I think we should just cool it on the whole thing and issue. Each of us are entitled to our own opinions. Like you said Rena, this is a place where we air our views, so you've said yours and sept03Bride had said hers.
POSSIBLE Magazine Feature
Well, Valerie was kind enough to help us approach the editor of Motherhood Magazine who informed her to write in with a formal email with some pictures of what we had done so far in the form of gatherings, etc etc. Valerie and her hb was kind enough to draft out the formal email which is waiting to be sent, pending on the poll of results to whether you mummies are agreeable. There will be no TV crew or whatsoever, just a FEATURE of how we know each other from pregger days to giving birth to our child's milestones. Sharing with each other on PARENTING TIPS which we gain from this forum.
I think Valerie and her hb wrote really well, without mentioning which thread we are from, just the Singaporemotherhood forum and to ask them to take a look themselves randomly on how the mummies around Singapore gather on this forum to make friends and soon become a close-knitted community, a support group.
Advertisers would have to go through Chin Leng should they want to advertise on the SMH forum. So Mashy, yes, should we decide to go ahead and ask Motherhood Magazine to feature us (if they find it good material enough), we will keep Chin Leng in the loop.
If possible sponsors are aware that IF we have a magazine feature, they will all the more won't mind throwing in their products. As most of us know, they are businesses and if they can get some form of returns i.e. publicity on a magazine etc. This is Chicken-Little's viewpoint and mine as well for this section of my post.
Having said all that. Mummies, this is your event which the committee are trying our best to come up with best while keeping the overheads as low as possible. So please, do indicate your preference as to should we approach the magazine or not.

Thank you mummies for updating your budget and we well noted the revised amount. Just to share with you our progress.
1) Result of 1st poll : Function room or Chalet = Function room
2) Function room : Hotel, Condo or Club
3) Mamapanda offered daddy's condo function room but we have 35 babies with parents plus games, space is a big factor so we move on to decide between hotel or club
4) Poll again on budget : result $30-$40 per pax, today there is a revision at $30-$50 per couple
5) After getting the quotations for hotel, club n restaurant, committee will shortlist and decide by sunday after a group meeting and venue viewing. Venue to be advised
6) In order to get the best value for all since we now have to use a function room to accommodate 60-70 adults and 35 crawling/ walking babies, that is why we are trying to seek media coverage with motherhood and hence with this confirmation we can have more sponsorship to have Free gifts for the babies.
However, the committee will like to seek your opinion as some of you may not feel at ease with media coverage. You play a part in this thread so you definitely have the right to take a poll on to have or not to have the media coverage. Kindly state if you agree or disagree. We will go with the majority. There is no right or wrong answer, just go with your heart to state your opinion.

I think what Rena means is even though this forum is public but our gathering is not. It's still within our group. If privacy is what we want within the group, then we shouldn't let the media come into our private gathering. Maybe we ARE getting a little carried away liao...
Since most of us can afford paying $30-40 per pax, we shouldn't be needing sponsorship at all if we can get a venue which is FOC, right? Correct me if I'm wrong. However, I will still go with the majority.

Thank you mummies for updating your budget and we well noted the revised amount. Just to share with you our progress.
1) Result of 1st poll : Function room or Chalet = Function room
2) Function room : Hotel, Condo or Club
3) Mamapanda offered daddy's condo function room but we have 35 babies with parents plus games, space is a big factor so we move on to decide between hotel or club
4) Poll again on budget : result $30-$40 per pax, today there is a revision at $30-$50 per couple
5) After getting the quotations for hotel, club n restaurant, committee will shortlist and decide by sunday after a group meeting and venue viewing. Venue to be advised
6) In order to get the best value for all since we now have to use a function room to accommodate 60-70 adults and 35 crawling/ walking babies, that is why we are trying to seek media coverage with motherhood and hence with this confirmation we can have more sponsorship to have Free gifts for the babies.
However, the committee will like to seek your opinion as some of you may not feel at ease with media coverage. You play a part in this thread so you definitely have the right to take a poll on to have or not to have the media coverage. Kindly state if you agree or disagree. We will go with the majority. I am not sure if we are able to get sponsors or not. However I think it is fine without prize. As we have discussed earlier.. we can have sash (like what they hang over the chest during Miss Universe). It can be handmade at low cost. Or maybe just a printout of certificate to mark this event will do. Not necessary to spend too much money on prize as many of us could have spent alot during our own baby's birthday party. This is my point of view though.

