Hi I am new to this forum and I really need your advice. I m a Mother of one and have been jobless for the past 6 months. I need to know will I be able to get the custody of my 2 yrs old child if I were to get a divorce. My Husband owes credit card debts and is living on credits. He is a GM of a company and earns 9K per mth. Everyone who knows me thinks that I m having a good life but no one knows that we are suffering financially. I have suffered his verbal abuse since I was pregnant with my child. And it has gotten worst and it has come to a point that I can’t take it anymore. I don’t think that my child and I can depend on a man like him. He is irresponsible and only cares about drinking and showing off to his friends.

Not to worry..in s'pore custody goes to mum first.
Unless u didn' take care of ur Lo at all.
Ask for more maintenance .
Keep all receipt of purchase for the child, childcare or Nanny fee, monthly expenses etc..
Get a gd divorce lawyer to fight for maintainece.
Meanwhile find a job ..If mum can' help ,find a Nanny first before going to cc...

Yes. Singapore is Woman Chartered Law protection.
So most of the time, the child will go to the mother first, unless proven that she is unable to take care of the child.
Moreover you are jobless, and meaning you are 100% taking care of the child, so high chance for you to get the child.

You may try to go to Legal Aid for help, especially in engaging a lawyer for divorce. But again, probably just 'verbally abuse', may not be able to file for divorce as if remembered correctly, it need to fall under one of the 4/5 category, in order to file for divorce

Thanks Radish1 and JL8118 for both your replies!

I do have a helper does it makes a difference as to am I still the main caregiver for my Daughter?

May I know where to check if I m applicable to file for a divorce?

You are welcome.

Yes. Still consider you are the main caregiver even if you have a helper/maid

Well, you can see more details from:

Otherwise, just google for ' Singapore divorce reason' should have some option
