IVF Mummies-To-Be Support Group

Hi Vi4n,
NT scan is $107. I didn't do Oscar.

Hi Soon-to-be,
Maybe it is too acidic for your stomach. Vomiting is common in 1st trimester. I drink plain water also vomit. Prof had to give me this anti-vomiting pill. But now I crave for orange everyday.

linda/vi4n/soon-to-be,
the test strip that we test before every appointment is to detect sugar as well as protein so if it's normal doc won't say anything.... i'm due for the GD test next appt...

anyway my mum also dun allow me to take oranges too... saying it will cause too much phelgm to the baby.... fruits that are too acidic try not to take too much... i go by the policy of moderation... just dun take excessively... maybe 1st trimester just be more careful... and 2nd trimester onwards can eat a wider variety... cos i figured the only i can get a balanced diet is to eat all types of food esp since we tend to eat outside while we work so unavoidable at times... for constipation, i didn't realise apple works... until it was mentioned during antenatal class... but must take in the morning... then will have smooth bowels... very easy to get constipation during pregnancy

antenatal class also did mention that nowadays babies are heavier cos we have better nutrition so the usual weight of newborns are 3 to 3.5kg... do sign up for antenatal classes during ur 2nd trimester... quite informative and useful..

soon to be, test strip = for each doc's appt we're required to measure our weight, blood pressure and then given a test strip to pee over. Are you at KKH?

hi soon-to-be

i remember my nurse telling me to avoid taking too much orange/orange juice, tomatoes coz they are food that causes heartburn and discomfort for morning sickness... since i avoided them, i felt much better.

for milk, i think it is essential for the body, so i try to find milk which says easy-for-digestion, or for people who are lactose-intolerance. Still have a little discomfort after drinking but better than regular milk.

Spiffy, yes, I'm with KKH. Perhaps coz I haven't changed my status which I'm supposed to "re-register" as a pregnancy (watever operation) situation in the next check-up, tt's y i haven't done all these tests/checks yet.

Pau, i know abt the milk portion. But sometimes it's a bit difficult to stomach them. And esp after that i will take my medication. Then in the end, have to vomit everything out which is a bit wasteful leh...so i might wan to alternate my milk intake lor....till i'm better, prob in tri 2.

Soon to be - ahhh, i see. Well, what i've been advised is before i see the gynae for each appt, head towards a particular room (can't remember the no.) first to do all this, then wait to see yr doc. No need to take number etc. No worries, i think as long as you do it from the next appt onwards..

Singapoh, u r here too! Perhaps you shld lor...I felt so much better after the vomit.

Spiffy, ya, I'll make sure that I do those too. A bit worried about getting the pregnancy diabetics coz I'm so much into the sweet stuff. So if there's some guidelines/alerts to tell me i'm almost there, at least I can do better control in my sugar intakes...

Anyone adding us into the list? Realise the list ends at EDD April 09.

We shld be the new batch of pregnant women ba.

Thanks Lina. Can see most are with KKH.

Can the sisters that have already delivered share the est. costs for (1) consultation during pregnancy (2) delivery? And the possible pros and cons?

Am discussing with my hubby whether to stick to KKH or switch to TMC as the latter is nearer to my place. Now hubby leaving the decision to me....

Does anyone know an estimated cost of a day in NICU? Just wondering if the amount the insurance covers is even near the amount..

Hi Lina,

NUH Prof PC Wong, Single, Edd 23 June 2010.

Cactus, what is it done during nuchal test? and hubby can be around? thank you..

Me too thinking whether should stick with NUH or change to TMC.

Hi Vi4n,

It is like a detailed scan, they will measure the thickness of the neck & head circumference of the babies etc, coupled with some blood test to determine the chance of abnormal babies. Of course hubby can be around.

Lina, thanks for updating yeah.

Linda,
Dr Loh delivered my 1st baby. It was a natural birth.

He only turned up when my baby's crown can be seen. He appeared, cut down there and I just gave a few push. After he stitched me up, he left shortly.

The midwife was very cheerful and good throughout my labour.

hi singapoh, sorry for this dumb question but is dr loh good at sewing? i will be probably having a c-section by him and hope he can give me a neat stitch up. Also, do they play any music in the theatre at kk delivery room?

Yumyum,

That's not a dumb question at all. His stitching was good. I have a gf. She was in a lot of pain coz her gynae stitched too tight for her. (TMC)

Can't remember if there's music in the delivery room.

hmm...seems like KK isn't that bad? I heard a lot of KK midwife, tt's y thinking of switching.

Are most of u in single room or 4-bedded in your experience?

Thanks Lina for the list update.
Yeah, we are the recent graduates. hahaha..

Cactus, thank you very much for your info. Because of the ladies here are with KKH. Are you happy with NUH? They dont scan on every visit, right?
So after week 12, when Prof transferred you to Mary Krauff, you paid for each visit until you were at Week 22 then signed up package?
Sorry for so many questions because I really can't decide whether to stick with NUH or what.

heh heh i think there at least 2 more to be added to the list whose EDD are around the same time but they haven't moved to this forum yet..

thanks Lina and Singapoh, glad to know he is the chop chop kind and husbands are allowed into the delivery suite. C-section, hubby also can go in?

read about making birth plans and about playing music will help the babies more relaxed as they enter the world. But I imagine, C-section mummies are all too high to feel nervous

so no need to make any plans, right?

Hi Vi4n,

I delivered my 1st gal at NUH and I'm very pleased with their service, so I continued with NUH. I guess fewer mums deliver at NUH so you have full attention of the nurses. Both PC Wong & Mary Rauff are quite well-known in this field. They used to be from Mt E. In fact, Mary Rauff still runs a clinic in Mt E. For me, its the gynae that matters, not the hospital. Actually NUH is very far for me.

You're right, NUH package only starts at week 22 and they don't scan for very visit. For singleton, only 2 scan at week 22 and 32 included inside the package. Coz mine is twins, so I had additional scans at week 18, 28 and 35 besides week 22 and 32.

is dr pc wong delivering you? then you're in good hands!

he is an excellent gynae. he delivered my triplet girls at 35/2weeks. he is a very caring and responsible gynae. truly lucky i stayed with him throughout.

wish you and all the preggie mummies here all the best for your deliveries!

Hi to all mummies to be, congrats to your success on IVF.
Soon to be, i am also under Dr loh for IVF and decided to stay with him. He is ok, except for the long waiting time, I don't have anything to complain. However, I am disappointed with hospital system. In my first trimester ( I am 35 weeks today), I had spotting and went to 24hr emergency. Luckily, nothing wrong. But this was not told to Dr Loh and I had to inform him when I next saw him. Was quite surprised that it was not 'recorded'in my file.
Recently I had spotting again. I had to be admitted as i also had contractions. The whole time I was in KK, dr loh did not come to see me nor examine me. The doctors who came were young ones and I had to keep repeating why i was in the hospital. I was like ????? They can't even read from the chart meh? I down graded to C ward as I was scared I had to deliver and the charges incurred by my twins would be too high, but is that how you treat a patient? I was paying pte rates for the past 8 months! I am due to see Dr Loh on Wed and I bet you he wouldn't even know I was admitted the previous week. I guess, the difference with a pte gynae is the assurance you get to speak to the doc as long as there is an emergency. I don't find this at KK.