I personally think I have REALLY benefitted alot from this forum. I got to know this forum when I was planning for my wedding but only became more active when I was pregant, learning what to eat what not to eat, finding out the latest sale and where to get the best deal in preparation for the arrival of Ashley, then the sharing of birth story (so we somehow know what to expect)... then the initial stresful and helpless months of motherhood (esp trying hard to breastfeed but NO MILK!)... and now, Ashley and all our little ones are 1 years old!! What an achievement!! And I am very glad as well as thankful that I have mummies here who are always willing to share their knowledge, lend a listening ear, support each other, and so on.... So if the magazine coverage would actually let more mothers and mothers-to-be out there learn that there is an avenue for them to get together and learn from each other, why not?? If privacy of the parents is a concern, we can ask that they only photograph the babies only without the parents... or only interview those who are willing to be interviewed, etc. I do not think our thread would get bombarded with advertisers as CL would have certain control over this, and so long as we do not give out our email addresses or contact details, chances of spam mails due to the media coverage is also quite slim as well. Just my 2 cents worth.

Birthday Bash on 3 Feb 07
Thank you mummies for updating your budget and we well noted the revised amount. Just to share with you our progress.
1) Result of 1st poll : Function room or Chalet = Function room
2) Function room : Hotel, Condo or Club
3) Mamapanda offered daddy's condo function room but we have 35 babies with parents plus games, space is a big factor so we move on to decide between hotel or club
4) Poll again on budget : result $30-$40 per pax, today there is a revision at $30-$50 per couple
5) After getting the quotations for hotel, club n restaurant, committee will shortlist and decide by sunday after a group meeting and venue viewing. Venue to be advised
6) In order to get the best value for all since we now have to use a function room to accommodate 60-70 adults and 35 crawling/ walking babies, that is why we are trying to seek media coverage with motherhood and hence with this confirmation we can have more sponsorship to have Free gifts for the babies.
However, the committee will like to seek your opinion as some of you may not feel at ease with media coverage. You play a part in this thread so you definitely have the right to take a poll on to have or not to have the media coverage. Kindly state if you agree or disagree. We will go with the majority. There is no right or wrong answer, just go with your heart to state your opinion.

i was just thinking perhaps we shld leave everythin to the committee to decide and finalise... it seems tat the bash is gettin nowhere near to settlement... if the games sponsorship portion is gona attract media which some of us are not comfortable with, shall we just call off the games???if not, we can always have games but no need prizes... we can self make crowns or sash for fun's sake..

I agree with you. I also benefited from the forums be it singaporebride or singaporemotherhood. With all the good advices provided by the mummies, I have more confidence in overcoming my morning sickness, breastfeeding problem, taking care of bb, etc etc.... 'cos I don't have many friends who already have kids.

Re. Birthday Bash
Correct me if I'm wrong...
When we have the idea of doing a Birthday Bash, the intention was simple. It was supposed to be a gathering for Jan EDD mothers (+ new mummies who has recently joined us) to celebrate the fact that our babies have reached their 1st year milestone and celebrate that we have struck up a solid friendship throughout our pregnancies and through the process of motherhood (that is 2 years of sharing in this forum). I think for all of us, it is not improtant whether we have a grand venue, or good food or prizes. We just want to get together, interact and have some fun. While I really really appreciate the good efforts that the mummies in the venue committee and games committee have put in, to the extent of getting sponsorship and even media coverage (though this may be inevitable if it comes with the sponsorship), let's all NOT lose focus on the primary objectives of having this birthday bash, that is, simply to get together and celebrate. If all else fails, ie. cannot find big and cheap venue, no sponsorhips, no games etc, I'm sure we will still have a grand time just eating simple finger food and blowing candles on a cake anywhere. This bash has kind of grown bigger than what we all had in mind in the first place. But please do not get me wrong, there's not to say that the efforts put in so far are all unnecessary.
I do agree god's child that since Commitees are formed, we should lend support ot whatever they have done so far.
But I just want to stress that let's not make this event something that is too big for us to handle or let this event create unhappiness amongst ourselves.
That said, I'll still like to cap expenditure to about max $30 per pax and any media coverage should be a feature about how the Forum (it's up to CL whether he wants the forum to be mentioned) has helped us band together and becoming good friends.

Just an idea for a location...not too sure if you guys want to consider or already have considered..i was looking for a place myself to hold renee's birthday and I called Singapore Swimming Club...they cater for their buffet which is $30 per pax and minimum is 30 pax..just an idea...

