IVF with KKH (Dr Matthew Lau)


I am new here but hur wanted to share my experience with KK & Doctor Matthew Lau.
I chose KK in hope that it will be cheaper than other hospital so my first appt wd doctor Lau, was ok after waiting atleat 3 hrs. During this time, i have my 2nd menstruation so he said to me that i must come bk once my mens comes again & call them on the first day to start the ivf. After a month i made an appt again and his first question is "hav u made an appt at ivf ctr?" I said no coz i was not instructed to. So he called the ivf dept & said i cant do iy coz i didnt went through the right process of blood taking, seminars, etc. i was very very disappointed- i wasted 1 month!. So, i hv no choice but to wait again another month. He scanned me told me i might have a multiple eggs so he sent me to 2 scans. One is sis & theres another uterus blockage check scan even though i already told him i did it already at thomson. But since he used med term, i didnt knw it until the nurse told me the procedure so i went back to dr lau to ask. He told me, he made a mistake & cancel the 2 scans... This us after i rush from office and waited 2 hrs! Just to tell me i have mistake. So i also scheduled for seminar... But before seminar day comes, the scan dept called me to tell ne i have SIS scan sched the nx day so i panicked coz i didnt knw i ever had appt. i cant take leave & i thought the scan ws cancelled???? So i tried to call ivf and they cannot give me any answers after 4 hours of call & transferring!
So again, i went to appt to dr. Lau, excusing from my wirk & waited another 3 hrs just to ask if i will still need to do SIS. The nurse informed me that they cannot find my record so they r still looking for it. What??? So i pushed the door and ask Dr. Lau this one question and he told me they cannot find my record but as he remembered, i didnt need SIS...
Shocked & panicking that i might miss this month again, i immediately made appt to Doctor SF Loh of thomson and he was so nice to entertain me the nx day with the help of my OB claudine Tan... Dr SF Loh told me that i dnt hv possible multiple egg production and schedule me for ivf process on my nx mens cycle...
I wasted 2 months, time, transpo fare, emotional distress wd KK & Dr Lau... So even if ghomson is a bit expensive, i wont regret moving to them.... By the way, tomorrow is my ivf egg collection. ;)

I guess everyone will bound to have different opinions and experience with the doctors.

Sorry to hear that what you had went thru, but ultimately you still went thru ivf and good luck to your ER for tml!

@sumiko83 I guess although you are tiring, seeing those kids, will put a smile on your face… but remember not to stress up yourself and have rest whether you can...

Hi Ladies! I pass my review today ;) edd is mid dec not cfm cos twins usually may be earlier. Dr informed of the risk involved for twinnes. Everything double. Recommend to do Oscar which will be in May & June. :) gg back in 3 wks for next review.

Sumiko83, take it easy k. It's an energy boost to be welcomed back by the kids :D look forward to ur good news too!

Dj, sorry to hear abt the bad experience. But how come u din go over to ivf center next door after dr lau xfered u to ivf center? Usually once xfer to ivf center next dr, the nurse will brief on the initial procedures and when u get to start. Must go for blood test & counselling first b4 can start program. Mb some miscommunication somewhere?

Thomson is expensive cos cannot get gov grant only can use medisave. Actually the gov grant helps couples to off load financially quite abit.

@cheerywalnuts, your doctor forgot to tell u something.. your joy and happiness will be doubled too!! ;) rest well and take care k. Now it's my turn to feel uneasy. Not sure if my beanie is still inside. Like not much symptoms/movement these few days.

Although I'm quite tired today, still coping well. my co form is v helpful, offered to bring my class up from void deck to level 3 after their recesses for the next few weeks. I feel so touched. Trs and the kids were v happy to see me. One of my p2 boys came up to me and ask "Mrs Chen, are u pregnant?" I was like :eek::eek::eek:.. never expected a boy to ask me this qn. Lol.. and another gal made a card for me. So sweet.. :)

Yap!! :D don't worry I also dun have much symptoms just abit crampy and sleepy ;) ur beanie is sticking well with u!

Ur kids are so cute! So nice to teach pri kids. Lol maybe ur kids already sense u are pregnant. Usually kids have great sense in babies :D very nice of ur co form :D

Had been feeling fatigue. Then just now feeling nausea. No appetite to eat. There goes my weekend but looking forward to my scan on wed. V gan cheong. :D

Same, these few days i also no appetite. Eat abit jiu full.

Ya, suddenly got alot of small pimples~ =(

Meilingg, maybe it's due to the change in hormones. Maybe can check with dr lau if safe to apply pimple cream.

Sumiko83, 2 more days to ur scan. Feeling excited for u! What time is ur appt? Ur ms start to kick in le. :)
 
Had menstrual like cramps on sat and sun. But no spotting. Emailed Dr lau last night and he replied early today. Told me to increase my duphaston to 3x a day.
Just now in class was having a bad tummy ache. Am gg to kk now. :( I think i can't exert too much force when teaching.

