IVF at NUH--feedback pls

Hi soulasylum
how come u can claim insurance??
AND CCONGRATS TO YOU!!!!

I am thinking, as I am seeing him on 11 Jan, how long will i get to go the egg extract and transfer?
as i am changing my job...so i dont know is it the right time or not

@ShiJia - it is a must for us to take up the insurance plan before we transfer our embryos into us. Its a rule by the govt. If Im not mistaken, I had to pay ard $150plus, cant remember exactly. It will cover your pregnancy and also when your child is born, incase you having twins and need NICU. Quite a good coverage.

As for egg extraction and transfer, I started my first jab of Suprefact on 13 June 2011 and egg extraction was in mid July and then transfer was 3 days later. 2 weeks wait and I went for my bloodtest on 1 August 2011. They will tell u on the same day if you are positive or negative. Once you are positive you have to come back again in the afternoon to see your gynae and then the twice weekly jab of progesterone will start then. This twice weekly jab you have to ask the nurse to do it for you cos its on the hips area. You can opt to do it in NUH or any GP outside, up to your convenience. I did all 12 weeks worth of progesterone jab in NUH.

Actually its quite a fast process and very straightforward.

coolcool - do go for your next FET whenever you are ready. Dont rush and positive thoughts yeah!

Babydust goes out to you!

@Shi: Thank you
happy.gif
!

It was not an insurance claim Shi, it was a payment

, with Great Eastern. It's called Assisted Reproduction Programme Insurance. It is a coverage for new born babies conceived via IVF who need hospitalization. Since IVF is more likely to result in multiple births, there's a greater chance that our babies might need hospitalization due to premature births. It's optional but we're strongly encouraged to buy it.
happy.gif

I'm assuming you're asking if medical leave will be provided for you? I'm a housewife, so I did not have to take any hospitalization leave. If I remember correctly, some ladies here have mentioned that medical leave will be given to you from the day of egg retrieval up to your BHCG test, 2 weeks after the embryo transfer, when they'll test your blood to see if you're pregnant. I might be wrong. I'm sure some ladies here will be able to answer to that more clearly

Yes, Andreanie was right. The insurance was compulsory. Forgot :p. It was written on the IVF programme outline that AR insurance is compulsory for Singaporeans and Singapore PRs.
happy.gif

@Vi: Haha! Somehow... I just love active and naughty little kids! It shows that they're smart
happy.gif
. Of course sometimes they make you crawl up the wall... but cute still! Hahaha!
happy.gif

Hi soulasylum,
IC for the insurance... yes it is a good idea for people going IVF to take it

i am not sure, i am thinking if can, i have my first appt at 8am and try to have every thing finish by 8.30 then take cab to work to reach at 9am.

Still planning out, will see what is my plan on 11 Jan.

@Shi: You mentioned that you're changing your job. If that's the case, I would suggest that you start your new job only AFTER your first trimester. IVF procedure requires frequent clinical visits up to the end of your first trimester (especially if you really need Progesterone support), which I believe will not make your new employers very happy. Unlike Andreanie, I took Progesterone shots and tablets only up to 7 weeks of my pregnancy. It was a choice I made because I strongly believed that I didn't need them

Ladies, thanks for your wishes. I got split feeling. On the one hand, I want to tiao my body first to have better condition for next FET, on the other hand, I want to rush cos I am no longer young. I am almost 40 liao.
sad.gif
May be I will rest for Dec and Jan first and prepare my body. During which I will go for TCM, do exercise, monitor ovulation and try natural. If I can ovulate naturally and regularly during these months, I will report to Prof and will ask to go for natural FET. So I don't need to wait 2 more months. ;) Good idea?

cool-U can try that. No matter what, natural is better compare to medicated.
If U can ovulate nautrally, why not.
May I check, after D&C, yr next menses came naturally? & it was delayed for how long?
I understand that U are given tablets to regulate after the 1st menses as U had spotting.
I need to prepare the questions to ask Prof next mon when I see him.

