Have you let your child have the pleasure of reading Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs? Yes? He loved it, didn’t he? Well, your little one is going to be super thrilled when he knows that the storybook by Raymond Briggs has become a world-class theatre adaptation. With its popularity growing since the 1990s the tale has quickly become a holiday classic worldwide! Proudly presented by ABA Productions and Diva Productions, in association with Elite Productions (UK), the stage production of Father Christmas is coming to Singapore this November!
As Father Christmas always puts it, the show is set to make this festive season a Bloomin’ one for the entire family! Your little ones will get a sneak peek into how Father Christmas prepares for his biggest night of the year – Christmas Eve! This production will also reveal a quirkier side to everyone’s favourite Christmas icon through the unexpected situations jolly old St. Nicholas runs into!
From being held back at home by his pets, Cat and Dog, to getting his sleigh through the snow with his Reindeer, it will be a treat for the whole family to see how Father Christmas eventually gets round to delivering those oh so important presents! With so many children around the world, will he be able to deliver all the presents in time for Christmas morning?
Speaking of delivering presents, have you ever wondered how Father Christmas is so good at what he does? What are the challenges he faces on the night before the magical day of Christmas? In order to put those festive doubts of yours to rest, we caught up with Father Christmas himself to have all your burning questions answered. The jolly old fellow was more than happy to answer our quirky questions while staying in character!
How do you know where all the houses are? Do you use Google Maps?
I have a very good sense of direction and my trusted Reindeer has a very good memory, so between us we get to all of the houses around the world.
What do you do when a reindeer throws a tantrum and refuses to fly?
Rudolf is very good and he rarely throws a tantrum, unless he is hungry and then I feed him hot chocolate as he loves that drink. It keeps him warm and fills him up!
How do reindeer fly anyway? They don’t even have wings!
They have a special magic inside of their legs to make them run fast and then they run so fast, they take off, up, UP, into the sky!
We don’t have chimneys in Singapore. How will you come to give us our presents?
I can always find a way into the house even if you don’t have a chimney. Rudolf has magic to help me slip in and out again, very very quietly!
Have you ever lived in a HDB flat?
No, I don’t believe I have. But I have visited thousands of them in Singapore to deliver all of the Christmas presents to the very good boys and girls!
What music do you listen to when you are on the way to deliver presents in your sleigh?
Why, Jingle Bells, of course!
What’s the best Christmas present you have ever received?
I think it has to be a big long red scarf that a sweet lady knitted for my Reindeer Rudolf!
What are you getting your mother for Christmas this year?
My mum would like me to get her a new tea cosy to keep her pot of tea warm on the breakfast table. So I’ll just get her that then!
Do you think you should go on a diet?
What are you saying? Do you think I’m a bit on the tubby side?
What is the true meaning of Christmas?
Christmas is the time of giving and ‘good will to all men’. This means we should be happy and also think of others who are perhaps not as fortunate as others.
Well, there you have it – answers from Father Christmas himself! Now, are you ready to watch him on stage? If you are, here’s your chance to win yourself a set of four tickets to watch Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas at the Drama Theatre at School of The Arts (SOTA) with your family! The lucky winner also gets a Christmas goodie bag which will include storybooks, stationery and puzzles!