I went to the o&g. Had my scan there. Bb is fine. Saw bb's heartbeat. Doc suggested me to be admitted for observation for my cramp. If ok tmr can discharge.

That's great! Your first mtg with bb :D yap better to rest well everything ok then go back home. Rem to inform dr lau so he can follow up on ur case :)
Mb ask dr lau to give u hl to rest at home after discharge

Naughty bb! Can't wait till wed to be scanned. Yep I guess just now 动胎气in class during lesson. Dr lau will be informed and will come and see me. Guess don't need to come back on wed.

sometimes my hubby likes to disturb me and i will feel abit of cramp here and there… rest awhile jiu ok le…

u rest well… and next time don't be too worked…

my manager always tell me take it easy, bb more important...

Didn't see dr lau today. Hope he'll drop by tmr morn. My colleagues told me better take hl for the whole of first trimester. Bb more precious. .

Yap better to take hl till end of first tri. Not good to walk ard too much or stress @ work. End of first trimester is during June holidays just nice. By the time u return to sch in July will be stable le in 2nd tri ;)
We gone through so much for the program. Bb comes first. Rest more is more important.

Hi niece, I'm better today. But I don't know why the nurses are more concern with my ohss than cramp or bb's condition. I have alrd passed the worst period of Ohss. They are still measuring my water input output waistline and weight.
I just emailed Dr lau to see him if he's available. If not, hope to discharge today. I also requested to rest at home for the whole month of May but dunno if he'll approve.

Sumiko83, glad to hear tt u are feeling better. Did u sleep last night? Dh stayed with u?
Did they do ohss bt for u? How do they measure the water input & output?
Tell him ur situation cos teaching may encounter unforseen circumstances. Mood fluctuations very high. Think he should approve :)

Cheerywalnuts, Dr lau just came to see me. Yep got sleep but not as comfortable as home. Woke up to pee then too hungry to sleep. Requested for some biscuits and milo. Yep they got take blood sample. They told me to record the amount of water I drank and to pee in a measuring pot. So far no problem.
Dr lau said later I'll do another scan before I discharge. He'll see me again in 1 month time. He said now another milestone is the 10th week. Will also give me 1 month hl to rest.
One last thing before he left, I said if any problems, I'll email him again. Hope he doesn't feel annoyed by me. :D

That's great so can have full rest till end of 1st tri. Why week 10 is another milestone lei? Did he explain why?
Haha I think he wun cos used to it le. At least can check with him directly & he respond quite fast ;)

Yea.. 医生also难做. So early need to be in the hospital le. He didn't say why leh. I also didn't ask. But seems like after our week 6 scan, usually will see doc again in one month time right.

Yap but I guess it's self responsibility that they take up. My next visit in 2 wks time, wk 9 by then. :) then wk 10 do bt. Wk 13 do Oscar detail scan.
Did he ask if u doing oscar? Usually have to get appt at amc to do it.
 
Ladies, have u heard abt anyone who is subsidized patient but seeing another dr in kkh as private patient? Not sure if it is possible to do it.

Not sure in kk. But my mum is both a Pte and subsidized patient in tts. But it's of different area. Pte is for leg doc Bcoz she wasn't referred by polyclinic doc, she walk in direct to the specialist clinic.
Subsidized for gastro, respiratory and ent. Coz she was referred by polyclinic doc to see gastro. Then further referral to other dept is consider subsidized.

Oic cos I m thinking if it is possible for me to do tt. Cos having twins not sure if the MO experience enough. Thinking if I shld see a gynae experience in multiples.
Cos I read tt some pte patient advised by their gynae to admit under subsidised class if there are any complications else the bill will be rocket high. But not sure if under subsidized will the gynae be there to follow up or just leave to dr on duty since subsidized class. Blur in this area.
 
Ladies, if you are using iphone, you might want to download this app known as "what to expect : pregnancy"

It helps you to track which day you are right now and how bb will progress each week. Videos are included too~

Meilingg I also installed it but Android version seems different platform. I realise their timing seem to be US time. The days for edd or lmp will reflect 12 hrs lag. No videos too :(

Now im at amc waiting for my blood test. Just had the short counselling for down syndrome. Ultrascan have to be done between week 11 to 13.

The price for 1 bb is $384 if i not wrong. Today pay half.

Whole process plus waiting time was the best today. I reached 11.20 or 11.25 by 11.45 im done~

I went through the counselling after dr review last wk. Was told abt the cost. Informed the counselor tt I am under subsidy, so the price is 200 if not will be double. Will pay when go for bt too.
 


Ya. Actually quite ex but no harm doing.

looking forward to my oscar scan. Still got 4 weeks more... I have not been seeing beanie for 2 weeks but it seems very long~~~
