What's next after HSG?

Hi all,

We've been TTC for 1 1/2 years. Had clomid for 4 cycles but still failed. Hubby's sperms test is normal. Went to do HSG and result is normal too.
What's next after HSG? Can't seem to find the reason of our problems. Appreciate forumers advice. Thanks.

Hi bakaholic,

I haven't see my gynae yet since the HSG. Doctor so busy, so need to queue and wait.

So, i need to check my hormone levels next? What else?

Am so afraid of pain. So "kancheong" during the HSG...hehe...

The hormone test need to do at 2 specific days but i can't remember.
If the hormones are normal, you might want to consider IUI. Otherwise, it's SO-iui or ivf.

Your gynae should advise you accordingly. If not, you should get a fertility specialist for better advice.
All the best!

hi try4baby,

Just to share with you about my experience. I have been seeing a gynae even before i got married. the lastest scan, my gynae told me i have polyp and some thick lining etc. I may have problem conceive naturally. As also, I have been TTC for 1yr and still no luck which then he say i should start seeing fertility/ivf dr . i almost devastated when he refer me to one. As i dont see any problem in me and my menses have always been so regular. After consideration i finally went a to fertility dr. He is quite accurate at identifying my problems. There is no polyp and thick lining problem. Because my previous gynae scan me during the wrong dates. So angry!!

Think back, I believe i made the right decision. i am actually suffering from endometriosis and it caused my womb environment very hostile. I just had my ops to remove this tissue last nov. Now trying to conceive naturally again.

I know many cases when women got pregnant with Clomid. So I decided to take it too.
I am getting ready to start Clomid 50mg today!
Kinda nervous, yet excited. Hope it will work on me too.

It was so painful when the Doc tried to insert the catheter into the cervix. She attempted two times before I called to stop. Feel like my lower body is tearing apart. we didn't even manage to insert the ink in. I have been anticipating for this test for so long so tat I can move on but this happened. I cried in the xray room. Too scare and angry with myself

Hi princess Leopard,

Yes I have tried pap smear before and I am ok with it. I also dun know y I felt so much pain during the hsg process till I Asked the doc to stop.

Have you done hsg before?

Hi twinkle

I did mine a couple of months ago in KK and l must say the doctor was composed and l had a very endearing nurse. She was holding my hands throughout the process. I could even feel the dye going in. My HSG cleared but on the other side l am not ovulating properly. Brace yourself and go for it l am sure you'll be able to pull through it. I was weeping when l went into the room. The catheter came out for me also when they inserted it in the first time and they changed it and that's when they managed to do it.

twinkle,

Yes, I done HSG before. I dun like the feeling of inserting the catheter and plus the injecting of the ink, but no choice got to be done. While the doctor is doing the procedure, 2 other nurses hold my legs. Not a good feeling, but I got another motherly nurse who hold my hand and talk to me, trying to distract me from what the doctor is doing.

So, will you try again?

Hi Glimmer,

For 2nd attempt, I could felt like the catheter went in deeper but i felt a 'tearing' sensation. Something like your open wound is tearing up. I cried before and after the process.May I know for your 2nd attempt, do they use the same kind of catheter?

Hi PrincessLeopard,

I had a nurse by my side and I was squeezing her arm very hard. I wouldn't open my legs widely as they are starting to cramp. At that time I was thinking if someone can tie my legs up! The doc said I am too tense up and suggest perhaps next time use anaesthetic.

I am very sad because without doing the HSG, I couldn't move on. started to wonder if there is any issues with my uterus or cervix since I felt so much pain.

twinkle,

So, its going to be a localise anaesthetic?
Perhaps you are too tensed up. The doctor keep telling me the more relax I am, the process will go smoother and lesser discomfort. But I also cannot help it cos its a private and sensitive area. The nurses had to use strength to keep my legs apart cos any discomfort I felt, I tend to close my legs.

No choice, dear. Still have to do it to ensure things are alright.

Hi PrincessLeopard,

I am not Sure Wat the doc will advise since the review is next week. I know die die also will have to do it but I blamed myself why I am so chicken feet. Tahan a bit more and it will be over. Now I am bleeding below too.

Hi Glimmer,

I have no idea if they tried to use different catheter. They didn't mention too.

I hope if I were to do second round, please knock me out completely!

Hi ladies

Twinkle, were you kept for observation after the procedure? I was kept for observation for 30 mins. Then the nurse gave me a 24 hrs emergency contact to call in the event of excessive bleeding. But l never bleed.
If you continue bleeding you must call the nurse/doctor to inform them?

Dear ladies

One advise is just relax. I never felt any pain be it the HSG or the IUI process. There is a weird sensation when the dye is injected but its tolerable.

I always tell myself the process is to help me so I can quickly have my bundle of joy and I will look away and think of my future bb whenever anything is being inserted. That way you will not be too tensed and caused your muscle to contract making insertion painful. Rem the gynaes are professionals and they do this daily, nothing to be shy about or to be scared of. Try not to think about it, focus on the wonderful part of conceiving

I conceived after one failed Clomid and one Clomid + IUI which worked, you can read my experience here http://lifeafterbfp.blogspot.sg/

Hi all the mummies to be here,
Happened to charm upon this thread. Jia you there. I went through the same tests as what you all did 2 years back. Went for 2 round of IUIs, and conceived my girl naturally in the month of taking break from doctors visits. Have positive faith and stay relax as much as your can, and all of us will be mother in one day.

Lil Olive, read your blog! Congrates! You be holding your little girl in weeks time! Enjoy the feeling while she is doing her stretching in your belly. hehe... Feeling excited for you.

Hi Princessleopard and Glimmer,

The bleeding has subsized. The colour looks dark, something like towards the end of the period. but I do feel a bit cramp though and also a bit of sensation when I peed. I am feeling much better today.I was not kept in observation because I did not complete the test. Not sure why I am experiencing bleeding and cramps even though no dye is injected.

Hi Lil Olive and Heatherwhite,

Thank you so much for your encouragement! I wish I could be tougher. Most likely I will request for another HSG test after the next AF, otherwise I cant move on. Hope the doc can sedate me this time.

Hi Piky,
I am not sure how long the ink will flow out as I didnt proceed with ink injection. Maybe the ladies here can advise?

Hi piky
I have no idea how long the ink took to flow out. But the procedure took about less than 20 mins for me.

Hi twinkle
Its good that the bleeding has subsided.Dont worry and go on with the next round of HSG. For all you might know you'll be one step closer to reaching your goal

Hi Twinkle,

Glad to hear that the bleeding had subsided. Be strong to go for the HSG after the next AF.

Hi Piky,

I am not sure how long the ink takes to flow out cos after the procedure, I was given a pad to standby for the ink and maybe slight bleeding. So, I did not really notice.

Hi sisters,
I have completed my hsg last month after the first failed attempt (due to too painful and tense). This time I popped two Panadol extra before the procedure. slight cramp on the same day that's all. I am thankful for all the encouragement here.
