(2003) Calling all 2003 babies

hey ladies
talking abt weight, moi put on some during the sch hols! ate like a pig in msia, then the occasional brunches, and now, stuffing myself with dumplings, just couldn't resist them, very yummy ones hand made by my MIL u know heehee

hi ky
abt the play area, half of my living room is dedicated to mel, it basically has some bookshelves, an easel, a 'clothesline' to display crafts/theme for the term( i follow what the sch does), the wall space is for art pieces, i also have a big calendar with detachable dates and some charts. Toys are stored in huge plastic containers. It's basically set up for her to be able to access anything she needs easily. Hope u get the general picture.

Hi Moshi2,
Where did you get the "clothesline" to display crafts ? I am hoping to display aston's craftworks made at school. It will be nice and tidy to display rather putting them on the rack.

I love dumplings also and ate quite alot last few days. Been eating quite alot these days and guess wat, I gain 3.7kg in the last two weeks. I got a shock ! But DH was so happy cos he thinks our boys will gain as much ! NO wonder I feel so heavy these days. Counting down to 4 weeks to deliver.

Hi Serenade!

I will always remember Kit Chan in our school's production of the "king and i" and "the sound of music". I can't remember if she did the song "You Light up My Life". But I did a young, shy and timid Sec 1 girl then, she sang "You Light up My Life" and everybody then thought she would be a star one day. And indeed, she is. Do you remember Emma Yong?

Anyway, whenever I think of Kit Chan, I always think of our old school concert days. Concert has always been a big thing in our school, hasn't it?

All you dumplings eating mommies...

I can't stand you women... Just go on and enjoy your dumplings and forget to DHL me some here...

I craaaavve for dumplings too!!!! Now you got me all salivating the whole day, week...)

Oh no... talking about weight. I think I'll absolutely gain weight by merely listening to my craving for dumplings. Sigh... still cannot get rid of my pregnancy weight after K. I always blame her for drinking so little bm off me.

mommies,

Passed by Choa Chu Kang park just now when i took a bus from zoo to CCK interchange. I want to visit the park .. but can anyone tell me is early morning a better time or evening ? I mean, is there a timing where the playground is shaded ? Is the park a friendly place for cycling ? did a search on internet says that the park is friendly for all sorts of stuff.

TIA

Hi Sherlyn,
I don really go to many parks but personally I like West coast park cos it's big and our 03 kids can play almost all the facilities there. I kept thinking going back there after 1st visit

Apricot, don't worry your twins will look like Aston. It's in the genes!

Worry mum & sarah, my huge PUB bill is largely due to my American size fridge and dryer. My air-con is on for 1 hour every night.

KY, dryer needs 1 hour to completely dry the clothes. That's why high PUB bill! 30mins only if you have few clothes.

Serenade & Pris, is tuina good? I heard about it but don't know what's the benefits. Also, can't meet this Friday. My girl has not recover from her fever yet. Need to monitor her fever. Was on leave for the past 2 days. Will try to join you gals in July instead.

Sherlyn, now that you mention, I didn't even know there's a park in Choa Chu Kang. If it's good let me know where.

By the way, there's a nice restuarant in Labrador park. I buy my girlfriend dinner there to celebrate her birthday.

I wonder if Pris knows how to make dumplings? I think can share her recipe. Moshi, so envy you. Actually, having MIL is quite nice. There are advantages too. Don't know why my girlfriend keep complaining about having one.

Serena...I am a lazy mum, I did not make dumplings and most of the time if I do, I am helping my mum and aunts make them. And I helped in eating too haahaa. But I will definitely want to learn it before it is lost. I think the wrapping of it is an art and it is not easy to master, I used to help in putting in all ingredients and my mum and aunt tie them to the strings

I was just telling my dh that I think I should ask my mum and aunts to teach me from scratch before the art of making dumpling is lost just like alot of my grandma's kueh-kueh and her Nonya kaya.

KY...those mummies are great, I do not have the stamina to keep my blog as updated as they do.

Serena...about Tuina, I find that it works for Kai and sports also make his immunity up. Planning to send him for rock climbing course if they take him, he tried and he likes it.

Sarah...wonton soup - I made chicken broth, yellow soya bean and alittle ikan bilis. It is not as tasty as the one selling outside as they have added MSG and also there is a wonton soup base on sale in supermarket.

Hi moshi2 and Sarah!

Did you have to register beforehand for the fire station visit?

Will you be keen to check out the fire station again when we are back? We can make it a date for early Saturday morning instead and then end off with lunch some where.

