re constipation
i think as long as bb poo is soft, the frequency is not so key. but if the poo is pellet-like, then bb definitely suffer from constipation. will get some glycerin suppositories for standby...

Re Feeding Qty
my boi is now 5 weeks old and usually take 120ml per 3-hr. but for the past 2 evenings, he would consume 120 ml and then scream v loudly. only after another 30ml would he quiet down and sleep, with next feed abt 4 hrs later. Wondering if he's going thru a growth spurt. Any mummies experiencing this?

Hi ixwong

Heard growth spurts happen around 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 mths, 6 mths. So yr baby could be going thru a growth spurt. Anyway, when yr bb put on weight, he will need to drink more. I will be worried if bb eat less.

wah, i'm so relieved that i'm not the only one chkg out the newspaper specials! hee.. not so auntie after all.

ting2
u also eyeing the huggies from shop & save? I'm asking my dad to buy. U want? No trouble.

anissa
wa his eyes so big hor!

we-all-need-more-milk
dun keep thinking your milk not enuf.. if u're already doing everything u can, then just think positive & be confident that she'll thrive on your BM. Take more fish & Enfamama! Wow i love the chocolate tin.. easier to dissolve than Anmum.
Babies cry for all sorts of reasons, maybe your hormones are causing to imagine that she's perpetually hungry. Her tummy in only the size of a walnut.. how much can she demand of u??
re: sleep
When this happens to me, I just throw in the towel & carry bb to sleep. Isaac will be chest to chest on me when i'm sitting up, so that my arms can rest - u know how heavy he is lor.. We'll both sleep like that. Until I suddenly wake up & discover he's in deep sleep mode (no more movements from him, quiet breathing) then i set him in his cot.
Remember: bf routine takes time to be established. Stress & insufficient rest will affect production. Massage lady used to tell me: think of gushing milk!! Wow it worked for me.
Tell LL how u feel... can he take leave & be committed to help during the nights? If not, then think abt it this way: rather than 2 helpless adults struggling with 1 baby, may as well reduce it to 1. Lack of sleep = easily irritated... may as well be only u rather than both. Or tell him that u really need the prayer support while he's in the other rm, or at work.
It's gd that your sleeping hrs are same with Eliz's - get more rest so that u hv energy for her at nite!

Hi wendy, sorry for my late thank-u.. thank u for yr hosting ytd.. temple juz came over to my place.. hehe.. so uncle derrick has upgraded to Nanny derrick haha..

Hi I need milk.

yah, I am still taking tonics after my confinement. but, it's funny that during my confinement, her bowel movement is more frequent. like once in every 2 days

Perhaps, I should let her poo naturally rather than using glycerin suppository to help her. Really 'fan'!

as for sleep pattern, i am trying to see if i could set her to a routine so that she can have more regular sleeping pattern. It really stressed both my MIL and I out when she refuses to sleep in the day.

My MIL and Mom keep nagging at me to get sarong for her. But, I am scared that she will get too used to rocking and cannot fall asleep on her own.

Anyway, don't be depressed by bf and sleep. I think wendyg is right in saying that 1 helpless and tired adult is better than 2.

I also struggled with night feeding alone while my hb slept soundly through the night without waking up to help. But, when he wakes up at 7 am, I just pushed the bb to him and tell him to bottle feed the baby. After he took over, i just slept without cares in the world till 9 something when my MIL came to take over from him.

I think both you and your hb can come up with something to share the 'chores' of parenthood.

i need milk,

me having same problems as u...my record feeding time is 3+ hrs... so can empathise with ur fustration. recently we tried a trick, which is to feed bb with water when he asks for milk. it's a delay tactic that satifies him for a while. then nearing his bedtime, feed him w milk n he'll drink more efficiently.

i also do night feeds by myself... hb can just cover his head w blanket when bb cries... initially felt unsupported, but now also take it in my stride. hb makes up for it by being more involved during weekends... maybe can arrange for u to have a rest day or some hrs off as "compensation"?

