IVF/ICSI Support Group

ICSI, Hub sperm are not in good quality. There are no diff in IVF & ICSI. Agree with Spiffy it is a better chance. The cost is about $1k diff…not to worry.
Doctor know what is best.

hi serene
the ivf procedure normally divided to 3 stages, stage 1 is supression, stage 2 is stimulation, stage 3 is embryo retrieve and embryo transfer...then wait for 2 wks to test hcg (pregnancy test)...
i spent 11k at nuh for 1st cycle, spent 8.5k at kkh for 2nd cycle... but the cost vary from person to person, cos the medicine dosage for everyone is different...cos it helps

Hope4BB,
Will be some where in 22-23Dec...which is 21th day after the menses.

My menses is irregular so I need take medicine to induce, so plan to take the medicine next 2 weeks which is 23Nov and once the menses come I will call CHR and they will give me all the dates.

geam, gd news for u..finally can start your ivf cycle and in time for a tiger bb..=P
are u doing under Pc wong?

May I know other than irregular menses, any other problem u or huby having?

geamys,
How do I recognise u? Hee....me not too sure wat I will be wearing on tt day though...U can PM me if u wan...

I was not informed CHR will be closed in Feb leh..issit cfm?

muski, u starting puregon tomorrow night, 12th. 7 days after puregon, u will be doing 1st scan on 19th. depending on the individual reaction to puregon, need abt 7 to 10 days of puregon. ER will be 36hrs after HCG done at night. So, estimated date for ur ER should be around 23rd +/-

Good luck!

muski, the no of scans required after puregon depends on how much ur body reacts to the drug. The doc will adjust the dosage accordingly. Nevertheless, ur ER shld be 23rd that wk.

Serene,
I tink ICSI has a greater chance? Y issit lesser?
NUH has a shorter waiting time...me wait ard 2 mths...

My ICSI costs me 1k...

I was told by the CHR nurses tt once I start on GonalF, I will need to go to NUH to scan every 2-3 days leh to monitor closely on the progress...

Hope4bb, yes I'm with Prof Wong. For me the problem is more to Hubby, my BT all looks fine other than the irregular menses.

Rostrum,
I also dunno how to recognise you...I will PM you later.

I heard from the CHR nurse yesterday when planning the date for IVF.

Thanks for all the info. The nurse at KKH briefed me on the estimated cost and procedure but she mentioned that ICSI success rate is very low and that IVF is a more viable option. However Dr Loh alerted me that I may encounter over-ovulation if I go for IVF which may result in swelling of the stomach and having to go for a surgery to remove the excess eggs. I am confused now. Dunno which one to go for...I do not wish to put myself under extreme stress if the ICSI is unsuccessful and in the end I still have to go for IVF
sad.gif

Rsotrum,

I dont have any idea yet abt the dosage...maybe I can ask them later...

I'm still a bit confuse...it really take time for me to understand and absord all this as this is my first time...

geamys,
Ok...I will check my PM tonite...now not so convenient..

Ic...bt I guess u wun be affected from the closure....yr ER/ET shd be ard end Jan...I m jus worried Prof is not ard tt period...

Serene,
Dr Loh will decide for u whether to go for ICSI or IVF...dun stress yrself...leave it to yr doc...

geamys,
Dun worry...tis is also my 1st time..I tink we dun need to noe too much is better...ignorance is bliss...the CHR nurses will guide us as we go along and wif the talk, u will understand better...
Jus rmb the "To dos and don'ts" will do...

serene,
i think they may be some misunderstanding and u may want to clarify with the nurses... actually ivf and icsi are the same procedures, just that icsi has an added step where a selected sperm is injected into the egg rather than selecting a pool of sperms and let them fertilise the eggs themselves... usually icsi is considered if hubby's sperm quality is an issue or the eggs have a harder or thicker shell than normal... the success rates for ivf and icsi are similar... so i think it's better u clarify with the nurse again so that u dun go into it with the wrong mindset as a positive attitude is very important for the success of the treatment..

Rostrum.....that was the same for me when I was doing mine, my 1st attempt too....everything jus follow the nurse or doc instructions....

soon-to-be,
I tink the more we tink, the more troubled we will get..since we hv entrust it to the professionals, I tink they will noe better...of cos not follow blindly, as and when we hv doubts we still can raise our concerns...
Tts y I say ignorance is bliss...and u strike at yr very 1st attempt right?

hi everyone, am new here... am exploring a few issues, that i hope u will be able to help with

Choice of specialist:
Exploring visiting dr sf loh. do u know if he sees fertility patients in clinic D or in TPS? our pref is TPS but i heard the equipment is more at clinic d.

