Hi Chia,

From your description, the plan you have is either AXA's Mum's Advantage, or Prudential Pru First Gift, the only 2 insurers that provide a more comprehensive insurance against pregnancy complications for both mum and child.

The coverage is around $5,000 + hospital cash, thus may not be able to cover the entire bill. It can only help to offset some of the burden.

The advantage of these 2 plans is that the Investment-linked Policy that is required to be bought with it is able to transfer to the baby without any underwriting, even for the Critical Illness Rider. This is what I see as the most attractive feature for this plan, as some babies are borned with congenital defects thus make them un-insurable.

You can PM me if you need to clarify further.

I bought prufirstgift from prudential and i think this is a very good plan as the coverage can be transfer to the child after she is born. Moreover it covers complications and child congential illness.

Hi mummies,
I bought maternity coverage from Prudential before I got pregnant. Now am thinking of getting Pru first gift, as I'm abt 20wks now.
Better safe than sorry...

Hi,

I'm under Prudential.Should any mummy be keen to know more about Pru First Gift or etc and do not have an existing agent, you are welcome to throw questions to me at 82225541.

Anyway I am a mummy of 2. In case my nick is mistaken as a male.

Hi Jenny,
Just bought PruFirst Gift this week. I bought the basic coverage as after baby is born, still got to look into Shield plan etc. Still have the brochure which I can pass/email to you if you want.
Personally, both are about the same...deciding factor for me was the agent cos if I need 2 make claims(touch wood!), I prefer a more reliable person.
Can share more if you are keen. Pls pm me.

Hi mummies,

I applied for AXA and was being rejected as the doctor's memo did not specified clearly of what they requested. Furthermore, I had exceeded their entry period by 1 / 2days due to their slight delay. No chance of appeal. Although their coverage slightly better den pru but underwriting super strict.

*ANGRY*

Hi Luo,

I am surprised to hear that that AXA is so rigid. As EDD dates are all estimated, 1 or 2 days shouldn't make any difference. Furthermore, if they themselves exceed the entry date, much less for them not to take you in. There must be some misunderstanding somewhere.

Haiz. I was veri upset over this but Wat can I do. My Bb was hospitalised due to jaundice n g6pd. I could have claim for that 2 days if the policy is in-force.

Hi Jenny,

Shd be able to if there is hospitalization. U check with your agent.

Btw, u mean your boy has g6pd?
Do u happen to know if they can apply ru yi you?

My pd said not sure cos it's Chinese medication. :-(

How old is your boy? My gal is in her 4th week.
Did u bf him??

Are both of you g6pd carriers? Or your husbands? My hubby is g6pd. Based on my research, sons will not get it from the father, but if mother is a carrier then it will pass to her children. And for baby girls usually are just g6pd carriers, how come your girl is g6pd? Can share? Is it because husband is g6pd deficient and mum is a carrier? Or both are g6pd?

hi rachel

Actually I also don't know if I'm a carrier..I guess during our time, there wasn't such sophisticated test to chk this?

Are you delivering soon?

Jenny,
i got a son 2yo and tested not g6pd deficient so I guess his X-chromosome inherited from me is normal.
I'm expecting a girl (high probability), so it's almost 100% she will be a carrier according to the inheritance chart. So just wanna find out will there be a possibility she could be g6pd instead of a carrier. I also not sure if I'm a carrier. As far as I know, all males in my family has no g6pd, so im assuming chances that im a carrier is super low.

Hi Rachel,

My hubby is g6pd deficiency. I m not. Doc did mention that possibility to girls are veri low but mine gal still got it.

There is diff between carrier n g6pd deficiency??

Hi All,

Just for your info if you are thinking of getting a pregnancy insurance plan from AXA or Prudential.

If you are currently covered under AIA HealthShield Gold Max, you can claim for certain pregnancy complications, and new born baby of congenital issues. You can check your policy documents for the exact details, or check with your advisor. You may not need to spend the additional money on a pregnancy insurance plan, unless the intention is to get guarantee cover for your newborn of death and critical illnesses at birth, under an ILP plan.

Hi NTLIFA,

Thank you for your pointers above. I went to check my Shield Plan, indeed i am covered for Pregnancy Complications and Congenital Abnormalities (i bought NTUC Income's Enhanced IncomeShield Plan)

So i guess it's not exactly a necessary thing for me to get Pru or AXA's pregnancy plan..

Hi HappyBirthday,

IncomeShield covers 4 types of Pregnancy Complications, and do not cover the New-Born of Insured of any Congenital Abnormalities. From what I know, all other Shield Plans, except for AIA, have similar coverage.

As for AIA HealthShield Gold Max (their latest), they cover 6 types of Pregnancy Complications, and provide certain cover for new-born of insured for 24mths of Congenital Abnormalities. Which is why I singled out AIA plan.

Of course, the pregnancy plans cover other complications, so it really up to the everyone to decide if they like to take up the plans to complement their Shield Plan. And as mentioned, if the intention is to get the guarantee cover for new-born of death and CI at birth under ILP, it will be something really worth considering. A mummy had written a writeup regarding the risks and advantages of ILP in another thread (Click here to read)

You can PM me if you wish to discuss the topic further.