Hi Vone,

Guess all babies are cute
happy.gif
You are really something man! So fast can take baby out already. I only started this week. Been taking him on the train, bus etc to 'experience' and to see how I can cope alone. He doesn't seem to like being in the stroller. I tried using the 'mom in mind' sling and it doesn't help either
sad.gif
So far each trip has been restricted to 2-3 hrs before he starts crying and I give up coaxing him. Hahaha ...

re: Hubby

Most hubbies seem to sleep thru babies' cries. *LOL* Just that day I asked my hubby if he knew how many times baby wakes up at night for milk. There was one day when baby cried at 8.30 am and woke hubby up. He just turned to baby and said "Give papa another 30 mins" and dropped back to sleep. Hahaha ... Anyway, I figured no point getting hubby to 'suffer' with me since there isn't much he can do when baby cries in the middle of the night anyway so I have been dealing with it alone. Perhaps you can try out diff ways of latching your baby so that both of you can get some sleep even when baby wants to be bf? I like to lay down side by side with baby and just let him latch onto my breast. He usually only wakes up once between 3-4 am then will sleep till 7-8 am.

HI Pinkroses,

Me having the same problem as you. Baby girl sometimes sleeps like a log, sometimes fusses and cries and keeps wanting to be carried all the time. Stressed! Me and MIL take turns looking after her in the day, and hubby takes over when he gets back at night. But tonight, she keeps fussing. I think her tummy not good, cause of the constipation and gas...me hear her cry until me feel like crying when i see her suffer like that...

Re:- FM
BTm mummies, recently my girl doesn't finish her FM. last week we have been feeding her about 130ml and usually up to the last 20-30ml, we really have to make her finish the milk, cause she always falls asleep and refuses to drink the remainder, but later will demand for her next feed earlier cause she is hungry faster. sometimes she finishes 130ml no problem, sometimes only drink 80 or 100ml. How?? how do you keep your babies awake while feeding? any suggestions on how to 'make' her finish her milk?

hi mummytobe,

i stroke his cheek sometimes even pinch lightly, move his hands n legs... or try sitting him up for a burp, check/change his diaper, wipe his face w towel/cotton pad dampened w normal tap water... but if he still sleeps thru all these then just let him be... u can keep the milk warm in warmer or hot water for some time...

hi all,

How many pieces of diapers did you change per night? Don't know why my boy recently need to change 3 pcs. Each pc last about 3-4 hrs only. (last time he can last for about 5-6 hrs)Now almost every feed need to change diaper. Else before the next feeding he will wake up and cried for changed diaper coz too wet and the diaper is v v heavy. That's without poo poo. I am using Pampers premium s size. Or it is just normal?

Hmm...
Wondering when will it be my turn to fuss about breastfeeding and diapers changing like you all. Can't wait for baby to come out. Wondering when.
Gynae says my cervic slightly opened already yesterday during the visit. Does that mean anytime soon?

tingting, understand that u're on tbf. Need your advise on this, do you plan and express and bottle feed bm anytime soon? When is a good time to do so, so as to avoid nipple confusion?

Any mummies planning to switch from nipples to bottles (bm)? i wanna go out after confinement but cannot imagine having to find a nursing room every 2 hours. Dun want to get my girl too used to bottle oso.. Any advice?

cmy, i need to change my gal's nappy every 3-4hours too, esp after feed. Read from a bb handbook that it is recommended to change at least once every 3-4 hours to prevent diaper rash..so its a good thing oso

hi christina,

me read that should only give bb bottle from 4-6 wks onwards, but advise to still latch on as much as possible.
i'm also on TBF, and planning to give bottle only fr wk 4 or even later depending on situation.
btw, u can go to this website http://www.breastfeeding.org.sg/ and call/email if you've queries on BF. They are rather fast in replying my email queries.

hi cookies, thanks for the tips! Looks like i wun have much freedom for the 1st 2 months..im oredi thinking of fixing appointments w my dermatologist, gym, facial and spa! I need a good back scrub, i think my pores are all blocked by the daily herbal yucky bath.

cookies, does ur bb fuss sometimes? I suspect Chloe is getting colicky..gosh she screams like a clockwork from 8-12am everynight..my nipple became her pacifier eventually.. im pretty surprised cuz i thought tbf bbs less chance of colic *sigh*

Hi all,

I am also wondering when to introduce my bb to the bottle. Am thinking of doing it after his first month. So far, I have not been expressing and he has been latching on all the time. Partially, also due to a spoilt pump so I need to go buy one before I can express.

Talking about diapers...not sure if my son is particularly fussy or what. But each time before he eats, he soils his diapers and would thus need to be changed. Then sometimes whilst eating, he would poo again and would keep on crying till he is changed. THEN after he finishes eating, he poos again so once again ...change diaper. Do any of you encounter the same problem? Think would need to invest in nappy liners soon cos he can use up to 10-12 diapers per day!

