Ocean Dreams at Singapore Oceanarium: A Glamping Adventure Under the Sea

What happens when the Oceanarium closes its doors to the public? For most, that’s the end of the day. But for Ocean Dreams participants, it’s only the beginning, as we discovered when we were invited to experience this overnight adventure where you explore the Oceanarium after hours, sleep in a spacious tent facing the iconic Open Ocean Habitat, and wake up to breakfast with the fishes.

Check-in & Briefing

We arrived in the late afternoon, just as the oceanarium was closing (early) at 4pm. Usually, it stays open until 7pm on weekdays and 9pm on weekends; this early closure was for the benefit of the Ocean Dreamers. It instantly made the experience feel more private, as if the whole place had been set aside just for us.

Check-in was smooth and fuss-free. We left our belongings with the staff (they’ll bring your luggage to your tent), and then gathered for a short briefing. The programme starts with a photo-taking session. This is included in the package, so you’ll get a keepsake snapshot of your adventure to bring home.

Guided Exploration & Mystery Game

With facilitators leading the way, we set off on our first guided exploration of the Oceanarium. Wandering through the galleries without the usual crowds felt surreal. You could really take your time at each display, asking questions and soaking in the details. To keep things fun, there was also a mystery game built into the tour. Complete it and you’ll score a little keepsake (kids in particular loved this part).

Dinner at Explorer’s Nook

After the tour, it was time for dinner at Explorer’s Nook. The buffet spread was hearty, with a mix of hot mains, salads, and desserts. We definitely overindulged a little, but that’s half the fun, knowing you’ve got a whole night ahead to unwind.

Exclusive After-hours Oceanarium Access

Then came the highlight: exclusive, after-hours access to the whole of Singapore Oceanarium. Only Ocean Dreams participants are allowed in, and with the early closing, the space felt almost otherworldly. The usual crowds were gone, leaving just soft blue light, the shimmer of water, and marine animals gliding past in near silence. Gentle ocean sounds played in the background, adding to the calm. This was our favourite part of the night — wandering at our own pace, with no distractions, just soaking in the experience.

Tent Experience at Ocean Dreams

Of course, the night isn’t complete without stepping into your glamping tent. The set-up was surprisingly comfortable, more like boutique camping than anything rustic. There’s a cosy living area where you can sit and look straight into the Open Ocean Habitat, and a separate sleeping area with cushioned beds for up to four adults. The lighting is warm and soft, there’s plenty of headroom, and even power sockets for charging your devices. Privacy panels are fitted too, so you can wind down in private when you want.

Inside, everything you need for a comfy night is thoughtfully provided: a cute axolotl cushion, travel pillow blanket, lamp, electric fan, towels, hair dryer, and a basket stocked with water, fruit juice, snacks, and cup noodles.

We loved sitting outside on the camping chairs, slurping noodles and watching the marine life drift by in the dimmed light. As night deepened, the animals slowed too, something you’d never notice during the day. It was strangely calming, almost like watching the ocean breathe.

And it’s not just about relaxing in the tent. There’s a DIY activity corner during self-exploration time, where little explorers (and big kids at heart) can make animal badges, colour in marine creatures, and try other fun crafts. To top it off, a take-home amenities pouch (eye mask, socks, earplugs for the light sleepers) makes sure your night is as comfy as it is memorable.

Winding Down & Overnight Stay

After a shower (yes, clean showers with full amenities, hairdryer included), it was time to truly relax. Inside the tent, you could just lie back and watch rays, groupers, and schools of fish move quietly through the water. Slowly, the glow of the tank and the rhythm of the ocean lulled us to sleep.

Ocean Dreams Morning Experience

The next morning, we woke to the scent of breakfast. You can bring your spread back to the tent to enjoy it while looking out at the ocean habitat — arguably one of the best breakfast views in Singapore.

After packing up, we headed for the animal support area. This behind-the-scenes tour was eye-opening. The specialists explained how they manage everything from water quality to nutrition and medical care.

We even got to watch a manta ray feeding session up close. Imagine seeing these gentle giants take in 4–5kg of krill in a single meal!

Our Verdict on Ocean Dreams

Ocean Dreams isn’t just a sleepover, it’s a whole new way to experience the Oceanarium. From exploring after hours without crowds, to glamping beside the Open Ocean Habitat, to watching marine life wake and rest in their own rhythms — it’s a night you’ll remember long after.

Whether you’re here with family, a partner, or even on your own, it’s the kind of adventure that turns an ordinary aquarium visit into something extraordinary. Kids will talk about it for weeks, parents will treasure the quiet moments, and everyone walks away with memories worth keeping.