@Cool: Sounds good enough to me
happy.gif
. Talk to Prof about this too, and see what he thinks
happy.gif
. I can totally understand how long 2 months can really be when you're going through IVF, hahaha!
happy.gif
Just don't rush too fast, and avoid stress as much as you can dear
happy.gif
. Keep your Cool and things will go a-okay!
happy.gif

Blue is right!!! Positive thinking and forever 21 at heart! Yeah!
happy.gif
happy.gif
With cosmetic surgery, it is even possible to LOOK forever 21... But I seriously don't recommend that.... Unless you want to look "surprised" and at the same time expressionless for the rest of your life..... LOL!!! ;P

Jia Xin and all others who are new to IVF,

There will be a seminar on IVF on 7th Jan 2012 (Sat). 2-5 pm. O&G Conference Room (level 6, Main building 1).

Topics:
What is IVF all about?
Who is suitable for IVF?
Procedures involved in IVF

Speakers
Prof P C Wong
Dr Stephen Chew
Dr Anupriya Agarwal
Mary (Embryologist)
Khoo Mui Hong (Staff Nurse, CHR)

I strongly encourage to go for this seminar. It is very informative and you will know all the procedures involved and will get to see and try syringes and pens (for suppression and stimulation jabs), apparatus they use in ER and ET. You can ask any questions in mind and clarify any doubts you have after the talk. There will also be a talk by a mother who gone through IVF (I guess, but not sure. but there was such talk at the seminar I attended). She will share her experience before, during and after IVF.
To register or for enquiries, please call 6774 5336.

Yes, Cool, I personally think we shld wait for at least 2 normal menstrual cycles (without any kind of med intervention) before resuming any form of ivf treatment, jux to make sure the body has somehow return back to normal. Meanwhile, try natural.

From what I know, the seminar u mentioned that is going to be held at the O & G conference room, is for NUH patients only i.e. those who have already seen the drs in NUH.

Jamp- pop champagne & celebrate
Relief at last. Dont need any med.
If cramps, pls take panadol, don't be too hero wor.
I'm so happy to hear that yr menses come.
I think the seminar, even though not seen by the Drs yet also k register.

Blue, my menses came naturally one month after D&C. After that I was spotting on and off for about two weeks. The spotting stopped while taking duphaston which is meant to induce menses. 4th day after I finished duphaston my next menses came. Next try is your FET or fresh cycle?

thanks to all for the reply.

to those who are under dr wong, you did not get referral letter anymore and booked appointment directly to him is it? his first consultation is like 100+
sad.gif

would anyone know if nuh also does icsi?
is icsi and ivf the same?

Hey gals, can I ask about the gonal f pen? After I pulled out the pen, there seemed to be a little liquid coming out. Is this normal? The needle was injected all the way in and couldn't be clicked further. Thanks!

Sg, sgh does icsi for all cases because the success rate is higher. Ivf is a predecessor of icsi, according to the nurse.

Blue, thanks, yep, so relieved, only slight cramp, thank God. Medium flow, not heavy.

Abt the seminar, prof was the one who told us in Jul when we saw him the 2nd time that the sem at o&g rm is for patients only. The public one is conducted @nuhs, I think.

SGtwist, I asked prof nurse Sharon before as I saw variations in prof's consultation chrg, it's by the duration of consultation, can't remember min but max is $85, excl GST.
ICSI is the procedure to inject sperm directly into the egg, used in conjunction with ivf. I think they do that for most cases if I'm not wrong?

Tub, dun worry, it's normal. I encountered that too.

@Tub: Yeah Tub, it's completely normal. I was told to leave the needle in my flesh for 3 more seconds without letting go of the clicker before pulling it out. I counted to 10 instead, so to make sure I get every last drop! Haha!
happy.gif
It's only because it was so damn bloody expensive!! :p Pardon my language ladies... :p

@SGTwist: Yes Twist
happy.gif
. Call the clinic up and ask for an appointment with him directly. There's no need for a referral letter
happy.gif
. And yes... He comes with a steep fee. All senior consultants in NUH do... But I can tell you, in my experience, he's worth every single dollar I've ever paid
happy.gif
.