Am currently using Pampers....Do you all have any other good brands to recommend? How is Mamy Poko???

So glad for a forum like this...

Bought the Huggies! So excited... Can't wait to graduate baby from Petpet "S" size to Huggies "M" size!
sigh, can't bear to buy anything for myself.. buying diapers is now my excuse to go shopping!! heh heh..

Hi all... saw this qstn in the Breastfeeding Mothers Support Group website... it's hilarious!
"I wonder if I can go swimming? I am afraid that the chlorine in pool water may contaminate my breastmilk."
Why doesn't she think how come chlorine doesn't dilute our blood when we're in the pool... *duh*

New brand of diaper: Drypro... anyone heard of it/ seen it in supermarket? I can get M-84 at $13.50 (UP $14.90). My friend said it's better than Drypers...
If interested, I can consolidate orders, minimum 6 packs for dlvry. Punggol & Sengkang area.

allergies?! no lah. We prefer Petpet to Drypers coz of the elastic waistband at the back. Cheaper too, so less heart-pain when changing often, like during the poo episodes that u described. Anyway our baby had 1 bout of diaper rash liao, so we're more inclined to change often.

wendyg: haha... ya damn funny abt the chlorine part man.. okie.. u have to admit that some ppl are just not so smart...

seabreeze: where are u?!~~~

cmy - yeah, i change my bb nappies every 3-4 hours too. If delay till 5-6 hours, the nappy will be too too heavy, wet and disgusting.

hi ladies ...

havent been logging on for very long ....

bb was discharged from hospfrom jaundice on monday ... so been 'catching' up with him these days ....

re: pumping of milk

when is a good time to pump milk to store? been latching on my bb all the time except for some feed which I miss like doing the massage ect ...

anyway me gave up on the manual pump and bought the ameda pump ... the pump is not too bad and not v noisy ...

adel ...

trying to get use to my boi ... now me n my mum know his pattern already heehee ... guess things should only get better ....

ok bb crying liao .. its feeding time ...

sweetpea - i used mamy poko in my bb first mth cos its very long lasting.. my bb can wear for 6 hours.. But now i using drypers so can only last 3-4 hours. I guess mamy poko more expensive so better absorbency. Since yr bb poo so much, i suggest u don't buy mamy poko. Buy some cheap one that can change very often so u don't feel heart pain.

hi christina,
how old is yr girl now?
my Ern Ray doesn't make any noise thou he also keeps awake from evening till nite. hope he maintains at this.

sweetpea, we also change Ern Ray's diaper like nobody's biz. He's quite similar to yr son, can poo b4 feed, change diaper, then poo again during feed. we r using nepia now and hv bought a fitti newborn. will be using drpers S later on. as he changes too often, do not wan 2 invest in too x diapers.

Hi wendyg, i am from other mtb, just wanna to check with you if petpet S size too big for new born as i understand they do not have newborn range. thanks in advance

hi chris,

i'm latching bb almost exclusively, but bcos he's always fussing during feeding times, making both of us v fustrated, am thinking of expressing n feeding him via bottle. try introducing bottle bet 4-6 weeks, but start gradually like one feed per day, then increase gradually.

Hi all mummies

Has anyone of u taken medication to increase yr milk ss? I went to see Doris Fok, lactation consultant, last night and she recommended that i take Domperidone tablet. Apparently, can increase ss by 25% or 50% depending on dosage.

Hi wendy,

Thanks. Think might give Petpet a try then. Too expensive and wasted to keep using pampers when bb Matthew needs to be changed so often.

So far, bb have been latching on all the time so have not been expressing. And also cos the pump i bought is faulty
sad.gif
Any recommendations on a good electric pump?

Hi seabreeze, hope ur bb is better now
happy.gif

Btw...do any of u have a dog at home?

pochacco
my bb didnt use petpet fr newborn wor. yeah i think "S" size is a lil too large for newborn.

sweetpea
Ting2 has a lil doggie..

sweetpea n adel ...

thanks ... we are monitoring to make sure that he is not too yellow ... bought this flower thingy from the medical hall and bath him with it almost everyday ....

sweetpea ...

me got the ameda dual electic pump when my bb was in the hospital ... find that its quite good ... quite a few mothers here are using it ...

my bb oso poo after every feed ... luckily my mum is quite pro nappy ... so we just keep changing for him lor ... just that the nappy liner can be quite siong heehee ....

