(2006/05) May 2006 MTB

annie,
brown discharge was like dried up by the time I actually saw my panty, leaving stains of brown only.

But today got normal yellowish discharge which is more than the usual qty I have and its very sticky.

Yasmin,
dont worry so much. Mind do ask you, do you do any exercise or carry any heavy things recently? Did your gynea gave you a VE test recently? or having sex? The nurse did tell me its normal to have such discharge so long no bleeding (ie red colour and a lot).

e show can appear 1 or 2 days then back to normal like yellowish discharge especially after a VE test.

You have more tense contraction than before hor, better tell yr gynea abt the show n the contraction. Think that your cervix already open. if so, you can welcome your baby v soon.. gong xi lor..
happy.gif

annie,
I have been doing the squatting exercise and also some housework, like cleaning up the house. No did not do VE, no sex since found out I am preggie.
I have mentioned to my gynae during Monday's checkup. He did mentioned that I have signs of labour but dont know how 'big' cervix is opened now....
I want baby to come out only in May, have been talking to baby. Dont know if she has been listening?

Hi Kite! Dr Yvonne Chan's stitching for my first delivery leaves no prominent scar, very clean, like a thin line, instead, it's my stretchmarks dat are more obvious ;p She was recommnded to me by a friend & I trust her skills, juz dat the fees getting a bit steep as compared to my 1st bill :p
Tis time round I hvn't check cos tho stitches removed, I can only remove the plaster next mon but cos tis preg i was told my womb was overstretched and cldn't contract during the op, it kinda hurt loh, plus 2nd cut at the same area, quite painful esp from lying down n sitting up position.
When is your EDD?

Yasmin,
Don't worry, it take 1 week to open 1/2 cm of your cervix provide your baby head is engaged. Squatting exercise do strength yr inner thights and oso your pelvis floor thats y you have show. Squatting helps to give you strength during labour especially pushing.

Even if your cervix is open to 1.5 cm to 2cm, can oso have overdue EDD like my sister and my colleague's wife. However, you have to tell your gynea to give you a VE test.

If you want your baby to come out only close to EDD, then you better don't do so much household chores and walk less. If you want to have earlier EDD, then carry on with the current chores and exercise and do more on walking.

a BIG congratZ to both Twinklestarry and Amie on your newborn babies!

Fates,

administering epidural can be a bit painful la

Ivy,

defrost EBM in fridge (4 degrees), then warm it up with a cup of warm/hot water.

Mothers,

May I ask which PD are your babies seeing now? Thinking of changing ours. So far, there's recommendations for Dr. Terence Tan (Mt A) and Dr. Ong WC (United Sq).

yasmin,
Me too, having alot of discharge since Monday and yesterday the discharge turns brownish. Today is back to normal. I'm also having contractions + menstrual cramp feeling on irregular timing.

piglet, sama sama only thing is my edd almost 2wks aft urs.
happy.gif
So its normal to have brownish discharge 1 day and the next day to have normal discharge.

about the discharge thingy...it's true. i also had brownish discharge a few wks back...but it has returned to normal. but gynae may do a swab test to ensure that there is not fungus infection...

Huh?? Brownish disharge not normal meh?! I have brownish disharge since the beginning leh. I thought bright red is abnormal.

Yasmin,
How do you do the squatinng exrcise. Want to try too.

Gummie,
i also start to feel scared too. Dunno how i had the courage to get preggie in the first place. Whats worse is that my hubby not really involved with the preggie and baby thing.

piglet,
Same here, my area oso have to vote! looking forward leh..

finally, find some1 experience same like me. Having period cramps all these days and seems getting stronger
happy.gif

ino,
My gynea did the swap test becos i request for it. I doubt becos of the virus or infection stuff that make the discharge brownish. Can be the show.

Gals,
For your information.

