Dear Mummies,

Need some advice on what to do.
Went for my check up at 28 weeks at Thomson Medical with Dr Sim and she mentioned my baby's abdominal slightly small. She mentioned that 28 weeks fetus usually weigh 1.3kg but for my baby she is 1.13kg. Slightly smaller maybe because I am a small size mum to be and my little girl will also be small but Dr Sim had arranged me to do another detail scan to ensure everything is fine.

Mummies,
anyone could advice me on this issued. I hoping everything will be fine after this coming 30th scanning
.

Dont need to worry at all. The weight is just a guideline and if ur bb is just a little lower than the usual weight, is totally fine. Just remember, every baby is different, just like us.. my baby was abit smaller than the usual weight. As long as he is healthy, then u shouldnt b too worried.

Thank you mummy for the prompt reply.
Seriously I am quite worried.
I tried to drink pregnancy milk powder every night and I've tried to take 4 meals a day just to boost fats for her.
Hopefully she grow well... I bet all mothers are the same. If anything happen to our little ones we are sure to be
the one who get panic and worry. I am first time mum to be therefore I am worried and that is why I am here to seek
for opinion and suggestion on what to do and seek for those mummies who also encountered the similar cases like me.

Thank you so much for getting back to me :)

im a first time mum too! Can understand how u feel.. hmm what worked for my case was durian n avocado. Baby's weight increase a little.. My appetite was very very bad and i hardly finish a normal portion of rice. I was quite desperate cos i was at risk for preterm labour.. u might wanna try drinking avocado milk too :)

My girl has always been tiny from fetal to toddlerhood . All
Along along the 10-25th percentile growth. Came out at week36 at 2.1 kg. tiny kitten . Now a pint size toddler too but developing well.

Hello,

There is a a doctor call Dr Anandas at Camden medical center, his ultrasound scan skill is suppose to be very good. Not cheap but quite many mummy rave about his ultrasound scan ability. If you want a 2nd detail scan to be carried out, you can consider his service.

Hello~

I'm a first time mummy and in the same situation even now at my 34th week of pregnancy.

Since the 22nd week, my baby boy has been at the brim of dropping out of the graph. And was exactly at the lowest point of the "expected" healthy weight at my 28th week. But my gynae has been all along positive and assuring about it because all other aspects are actually in good shape like ample amniotic fluid, good blood flow in his umbilical cord and good growth of other parts of his body and organs. My gynae explained that the graph and all the "expected figures" act only as guidelines and everyone is different. Some babies are just meant to be small, he even said I can try out the "eat more" method but it's not scientifically proven to help if your baby is meant to be a small foetus. Even if my baby's weight drops out of the graph but there are no complications or signs that he is not growing normally then at most he is a tiny baby at birth (which I myself was a tiny baby weighing 2.5kg years back). I trust my gynae and now even though still kind of tiny (34th week - 2kg) my boy is this super active monkey flipping and rolling, day and night in me! So I feel kind of assured, not bothered about his weight anymore.

Then again, I understand the anxiety of wanting to do more for your baby at times like this. I told my family about it and almost everyday, I have steam cod fish and black chicken soup on my menu. I have had 5 small meals (forcing myself to eat) a day eating practically anything I read that is good in boasting his weight growth, I've also tried eating healthy fats like avocado but honestly not working! At one point I totally gave up and just eat what I crave for (which is unhealthy because I crave for french fries most of the time) and guess what? His weight improved slightly, it went back up on the graph! Not saying it will work but having food that you crave makes one really happy and probably my mood affects him too? Now, I think he is a happy baby growing well in me even though pretty much "underweight" with me gaining 17kgs already :( haha!

But all in all if you are really worried, like suggested by other mummies, hopefully trying out another scan may ease you~

Good luck! Stay positive & happy! :)

Hi mummy, my baby was also v small at 28 weeks scan but caught up eventually. The baby was still born small, 2+ kg... But drank a lot of milk in the first few months of life. Within 1 month, baby reached 50th percentile, and next month already 97th percentile.
Think it is better to be born small, then make up for it after birth... Than born big (sometimes got complications, esp if u have GD).
Don't worry, if ur doctor is confident, u can rest easy.

Hi mummies,

Just to check if any one of your gynaes mentioned baby was small for Gestational age and sent u to do another scan at e fetal growth clinic for low percentile and reduced growth velocity as a precautionary check?

