Beauty after Baby: 8 Easy Grooming Shortcuts for Busy Mums
Few things remain the same after you have given birth and become a mother. Your body is different, ‘mum brain’ has taken over, and all your attention is on your child. You survive only on essentials like the gummy, drool-y smiles of your little one. Then one day, you finally have the time to take a look at yourself in the mirror. And while you like what you see — you’re doing great as a mum! — you want to like more of what you see. Specifically, the physical bits, because those contribute to making you feel good about yourself too.
But you don’t want to spend too much time on this because let’s face it, there’s so much more to life now. That’s where this list, our little (and growing) black book of beauty hacks for busy mums, can help. Find out how you can imbibe your sunscreen, collagen boost, and gut health, and let a mirror tell you the perfect style and colour for your crowning glory. The best part? These blend easily into your current lifestyle, and won’t take too much time away from your little darling too.
Hydrate with a collagen boost
VÖOST Collagen Effervescent Vitamin Supplement Tablet
One of the best-tasting collagen supplements we’ve tried, these strawberry-flavoured effervescent tablets put the fun and the fizz into your skincare routine. With 500g of marine collagen and 100g of vitamin C, each tablet supports skin and connective tissue health, and helps fight free radicals in the body as well. Want to give your drink a glow up? Use chilled sparkling water, and add strawberry slices to turn it into a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up.
From $18.90 (per tube of 20 tablets) at Watsons, Guardian, Unity, Shopee, Lazada, and major retailers island wide.

Use science to improve your skin
E-beauty Beautify Me DNA test kit
Using your DNA to find the perfect products for your skin sounds like science fiction but it’s not. Singapore-based beauty platform e-beauty has developed a home-test kit that uses “Asian Screening Array (ASA) technology” to analyse your DNA and let you know exactly which skincare you should be using to achieve that perfect glass skin.
It’s easy to do: register and activate your kit online when you’ve received it, collect your saliva sample, and send it off to the lab using the pre-paid envelope. Ten to 15 days later, you’ll receive a detailed, customised DNA report, as well as product recommendations that you can purchase right from the e-beauty website.
From $198 (promotional price, U.P. $398) at e-beauty online.
Give your skin a collagen boost
Skinergy Collagen Shot
If your usual skincare doesn’t seem to be making a difference anymore, finding a solution may be as easy as taking a shot. A collagen shot, that is. Healthy skin starts from the cellular level, which is where Nuceuticals’ SkinergyTM Collagen Shot targets. Using only natural ingredients like optimised marine collagen, algae extract, and fern extract (which is the only ingredient known to protect the skin against UV rays) SkinergyTM Collagen Shot helps reduce wrinkles and boost skin moisture and suppleness in four weeks. And if that doesn’t impress you enough, how’s this for a wow-zer: the supplement also helps stimulate the body’s own collagen production, while replenishing it.
$150 (28 sachets) online and at clinics.
Let A.I. give you the shape you want

There’s probably a body part on you that you do not love as much as another, and would like to improve on. For that, there’s ONLY SKIN’s Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) Be beautiful below
If you had a natural childbirth you’ll have realised that breathing a baby out of your hooha changes it irrevocably. Furthermore, as you age and your oestrogen levels plummet, your skin loses elasticity and will sag everywhere — yes, including down there. The only way to return it to plump peachy Georgia O’Keeffe lusciousness is through labiaplasty, a plastic surgery procedure that involves the use of sharp implements where the sun seldom shines. If that thought has you instinctively crossing your legs you may want to consider rosebud vajuvenation.
Available at STRIP, this is a non-invasive procedure that uses Thermal O2 technology which combines radio frequency, gentle vacuum suction and mild heat energy to pamper your vulva back to its bouncy and plump self. Visible results can be achieved in just one session, but a course of eight followed by maintenance treatments once every two to three months is recommended for optimum results. Painful? Not at all. In fact, it’s been described as “very relaxing”!
$250 per session (first-time trial at $80). Find out more here.
Get the inner glow
Okay, so you do skincare religiously, go for regular facial sessions, and hydrate yourself all day long. Your skin is good. Did you know though, that there’s one more thing you can do to make your skin glow? That’s Bio-White, a two-in-one oral sunblock and sun brightening supplement. Created by Singapore owned K-beauty express facial chain, SkinGO!, this vegan-friendly formulation uses plant-based ingredients to help your skin glow from inside out. Just two capsules a day for 30 days is all it takes!
$115 at SkinGO! outlets islandwide, and online.
Find your ideal style and colour
U-Hair’s JìNG A.I. Mirrors
When it comes to changing your look, nothing beats an experienced stylist (like my U-designer Keith!) who can prescribe the perfect style for you. But it sure is fun to play around with a mirror that uses artificial intelligence to tell you what it thinks you need, as I discovered at U-Hair recently.
This Jurong Point salon is the first in Singapore to have the JìNG system implanted in its mirrors. The A.I. tool maps your facial structure and skin tone to offer personalised hairstyle and hair colour recommendations. All you have to do is scan a QR code, and upload a selfie, then wait for its analysis and recommendations.
And if you still can’t decide, there are over a thousand hairstyle ideas, including the most recent trends (like the ‘Lisa’, a nod to that Blackpink member’s iconic look), to browse. It’s fun to play around with, especially the hair colour section, which shows what you’d look like with differently-hued tresses.
U-Hair, #02-20F, Jurong Point Shopping Centre. Book your appointment here.
Beauty after Baby
If you’ve smoothed on that sheet mask only to whip it off when the baby cried for you, cancelled yet another facial appointment because of some last-minute kid crisis, or could never find the time for self-care, you are not alone. Hopefully, one or more of the beauty hacks above can help make you feel better about yourself, inside and out.