Errm, does it have to be in Seng Kang though? Any central locations?

Serenade,

on or not?

Hi Sarah!

Still can't quite understand what you mean by "edit" button.

Does it appear together with your published post on the blog itself with a pencil icon? That should be normal.

Or is it the next screen that appears after you pushed the publish button? And then it has several options like "edit post", "create new post" or "view blog in another window" etc. That should also be normal.

In any case, I don't see any drafts you missed publishing.

Hmmm, maybe you can show me the next time we meet.

Hi apricot!

Love the West Coast Park too!

Will definitely try to bring the kids down this time, since we'll be staying in the West, and it's really not that far from Dover.

HI Sherlyn!

Saw the CCK park from the outside too, like you. Think I must have driven past it before.

Check it out and let us all know what we can do there.

Btw, I didn't see any panda eyes leh... Nice shot, Jing An! ;)

Pickpocket Syndicate at Vivocity
... Copied from other forum ...

When you go to Vivocity swimming pool. Be very careful with your belongings especially when we are with young children.

This is a real case and please forward to your friends! Especially women with young children. These pickpockets are watching you while you are watching over your kid.

Yesterday, I was going up an escalator to the pool level with my 2 year old kid and my handphone just got pickpocket by 3 Filippinos. What these 3 persons did was surround me (Behind, front and side) And if happened so fast that you do not realised it! When I realised it, it was already too late.

Just want to warn all of you to be careful of your belongings whilst at the busy shopping mall of VIvocity. The shopping mall is so big that it took me 10 min to run to the nearest information counter to get help. I cannot find any security guard around the pool area. This is already under the police case.

The police suspected that this is a pickpocket syndicate as it is not the first time this thing happened at VivoCity. They are targeting especially to mothers are that are with young children. Also, police warned us to inform our friends not to leave your belonging aound the pool area at Level 3. This is the most "attractive" place to the pickpocket as they know that people will be busy taking care of their children at the pool and leave their things around. They are usually in a group and is not that difficult to identify.

Please be very careful when they are some Filippinos following behind you. 2 out of 3 Filppinos are quite easily identified as per my husband and maid description. The man is in gold hair, strong build (1.8M) and wearing BIG earrings. He is the one that stand next to me. The other woman that took the handphone is shoulder length hair, fat, short (155cm), looks old. According to my maid that she looked ugly and fat face so is quite easily identified among Filippinos. The other one is standing in front so no one is able to see her face.

The police teach us that if we found that someone is following us or following behind our partners. We should immediately call out partners names to "alert" that there are people watching us.

Hope this thing won't happened to anyone of you.

Finally met the 'French'., serenade and family la! we had a good meal and the kids had fun playing running out to the cars just outside the restaurant. They got along pretty well i must say, and cheryl didn;t feel a least bit left out, she climbed on every car that the big kids are on, and was smiling all the time. such a darling!

Serenade
Really nice meeting u! hey, ur dh is good looking, hm... do all pilots have that charming smile?? keke

hi ky
thanks for the warning on viviocity, good thing i don't frequent the place.

hi k's mom
no la, girls are not off from sch on any fri, i meant after sch hours, mel's sch ends at 1130am and hannah 11am (am i right, sarah?)

i can meet on sunday mornings but i know u have to attend service, hence this suggestion.

fire stations are opened every sat from 9 to 11am, went to the SK one cos' it's big and new, check out the one nearest to u. details avail. online.
go early at 9am, and if there is a big group, u get a good tour from the sergeant. rem to ask for helmets and dress kids in red/white for photos.

hi apricot,
my 'clothesline' is just a string tied to furniture and art pieces are pegged on using clothes pegs. U can find some corner in ur home to do that.

Moshi,
Hee..I agree with you on Serenade's hubby a good looking chap.
happy.gif

Yup, Hannah's sch ends at 11am. Seems like most cannot make it on Jul 7.

Hi Ky,
Thanks for the message above. We have totally let our guard down these few weeks, especially with the kids around. Shall take heed and be more alert.

Hi Moshimoshi & Sarah,
Nice meeting you gals too! And your gals are simply friendly and lovely! Can see that they have formed a strong bond with each other. Hopefully it's not too late for my kids to join in
happy.gif
And Sarah, so sorry abt the finger accident. Please let Hannah know that Brandon is really sorry about it. Hubby good looking? Hmm, thought I'm the pretty one :p Oh well, I am used to friends telling me that he looks like this or that actor.
yawn.gif
still ok lah...