From what i understand the scan is to basically assess blood flow to baby and whether nutrients are reaching baby. Sounds scary aldy. Need some positive stories.

Thanks for sharing if u are able to!

My boy had small abdominal circumference too. Even now at 5 he's still quite skinny. Everthing will be fine. No worries

Dear mummies,

Went for my detail scan at 30weeks 5days on 30/03/2016, my little girl also at the lowest point of the graph at 5 centile.
She weigh approximately about 1.34kg at 30weeks 5days and my gynae estimated her due weight to be 2.3kg-2.4kg.
I am pretty worry again, and I have slight gestational diabetes. Results were 140 which hit the maximum acceptable range.
If I were to control my diet, my baby won't be getting any bigger therefore I somehow ignore what gynae said and I take durians to boost her weight.
Quite she might come out earlier than expected. If so, She might be weighing less than 2kg. I try estimating my little girl's growth based on the last
measuring weight every 2 weeks when visit my gynae. She gain about 170g every 2 weeks. Therefore, not intend to control my diet for the sake of my little
precious. Not sure whether am I doing the right thing but I didn't want her to be a premiee baby.

Hi charlottejulie,

Seems like we are on the same boat. I have Gestational Diabetes and my little girl measuring small. Gynae sent me for the detail scan coming 28/04/2016 also to ensure the blood flow to baby and nutrients are good. Otherwise probably she will suggest to induced my baby. Sound pretty scary because she not even 2kg. Was pretty worried.[/QUOTE]

I also had bad morning sickness. I puke every morning when I brush my teeth and at my worse days, it actually came out from my nose and mouth.
My pregnancy had been very difficult compared to other pregnancy mum-to-be but been telling myself everything worth after she's born with good health.
Hope my little girl will be fine. praying hard.

Hi mummy, I'm not sure whether not controlling your diet is the best way to go. Gestational diabetes can lead to birth complications if not managed properly. You should speak to your gynae the best way to boost your Lil girl's weight. Good luck to you!

I think u better check with ur doctor. Not controlling diet may have serious medical implications for both u and baby.
Why not eat more protein instead of durians?

Thanks mummies for the prompt reply.
my gynae did told me to eat more proteins food. I eating too but she say durians will help to boost Baby's weight.
Only for mum who have GD not advisable to take...but 1 to 2 bite of durians should be ok right?
Ok, maybe I check with my gynae and see what she say.

durians can also causes skin problems in the baby i heard... So i didn't really dare to eat.

Serious? I never heard of that. MY gynae told me to try durians if my GD results ok.
She said many of her patient told her durian help boosting baby's weight.

Hi Hui ping,

Yea my coming scan is actually next week 11/4. I don't have GD, but have been spamming durians everyday for this 3 weeks hoping for the best outcome for the scan. My appetite aint huge nor any bigger compared to pre-pregnancy and i'm a small eater to start with, i hope is because i'm not eating enough hence the small size and that increasing my calorie diet will do the trick. I have gained perhaps 2 kg from pre-preg weight so far at 28 weeks, and i'm underweight for a start so gynae said looking at my size wldn't be a big baby also.

I guess we both have the same worries and our ultimate goal is to deliver a healthy baby, and not have to induced blah blah. I was equally worried and was tearing when i heard all these worst case scenarios but my gynae was very reassuring and he said it is just a precautionary scan, dun think so far and e worst but oh wells how not to worry? Stay positive, smaller nvm, come out can plump up.

When is ur edd? Diet wise like what e others mention, check w ur gynae if in doubt, as GD is also something u need to balance w concurrently. Hope i'm not too intrusive :)

.

My baby was 950gm on my last scan in 28 weeks. Doc say is slightly smaller but still in range and ask me not to worry so much.

I have also slight GD, cut off was 7.7 and I got 7.8. Was thinking how to increase baby weight since i have to cut carbs and sugar.

For now, i'm still having carbs but maybe lesser, have more meals and drink avacado milk shake without sugar. Dont dare to have durians for now till the next checkup.

Fyi, im not even a small size build but the opposite but my gynae seems quite chill about it and told me sometimes the weight will just increase at a later stage

Jia you to all mummies who gave GD or any other pregnancy symptom. This forum is well created for mummies like us to share our experience and advice to one another. I sincerely thanks all mum to be for your kind advice here and shall update one another on any other pregnancy issued
