A Fabulous Family Getaway at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove (Review + Giveaway)

A month with no public holidays to look forward to seems like the perfect excuse for a staycation. So when W Singapore – Sentosa Cove kindly invited us to stay last weekend, we couldn’t say no. A Feb-ulous getaway to sunny Sentosa (okay, it did rain a little but we won’t complain) full of chill vibes. What’s not to love? We packed our swimsuits, sunnies, and sunscreen, and off we went!

By the way, we’ve got extra good news. Thanks to the generosity of W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, you have the chance to win a staycation too! A 1-night stay in a Fabulous Room, complete with breakfast for two adults and two kids is up for grabs. It’s just in time for the March school holidays, so read on to find out how you can win…

But First, Brunch

Check-in is officially at 3pm, but since we arrived early, we took the opportunity to experience Sunday brunch while waiting for our room to be ready. Sunday Brunchscape happens every Sunday from 12 noon to 3pm at the kitchen table. You can even order additional brunch items tableside to supplement the already extensive buffet spread.

We started picking from cheeses and charcuterie, salads and sushi, and fresh seafood. The flames over at the open kitchen’s almond wood-fired grill soon caught our attention, however. We highly recommend the (super fat) grilled scallops, charred broccolini, roasted prime rib, and tandoori whole salmon. The fresh garlic naan and butter chicken from the Indian station were pretty good too.

The a la minute selection includes the likes of BBQ Pulled Beef Waffle and W Purple Octo Dog. While we were tucking in, enjoying the live DJ music, and the view of yachts coming and going at the marina, staff came by proffering freshly made lamb sliders (so good!) and Moscow Mules (alcoholic…hic!), the latter only for adults, of course.

For the kids (and kids-at-heart), a dedicated corner serves up savouries and sweets that speak to the little ones’ hearts. There are also fun activities and a magician to keep them busy. Last but not least, the overflowing dessert section — doughnuts dipped in the chocolate fountain and croissant French toast at the live station won our hearts.

Fabulous Indulgences

Stuffed to the gills, we lumbered back to reception — after getting an SMS to say our room was ready. By the way, Marriott Bonvoy members enjoy perks, starting with a sure-win lucky dip at check-in. We won a set of travel-size versions of the MOMO spa toiletries in the rooms. If you’re not already a member, just sign up — it’s free. And you can also use the mobile app to text the concierge, order room service, and as a digital key. Super handy if you leave the room without your keycard.

Rooms and suites at W Singapore have fun names ranging from Wonderful to Extreme WOW. Our stay was in a Fabulous room, complete with a spacious balcony overlooking the pool and marina. And it indeed made a pretty fab first impression, with custom furnishings, fun lighting effects, and similar quirky touches found throughout the hotel.

The fully stocked minibar is chargeable, but you’ll also find complimentary bottles of water, TWG tea bags, and the hotel’s bespoke blend of coffee bags (with an accompanying French press). A peek into the spacious bathroom revealed separate shower and WC, as well as a large bathtub. Besides full-size pump bottles of MOMO shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel, there is also facial cleanser, body lotion, and a full complement of amenities, so you can pack light!

After that huge brunch, we couldn’t resist taking a moment to work off that food coma on the famous W bed. Which turned out to be a smart idea since it began to rain. We’re glad to report that the luxurious feather-top mattress and goose-down comforter combination certainly lives up to its reputation. This room category is large enough for two double beds, which you can request for when you bring the kiddos.

From Morning Yoga to Midnight Swim

If you didn’t know, the W brand is all about experiential wellness amid playful little indulgences. For example, you can sign up for sunrise yoga sessions at the lush W Lawn on weekends. The fully equipped FIT Gym is also open 24 hours a day. Since we didn’t make it for yoga, we decided to soak away the stresses of the week at AWAY® Spa.

Even if you choose not to pay for a spa treatment, in-house guests enjoy complimentary use of various facilities. These include a sauna, steam room, whirlpool, vitality pool, and experiential showers, with separate facilities for men and women. It was a super relaxing experience and we emerged feeling rejuvenated and ready to face a new work week.

The spa facilities may only be open to adults from 18 years, but that’s okay because the kids will enjoy the outdoor WET® Pool much, much more anyway. One of Singapore’s largest free-form resort pools, it offers 1,338 sqm worth of splashing good fun. There’s a kiddie pool and a waterslide, which is likely one of the longest outside of a water theme park too. Those on-trend oversized floaties are available as well.

While we took in more bubbles at the whirlpool next to the WET® Bar, the bartender came around offering frozen grapes on skewers. What a godsend on a sunny day! By the way, unlike most hotel pools which close after dark, this one is open 24/7. Which means, mums and dads, you can even have a romantic dip under the stars after the kids fall asleep!

Need more family fun activities? Play mini football on the W Lawn or challenge them to giant chess (near the towel counter). Or head over to Quayside Isle (literally next door) for a stroll down the boardwalk. Besides offering lots more food options, it’s also a great place to cycle, skate, or scoot with the family. You can also hop on a free Sentosa shuttle bus to get to other attractions on the rest of the island.

Package Perks at W

W Singapore – Sentosa Cove is currently offering the Happy Days stay package for families, where kids (12 years and under) dine free all day long. This includes kids’ meals at the kitchen table (when dining with an adult) and when ordering 24-hour room service. Just don’t tell the kids they can have free desserts from morning to night!

It’s also a great place to have a romantic babymoon sans passports. Enjoy spa treatments with the Wellness Escape, or pamper yourselves with Suite Temptations. No matter which you choose, these packages include daily breakfast at the kitchen table. Which, if you ask us, is worth half the room rate here.

Once again, it combines a la minute breakfast items with everything from the buffet. Besides hot stations serving up omelettes and noodle soups, the spread overflows to the premises of SKIRT (the hotel’s steakhouse). There, we found freshly made waffles, pancakes, and French toast, flanked by a seemingly endless line of toppings. Last but not least, create your own bloody mary (nude gin-and-tonics for the kids/teetotallers) to wash it all down!