JH really drinks too much milk at night. my fren sugest that i dilute his milk. he drinks abt 15 oz each night after 9pm. so in a space of less than 12 hours, he drinks about 22 oz including the morning feed....

JH really drinks too much milk at night. my fren sugest that i dilute his milk. he drinks abt 15 oz each night after 9pm. so in a space of less than 12 hours, he drinks about 22 oz including the morning feed....

Fox has nice outfits for little girls! I just bought a few pcs for my niece who is 2 mths old. Haha, bought her a little skirt with the attached panty. So sweet & cute to see such a tiny skirt.
I have a very close friend who is expecting. I told her I want to shop for little girls. Then scan shows bb is a boy. 3 of us have boys so have been shopping for boys the past yr & I hve no chance to buy for girls. Last evening, just picking out little girls' oufit made me so happy!

Wow that's alot! For Mel, I try to give her in "instalments" instead of at one go. She'll ask for her milk around 7+ (she normally has her porridge around 6+). I'll give her around 4-5oz every hour and most of the time she must have at least 12oz then she willing to go to zzzzz.

I agree with Queen that our objective is to catch up, have fun and most importantly to celebrate our little darlings major one-year milestone as well as us surviving our first year of parenthood. I guess we should leave the event in the good hands of our capable organisers. I'll sure they will hear all the mommies out and decide on whats the best arrangement.

just 2 nights ago, renee woke up at 2 am to cry..dunno wats wrong...had to sing and sing for her and half and hr later, had to passed her to hb..went to vomit out my dinner..lucky hb back for 1 week's holiday.
I'm not a member..coz my fil wanted to buy the membership and cousin is a member. oh i forgot to ask the ballroom charges...maybe if they are keen they can find out more...if not location seems to be a big problem

Think the bash should be kept to its original intention. No need to have too many frills etc. It's just a gathering of mummies and babies whose birthdays fall closely to each other.
And the way I see it, no need to max out the budget. Keep to $30 per pax i.e. Maybe $20-$25 for food & venue and $5 for deco/misc stuff/prizes for games.
A suggestion:
How about holding it at Globetrotters? It's only about $20-$30 per head and they've a play area for the children. It can sit to about 100 pax. can book the entire restaurant for our use.

Thank you mummies for updating your budget and we well noted the revised amount. Just to share with you our progress.
1) Result of 1st poll : Function room or Chalet = Function room
2) Function room : Hotel, Condo or Club
3) Mamapanda offered daddy's condo function room but we have 35 babies with parents plus games, space is a big factor so we move on to decide between hotel or club
4) Poll again on budget : result $30-$40 per pax, today there is a revision at $30-$50 per couple
5) After getting the quotations for hotel, club n restaurant, committee will shortlist and decide by sunday after a group meeting and venue viewing. Venue to be advised
6) In order to get the best value for all since we now have to use a function room to accommodate 60-70 adults and 35 crawling/ walking babies, that is why we are trying to seek media coverage with motherhood and hence with this confirmation we can have more sponsorship to have Free gifts for the babies.
However, the committee will like to seek your opinion as some of you may not feel at ease with media coverage. You play a part in this thread so you definitely have the right to take a poll on to have or not to have the media coverage. Kindly state if you agree or disagree. We will go with the majority. There is no right or wrong answer, just go with your heart to state your opinion.
Objective of the media coverage : To get sponsorship for the prize / doorgift

Thank you mummies for updating your budget and we well noted the revised amount. Just to share with you our progress.
1) Result of 1st poll : Function room or Chalet = Function room
2) Function room : Hotel, Condo or Club
3) Mamapanda offered daddy's condo function room but we have 35 babies with parents plus games, space is a big factor so we move on to decide between hotel or club
4) Poll again on budget : result $30-$40 per pax, today there is a revision at $30-$50 per couple
5) After getting the quotations for hotel, club n restaurant, committee will shortlist and decide by sunday after a group meeting and venue viewing. Venue to be advised
6) In order to get the best value for all since we now have to use a function room to accommodate 60-70 adults and 35 crawling/ walking babies, that is why we are trying to seek media coverage with motherhood and hence with this confirmation we can have more sponsorship to have Free gifts for the babies.
However, the committee will like to seek your opinion as some of you may not feel at ease with media coverage. You play a part in this thread so you definitely have the right to take a poll on to have or not to have the media coverage. Kindly state if you agree or disagree. We will go with the majority.
