(2006/07) JULY 2006 MTB

Lok,
Does Great Eastern cover outpatient bills? That is, normal visits to the GP.

Lala,
It's fine to mix girl and boy colours for the bibs cos some mums are only ordering one. I've put down your first choices - red and mauve/lilac.

NAN formula,
I'm curious as to why mummies only use the HA version of NAN and not the normal NAN if their bbs are not prone to allergies. Is there something I'm not aware about the normal NAN? Please share.
Would like to share that I chose NAN normal for Dylan when we were in Spore and ran out of his UK brand (didn't bring enough cos we extended trip) cos the ingredients are very similar to his UK brand, which is the most expensive brand you can find in the supermarkets here. For food, I'm willing to spend as much as it takes cos health matters. As opposed to things like clothes and nappies. ;-)

dsii,
Mothercare carries it! But it's $315. Very expensive. Sigh..... Do you think it'll be too late to get it when bb's 8months old? Cos that's when hb will be flying over. It's 18kg so he will prob only be able to pack his underwear and nothing else. Haha.

zoe
does sinapore mothercare carries it? hmmm....do u think dylan will still let u confine him in that small area? i dunno leh..cos for me i only uses playpen...even for my elder boy...hehe..

dsii,
Dylan won't have a choice. ;-p Can't babyproof my parents' place you see. I'm thinking... can split it up later into 2 3-sections to fence off rooms. I have a dog so if I'm busy can keep one on each side. ;-) Just discussed with hb, he says to get it. Yay! It will have a decent re-sale value so I think it's not so wasteful.

lala, i think you pump on alternate days lor now lor, then slowly increase the interval till you dont feel anything. that was what i did for my twins la. and also decrease the pumping time.

im also very tempted to give up cos my MS has dropped. when the twins had bronchitis i didnt have time to pump.. and was very tired. so my pumping session were really short, even though i still managed to pump twice a day.

kloe,
D's poo has become more solid and he used to go every one or 2 days, now he goes every 2-3 days. Banana works well if we start to worry about him not going for too many days. Haven't had to resort to prune juice yet. ;-)

Hope someone can advice on thsi -
My first menstruation came two sundays ago (stop breastfeeding about 1.5 months already), 7th Jan and it lasted for 7 days so about 14Jan I'm clear. But today, or rather just now, I noticed my panty liner has blood stain which looks like menses starting.. is this normal??

lia
i remembered u got post a link regarding the transition of mixing FM and follow-up..but i forgot which link liao...can post again? so now how much stage 2 FM to mix with stage 1 if
ian is drinking 150ml

Hi mummies,
so many postings.

May,
ur comment abt big butt is really funny. I think we need to do crunching to tone our butt.

YB,
u slim down to 48kg wow that is alot. I will be happy if i can drop to 55kg. That is my idea weight. The other time i went to a nearby GP and ask him abt slimming pill. I asked abt side effect, he when blah blah. One point stop me, he said " like cannot sleep, blah blah blah" I told him then dun want.. I'm already not enough rest liao so i didnt take.

see...one afternoon only, already cannot catch up.

YB, so you put your baby in the nursery? very american style...I hope to do so when Max turn one year old.

Hi Lok,
I mixed wif water only..but I taste no taste leh...hmm..mayb I did wrongly? But I follow Kin's instructions leh...

Hi Hong,
Diff slimming pills has diff side effects. Reductile reduce ur appetite. It doesn't affect ur sleep. Those pills which increase ur metabolismm rate will affect ur sleep though...so far, I dun have any side effects at all...But then, it depends on individual.

Hi Julie,
Yes, my gal sleeps alone in the nursery. Did tat when she was a newborn, but at 2nd mth when she liked to sleep on her tummy, I brought her into our room cos I feel it's safer if we're near to her. But now, she flips & turns like nobody's biz. So I feel it's safe to let her sleep alone again. So far ok. Cos she also dun wake up at nite liao. I hope to train her to b more independent & less sticky to either one of us. Also, we enjoy the privacy.

Hi Poppy,
Feb gathering is on 10 Feb. R u free?

Hi Lok,
Ok, will inform u again when the date is nearer.

YB...max still need to wake up for one feed during the night..tried giving him water but he look at me everytime as if he is begging me...so continue to feed then.

Zoe, YB, thanks. I have not given her bananas or papaya yet. My ger pooed this morning after 2.5 days of not pooing. It's a relief
happy.gif
Can see some pieces of carrot in her poo. Hee...

