos the chart is for caucasians so might be abit diff for us.

ACtually another prob is.. if i feed him breakfast wif cereal, dinner wif porridge, then lunch feed wat ah? i read up on the internet, can feed soupy stuff.. like chicken noodle soup... + mummy lazy also :p trying to think of a easier way out to make his 3 meals. now he seems to be sian of cereal already, although i hav been adding diff stuff to the cereal hoping to make them taste diff. He is getting hard to please lor.

misaryeo
u very hardworking liao..me lagi lazy..cos bfast cereal..then his lunch n dinner the same dishes leh...hahaha..cos i cook porridge in slow cooker..so cook 2 meals...

yah, clarify, yes after 1 yr old can take eggs but charlene has yet turn 1 yr old and she's having chicken pox so have to watch out what she eat... that day my mil came over with cake (hb b'day) & ice-cream... she said, charlene can't take cake so she buy ice-cream for her... pengz...

fruitee, yah these 2 days forum like crazy... i keep having error message saying maintenance mode is turned on...

dsii i try to be hardworking nia lah..hahaha cos i thinking if he eat same thing like very sian... i just trying to see if there are any easier way out to cook his meals if i hav to feed 3 meals. :p

yeah i think forum down cus past 2 days i have been trying to log in to read the posts but cant. today i logged in n there is so many posts!!! haha is it that only some can access while others cant?

milk - i wanted to intro fresh milk to caitz but kenna stopped by my ils! they say thats not gd enough. they asked me to give fm to caitz but they dunno how difficult it is! i gave her once, she tried then spit it out. thereafter, she seems to know the bottle contains fm n refused to drink or even put near her mouth. she can even go hide the bottle! faintz... but the thing is she can differentiate her water bottle n milk bottle. she is willingly to drink water frm the similar bottle as her milk bottle ( i bought the same kind) sometimes i try until really wanna give up...

misaryeo..i always anted to change his menu...cos i think we eat the same thing whole day oso sianz...maybe even a week..but hor..i think think think..but no action leh...one word...LAZY!!! wahahaha

Zita,
sorry i just came back from site.
Hmm yes but i dun know if u like it.

Julie, Liverpool, congrats!!!
Gerrian is a very unique nice. Any meaning?

Misaryeo,
I tried tomato based pasta for Kay's lunch today. She seemed to like it although she can't finish. Mayb she need some more time to get used to the tomato taste.

Just now, me & PM went to Popular & bought a recipe book for children. I read some & they seem very easy to cook.

I try to cook then share wif u?

my boy's milk capacity is very low (170ml max), that's why i have to feed him frequently. Thankfully, he likes to take solids (he can take it 1.5 hrs after his milk). Started introducing whole egg and adult food to him. So far ok. I give fruits together with his meals. Otherwise have to feed him every hour!! But hor after exposure to outside food, he's starting to reject my rather bland porridge.....

yup, bb's are very smart. Sometimes I pour his FM into the pigeon bottle and let him drink with straw. Refuse to barge. Then i switch it to plain water and he cannot stop drinking.

Fresh milk --- out for him. He's lactose-intolerant, so will lao sai. Rejected pediasure, maybe it's too sweet. So he will continue with Isomil.

den2, of cos, he's still sucking his 2 fingers. U remember Dr Oh? I asked her whether I should be concerned and she says let it be. Because she used to suck her thumb too with no side effects!

I also bought a book "Feed Your Child Right" recently from Kinokuniya --- the recipes looked simple. It's written by nutritionists and are meant for Asian Parents.

ylc,
once, josh was constipated, i gave him fresh milk for a few days.. not only did he manage to poo poo, he alot put on weight... try fresh milk.. i use meiji or magnolia.. i hv not tried on jedd cos i still hv 4 cans of his infant milk to finish.. :s

Julie & Liverpool,

Congrats! Hopefully I can also join the club soon. Planning to have the second one next year.. I told the hubs to aim EDD for 8 Aug lor. LOL.

YB,

Wanted to let you know that the cake from Imina's great and I'm happy with it. Not too sweet and she's very accomodating. Thanks for your lead!

Mummies,

I was just thinking about asking you all for your babies' menu and food/milk intake these days and voila, this is already the discussion topic of the day. Think we all have the same questions/doubts during this stage of our babies' development.

My girl Caitlyn weighed 8.3 kg and measured 76cm 2 weeks ago when we brought her for her pneumococcal and flu jab. Slightly underweight but slightly taller than average for her age group. PD says ok, but encouraged me to feed her more milk.

