Are flashcards really helpful to kids? Does it help enhance the memory of a child in the long run?

how about interactive educational games? many kids learn more (and retain better) by doing or playing, instead of memorizing.

Hmm...what I did was to play memory games with my girls using the toys from Rush Hour.
