(2003) Calling all 2003 babies

Got to go now, preparing homeschooling materials.

Serenade, Congrats for getting your license.

Jo, how's first day of work? Hope you are enjoying your work. You have good ils to help you with the boys.

First day of work is fun after being SAHM for more than 4yrs. Last night, I was tossing in bed till 1am wondering what I would expect today. Had 2 cups of coffee before I left for work and ended up having to visit the ladies twice before my orientation.. hehe.. Had my 3rd during lunch time!

I'm very grateful that my ILs are able to pick up my kids and care for them till I'm back thou it's just for about half an hour.

When I reach my ILs place, Bs were shouting and jumping with joy. Felt so heart warming which we usually do not have as I was always there for them while staying home. Guess my decision to work is right... wish me more luck!!

Got to go.. Will post when I have the time. Goodnight!

Thanks everyone (with regards to my dh's case). He got appt for a review 2 weeks later, and he thinks its too late. So he would like to visit another specialist. Any recommendation?

Not sure if the new job will wait for him thou. Think its gog to take quite some time to heal .. I am still hopping for a Genting tour before he start work *sigh*.

Oh no show in the zoo ? I must tell my friend. Thanks ky.

Moshi, its so nice to be able to keep an eye on your own child officially hehehehe. How I wish i can attend lesson with my boy too.

ok gog for beauty sleep today.

Hi mommies,
Any highlights in Penang ? Hubby going there for a short two days biz trip next week. Just finding out for him in case he has some free time. Thanks.

hi pris
wow, kai wants to do jap? if mel asks for it, i would be like 'on lah'!!
but reality check, must do well in chinese first.

hi ky
i got the disney tix at the sistic counter, u are right, there's somewhat of a choice, i told the lady which row i want and she tried it on the system. hee, don;t need to guess, i got the cheapest tix , i just want her to have the experience of a live show at the indoor stadium. plus, she doesn;t know the characters like lilo stitch, peterpan etc so no need to sit too close to gawk la. haha
go get yours, should be fun! oh, mine's at night. naptime at 330pm.

hi meilan
relief teaching's also a full time job ;( and tons of worksheets to mark, actually a nightmare for my shoulders.
how abt yourself? part time writer? ;)

question:
plural form of 'enquiry' is 'enquiries' right????
i think i saw 'enquries' on the recruitment banner in mel's sch. horror of horrors, pl confirm, i must tell the P!!

Worry_mum ... me left with 3.30pm slot on fri, so I may see u there ... 7.30pm is too late for us ... by the time it finishes, it'll be almost 10plus when we reach home.

mummies ... have u have a budget on the monthly "educational" fees for your child. what's your budget like? I just tallied up everything official, like school & enrichment and it's just over $800 for 1 month ... pretty ex that I'm holding back anything that B fancy. btw, the latest updated I've got is the new english teacher is hitting some kids, so now waiting for the school to respond. She doesn't look the sort...

.ky.

hi moshimoshi,
agree it shld be enquiries and not enquries. could be typo error becos I often type enquries in my work.

hi ky,
Oh dear, I thot teachers are not supposed to hit children. Will be interested to know what happen. A was also not listening to teachers these few days and was scolded by teachers. As a result both are unhappy. A even told me he wanted to change to his old childcare and says the teachers there do not scold him. We explained to him if he's naughty & disobey instructions, all teachers will scold no matter where. Just hope he will understand & feel better today.

Hi all,

This thread is alive again! Great to hear from everybody!

Thanks for the congratulations. Chloe, it's my first try. Glad I made it. Moshimoshi, having a second car means I am going to be the chauffeur officially. Tough job. Sheryln, if you dare to take the risk, you're welcome anytime
happy.gif
My hubby was wondering how I made it :p

Hi ky,
No official budget for my kids. But if I've been too generous with the kids, my dh will step in.

Hi moshimoshi,
I was hoping to be a relief teacher in my choice school too. Last I heard from my sister, relief teaching is still manageable at ACS. Hmm, maybe I should try my luck too...

Hi Mummies,

Have been a silent reader past weeks. Busy wif CNY spring cleaning... CNY gatherings.. Think i've got the "festive depression". Work is hectic after CNY but i try to leave by 6pm and spend quality time with Z. He is down with phelghmy cough. too much goodies past weeks. sent him to PD yday morn. N he had slight fever when we reached MIL's place ard 12pm after PD's consultation. His fever got worst last nite and fever medicine in fridge has expired. So HB went to get from 7-11. thinking back, the nurse did not measure his temp. only weight. I called the clinic this morn and was told that parents need to inform nurse that kids having fever and they will measure their tempereature upon registration. so guess its my fault then.

Hi Moshi, how is Mel's handwriting? any improvement? Z's is improving after some coaching.

Hi Sherlyn, sorry to hear abt yr dh accident. hope he has a speedy recovery.

Hi Chloe, london.. awfully expensive place. last visited in Yr2000. a burger king meal cost SGD10+. happened to witness the change of guards @ "duno which" Palace. and the tulips and roses bloomed very nicely. remember to take more shoots..

