Surrogacy

Hello...

I am not sure if this is a right topic to bring up.

I had my 1st ovarian cancer 4 years ago (removed my left ovary) and 2nd ovarian cancer 2 and a half years ago (removed right ovary, womb, uterus and cervic). However, just before my chemo 4 years ago, my husband and I had frozen 2 embryos.

Hence, now we are thinking of having a surrogacy. We really want kids.

Can anyone advise how and where should I seek help?

Thank you.

Hi, welcome to this forum,
fro my understding, one can adopt from MY, China and other countries, as for surrogacy, it is illegal in SG, i heard pp do it in Thailand, Cambodia via agency and etc.

Thank you for your reply... yes Singapore is illegal and it is a taboo topic?

Knowing that some couples do surrogacy and I would like to know how, where and what to do. Also the cost of it.

We had thought of adopting. However, it might not be our calling yet.. it takes a lot to take this step.

Really appreciate your reply to me.

Hi everyone

I am not from Singapore but we common issue. I can`t deliver a child due to my endo advanced stage. When I was 27 I did a lap and took some hormonal pills over 6 months. But the disease came back soon. Currently, I am 37 and I got married 3 years ago. But we can`t succeed with the baby. Our fertility specialist said that IVF is useless in my situation. My husband and I ready to have surrogacy. But we have a shortage of money. I have read somewhere that it is possible to receive surrogacy in Ukraine for around 30.000 euros. But I don’t know which clinic we should take. Maybe you have more information about the process there or you can advise another country for surrogacy.

Please, we extremely want to have a baby! I would like to hear any comments here regarding my issue.

Best wishes to everyone

Hello girls. I have certain envy for you. I have had many acquaintances who gave birth in a state clinic and everything went pretty well. I have a little more. I am one of those who cannot have children and I had to take the help of a surrogate mother. It’s obvious that in Ukraine https://adonis-ivf.com/surrogacy/ this is at the highest level, everything has passed, and it made me very happy, you are the main thing to consult your doctors and they will tell you everything.
Hello! Happy to hear that you had positive experience with them. We have started our surrogate journey with Adonis, but it was impossible working with them.Communication was very poor, we waited for months for a surrogate and we weren't given one. so we eventually decided to move to IVmed Family, they found us a surrogate in a month and their service and prices in general were much better than what adonis had to offer

Hi there! I think Ukraine is a pretty good country for doing surrogacy. Although the country is poor, but people are great there, very helpful and kind. We decided to go there for surrogacy too, after consideration all pros and cons of each clinic (we had like 4 on our list), we decided to turn to IVMED clinic and eventually we were very happy we did. Everything went good, our cordinator was always there for us, helped us with accommodation, doctor visits, transportation etc. The doctor was very professional too and had a really good English. We didn't have any problems with the exit process, but I think the requirements are different for every country (I'm ffrom Indonesia), so it'd be better to check that beforehand.

If you're still thinking about a clinic to start a surrogacy, I would def recommend checking on IVMed. Feel free to contact me, I would be happy to share your experience. Take care

Hi Melati,
I'm Singaporean and as surrogacy is prohibited here, I've been looking for a clinic in Ukraine to start surrogacy programme. Could you please share more details about your experince with Ivmed clinic? I've read some very positive reviews about them. How did you end up with them? Did you work with an agency or directly with a clinic? Thank you

hello! I have been with ivmed too. they have their own agency, created within the clinic, called Ivmed Family, we worked directly with them. we've contacted them online, they have a number of packages, very good prices. all included and many things covered. we've been looking into clinics for a long time, after adonis, what can I say, we are sorry that we haven't contacted ivmed family first...

Hello! In general, everything was good, the customer service was always on point, we never regret our decision to turn to them. The cordinators are very nice people there, always helped us, in IVMED they have even couple of cordinators who can speak Chinese (I think it might be important for you).
We didn't work with the agency, we contacted the clinic directly, but I know the clinic has it's own agency too.

Hi! Happy to find someone who aslo had a good experience with them. Have you already come back home? Or you are still going throuh the treatment process in IVMED. I am just curious, maybe we met before during our stays in Kiev :) When was the last time you've been in Ukraine? We were doing our programme in 2018-2019

It hasn't been that long for us, we came for birth in November, in December we already left for home. Our baby is almost 6 months old. We are really thinking of a brother or a sister for our child, and I think it will be easier to have both little kids simultaneously that's why we are ready to start another program with them after the world crises is over. They've added so much to their new packages!

Oh, thats great! Happy fo you! Apparently we haven't met before, the last time we were in Ukraine was in the begging of 2019 year. Our baby is almost 1.5 years now. We are not ready for the second child right at the moment :p, but if we are ready, we will definitely go to IVMED again too, it was nice cooperating with them!

Oh, thanks for sharing your experience with us! That's really useful for me. My husband and I've been looking for a country to do surrogacy and we read a lot of positive reviews about Ukraine, so decided to dig more into this whole theme of surrogacy in Ukraine. Oh, I've heard about Adonis too, but after reading some negative reviews about them, I'm not sure if we want to turn to them.
Can I ask what program did you choose? And how was everything going? Was the communication alright? I've just heard that some clinics don't really bother to keep their clients updated, and, you know, it's a foreign country and we couldn't be with the sm all the time, so I would like to get us much info as possible about her.

Thank's a lot for the info! My biggest fear is that after leaving the country, we wouldn't be updated about the surrogate mom all the time. I think I'm gonna contact the clinic for some help in deciding which program should we chhose and what the requirements are. Have you prepared some medical docs back at home or did all the tests and checkups in Ukraine upon your arrival? I am just thinking maybe it's better to do some tests here in Singapore and then come to Ukraine already prepared.

