HI Triniti,
Wow! you get 750ml of EBM per pumping session?? that's amazing! or is it 750ml per day? wah, if 750ml per session, that means you get 4litres a day? *jaw drop*
Hi Alabone,
If its one thing i've learnt in this first month of being a mummy, that's to express your BM regularly. I used to have to express every 4 hours, if not engorgement. Twice, i slept through the night (hence about six, seven hours passed twice without expression) i had breast infection both times with fever up to 39.6degrees. Gynae says it was early stages of mastitis. Trust me, the feeling is horrible!! i think, although difficult, its easier to wake up in the middle of the night to pump once, rather than suffer engorgement, fever, mastitis. When you have breast infection, BM supply will go down. Each time after i have a breast infection, BM supply will go down by about half. Then must struggle and start all the way again to build up supply. The key is, the more you express, the more you will produce. Just remember to pump till 'dry'. I read somewhere that 'dry' means that when you see no more milk coming out, still continue to pump 2-3mins more. Me in the last week of my confinement month. On my good days, i can express about 1-1.2 litre of BM haha feel like a cow! On lazy, stressful days, will be about 750-800ml a day. Oh btw, did you know that cows can get mastitis too? so must remember to massage and remove blocked ducts before/while pumping.
Hi Tingting,
Can still call me mummytobe hehe i just changed the nick cause i'm now a mummy! kekeke but my username is still mummytobe
Hi Aidanee,
So lucky! if i could, i would ask my CL to stay one more week too..but she got another booking, so can't..sigh
Hi Sunny,
I stayed at TMC level 5 for 4 nights. here's my experience with TMC during my stay.
1) how helpful is the nurse?
- the midwives, nurses and sisters are very helpful. Wonderful in fact! They check on you all the time, and everytime you press the buzzer, they are there almost immediately. Also, when i was having sore nipples, engorgement problems, i mentioned to one of the nurses there. She helped me checked my breasts, then called the lactation consultant to come down and pay me a visit. Which ever nurse was on duty that day, also came by each day to ask me about my engorgement and offer advice, help etc. i also had visits by two different lactation consultant. Of which if you were to see separetly after you discharge from hospital, i think you need to pay $42 per consultation.
2) do they try to accomodate your request e.g. bring the bb more often to you etc?
Yes, you just have to request. For extra items you need, like extra disposable panty, extra pad etc. of course they will charge you for it lah..but i must say, their bill is very detailed and concise.
If you are breast feeding your baby, they will push baby to you whenever she or he is hungry, even if its in the middle of the night. If you don't want to be disturbed at night, then opt for partial BF, where you BF only in the day, and they feed your baby FM at night.
I only had colustrum the first two days, and i had sore nipples cause baby wasn't latching properly. I pumped out whatever colustrum i had and asked the nursery nurses to feed my baby. When engorgement and transitional milk set in, i loaned the Medela Lactina pump (hospital grade) from them to pump, and whatever milk i pumped,my hubby just passed to the midwives and they fed my baby.
there are 2 visiting hour periods for baby. If i remb correctly its 10-1, and 2 to 5? not sure, can't remb. anyway, during visiting time, they will push baby to your room.
3) overall services?
I must say the hospital food choice selection at TMC is quite good! There is a wide variety of meals to choose from. Also, their hot piping soup very good for BM production, i think. I only drank the papaya fish soup twice at TMC, then so far until now no problem with milk supply, yet heh
If you need any more info, just ask us. There are quite a few of us who gave birth here at TMC
