My daughter, 3 yrs + 10 months was diagnosed with slight global delay, i.e. delay in speech & motor skills. She's able to speak 4-5 Chinese words in a sentence, able to regconise A-Z, no. 1-10, shapes, colours. However, she can't sit & learn properly in a class. Recently she is rejected by current school.

I'm currently looking for a preschool with therapies or a kindergarten with additional supports. Any good recommendation? or comments about:

1. Dynamics Therapy Centre for Kids

2. YWCA at Outram Nursery / Kindergarten / CVC

3. Bride Learning

4. Lee Kong Chian Gardens School

5. Tanglin School

I aware tt there are some early intervention programme centres from the government? How is it? Can the children back to mainstream primary school after attending the lessons in centres?

Thank you very much for all your help & reply.

for early intervention school you have to ask the specialist doc to refer her & the waiting list is super long so have to queue early

Thanks kokopooh & teenie,

Hi kokopooh, sorry to ask tt your boy has been diagnosed with any learning difficulties?

Just got another 3 preschool with special needs,

1. Kits4Kids

2. Divinity Especial Needs Intervention Centre

3. St. Clare School for special Education

+

4. Dynamics

Any comments for these 4 preschool? It's true tt the waiting lists for government centres are super long... at least 9 mths to 1 yr/

Thanks

Hi VL,

I'm too is looking for a preschool with special needs for my 3+ old who has SID and speech delay, currently on waitlist for EPIC and taking OT. Do you know of any good speech therapist?

VL,

it is possible for your kid to enter mainstream pri and sec sch. Most, if not all, MOE teachers r train w the basic to handle students w special needs.

but this is possible if the learning difficulties are mild and the IQ is normal. dun worry, i've autistic, ADHD, physical disabiliy and speech problem students in school.

however, do work closely w the sch n specialists to monitor the child for the best effect.

Anyone know of any nursery in school or church which accepts slight ASD kids in NE district? Doc advise to still continue so she gets a chance to see how normal kids interact.

Kokopooh - can I know is raffles preschool the same as raffles montessori?

My son is 3 yrs 4 mths n is talking but not on par as his peers so he actually has speech delay jus like VL whereby he got no problem saying colors, numbers, a-z etc but do ve problems with expressing himself like telling what he wants etc. I too looking for preschool for him. He used to b Gug but their teachers have issues with him not talking or not responding to their qns. I know he learns but he not communicating or interacting with kids n teachers. He is now with montessori for children but I'm worried there's too much of individual work that will hinder his poor social skills even more. So is there any suggestions for other normal preschool who r ok with such kids n is of low class ratio?

Forgot to mention he is attending therapy also.

cyn here,

suggest you talk/check out regular with your child teacher, let them know your goals, if there's no progress, you should consider switching school.

My child (4 yr old) is currently at kits4kids, ratio is 4 in a class vs 14 in normal preschool. They set half goals for him after initial observation. With additional OT and Speech therapies, I do observe some improvements.

Ggg - thanks for ur reply. What do u mean by the school set "half" goals? I'm bringing him for assessment at kits4kids later today. So Ur son has speech n what other problems?mine has speech n poor social skills, he is waiting for his appt fix by Polyclinic with nuh for diagnosis. So does ur boy attend normal preschool as well? I heard of some mummies sending their boys to normal n special schools as well as therapies. I'm not sure will it b too hectic for my boy since he still take afternoon naps.

Today the school teacher told me my son is better off in a smaller class, Either change him to the afternoon smaller class (if the school is ok) or we go elsewhere. [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/sad.gif]

Btw what are ot for? My boy only taking language intervention therapy which is similar to speech therapy.

Thanks

cyn here, can I know how much do you have to pay for your assessment at kits4kids? Do you know how much is the school fees monthly?

Lexnchris - assessment is free, it's for them to see where the child stand, what he can do what he can't do, where r the issues so that they know which class to go n what goals to set. The mthly fees depend on frequency. Half day class if 3x per wk is $650/mth b4 gst, if 5x per wk is $750 b4 gst. They ve 2x per wk for 2hrs per session at $400. But these r for integrated class, not sure abt the early intervention class.

Hi mommies,

how old are your kids? if your kids still young like 3-4 yrs old, i would advice you get the refer letter from polyclinic & wait for specialist appt at KKH. afterthat you can get place for early interventio program (EPIC) although the timing will take longer, but i can say that it's worth it due to

1) save $$, u may need to spend a lot of $$ on all those therapy. EPIC programme fee will base on you household income. the lowest fee will b $200 per mth.

2) They do engage those private therapy school to provide OT in the centre for EIPIC programme.

anyone here who has sent their kids to Metta or Kits4kids? Are they the same type of school? They are not meant for academic right? so still need to go for normal preschool?

pls share. thanks! [IMG=http://www.singaporemotherhood.com/forumboard/clipart/happy.gif]

Would like to know how many mummies here go back to the workfield just for the sake of getting your child to a private special school.

Mission: I'mPossible is a pilot program and it's ending in April 2012. Also it's for children who are not diagnosed with autism.

Hi Mommies,

Can I check if your child go to both EPIC centre and private special needs school?

My son went for EPIC centre screening yesterday and they advised us against private special needs school at the same time. They say my son may be tired to go for both.

I am keen for my son to go for both so that he get more help instead of stay at home and watch tv with his grandma. Though finances are stretched, I will work harder :)