Also thought of visiting LC Cheng, but i heard the costs are more expensive, n cant get govt co-fund?

Time needed:
also, wonder for those who have been thru IVF - how much leave from work did u need? That's a major concern.

Yes dear Rostrum! Sometimes I find knowing too much will make me more stressed, and I will worry unnecessary.

My hubby and I are testified ok by Dr Loh before we did IVF. If we are ok, what can be the reason(s) for us not able to conceive naturally after 2year+ of attempt on our own. Both of us attribute it to stress.

And a lot of people told me the more i wan it to happen, the least it's going to be. I have another fren who had PCOS, and when she stop "trying", she got pregnant!

Personally, that's wat I think. Go with the flow, but if you feel that knowing how it works may help you to improve the chances, no harm asking as long as it's not stressing you out.....8)

hi faith, taking leave was a major concern for me before i started ivf too. i even wrote a long email to KKH come to think of it, asking them to extend their clinic hours on weekdays & weekends. LOL.

But i've found that it isn't really a problem at all because for the 1st 2 stages of iVF, most things can be done without taking leave or time off. I'd arrive nice and early before 8, get meds/blood test/etc and zip out of there in time for work. It helps that I work at Novena which is close to KKH.

Most other procedures are covered by leave given by your Dr. If you dont want your boss to find out, like me, then take the day off for ER/ET and a few days during your 2WW.

Faith, I'm with Dr Loh as my fren did her 1st successful attempt with him. When I first see him, it's on normal day at clinic D. I change to TPS coz I'm able to see him on Sat so that I didn't need to keep taking leave from office. And I think the diff in consultation fee is $10(??) Medication wise I think no diff leh....my vit B that he precribed to me for 21 days is only $3+. Anyway, if you are visiting him on Sat, he usually see his patients at clinic D.

I heard that can only get co-fund if u do ivf at govt hospital and the cost at govt hospital are usually ard 40-50% lesser (i'm comparing KKIVF to pte, mine came up to $8k with cash for the initial jabs. A fren asked a pte gynae and was quoted ard $15k)

Leave-wise, i only took the 18 days of Hospitalisation Leave as I only see Dr Loh on Sat and I will go extremely early to be the 1st few for my scans at KKIVF, meaning i will only need to take 30mins - 1hr time off from work in the morning.

Faith Hope,
I personally tinks is better to let yr boss noes abt yr decision...so tt they will understand when u wanna take time off or HL...just my personal opinion...be frank wif them, I m sure they wil understand...
Like u, I also worried before I talk to my boss...bt I m glad tt he actually supports me...

Rostrum, me too back then..follow my heart..and somehow I keep having this feeling that it will be succesful and true enuff..8)

Good luck to you and keep us updated on your conditions!

soon-to-be,
I m not as optimistic like u...I play by ear and just follow the instructions will do...
And of cos I m +ve, bt I dare not tink of the result...
happy.gif

Thanks soontobe/spiffy/rostrum for your quick replies!

Any idea if can see Dr Loh for first visit at TPS?

Also, is IVF treatment itself at the main clinic D or in TPS?

Wow, soontobe - 18 days of hospitalisation leave sounds a lot --> which phase were these used for?

Also, am i understanding right that most of u did not need to take leave during the stimulation phase - was this very tiring for u to work? - but only after egg retrieval n transfer?

Thanks much for support gals

Rostrum...ha, if you speak to my hubby, he will tell u i'm the least optimistic person! But knowing the importance of it, I keep telling myself everything will be alright. And luckily i had my noti little gal (a Jack Russell) to keep me occupied and happy at all times....

If you don't have a dog, then pls make sure ur hubby be super ultra supportive.....ask him to keep you happy. Back then, I kept telling my hubby to entertain me and to start practising as a good dad by singing me to sleep and etc..and he would every time ignore me and say i siow...then I would have a good laugh at his reactions...

Two more questions for now, hope u dun mind - is KK / SF Loh open with giving MCs?

For those with KK, must u go to the clinic every morening for injections? or self-do?

Is anyone with LC Cheng? He is another consideration, but i'm concerned about two points: (a) cost cos private (b) not sure if his clinic opens early in the morning, which is a problem for work...

Faith Hope,
I still hv some leaves to clear....ard 6 days...so I will be taking when I go for scans....
Bt if u do not hv much leaves left, u can go earlier for yr scans like wat the other gals
mention...and take some time off from your boss..
My boss actually told me I can take time off for scannings, bt I wld prefer to apply leaves
since my work place is out of town...

Faith, no prob. 18 days was for the period fr ER (then ET then the 2WW till BT).