Hi Kristin's mom,
You mean you sang on stage too? A bit confused leh... Actually, we used to have strict curfews. So, only attended the concert once and Kit's singing was the most memorable performance till now. Emma Yong? Not that I can recall. Do you remember the teachers? Mrs Xia (I think so), the discipline mistress? I shuddered every time I saw her. There was once she told us off for shouting across the parade square. But friends who were taught by her said she's actually a nice person despite fierce looking. Mrs Leow (or is it Seow) - Upper Sec Maths Teacher? Saw her few years back and she had a hysterectomy . She's one of the teachers I like best. And Mrs Ting (or Ding), Literature teacher? She was my classmate's mom. And Principal Carmee Lim's daughter was from my batch too. Do you still remember the male PE teachers? Heehee, some of them were so macho... Funny thing, I don't seem to be able to recall any of the Chinese teachers :p. Then there was a male physics teacher who was good looking too but rather short... Hey, share something shocking with you - Remember those girls that gave commands for the Morning Assembly? Hehe, I did that once. Can still recall how fast my heart was pounding then... Yup, I was with the uniform group, NCC.

KY, how do I access your blog? You didn't leave address behind.

Serenade, didn't know you have a French husband. Aren't they supposed to be very romantic? Your kids must also look very pretty!

Hi Kristin's mom,
On lah! Let's visit the fire station & Airforce Museum together. My hubby might not be able to give a talk on the airplanes but I think the kids will enjoy monkeying around instead of listening to talks :p

Might not be able to join you gals for lunch on weekdays cos Brandon is in the pm session. But I can certainly join in the after-lunch activities
happy.gif

Hi Serena,
Frankly, I know nothing abt tuina. But my good friend highly recommends it. To me, it's a good way to bond with the kids too, massaging them and making them feel good. Cheryl seems to enjoy it more than Brandon. He kept complaining abt pains, as if I was hurting him real bad.
sad.gif

Hi Serena,
Huh, I'll think twice abt a french husband
happy.gif
No, mine is a true blue local breed - Singaporean Chinese. My kids, haha, both Sarah and moshimoshi said they look more like me than him... Hey Sarah & Moshimoshi, I take it they look as pretty as the mommy, hehe
happy.gif

Hi Sarah & Moshimoshi,
You should meet kristin's mom's hubby. He's a great charmer, a great guy to talk with. Not a moment of dullness. Don't you agree, Kristins' mom?

Sorry Serenade, must have mis-read the message. Don't mind. I'm sure you must be the pretty one. Usually mummies don't like their children to look like their father. I'm one of them. Ha... Alas, my girl looked like the daddy. Sigh!

I don't mind to join you gals for lunch too but without my girl. Just me.

Kristin mom, if you're always travelling, how do you cope with the kid's school. You do home-schooling or what?

By the way, Serenade is that your real name? Sound like mine. I'm so straight forward, never thought of using nickname to register.

Hi Serenade!

Didn't think my dh is a charmer... haha! But I think he'll be pleased to hear the compliment. Thank you!

He used to look alot better without his thick glasses. When he returned to Sg after his studies, people in the hawker centres always spoke to him only in English. Coz he's always been mistaken as non-Chinese. Besides, his Chinese is really quite bad. SJI's standard, haha!

But now that he's allergic to contact lenses, he's back to his thick glasses... So no more a Michael Wong lookalike - at least no one says that anymore...
sad.gif
for him.

So... he's thinking of lasik now

Hi Serena!

I think I will be a very stressed out mom in Sg. Probably be jumping on the enrichment-class-bandwagon for the kids.

But over here, life is so laid back. And I'm complacent with my children's verbal development.

Bryan attends an American preschool. But it's summer now. So he only has summer camp. And it's nothing near academic programme. More of a play.

We've been travelling alot recently mainly coz of school hols or PHs. Loads of PHs during spring/summer time.

Over here... the lull period is always summer. After that, children will be back into routine. And the new school year starts in September. Subsequently, days get shorter, kids sleep longer... think hibernation.
happy.gif
Hopefully, we'll settle into some learning routine at home too. At the moment, it's a headache to homeschool the two of them. Kristin is always destroying materials or distracting us.

Also... frankly speaking, I haven't been doing much to keep up with the learning pace back home. Can't bear to pack them, and the truth be told, I'm just too lazy! I'd rather they run around and smell lavender in the summer and blow dandelions, then writing and doing additions...