YB, envy you. Your ger can sleep throughout the nite. Mine still wake up for feeds and for her pacifier. How did you train her?

just spoonfed Germayn brown rice cereal. was ok.. she kept pushing some of the cereal out with her tongue, but could see that she's taking in some and wants more.
And, my MIL gave her bread... i duno.. i thought she shouldnt be given bread at 6mths...???? i told her not to and she said it's ok and asked me not to be so particular about giving the kids food. like for the twins i should let them eat everything now. mabbe except cold stuff since my elder gal has asthma. then i was quite..angry.. told her tt i do allow them to eat most things except those..very salty biscuits, cold stuff, and those chocs, sweets. i allow them to take outside food also but not frequently. sigh. dunno. these days, things dont seem to be getting on very well b/w the both of us. it was when she started insisting that the nebuliser shouldnt be used on them and they're fine (when they're vomitting phlegm and wheezing so loudly?????). i understand her concern, but it's abit weird.. like..sometimes, she'll tell me which neighbour say what medicine is good for them. then i think she prob thinks tt im not experienced enough eh... but i do read up lor.. ever since lycia was diagnosed with having asthma.
aiya.. duno.. and i can't complain to my husband. dun wanna stress him..cos if i do, he'll get upset and angry, and i'll get angry with him for being angry. ahahahahah.

Z-lia, i understand your "pain" as my MIL has been feeding my boy with food like bread, tofu, fish, red bean soup & other desserts too!!! We have told her not to but i think sometimes she just cant resist and insisting that they should learn to eat everything! Sighhhhh

Nothing much i can do actually and rally beyond my control as i spend my time working... And i am still in office now! I also try to get my hubby to talk to her as I dont want to appear to be too difficult and spoil the relationship.

Zoe,
I have given Ryan apples, papaya and banana and he loves it....mostly my mum fed him cos he stayed there during daytime. Was thinking of avocado now....
happy.gif

YB,
U tried the bellamy rice cereal? I felt it is very lumpy...I made this am but did not give Ryan, threw away and make another bowl of Healthy Times Oatmeal for him instead. Is it supposed to be like that?

Julie,
U meant teething biscuits? I have a box of from Healthy Times....not too sure to give him now? But have to supervise when you give to your baby.

Julie,
I offered Dylan a Bikiepeg a week ago but he didn't want it. Played with it but pulled a face when he tasted it. I bought him rusks but haven't offered them yet.
https://secure.bickiepegs.co.uk/acatalog/Bickiepegs_Teething_Biscuits.html

Blessings,
That's good to hear that Ryan loves his fruits. I haven't offered him avocado although it's higly nutritious cos I don't like it very much so I'll have to throw the whole fruit away after D has a taste of it which will be a waste. I've been feeding him crushed bran/wheat flakes (adult cereal) mixed with his rice cereal and he doesn't mind that. I find the bran flakes more nutritious than rice. We eat bran flakes regularly so I didn't have to buy it specially for him.

YB,
it is tasteless to us becoz we not used to it but it really is v fragrant. We are not used to it but you got to try her on it a little at time till she is used to it. I fed my girl even just 1-2 small spoons just to get her used to eating fr a spoon and teach her how to swallow. My girl got used to it after 2 wks. I think some other mummies can share. If you intro the baby with too tasteful stuff, which is added to sugar and salt , then not v healthy for them, right??
Check waht other mummies say...

blessings,
the lumpiness becoz water temp not quite right. try 1 part hot wter, 3 part room temp water. then pour in bowl first, after which you add the bellamy rice into it. it is really like blended cooked plain porridge

Hi mummies,
Was at Mrs Wong's massage class this morning and we were asking her about feeding solids. She gave a lot of advice, which I thought very useful and good to share. Try to summarise in point form below:

1) Start with white rice cereal for 2 weeks.

2) Brown rice - to mix 1 part with 2 parts white rice. Better to start with white rice cereal. Brown rice overworks the baby's digestive system and causes constipation.

3) Soup Base - use pork, fish or chicken bones boiled over 12 hours. Don't use Ikan Billis, coz too much salt and preservatives.

4) Don't give meat till after 1yr.

5) Dilute juice if giving any. Else baby won't take milk.

6) Don't give soy sauce, marmite, bovril till after 1yr. High salt content, will overwork baby's kidneys. Have kidney problems later in life.