You can try and make appt at TPS but I heard have to wait v long time before you get the appt date.

IVF treatment mainly at KKIVF centre which is the one behind clinic D

I had v little symptoms during my process except a really bad headache for 1 day during the stimulation phase.

soon-to-be,
My dh is a suppotive man and he is a happy go lucky man who is v good in cracking jokes, so I got no plm wif tt...bt I find he is not sensitive enuff to my needs at times..
I will rent a lot of TVB drama series to watch during the 2ww to keep me occupied...heee...
I m in btw a pessimistic and an optimistic person...haaa...

faith Hope,
every hospital will give u ard 18 days HL...

To be honest Faith, i didn't experience much discomfort/side effects during the stimulation phase. I did dislike the jabs though. haha. Yes, just the 2ww where you should ideally be resting as much as possible.

I also have the problem with my company...I'm working in a MNC and my 3 bosses who I direct and indirect report to are all single and 1 above 30, 2 above 40...worst things here is they are all workerholic. This make me very diffucult to say it out.

Just a few months ago, one of the associate here went to KK for IVF and she is pregant now, you can the managers' sour face...sigh. I dont know how to deal with when my time need to go to NUH 2 to 3 times a week, further more I work in Novena Sq.

Hey Ladies,

I got this special promotion from my client.. maybe some of you would be interested hehe...

About Made in Club Med
Made in Club Med is a program targeted at couples who are planning conception, and at families who understand the importance of spending time together. Any couple who stays in any Club Med resort from 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2010, and conceives a child, will have the child accorded a Club Med Kid special status.

As part of this program, a Club Med Kid is entitled to stay in 4 pre-selected Club Med resorts in the Asia Pacific region till the end of his/her 6th birthday, for FREE.

“Club Med’s Premium All-Inclusive vacations in which couples do not need to plan – or pay for – all gourmet meals, all drinks (including alcoholic beverages), activities and nightly entertainment, free people’s attention from the logistics of the vacation to focus on the vacation itself. In a Club Med vacation, couples truly spend time together, reconnect with each other, and strengthen the bonds that hold them together.

“Reflective of Club Med’s sense of humour, ‘Made in Club Med’ is an interesting investment from us to help communicate the kind of intimacy and connection that our guests are able to find in the 80 Club Med resorts around the world. Of course, for couples who are trying to conceive, the abundance of food, free flow of drinks, and being in some of the most beautiful locations in the world … help make things happen.

‘Made in Club Med’ will encourage the beneficiaries of the program – families with Club Med Kids – to take advantage of the Club Med proposition more regularly over the next 6 years, by taking more regular vacations as a family, in the process making these families more bonded from within,

“This program is organic to the growth of Club Med because since we invented it in 1964, we have a very established Mini Club focused on taking care of children from 24 months to 17 years old. Club Med’s Baby Club, which takes care of babies and toddlers up to 23 months, is also being set up in our resort in Phuket in December 2009.

“Parents may rest assured that their children, and their Club Med Kids are taken care of by professionals whenever they (re)visit Club Med. Looking ahead, ‘Made in Club Med’ ensures a demand for our kids’ program as the Club Med Kid grows with us, giving us confidence that this new program will succeed since it integrates perfectly into our growing services.

Thank u!

Spiffy n anyone else - if the injections were self-administered, how many times did u have to go to the hospital throughout IVF treatment? Also, were the jabs painful? *scary*

N i read about simplified IVF at Thomson, which reduces the number of jabs from like 70 to 15 - this sounds so attractive somehow. Anyone heard of it?

At the same time I hear that SF Loh has great rates.

How are you all doing in your journeys, by the way? Hope u can intro a bit

It's good to have u ard...

hi Faith, i can't remember how many times i'd to go to KKH, perhaps between 5-10 times? The jabs are actually not painful - they are subcutaneous injections with small needles that go into the fatty tissue under the skin. But my Puregon was a little painful because of the volume (400units) and the silly injection pen that doesn't inject very smoothly. You'll know what i mean once you get there. Once you get into the routine of the injections, it's not a problem.

During the 2WW, some sisters are given progesterone jabs (others, are prescribed inserts) and these jabs are intra-muscular with a much longer/thicker needle and it's not pleasant. It is administered at the hospital.

This is my first IVF attempt.. am extremely thankful to be 9 weeks 3 days today.

can i check doc says that i may be doing my ER next Monady. so when do i do my ET? do i need to take leave to do my ER? doc prescribe 400IU for me and i will be taking it until friday. i am worried coz i have too little egg so doc ask mi to do ICSI. do they fertilise the egg on the same day they do ER? i need to apply for leave but i duno when should i do so.
