Heavy bleeding in 5week ivf pregnancy

Hi i am 5w+ pregnant from ivf. I experienced red blood bleeding 2 days ago. It is enough to stain a pad and have several blood clots. Since then i went back to my gynae he said my progesterone intake was too low and up my progesterone intake and put me on bedrest. From the scan, the sac is visible but there are a sizeable portion of blood beside it inside my uterus.
After increasing my progesterone intake, the bleeding paused but on and off still have dark red blood. I am also feeling some cramps at the side and lower backache. Which seems like signs of miscarriage. Is my pregnancy doomed?

Anyone have relevant experience to share? Thanks

I have a 5AA embryo transplant. The progesterone prescribed by the gynae was on the low side and i started bleeding for 2 days on my 5week pregnancy. Now i am worried if those low progesterone days will impact the fetal growth and cause it to stop being viable.

Hopefully you will have your 6th week scan soon & will know more. Meanwhile, just focus on what you can do and don't worry too much!

Some women do bleed and cramp in early pregnancy and still go on to have healthy babies. Since your doctor adjusted your progesterone and advised bed rest, just follow that closely and check back if symptoms get worse. You’re not alone in this.

I went through something very similar during my first IVF pregnancy. Around 5–6 weeks, I had heavy red bleeding with clots — enough to soak a pad — and I was devastated, thinking it was all over. My scan showed a sac and what turned out to be a subchorionic hematoma (a blood pool next to the sac), which sounds a lot like what you described.

My doctor also increased my progesterone and put me on strict bed rest. The bleeding continued on and off for about two weeks — sometimes dark red, sometimes brown — and I had cramping and backache too. It was so scary.

But… things slowly settled down, and I went on to have a healthy baby. I just wanted to share that it’s not always the end, even when it feels like it. Keep resting, stay hydrated, and take it one day at a time. Thinking of you and sending lots of positive thoughts.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I am now in my 12 weeks and still pregnant. The spotting continues daily even until today but the blood pool has decreased inside the uterus. Thank you for your encouragement!

I had a similar experience after IVF with heavy bleeding and clots around 5–6 weeks. It turned out to be a subchorionic hematoma, and things eventually stabilized with rest and increased progesterone. It’s so hard, but try to take it day by day. Wishing you strength and a positive outcome