Melati, that's great! happy that ivmed helped you too! so how is the motherhood for you? for us, the whole process of even understanding that we have a child was quite challenging. even though we have waited for our baby for sooo long, we still felt like we weren't ready for the parenthood o_O we had to learn so much, to be honest, we are still learning...

We'r so happy that we could become parents, can't even describe how I fell. Thanks a lot to our clinic!

Ikr! I always thought I'm 100% prepared, but the motherhood is much much much harder then I thought  BUt my husband is always there for me, helping with all of this feeding, changing diappers and so on, really thankful for that. We also waited for our baby for a pretty long time, but you know, you never 100% ready for smth big like that in your life

Don't worry about that, based on my experince, the coordinator was always in touch with us, send us all the surrogate mom's test and check up results, even some photos of her. We even send her some presents from Indonesia, for her and for her 2 little kids :D

We prepared a list of docs that our coordinator sent us at home, but that just because we wanted to apply for a guarantee programme and they have some special requirments for this programme. tbh i dont remember exactly what was the tests, but if you'r interested you can contact them, but I think the list can ba different for different programmes. Good luck!

Thanks a lot! I think that's really important if the coordinator always keeps you updated. That't what I've been worrying about the most.
Oh, the guarantee program?? I should definitely check on it, but I am just not sure if it's applicable to us, I believe the Dr. decides that based on your medical history and some previous treatments that you had before, right? I think I will ask the coordinator about the terms of the program and what we should do to apply for it. Thanx, Melati ;)

Dear Emma, I strongly recommend you to look into ivmed family, they are really very good. We had guarantee egg donation + surrogacy program. Communication was on the best level, we had our own whatsapp groups, very helpful and fast updates. I understand your concerns because we have been there, but let me reassure you that communication is really on the highest level

I will ask ivmed family to orginize me a nanny for the new program, because I think with two small kids it will be way more difficult. also this time we won't be as stressful, since we know the clinic pretty well, the doctors and agency stuff and we know Kyiv too) we are so excited with starting another program

Yes, we've been worrying about this too. But everything was totally fine and communication was always on point, don't need to worry about that.

Yes, they have also a gurantee programs for surrogacy too, I do not remember all the medical certificates we sent to apply for this program, cause it's been such a long time before. I think it would be better to contact Ivmed clinic directly, I believe the coordinator will help you. Good luck and tell how it goes for you

for guarantee they mostly require sperm results and kariotype, so if you have those already, you can try to send the results over to see what they have to say

Yeah, thank you, i've already contacted them and the manager sent me the list of tests we have to provide to apply for this program, if i got it right, the doctor needs to take a look at these results, and he/she will decide if it works for us. We have done the sperm tests before, but not a karyotype, so I'm looking for a clinic where we can do it.

I think you can do karyotype at ivmed too, but you'll have to wait for the results. so I suggest doing it at home first, but if you want to save money, then do it at ivmed because the price difference is significant. karyotype is one of the more expensive tests out there

Hi there! Thankx, we decided to do it at home, you know, just to make sure everything is alright beforehand, we actually already did it, just waiting for the results now. Apparently all our other results are fine, so we just need to wait for the karyotype result and then apply for the guarantee programme. Hope everyhting is ok with that.

hello! As we also applied for this program, we also had to do karyotype test, we did it at home as far as I remember, we just wanted the doctor to confirm that we can apply for a guarantee program before traveling to Ukraine, but it would be cheaper to do it in the clinic once you arrive.

Hello! so have you received the results? did you ask ivmed to do a referral for you?

Hello, kristen :) Not yet, but the clinic we did the tests at said that they're gonna be ready soon. It takes a little bit longer than usual because all this covid situation. As soon as we get the results I'll send them to our coordinator and will be waiting for the doctor's decision. All our other results are fine, like semen analysis, tests for hiv, syphilis etc, so we really hope that the karyotype is okay too, so we' re eligible for the guarantee program. Will keep you updated, guys ;)

that's great, don't worry about karyotype test results, as far as I know only 2 per cent have problems with their karyotype.

Hello! Anybody planning for surrogacy this year? We have frozen embryos stored in a fertility centre here in Singapore. We're planning to ship them to our chosen surrogacy centre in Ukraine. Have contacted IVF couriers but all of them are saying that Singapore border is still closed. We prefer our embryos hand carried. Anyone else in this situation? Thanks!

Proposed ethical guidelines and legislative framework for permitting gestational surrogacy in Singapore

Abstract
Gestational surrogacy is currently banned in Singapore but is much debated. Some ethical guidelines and legislation for permitting gestational surrogacy in Singapore are proposed and discussed including: (i) review and approval of gestational surrogacy by the Ministry of Health on a case-by-case basis; (ii) stringent guidelines for gonadotrophin stimulation, IVF and ICSI procedures in 'traditional' surrogacy; (iii) restriction of gestational surrogates to parous married women with stable family relationships; (iv) exclusion of foreign women from acting as gestational surrogates, except for close relatives of the recipient couple; (v) reimbursement and/or compensation of gestational surrogates based on the direct expenses model; (vi) exclusion of medical professionals from surrogate recruitment and reimbursement; (vii) the surrogacy contract must make it legally binding for the prospective recipient couple to accept the child, even if it is born with congenital deformities; (viii) stringent guidelines for combining surrogacy with egg donation from a third woman, who is neither the social nor gestational mother. Policymakers in Singapore should conduct a public referendum on the legalization of gestational surrogacy and actively consult the views of healthcare professionals, religious and community leaders, as well as the general public, before reaching any decision.