Hi Apricot, how's yr 3 princes?

Hi Sarah, how's H?

Hi Jo, welcome to FTWM's club. It's difficult to balance multiple roles, just do your best.

Hi KY, I think mine is the cheapest! Only $455 per month including childcare and enrichment. I thought learning ladder is quite ex, so your $800 to me is like quite reasonable.

This also reminds me of my girl's teacher who kicked her. One parent suggested installing camera during class to prevent any misunderstanding between parents and teachers. Till today, nothing done is her school. The chinese teacher left and case closed. My girl is one of those who doesn't like to sit around and listen. She prefer to walk around and enjoy playing with boys.

Hi moo87,
Nice to hear from you !! Oh oh, did Z lose some chubby fats ?

My twin princes are recovering from flu which they got from daddy and A. They are 7mths old now and very very cute.

Apricot, there's no sales pitch from the staff at Sept 21. Think I was the one who couldn't resist. As for the chinese books that you mentioned, I saw it in the library. But it was always on loan or not avail in the full set. Who can I contact?

Pris, mathstart is really interesting. Like what Serenade says, the author build the math concept into the story. This will at least seems like a story book to the kids. Much like hiding vegetables in the kid's favourite food so that they won't detect it. I'll probably go get it next month. If you accumulate the receipts of $200, you get a discount of 10% on your next purchase. I think Kai should start level 3 of mathstart because of your background. He's probably very comfortable with numbers and math concepts by now.

Hi Chloe,
H remembers Amsterdam more than London, we were there same time. I guess its becoz of the places we visited and at friend's place most of the time. Yup, we drove out of London. Not sure about farm stays. Perhaps Cindy can help you.

Btw, are you going to let C take the RAK exam?

Apricot,
Thanks for the link. Giving it a miss, don't think H will appreciate it.

Hi Sarah,
I suppose you mean RAD exams. They are still too young right? She is only at the Pre-ballet stage now, and already some of her new classmates can't even catch up with the teacher.

Hi Moo,
Ha ha, you are so right. Yea, London is so expensive!!! But I think it should be worth bringing C to experience the castle, museums, london bus, change of guards etc.

Hi K's mom,
Where to get Time-out London with kids? Yeah, we'll take it slow & easy. I don't intend to jam pack the trip with programmes.

Hi Ky,
Think I only spent about $300 per month on C, half on school fee/bus and half on enrichment (ballet, berries, swim, yamaha).

moshi, the 4 months stay in Japan and having some playmates in Japan created the interest in him to pick up Japanese. And also our Japanese friend will be in town soon making him all the more determine to take a 3rd language Japanese.

Serenade, how much did you pay for the mathstart? Anywhere I can see a sample of mathstart?

Chloe, how did you include school fee, bus and enrichment to $300? You are amazing!

hi chloe ... thx for the video. still watching it. C is in PCF right? that's why it's $300+. think more goes into enrichment, coz Berries would be apprx $120...

hi Serena, tll is $500+... hubby gave me a choice 2 yrs ago. goes to an ex school and few enrichment or stay in a cheaper one and goes to more enrichments. so guess where I'm stuck at. we at cck quite stuck in that we don't have that many better schools to choose from. getting into a dilemma, but think B gave me some hope this afternoon ...

.ky.

Hi Pris/KY,
Oops blur me, i calculated for per week lah. Per month for enrichment class is already almost $500. Sorry, so it's more like $650 per month in total. For a moment i was wondering why so cheap in comparison ha ha!

Apricot, we will also using BetterChinese when we were in Vancouver. I am hoping to get some chinese story books from China and M'sia as my friend told me the standard of the chinese is much higher than Singapore chinese.

Chloe, for a moment, I was going to ask you teach me how to do that. At the moment, I am looking at enrichment courses for Kai - Swimming, Gym, Japanese, etc. Was wondering whether I should put music on hold first or to put him into one to one.

Sherlyn, will pray that your dh have a speedy recovery and that the company will take him. Accidents do happen when we least expect it.

Hey that means mine is still the cheapest since Chloe miscalculate. Ha.. anyway my girl only attend 1 enrichment, the rest goes to the school.

Ky, at least your hubby gave you a choice. Mine never gave me any choice!!

Hi Priscilla,
A's school is using Pearson Longman as Chinese readers and Edventure Rigby Literacy as English readers. All are readers and I have not exposed him with Chinese Storybooks. Will check with his Chinese teachers for feedback and share with you. Do share with us the chinese storybooks titles once you find out. I will be interested to know. Thanks.

Hi Chloe,
Thanks for sharing the video. I tear when he speaks with the screen on CT scan & when he mentioned liver and cancer, it reminded me of my late dad who passed away with lung cancer abt 19mths ago. That was also the yr I join this 2003 babies forum. Sorry, I am just so emotional..
Nevermind abt that, I totally agree and applaud with what he says.

Serena, care to share your calculation? Can I take a look at your mathstart?