As it is, her menu is as such:

6/7am - Latch on
9am - 180ml FM + some bread
12pm - Lunch (Si Shen brown rice powder + fish + veggie mashed OR cereal + fruit) + drink of water
3pm - 180ml FM + a biscuit + drink of water
6.30pm - Dinner ( Brown rice powder + Heinze infant bottled stuff - I try different flavours) + drink of water
8.30pm - Latch on
9.00pm - 180ml FM before Zzzz

I have been trying to increase FM intake to 200ml but was not successful. Decided to stick to 180ml again. Good thing is that she can finish a whole bowl of the brown rice thingy for both meals. She even likes it plain. Don't know if what I'm doing is right but I guess I won't rock the boat while the water's calm.

Reading the posts above, I was just wondering whether fresh milk is better than FM for our kiddies? I am currently easing Caitlyn into Gain IQ, but am also considering substitutes, e.g. packet milk for times when the family goes out. Any mummies thinking of trying or already trying any form of packet milk?

Re. potty training, I just requested from a relative a Potty training book as Caitlyn's bday present. Have started reading the book to her and will be doing so for the next 6 mths to transit her to potty proper. Hopefully she would be able to understand first with " in-theory training", and make my life easier when we go practical.

I also wanted to share that I have succeeded in training her to sleep in her own cot and room from 10pm to 6/7am for the past week! The training started 3 days before she turned one, and is working well so far. Noticed that the tone of her cries have changed from the "I really really need you and I am so scared" to "I want you to play with me and I'm frustrated that you aren't doing what I want" kind of cries.

Today she whimpered for only 1 minute before dropping to sleep at 9.30pm! Explains for my long long post today.. keke So happy.
happy.gif
Hope this continues!

Melody - Yah, I gave E ABC pasta with pasta sauce and mee sua, sometimes guo tiao also. If we outside, I might order fishball noodle to share with me.

nite_gal - congrats on yr success. never manage to train E do anything. sleep on his own.. in his room.. never.. haha..

PM,

Eh, you still up huh?! E asleep already?

To train a baby, you really have to be very disciplined and determined. For the past 1 year, Caitlyn trained me leh.. The hubs and I set a deadline of 1 year, when we know she really can understand things. Tis morning I told her to "Stop It!" cos she was biting me and she stopped, looked at me, smiled and said "Stop"!. Faintz.

Don't give up (unless of cos you enjoy sleeping with E by your side!)

Jasline,
If boy, then try #3 lor for another gal lor.

Hong,
Actually, we sort of think of the name ourselves. Since 1st one is Gerrard, so we wanted Ger-something, so thought of Gerrain. Then I did a search, no special meaning expect in the ancient years, its the God of War. So hopefully she can turn out to be a strong gal.

Zita,
Yap, MIA for sometime due to my intake is in. So kinda of busy nowadays.

nitegal, ur gal actually eat quite well and quite often...i guess different baby grow differently. my boy drinks abt 200 to 240ml of formula milk, but then pd say abit overweight. n pple here keep saying he looks big. dunno why the angmo baby look smaller then ours. and i am not overfeeding him also.

talking abt baby sleeping on their own, haiz.. my hubby refuse to let me put my son to his own room. he say becos the room got bugs. haiz.. cos now we stay on the ground floor, outside got alot of plants so sometimes bugs can find their way in. i think its an excuse, he wants to sleepp wif his son lor. i also find it hard to part (abit silly) but i think its for a good cause.

YB, u cook pasta wif wat type of tomato paste? can type or from fresh tomato? okok share wif me when u try it out. i need new ideas!!

dsii, i can understand. i also very lazy one... that's why i come in to forum to hope that mummies here can help to motivate me by sharing ideas. if alot of mummies are doing so already, then i'll feel bad n try to keep up :p

Hi Mummies,
Sharing some recipes from the book I bought. Meant for 1-2yr olds.

Minced Meat Oatmeal
<font color="ff0000">Ingredients</font>
38g minced beef
1/4 cup pumpkin flesh
3 tbsps oats

<font color="ff0000">Method</font>
Rinse pumpkin. Dice & steam for 10mins.
Bring 1 cup of water to boil.
Add pumpkin & oats. Bring to boil.
Pour in minced beef. Cook for awhile till done. Serve.