7) Can start porridge at 6.5mths. Don't mix too many types of veg, else taste awkward and baby reject. can cook veg seperately and scoop together with porridge when feeding, so baby can taste individual veg and taste not so wierd.

hmmm.....think that's all i can recall right now....generally, we have to be more cautious with the baby's diet up till 12 mths as their digestive system still developing. then most foods are permissiable after that.

Hope this helps!

Jul,
I have already started porridge for Ryan when he was 5 months old under the advise of PD. Two meals a day....lunch time porridge and dinner time- cereal with organic jar food, rest of course FM...As for the fruit juices, it actually tasted very bland...like favoured mineral water...add more water will really taste like water already...but then I think it is good to dilute it as well.

Kin,
I guess you are right. I was afraid that the cereal will turn cold easily after much stirring that I use hot water to make FM and pour into the rice cereal. I use the same method for Healthy Times cereal and it turns out fine. Will try again tomorrow in making warm FM than hot FM. Yes, I tasted it as well....taste nice though...but I also add organic jar food in it as well.

Zoe,
I read that it is not advisable to offer wheat to babies now. Preferably 8 to 9 months and above. Brown Rice, Oatmeal and barley is the least allergy of all...so can offer to babies now.

Zoe, Blessing, ya, i'm referring to those teething biscuits. Wanted to try but not too sure if this is the right time. Thought since he started putting everything in his mouth, might as well give him something nutrition then biting all the teethers...

Kin, so do we mix more hot water with cereal or less to reduce the lump.

Thanks Jul04. I;ve been using ikan bilis all along. I tried with pork once, but the porridge is quite bland. Mrs wong mentioned if our babies can take fish? How to use the fish to make stock?

Kin, thanks i received those cubes today.

YB, how i envy you. 48kg was my pre preg weight i am now 52kg, hard to lose more liao. My hubby every night tabao fried hokkien mee and we are stuck with HK drama serial, every night sit infront of TV and munchh prawn crackers.

Emerson still wakes up many many times in the night. Sometimes he "hum beeen" coz my hubby likes to play with him in a rowdy manner even I told him many many times. Sometimes he wakes up I dunno if its for milk but I just shaft my nipples to him and make him quiet.

Z-lia, hope yr kids are well. We can never be too happy when they healthy. I understand why yr agony. Today my MIL tried to feed Emerson with those packet Ribena, cold one somemore. I stare with my eyes big big and then she said "ohhh.. mummy say u cannot drink..not ah mah dun wanna give u har..."

Julie, I gave Emerson those finger size biscult, they are really soft and melts in the mouth. He knows how to pick them up and put inside his mouth when I place them on my palm.

Re: BB biting.

There was once when E bit my nipple with his teeth, yest! he has them liao, only one thou. I scream and he got a shock look at me puzzled and then resume he sucking. My hubby was laughing away.

i think I'm so gek kiang to enrol myself in driving. I am suppose to have some e lesson in the netm, but I'm still here posting. Sigh. Waste my hubby's $. Ha.

PM,
Mrs Wong said can use fish bones. Guess can't use fish meat for stock else all "nuah" already. She said that things tastes bland to us coz we used to tasty stuff already. But babies starting from zero, so no need to be too tasty. This stage is to train them to chew and swallow and for the digestive system to develop.

blessings,
Thanks for your advise. Dylan's been alright with wheat so far. We don't have a family history of Coeliac Disease or an intolerance or allergy to wheat. My midwife advised me to feed Dylan weetabix with milk for breakfast. I haven't come across any baby brown rice over here so will only introduce that when we get to SP.

hmm.....din think of that. maybe can strain the soup or put the bones in a bag like those teabag sort?

When i start my boy on porridge, I think I will make one big pot then freeze the soup in portions. Too tiring to cook the base everyday....

Let me email Mrs Wong and ask if there's any vegetable base that we can use like sweet corn or soy beans.

opps. have been giving my twins ikan bilis stock with their porridge since they were mabbe... 6-7mths old. haha.

PM, ya, like..sometimes, my MIL and FIL will wanna give the twins apple from the fridge. and it's apple cut 1-2 days ago, soaked in salt, and stored in the fridge lor. then i'll say cannot and they'll say the same thing.. say tt it's mummy who said cannot. when it comes to food, i'm always the baddie.