Is there any way to predict when I?m going to go into labor?
Not really. Experts don't fully understand what triggers the onset of labor, and there's no way to predict exactly when it will start. Your body actually starts "preparing" for labor up to a month before you give birth. You may be blissfully unaware of what's going on or you may begin to notice new symptoms as your due date draws near. Here are some things that may happen in the weeks or days before labor starts:

* Your baby "drops."
If this is your first pregnancy, you may feel what's known as "lightening" a few weeks before labor starts. You might detect a heaviness in your pelvis as this happens and notice less pressure just below your ribcage, making it easier to catch your breath.

* You note an uptick in Braxton Hicks contractions.
More frequent and intense Braxton Hicks contractions can signal pre-labor, during which your cervix ripens and the stage is set for true labor. Some women experience a crampy, menstrual-like feeling during this time.

Sometimes, as true labor draws near, Braxton Hicks contractions become relatively painful and strike as often as every ten to 20 minutes, making you wonder whether true labor has started. However, if the contractions don't get longer, stronger, and closer together and cause your cervix to dilate progressively, then what you're feeling is probably so-called "false labor."

* Your cervix starts to ripen.
In the days and weeks before delivery, Braxton Hicks may do the preliminary work of softening, thinning, and perhaps opening your cervix a bit. (If you've given birth before, your cervix is more likely to dilate a centimeter or two before labor starts but keep in mind that even being 40 weeks pregnant with your first baby and 1 centimeter dilated is no guarantee that labor's imminent.) When you're at or near your due date, your practitioner may do a vaginal exam during your prenatal visit to see whether your cervix has started to change.

* You pass your mucus plug or notice "bloody show."
You may pass your mucus plug the small amount of thickened mucus that's sealed your cervical canal during the last nine months if your cervix begins to dilate as you get close to labor. The plug may come out all at once in a lump, or as increased vaginal discharge over the course of several days. The mucus may be tinged with blood (which may be brown, pink, or red), which is why it's referred to as "bloody show." Having sex or a vaginal exam can also disturb your mucus plug and cause you to see some bloody discharge even when labor isn't going to start in the next few days. In either case, if you see more than a few spots of blood, be sure to call your caregiver immediately because it could be a sign of a problem.

* Your water breaks.
When the fluid-filled amniotic sac surrounding your baby ruptures, the fluid leaks from your vagina. And whether it comes out in a large gush or a small trickle, you should call your doctor or midwife.

Most women start having regular contractions sometime before their water breaks, but in some cases, the water breaks first. When this happens, labor usually follows soon. If you don't start having contractions on your own within a certain amount of time, you'll need to be induced, since your baby will be at increased risk for infection without the amniotic sac's built-in protection against germs.

How can I tell if my labor has actually started?
It's often not possible to pinpoint exactly when "true" labor begins because early labor contractions might start out feeling like the Braxton Hicks contractions you may have been noticing for weeks. It's likely that labor is under way, however, when your contractions become increasingly longer, stronger, and closer together. They may be as far apart as every ten minutes or so in the beginning, but they won't stop or ease up no matter what you do. And in time, they'll become more painful and closer together. In some cases, though, the onset of strong, regular contractions comes with little or no warning it's different for every woman and with every pregnancy.

When should I call my doctor or midwife?
Toward the end of your pregnancy, your practitioner should give you a clear set of guidelines for when it's time to let her know that you're having contractions and at what point she'll want you to go to the hospital or birth center. These instructions will depend on your individual situation whether you have pregnancy complications or are otherwise considered high-risk, whether this is your first baby, and practical matters like how far you live from the hospital or birth center and your caregiver's personal preference (some prefer an early heads-up).

If your pregnancy is uncomplicated, she'll probably have you wait to come in until you've been having contractions that last for about a minute each, coming every five minutes for about an hour. (You time a contraction from the beginning of one to the beginning of the next one.) As a rule, if you're high-risk, she'll want to hear from you earlier in labor.

Don't be afraid to call if the signs aren't clear but you think the time may have come. Doctors and midwives are used to getting calls from women who aren't sure whether they're in labor and need guidance. It's part of their job. And the truth is, your practitioner can tell a lot by the tone and tenor of your voice, so verbal communication helps. She'll want to know how close together your contractions are, how long each one lasts, how strong they are (she'll note whether you can talk through a contraction), and any other symptoms you may have.

