frankly, i believe in the phrase Xiang Jian How, Tong Zu Nan... Different people have different habits and style of doing things, misunderstandings comes about easily. So I prefer to maintain some distance so that the relationship can be more cordial. I told my hubby that I prefer not to stay with my PILs, unless there is a real good reason.

u bet...starting hor..i cried everynite ah...especially will smell my boy's pillow//bolster...hehhee..then friday will be very happy..cant wait for my hb to fetch my son back..then sat very happy..whole day play with him..bring him out...sunday..moody...nite fall...very very moody..whenthe time came..he cried looking for me...my eyes watery..hehehe...then everything start again...routine loh
 
Sometimes i don't know is it the pregnancy hormones at work. I can think many different scenarios and tune my mind to think from differentt angles, some positive, some negative. But the challenge is how to keep the mind in the positive mode.
When mil do something that irks me, e.g. staring(admiring?) at my tummy, I can feel the negative vibes all coming out...
 
Poppy! Thats the example I gave to my hubby too! Hehehe.. ok lah, the keys we sort of come to an agreement liao. Now just dunno how to tell MIL abt it.

MY SIL's boy is very attached to me and my MIL. Each time my SIL tries to carry him, he will like siam away leh...

Stephanie I understand what u mean by appreciating her. At times, she's really of good help especially when u need extra pair of hands and hubby is just not around. Like now, I dont do housework, coz she forbidded me to do so.. and also sometimes I abit guo fen, lazy to buy food and will just go on hunger strike, she will buy for me....
Other than intruding privacy and abit nagging, other things she's still quite alright...

I try not to have direct confrontation with her.... but my SIL has some serious problems with her loh.. she's always complaining abt her thou..
 
I think u and MIL can have a small discussion. Test Test water see how MIL looks after children and see if she's those demanding type and everything must follow her or not...

If she's pretty open, u can por her a bit by asking her tips on handling baby based on her many yrs of experience, then suggest to her on what u have read in books and see what she says.. I believe like that will have less conflicts and less stress if you guys have discussed beforehand

Same as dsiitan, I am also a weekend parents and till now where my daughter is already 2.5 yr old she is still with my MIL during weekday. I didnt fetch her back till friday.
She is still very close to me, of course with my MIL ard she will tend to more "teh" but luckily my MIL will let me take control if i was ard.

The way i teach my daughter is very diff from MIL, may be that is why she find mummy very fun to be with and she still very close to me.
As for hubby, the bond just grew closer as time passed. Now, she will still asked her daddy to carry her when she see him after work.

i have a frd having the same problem as u. She doesnt want to give her hse key but she got no choice. End up the MIL turn up at her door without informing her.
She was so miserable for the 1st yr till one day the MIL tell her she wun be coming over that often and she started to pack alot of program for her daughter.
 
u all so nice, got mum to help look after. My mum recently fell very sick, have to go medical checkup very often, lost so much weight somemore. See already heartpain.

Then now bb anytime can pop, i also cannot help her much, except visit her more often. sianz...

paranoid mummy, r u the kind who is good at making small talk? i am not that's y i not close to her after so long. i am very quiet. so even though no conflicts, also no improvements!

me too..no help..hahaha...my MIL cant walk adn she herself very very weak liao...80yrs old..my mum passed away last yr dec..so no one to help me..hehe..but lucky enuff..i got to know few gd ppl..(my son's classmates mummies)..hehehe...now always sms to check on me see if i want anything or help...so will ask help from them if i really need one..hehehe
 
Stephanie, from the way i look at her take care of my SIL's son, i rather take care of myself...and she herself admitted that she doesnt have that kind of nai xing to look after children. Recently, she keep asking my SIL to put BB in infant care.

Decimal Pt, I am ok, in fact she's the one who is always initiating talks, coz she' that kind who will dig n dig info from u one....

wah.. today the thread move really really fast.. i spend an hr plus reading... trying very hard to keep up... wanna comment also forget wat already.. oh yah... li may and MDMT, ur bb so cute so cute... me as a first time mum.. really dunno wat to expect leh.. i dunno how i'll feel during labour and when i see my bb.. and how my bb will look like.. very scare yet excited..
for those who goign to pop soon.. i feel very excited for u.. i have to still wait and wait lor.. i think by the time i pop.. many are already either halfway thru confinement or finishing confinement...

I always do thing diff from MIL.
I play games with her, i read to her. I asked her to help me in this and that that MIL will not usually do with her.

However, when the kid is younger, pretty hard to do thing diff from the caregiver.

It is only when she is older then i have more things to do with her.

I am also a funny and expressive person with alot of funny facial expression. May be that is why she find mummy very fun.

I also cook food that is diff from my MIL bring her to places my MIL may not bring her.

Dun worry, kid is always close to their own parents. U not like not seeing the baby for many months or yrs. As long as u still keep in contact, the child will be closed to u.

I agree with Hong... Its really also the enthusiasiam u show to ur kids that u have for them and is interested in what they do...

No point u with them everyday but neglect them