Jul/PM, was thinking, is it use those super huge fish bone to cook? like.. those middle part of the big fish kind? wahahaha. paiseh. i sound abit sua gu. dont know very much about fish, and cooking. when i used to cook for my hubby, i cook the same thing most of the time. hahaha.

Zoe, think my twins used till.. at least 8-9mths? can't really remember. but they like it when they wanna 'run' around. For me i think it's quite a good investment. can leave her there to play by herself. it's prob the safest place now that she keeps flipping around, and pouncing.

Yeah, Jul04, thanks for helping us get information. hehe.

okay..now, all the 3 kids are asleep.. sort of..considered time to pump then. but im feeling so lazy, so tired.

Thanks Jul04, Hmmm.. can ask her another thing? I am grating the carrots and broccoli and then dumping them into the slow cooker w the porridge, will VitC be lost also? I tried steaming them, but it's still very hard. Paiseh hor...

Zlia, PM,
My parents also always tempt my boy with whatever they are eating. Then I have to keep watching them and tell them NO and they'll tell my boy mummy toturing him....there was once I was not looking and my dad let him taste sugarcane juice! Always have to scold them that he has allergies so have to be more careful. If he not feeling well, dun want to drink milk and I have to bring him to the PD, I'll claim money from them!

PM,
Oops...I sent out the email liao...I wait for her to reply then I ask again ok?

hmm...but isn't Vit C destroyed under heat? maybe get Vit C from fruits?

Jul04, I dunno leh.... I heard some mummies mentioned so.

U know something, Someone, my aunt or who gave Emerson honeydew when he was 1 or 2 mths old, think Z-lia knew abt it. I am fuming mad, but yet i cant say anything..

aiyo....I will be fuming mad also! That's why I have to keep telling people that K has eczema and is very sensitive...he has allergies and cannot anyhow eat. My parents still dun get it! My mum din take care of us when my bro and I were young so she keep thinking K can eat liao, then anything also can! sighz....

Julie,
too warm or too cold wil, cause the lumps to appear. Very much like formula milk.

Blessing, i mix rice with baby food from the jar too.

PM, Z-lia, Jul04.
,i went thru that pahse with my MIL too, everything i give in to them. They tend to be like that if you have your first child.Just have to harden yourself and be insitent to say no to them. Now, even when my older girl is 4 yrs old they still like that, but they see my girl on inhlaor daily, that she got v bad cough and bad skin they keep quiet now. LAst time, say exact same things. Somehow, i blamed my MIL for my girl's sensitive skin because at 4 mths old, she place a prawn in the mouth of my older girl, to "open up her mouth". Today her terrible skin sensitivity is something I am trying hard to cope with. Nowadays, i don't give them much "respect" in that way becoz i feel I have to protect my children properly. For example older folks like to say, eat a little can, nevermind. You know what i say to them, CANNOT. No such thing as a little bit. Once you dab a little on the tongue, it goes into their system and the body will react. I think my in-laws think i'm rude but I rather they see me rude then my daugther suffer. So now, with no. 2, they donb't say much already.I am famous as the rude Daugther in law. but i am so angry when they just give my older daughter anything she wants. So guess what i do, i scold and cane her very badly in front of them for accepting things she not suppose to eat. So, next time they dun dare give her unless with my permission.Sigh... I gain my "respect" from them in this manner, in the wrong way but it works. If not, they think, you young, everything also don't know.

Hi Kloe,
When my gal was abt 3mths old, I tried to give her more milk during her last feeding. Then if she woke up in the middle of the night, I'll give her lesser & lesser milk. Then slowly just water. Finally, I just rock or pat her back to sleep. But then, I think it depends on individual bbs. Cos at tat time, I noticed my gal couldn't finish her milk even when she woke up in the middle of the night. So I believe she was just used to getting up at tat hour, & was not hungry at all...

Hi Jul,
Is it okay if I give brown rice on alternate days, then white rice in between?

Ermm, y must boil the soup base for 12hours huh?? Can use those chicken or fish cubes for soup base?

I'm an idiot when it comes to cooking. So far, I've only made apples & sweet potatos puree for my gal. Mostly, she just take brown rice & FM. My MIL bought so many diff brands of brown rice cereal for my gal until I blur. But I haven't let her try them yet. I just bought banana rice cereal for her. Hoping to alternate wif the brown rice. Hee..hee..I only know how to cook porridge recently..:p