NUH does ICSI too. IVF and ICSI aren't the same. If you roughly know what IVF is all about, ICSI is just another procedure which involves picking out the best sperm and inject that little tadpole directly into your egg
happy.gif
. For sperm with low motility or morphology, this procedure gives you a higher chance of fertilisation. While IVF only involves placing a couple of million sperm in a petri dish with your egg in it, hoping one could do its job
happy.gif
. So, in summary, IVF with ICSI gives you an added advantage
happy.gif
.

I suggest that you attend the IVF seminar posted on Coolcool thread just a scroll up above. It's very informative I can assure you. The whole process will be explained thoroughly by Prof Wong himself and his team
happy.gif
.

@Jamp & Tub: Good morning ladies!!
happy.gif
I thought I was the only one here this morning :D. Jamp, congrats on the arrival of your Aunty ;p! Only sparkling grape juice for me please (assuming you're having a party to celebrate and me invited :p lol!)
happy.gif
.

Good morning Soul. I'll treat u to Welches' grape juice, cut away the sparkling, dun want the gas, jux in case u start burping, little bb gets irritated...Hahahaha

Haha ladies thanks! Will tell hub to leave it inside and count to 10!!!

Sg, sorry ah... I meant Nuh, not sgh... Senior moments! Haha...

Jamp, congrats! Now u can tiao your body, and try again! Sooner or later we'll strike!

@Jamp: Awwww!!! :'( *cry* Hahahaha! Jamp, tiao your body good okay? And your thoughts too! Tune it towards POSITIVE!! So that you'll get a BIG FAT POSITIVE!! Haha!
happy.gif

@Tub: Yeah Tub! 10 bucks a drop! Tell him! Hahahaha! :p

Hi Twist, if you want to see Prof Wong you can't go through polyclinic. You have to call Women's clinic and make appointment directly. Prof doesn't see subsidised patients normally. Only when Dr Chew and Dr Anu are not available, he sees. Prof Wong's first time charge is 137. Follow up one is about 80 I think. Not sure cos he waived his consultation fee for my follow up. I saw him 3 times for my FET, I only got to pay first time charge.

Cool- next will be FET, still have 5 frozen.
Don think my mind is ready for 3rd fresh.
Tub- that is normal.
The reason like soul say don't release yr hand at the click when needle still in u & when u pull the needle put, hand also remind pushing at the click. Reason behind is incase u hit onto the bld vein, blood won't back flow back into the pen. Then there goes yr $$.

Soul and blue, Haha I will ensure everything goes into my big fat belly tonight! Haha... Like Injecting gold liddat!

Jamp, thanks for your wishes. I'm taking it one day at a time. I still hv to go through ivig b4 my et and after my er. @__@ not thinking too far ahead.
happy.gif

Btw, what do we hv to look out for during the first scan after stim?

Soul, I'll try to, pls come often to remind us ok?

Su, u r rite!!! First time I love the sight of this auntie!!! Hahahaha

Tub, am sure u can make it
happy.gif

Soul...wanna remind u to stay away from the reno site when contractors doing those messy and loud jobs, ok? Go there in the evening after they finish their work if u need to check on progress, then talk to them by phone or get hubby to do it

Jamp.... You're so sweet!!!
happy.gif
Thank you for reminding me
happy.gif
. Rest assured that I will handle the renovation with due diligence. My husband and I have already planned to check on the reno only on weekends, when the contractors aren't doing their work
happy.gif
. Thanks again dear! You're such a sweetheart
happy.gif
. *Hugs*

P/S: Not to worry... I will pop by now and then to spread my "positive thinking" philosophy, especially to those who need a caring nudge. ;)

Soul, u write pretty well. Were u in the creative industry b4 staying at Hm? Just curious.... Hehheh...

