Hi All,
Have a newborn who just turned 1 month old. We are staying pretty close to KKH. Would like to hear some opinions when shall i go for A&E (KKH) and P.D (KKH).
So far during the last one month, have visited A&E (KKH) twice and P.D (KKH) twice.
Case1 - baby eye infection, till left eye keeps flowing yellow discharge and cannot open
- Head to A&E (KKH). A&E doctor diagnosed as worse scenario eg. due to camellia sex disease hence delivery resulted in this (I looked at my wife, my wife looked at me ????).
- Refer baby to eye specialists. Waited 2hrs in A&E (KKH) before seeing doctor (Damn).
- Eye specialists diagnose as only a bacteria infection
Case2 - baby keeps vomitting out from nose
- Head to A&E (KKH). A&E doctor diagnosed as "suspected oxygen intake not normal", requested baby to be admitted for "oxygen intake" which we refused
- went to P.D (KKH) and P.D diagnosed as "reflux" and prescribed with some "reflux" medicine
My observation
A&E (KKH) - Cons
1.) long wait always - at least one hour wait to see doctor, another 30mins for medicine
2.) doctors on duty are normally junior and inexperienced, they always have to consult a senior doctor after performing diagnose.
3.) A&E doctors always look from the "emergency or worse" perspective
A&E (KKH) - Pros
1.) if needs to refer to see other specialists, it will be under "subsidized rates"
2.) can walk-in
A&E (P.D) - Pros
1.) Looks more experience to me, always say normal normal normal for babies
2.) shorter wait
A&E (P.D) - Cons
1.) if needs referral to see other specialists, will be paying private rates
2.) need to make appointment/ walk-in without appointment pay more
After 4 trips, i felt
Serious case - will head for A&E, in case needs any referral to see any specialists
Mild case - will head to P&D
Any thoughts?
Cheers