btw to save nappy liner ... my mum actually washes the liner (those that he pee on only) and recycle them ... but think need alot of effort ar ...

re: 5 in 1 Jabs

mothers who have brought your bb for the jab .. isit better to go back to the PD or the poly clinic is fine? My PD is charging $550 for the whole package up to bb 18th mth ... seem like poly clinic is charging the 5 in 1 jab for $295 only ...

hi seabreeze, if not mistaken poly doesn't include chicken pox. You might check it out? My PD is charging me $460 for the whole package.

hi,

I have a maltese..small but then very active so it is a handful coping with both bb Matthew and dog. On the one hand, am afraid dog will feel neglected but yet on the other..am afraid bb will start developing allergies or something.

Now , because of the confinement lady, my hubby sleeps with the dog in the other room but then i am not sure what will happen after this first month when hubby sleeps in our room again. Cos dog is so used to sleeping with us. But now cos of bb, I am a little hesitant of letting him into the room. Dunno how also...

Cookies and tingting: how do u both cope???

Thanks Seabreeze: maybe i will try the ameda dual pump as well. thanks

sweetpea,
I've read from somewhere... having a pet at home improves the health of the young ones... meaning they don't fall sick easily... dunno if it's true...

hi cakey, My PD is Dr Oii Boo Chye (Ooi Baby & Child Clinic). I felt that he's nice. Very patient and details on every query. Not like previouly my gynae refer me to TMC 3rd floor AAT. Personally, i felt like she just want to earn $$$...

hi sweetpea,

its definitely not easy 2 cope with both dog n baby. my golden used to sleep in our room, but ever since i'm pregnant, we trained her not to enter any rooms, n she's used 2 it now.

the problem now is his loud barking when strangers at e door n e 24/7 shedding of fur. i do hope its true e my boy can get inmure to e fur.

u may wan 2 start training yr doggie too.

hi CMY,
same as u, was refer 2 e same PD.. she's like rushing for time, slip short consultation. anyway, we've changed PD too, cos feels that she's for $ only, n welfare of our baby.

cookies: how lucky... my hb refuses to let our dogs sleep outside the rooms... sigh.. gotta train my hb rather the dogs i think. u are lucky ah.. got one golden.. i have got 2 goldens!! imagine the amt of fur everyday.. haha...

hi chris, let me know if u have any soln to solving baby's fussing problem ok? cos that's my only obstacle in breastfeeding but it's causing us a lot of unhappiness.

Anyone has recommendation on a lactation consultant?

i need milk, can pass me your LC contact? ([email protected])

re: dogs
mine is a shih tzu. she's also quite an active dog, but doesn't demand us to bring her for walks... pretty contented to run around the house (mine's 5-rm hdb). eh, we actually let her sleep with us on the bed. baby sleeps in his cot. we only bring him to our bed during night feeds. initially, doggie was v excited abt baby n kept wanting to sniff n lick him, but we restrain her n only allowed her to sniff fr a short distance, hb hold doggie n i hold baby. After 3 weeks, doggie used to baby already, n even slept thru baby's wailings. My dog's pretty settled w the new addition, i think it's bcos we still make an attempt to shower her w attention, like petting her when we pass by her, calling her to follow us when we go around the house, or spending 5 min playing w her. When i feed on the sofa, she'll even curl herself up next to us..
happy.gif
my parents n non dog owners will freak out if they hear of this, but so long as one adult is around, it's safe to let them get close. of course, u have to guage ur dog's temperament first.

my dog doesn't shed much fur, and read somewhere that if baby's are exposed to dogs at young age, they are less likely to develop allergies to dog fur.

hi all,

Can check with you all regarding BCG? My boy is abt 3 weeks old. PD said that there will be pulse in the BCG during the 4 week and then it will turn into a lump. Will this process cause pain to the baby?
Will the baby has slight fever and cried most of the time?

For those who has been through, any idea?
Thanks!

eileen, haha, no lah, woke up to express milk lor.. cos boy now sleeps longer at night.

re: BCG
thanks for posting this nicole! i was wondering how come there's a pimple at my boy's butt... :p it has now hardened. he did not develop fever, but dunno whether pain or not, cos my boy did become more tearful around that time, n still is (7 weeks old now).

nicole/ ting2
my boy's BCG was done in hospital before discharge. The lump now no more.. i think just a scar - can't remember. He wasn't bothered by it. No fever, no crying.