Finally, whether or not your pregnancy has been problem-free up to now, be sure to call your practitioner right away (and if you can't reach her, head for the hospital) in the following situations:
Your water breaks or you suspect that you're leaking amniotic fluid. Tell your practitioner if it's yellow, brown, or greenish, because this signals the presence of meconium, your baby's first stool, and is sometimes a sign of fetal stress. It's also important to let her know if the fluid looks bloody.

You notice that your baby's less active.

You have vaginal bleeding (unless it's just bloody show mucus with a spot or streak of blood), fever, severe headaches, vision changes, or abdominal pain

Annie,
What is your area? I think most of the North, North-East and East got opposition. Mine is Pasir Ris-Punggol. My first voting, finally. Yes, night and day also feels the cramp.

sook, the squatting exercise is very much like the olden way of going toilet. You know b4 we had toilet bowls, we used to squat down right. Its the same way.
happy.gif

I do 10 squats per day. My thighs will feel like jelly after that.
happy.gif

sponge,

i heard alot of good recommendation for Dr Terence Tan (Mt A) and i be using him too but think the queue to see him is always super long lor..

piglet,
I stay at Sengkang, compassvale Link. So under Pasir Ris Punggol. Got opposition. (hopefully, they can get listed there, result has to depend on today registration.
happy.gif

However, i doubt opposition will win cause, govt already make their words loud and clear. "Sengkang, punggol and pasir ris will have each individual sport halls & swimming pools but depend on the voting". (i extract from Newspaper, dont sue me for anything!).
I told my hubby that if my contraction happen on that day, i will have my shower and go for the vote before admit to the hospital. I guess they will let me vote first*. hahah
happy.gif

Annie,
Guess what? I'm also staying at compassvale link. Hahaha.. I hope I'll not be in hospital by then. I want to go voting!!!!

piglet,
Which block? I am at 267B, heard chris oso stay nearby, but didnt know which block.
Same here! i want to vote, cos deep wall frog, nvb vote b4. haha
happy.gif

I am curious if we happen to be in hospital at that day, how to explain? Get the mc from gynea then send to where? Can be excuse?
I think your EDD is earlier than me right? My EDD is at 8 May, Mt A, how abt you?

Annie,
I'm at 269C, so you're staying near the coffee shop. My EDD is 2nd May, Mount A also. I also don't know send the MC to where leh.. hahaha

Piglet,
Maybe you have your labour on labour day. hahah.. so you must be v nervous lor..
So close, i can pay a visit to you at your hse after you discharge from hospital. Think Ivy oso stay at blk 269 but dont know which block. Think she is very busy with her work.

Milo,

Friend of mine is also seeing Dr Tan at Mt A and the queue is super duper long. Met her juz now at Mt A and I can see why. Dr Tan seems very popular with babies delivered at Mt A. Took a biz card at the clinic and I guess he's gonna be one of my choice for PD
happy.gif

i also noticed an increase in vaginal discharge, but it's not exactly brown, more like clear or slightly yellowish n thicker than normal...

yasmin,
if u dun wan yr bb to arrive earlier, then better not do the squats for now?

sook,
why u say yr husband not involved in yr pregnancy n bb thing? my husb not with me too for a period now, although he tries to make it for some of my gynae visits... but he's still 'in the loop' about things, how big bb is how active blah blah...

Gabby's mum,

Was it u that ask me about the bb monitor i bought from kiddy palace? It is one way and no good at all! Lots of interference picked up. And last evening worse, can't work well at all. So my hubby just brought it to kiddy palace to do exchange for a car seat as well as vouchers with no questions asked. The service is good!!

Annie,
Aiyoh, better not on labour day, got to spend extra $$$. Actually so many of us stay so near each other ah. Yah, but if you deliver earlier than me, then it's me who pay you a visit already. HeeHee

piglet,