K's mum, let me know when I can meet with your mum or dad at Boon Lay MRT station to pick up the book. Anytime after 3.30pm at their convenience but this thursday is out as I will have to go with my mum for her doctor review.

Apricot, Edventure Rigby Literacy English Readers looks interesting, which series are A using?

Do you happen to have a sample of the chinese reader? I was trying to look for it online but could not find.

Kai is using Longman Readers for English and Novum readers for Chinese.

I am thinking of getting Pelangi Readers under the Sunshine Series for Kai. Have been reading with him and he enjoys them.

Serena, saw a sample on Amazon for mathstart looks very interesting. I am tempted to get for Kai haahaa. Do you happen to know how many books are in each level? And the cost please. TIA.

moo87, wow your boy is very heavy, must be chubby too. My ds totally lost his babyfat already and he is just slightly over 18kg now.

Hi Pris,
About Mathstart, there are 21 books in each level. Sept 21 is selling at around $130 (can't remember the exact amount) for an entire set of 21 books.

Hi Pris!

I would suggest you keep Friday afternoon open then. That will give me enough time to contact my parents tomorrow.
How about Friday at 4pm at Boon Lay MRT Station Control? At least you will recognise the book.
happy.gif

This week's been a busy week for me. It's parents' work day at preschool tomorrow and there's a bake sale in K's class on Friday!

Am just so tired now...

Hi Pris ... thot drumming and rock climbing was also in the list too? what's your amt spend so far? how many enrichments does he have now? Good to expose him to wat you've listed, if you can afford.

I'm contemplating on sending him to chinese lessons again. He went to a house in Clementi last Apr but dropped out in Jul coz the schedule didn't suit us. The 3 kids that are still in the class are doing very well... from the initial push to get them to recognize 4 to 6 words each wk, they could easily recognize 8 words out of 10 each lesson. The teacher has some free slots now as her schedule for this year is more known, and so she's agreeable to come by my place on Wed, late afternoon to teach the kids. If anyone's keen to join, do pm me. Her charges are reasonable and her focus is on word recognition, as well as right brain activities. Her weekends are full for those who are keen to get her on weekends.

.ky.

Hi Chloe,
Oops, thats what I meant. H was previously taking bebe ballet with Crestar and 'graduated' last July. The teacher strongly encourage us to take the exam. I was hesitant and H doesn't want to bun up her hair, haha, good reason for me to pull out. Where is C's ballet sch?

Hey, like the rest, I was wondering how come yours so cheap, considering quite a few enrichments..
happy.gif

K's mum, Friday is good. I wait for your parents then. I pm you my hp in case, we did not find each other.

KY, drumming and rockclimbing is on the list. Ky keeps me info of the chinese class, maybe interested to let kai join. Ok, as we are still sourcing, I could not tell how much we are spending yet. In Vancouver, it was about C$200plus just for Gym and Swimming alone beside preschool.

What I have planned so far:
1. Music - drum/violin/piano - depending on which one is availabe for his age, he is very keen for drum so it is a must and violin or piano up to him too.

2. Swimming

3. Rockclimbing - looking for one that takes children his age

4. Japanese language - Looking for a creditable language centre

Speech and drama is within his kindergarten and he runs once to twice a week for fun now. I am not sure whatelse I will sign him up.

Hi Pris,

I think its his bone density.. consumed lots of red meat eg. beef during preggie due to low blood. his enfant pics are often in rounded profile.

Hi mummies

On monthly fees for ds. Think mine is cheapest. Ttl $180.60 per month comprising PCF 4hrs and enrichment class for keyboard. I am checking out drawing enrichment now.

Hi Sarah,
C is with Crestar as well. Her class 'graduated' from Bebe ballet to Pre-ballet only in Oct last year. I think this centre progresses slower than the one H attends. When new children join, they can't catch up & the teacher has to slow down. There're 15 children altogether, but I must say the teacher can control the big crowd very well.
C also doesn't like to tie/bun her hair. She only likes to clip cos less painful.

Hi Serenade,
I typically go back to Thomson Medical, Dr Eunice Chua from TLC. She's good, but usually there's a very long queue. If you do go, ask to be the first in the morning, or after lunch. The waiting time will be much shorter then.

Hi moo87,
Can let me know once you find out the drawing enrichment. We are near mah so maybe A & Z can attend together
happy.gif

Serenade, I go to Dr Kek Lay Phin in Mt E., one of the private clinic. Thanks for Joshua Agilan's number.

Was thinking of dropping by summernotes to find out about their 1 to 1 piano and 1 to 1 violin.

A rough calculation

Preschool $540 per term (10 weeks)
Transportation $110 per month
Piano (1 to 1) $120 per 4 sessions, going to teacher's house
Drum (1 to 1) not sure yet, will ask for the price soon
Violin (1 to 1) not sure yet, will check out
Swimming waiting for the quotation
Rockclimbing looking for the school
Japanese Language looking for the school and find out the cost
Speech and drama is in Kai's preschool curriculum

After I know about the rest then do calculate, deciding whether to let him play violin or piano haahaa.