Hi Tub
happy.gif
! Thank you for your generous compliment
happy.gif
. To answer your question... No. Unfortunately not. I was in accounts before deciding to forego income. Hahaha! And before accounts, I was in the food and beverage industry for several years.
happy.gif

Soul, I'm surprise u were doing accounts! Thought u shld be in sales/marketing/PR kind of industry, I thought accounts is only for boring pple like me ;p oops no offense to the rest in accounts jobs
happy.gif

Hahaha! Aww come on Jamp... Give yourself some credit babe! Not all people in accounts are boring.... ;p You're not the only one who said that I should be in sales/marketing/PR... All my former colleagues from the same accounts department said the same. Now it makes me wonder if they were hinting at me to change career because I was too loud... Hahahaha! But I love numbers... What can I say??? Now who's the boring one?? Hahaha!

Haha soul and jamp, accountants need not be boring people too! Used to hv musician friends who are accountants in "real life"!! But seriously soul, I'm sure u read a lot. Your nick says a lot about u!! Haha as compared to er... TUB... Heh heh... o_O

Anyway, we managed to get most of the gold into me yesterday and today! No $$ wasted. Haha.

Tub, I find your nick really cute!
happy.gif
Actually, if you google "soul asylum", you'll most likely be introduced to an old American rock band. They were popular for the song "Runaway Train" back in the early 90s. The funny thing is, I chose this nick when I was 16 (and have been using it since), even before I knew of the band's existence. As for why.... Well... We'll have to meet up for me to explain that. ;) And yes, I do read a lot. Although, lately my reading materials have been my son's essays.... Hahaha! They're pretty good actually! Not that I'm bragging as his mom... But that boy can write! Better than I ever did!
happy.gif
The jewel of my heart..... Sigh....
happy.gif

Good to hear that you didn't waste any of your precious Gonal F! Good job hubby!! Haha!
happy.gif

Soul, you are one of those few pple who are good in language and numbers! Most pple I know is good in either one. For myself, I love numbers but my language skill is just so so. My speaking skill is real bad, I'm not eloquent at all. Hubby always says my communication skill is lousy :p
Wow, your boy must hv inherited yr linguistic genes!

Tub, ivig is more like gold than gonal f, right? It cost about 1k+ for each infusion if I'm not wrong. My precious boy had undergone ivig treatments that's how I get to know abt it. How many infusion do u need for this entire ivf treatment?

Soul, I always admire people who like reading. I'm in a profession that forces me to read, like it or not... Hahaha... And I used to write for a living but I dun particularly like it or excel in it.

Jamp, it's worse than gold!!! Each infusion is calculated based on our body weight and height. So mine will cost 2300++ EACH time. If bfp, it will be once a month till 3rd tri or maybe till birth. I cannot stop working right? Lol... But that will be a happy problem. Deal with it when it comes...

Jamp and Tub... You ladies are so generous with your compliments! *Blush* I would very much like to be a turtle and retreat into my shell now... Hahahaha! Thank you... I am most humbled by your kind words
happy.gif
.

Jamp... Please give yourself more credit dear! I'm sure you aren't as bad as you have described yourself
happy.gif
. As for my son... Although biologically impossible, I would really like to declare that he's inherited 100% of my genes, not more nor less ;). Nothing to do with any specific "male" whatsoever. Hahaha! ;p

Bed time soon... The weekend is over... for most people ;p. I wish all you lovely ladies goodnight, and baby dreams! Baby dust to all!!! Ho Ho Ho!!! Lol!
happy.gif

Tub, wow, tat's really steep...but take heart, as u said, it's a happy problem
happy.gif
... Everything WILL go on smoothly for u, then spread bb dust to us all who need it here end of the month, yeah!!!

Soul, it's dinner/supper time for me, jux came bk from nite jog...

Accept the compliments, we aren't exaggerating anyway :p heehee

Busy busy grabbing yr bb dust, gonna get my vacuum cleaner to help me, hahahaha...

Ya, weekend's over...too fast...sleep tight, ladies