Misaryeo,
Based on the KKH brochure for feeding guide, approx 200ml each feed for 4 feeds a day is the recommended amount of milk. That works out to about 800ml a day, so your boy's milk intake is excellent! How heavy is your boy currently?

Haha, but generally my perception is that Angmoh babies are bigger size, so it's surprising to hear the opposite. Eh, which part of US are you in currently?

PM,
Re. Sleep training - It's actually very tuff on me cos I really could not tahan her crying when she was younger, and she was (and is) such a screamer! Actually I started very much earlier (like when she was 3+ mths or so) but stopped cos I couldn't take the crying. Have been "slave" to her for the past year, latching her to sleep, everytime she wakes up at night and co-bedding with her. While I do enjoy the bonding, I also feel strongly that I cannot put off the training too long (I read that generally it can only get more difficult). Recently, I noticed that her understanding and awareness seemed to have taken a quantum leap - she could even turn on her tears to get what she wants!
happy.gif
Hence the decision to start the training now, especially when she's well (no blocked nose etc). It's also in anticipation of any future pregnancy, so that my girl would already be sleeping well by then! Hee.. I'm a fervent planner!

Dsii/Misaryeo,
I'm a very lazy mummy, but indeed this forum has motivated me also! At least I did something up for my girl for her birthday. Otherwise, I would be super nuah.

nitegal - yup. need to sms me. wah. v strict the new company. i can't even access my gmail.. n lunch is strictly from 1 - 2.. *faints* it really is taking some getting used to. K's daily routine quite similar to ur cait's leh..

6/7am - breakfast milk (approx 180ml)
9am - breakfast cereal + fruit (just chop n give together leh..)
11am - b4 sleep milk (approx 180ml)
1pm - lunch (porridge/macaroni/potato stuff)
3pm - snack (usually yoghurt)
4.30pm - b4sleep milk (approx180ml)
6/7pm - dinner (repeat of lunch. haha)
9pm - last milk (approx 200ml)

yb - thanks for the recipe. will try it! so far my girl doesn't really fancy beef tho. =(

eeyore - oh dear, really hope char gets better soon. not sure why she's vomiting. maybe go see pd again?
sad.gif
K got to eat some icecream from her icecream cake today...

training bb - tonite went to a wedding dinner n saw this boy about 1wk older than Kristen. wah.. he behaved superbly.. very quiet n sit inside his pram.. only once he scream. hubby n i were super impressed.. didn't bring K cos scared she gets bored.. she's so easily bored n always need entertaining. sigh. need to train her to be self-entertaining liao.

eeyore, try to recall wat she has eaten? anything new? or has eaten something "dirty". poo 3X?! not lao sai right?

nitegal, but elliot is only taking 3X of formula a day leh. so that means still short of 1 feed. For the past 2 nights, he has been waking up at 5-6am and asked for milk. i really wonder if it is becos i need to feed him more wif an extra solid since now he is only on 2X solid and add in snacks for him... My boy now is abt 23 lbs (here dun use kg n use lbs, so i also very confuse sometimes) so i think its abt 10+ kg? I'm in Dallas/Texas now lor...

also feel like getting my boy to sleep in his own room. I am so used to him crying to sleep liao. cos i realise when i'm in the room with him, he lagi cannot sleep. must psycho my hubby into doing this :p infact when he was younger, we made him sleep in his own room. but becos my parents look after him during the weekdays, n when comes to weekend, we wanna spend more time withh him so he put him back to our room. but he dun co-sleep with me lah, he has his own cot to sleep in. but another prob with letting him sleep in his own room is that, i'll hav to walk into his room dunno how many times in the night to help him pick up his tutu (pacifier) when he cry for it. haiz... in a way its going to be more mafah for me.

YB, we dun take beef, so i think can add in chicken or pork right. and if dun use pumpkin can use other veg like sweet potato or carrot to substitute right? shld be lah hor...

i read from somewhere, for pasta can use parmesan cheese also leh. so meaning boil pasta till al dente, then add whatever cooked veg n meat then sprinkle cheese also can.

gd morning mummies
haiz...yesterday ian oso laosai...3X...but i tot due to teething..cos last few rounds oso like that..but hor..at 2am this morning..i found him at my feet ...head off the bed...body on the bed...yet sleeping..then i carried him back to his pillow..i found him wet wet..tot his diaper leaked..but OMG!!! he laosai...pengz..and at 2 am i clean his poo...pengz...sianz ah..dunno issit teething or really laosai (tummy upset)