Though I must admit, there are also days when I get very worried about reintegrating back to Sg system. I'll panic and teach them for a few days... then we'll take a long long break from learning... My dh, my mom, my friends keep reminding me not to push them at all. Besides, I really didn't know how to write until I was six...

Hi Sarah and Moshi2!

no business for Jul 7
sad.gif

Shall we just go for a meal/tea and hang out on a Friday afternoon, when Hannah and Mel are done with school??

Hi Ky,
Saw Ben's video clips. Hey, he's fabulous! Able to learn the moves pretty fast. I like the somersault most. Shshsh! I'm not going to show Brandon these clips yet... he will certainly go crazy and keep bugging me for gym class if I do...

Hi Serene,
In fact, my name is no where near my nick. My name is Vivian
happy.gif
Actually, I would prefer my kids to have our best features, hehe...

Hi kristin's mom,
If you intend to enrol your kids in enrichment classes, be sure to check with moshimoshi first. She gives very constructive advice on them.

"run around and smell lavender in the summer and blow dandelions" Wow!! Sounds like in a movie. I think this is great experience for your kids, Kristin's mom. Great to hear that it's normal not being able to write until 6. My girl has problem with writing still.

Hi Apricot and Kristin's mom,

Apricot : Missed replying you one the west coast park entry.

We like the west coast park too, cos the kids like playing with sand there, but it is rather inconvenient to go since the public transport there is not available in clementi.

Anyway there is a report on news just a few days ago that West Coast area has a high reading of dengue cases.

Actually Jul 2nd is a make up for the youth day on 1st jul, and my boy has no school, but we are gog bak to the il in msia. Maybe you guys can hv a gathering on that day ?

Serena...over in Canada, US and I think the European community, Summer is a long holiday break.

K's mum...Bryan's holiday started? Wow...I envy you travelling back to Singapore during the Summerbreak, how I wish I could meet all of you together too.

Over here, it has been rainy for the past week with only a day of Sunshine, not a fun summer yet compare to last year.

Serenade...look like you have settle back to life in Singapore. Seem like you are all set to send your children for enrichments.

Moshi & KY, half of my living room here in the apartment we stay are filled with toys for Kai and books for kai are in the bedroom and we read in the bedroom. And all the wall display kai's writing practised, art. Our Chinese learning new words, English I can read words, Maths concepts etc and some basic Science.

Hi Pris,
I'm sending my kids to 2 classes - Edudrama & Music at the moment, nothing academic related. Don't think I'll be sending them to any academic related enrichment classes. Not much faith in them. But most importantly, we don't want to stress them with the classes.

We wanted to join Kai up for Drum lesson but they do not offer for young children and piano lesson is like 15minutes for individual coaching at his age which I find it a waste.

Hi Kristin's mom,
Where have you been? Been waiting for you online but never see you leh. Going to send you my bills for panda eyes treatment soon...

Hi Serenade!

Sorry... the kids and I were invited to a birthday tea party in the afternoon. After that, dh whisked us off to Ikea for dinner and shopping, while Bryan tumbled in the playground.

Only got home at tenish...

Then dh and I tried to tease our brains a bit with suduko... just checking in right now...

sorry about the dark circles... errmmm, will dark chocolates help??? :p

Don't miss me too much, will be back next week already... then we can chit chat at an earthly hour.
happy.gif

Hi Pris!

School years in Bryan's preschool have always been short... like only 161 days! Even less than the standard observed by the state of virginia. So next year, the school has agreed to increase the no. of school days to 180.

Sigh... with this kind of standard, how to complete the curriculum on time??? So we all know where the American standard stands...

Yap... unfortunately, we've been very much on our own since end of May... school was already out then. Actually, summer camp started right after that week. But we were travelling. So I decided to keep him home for some weeks for me to rest too.

Hi Serena!

Yeah... My son cannot add for nuts. He still can't quite write, although he did surprise me a couple days ago on the whiteboard. He was writing letters he could think of, like L, M, N, X, K, T, U... notice they are all simple strokes. But I really do appreciate his effort. He just did it without me having to ask him to sit down and write. And without any guidance at all. It happened when I was cooking.
happy.gif

Yeah... I think I'll hear lots of kids in Sg do simple additions, but I take great pleasure listening to my son exclaim in excitement, "Look, Mom! It's dan-de-lion!" It's like he's found a treasure and he'll quickly scoot over and pick up the dandelion clock and blow!!!!
happy.gif
Cute, isn't it?

Kristin's been picking up buttercups and lawn daisies for me. To her, they are pretty flowers. Small enough for her to handle
happy.gif
Cute too, right?
