Down syndrome

Hi, im 12 weeks pregnant and is my 1st pregnancy. The Oscar scan showed im on high risk of getting a down syndrome baby.. Was thinking either Harmony test or CVS test to get more accurate result... Any advice pls.. Thank you

My scan was normal but when combined with blood test, the possibility became 1:98. I chose to go for CVS and result came back as normal but I was traumatised for many days by the CVS procedure. The syringe needle was so long, like a long ruler and stabbed straight into your tummy. I would not want to experience it again. I heard there is a Prof Anada at Camden Medical who is specialised in this. He could check with just ultrasound to know the result. Maybe you want to check other threads. There are discussions on this b4. Good luck. Don't worry too much. Many mummies experienced fake positive with this Oscar test.

Harmony test is worth taking. Non invasive and 99% accurate. 3 of my friends got high risk from oscar and went for harmony. Results out in a wk. $1200.

Camden i went too for is jus ultrasound. But at 12 weeks cant see much till 13-14 wks detailed scan.

Dion83 thks for the advice.. I was caught between harmony and cvs but my gynae kept rushing me for my decision.. Harmony test result is just show high risk or low risk.. I'm superb worried so i want test to determine whether my baby is normal or abnormal so i decided to go for cvs on this cumin Wednesday.. Im superb nervous amd worrieed now..

Thks all mummies for sharing.. I've decided to go for cvs which will be on the cumin Wednesday.. Im super duper worried about the test procedures n the result as well!!! :-( fingers crossed everything will b fine..

Hi mummies, can i ask if any one has any experience with a slightly shorter nasal bone length measured at 20th week Fetal Anomaly scan ? I had my scan at 19week 4 days and it measures 4.1mm, the 5th percentile to hit is 4.5mm, this is the only marker that was flagged , and doctor says it may be linked to DS, I am so worried. I did my Harmony test but the results will only come back in 2 weeks time, the wait is so agonizing and I hope someone can share their experience with me here, thank you so much!

Hi baby yebin,

What is your rating? My is 1:38 just got the result yesterday was very Sad. My gynae advice me to go for amnio or harmony test I'm very stress and don't even can sleep well at all. I'm worry about my baby.

Hi baby yebin,

I just went for my harmony test this morning can't sleep well at all if i didn't make an decision to do test so we decide to go for harmony I really pray with my baby everyday now and I hope the result must turn good.

Think the result out soon, pray hard! All the best Celine!

Harmony test is safe and accurate. I did it too! Don't get too stress about it, you will be fine and your baby too :)

Hi mummies, I just want to share my experience..
I had my 1st preg last year and the oscar result was high risk, 1/24..
Both scan and blood test result shown high risk.the NT was like sky high 4.5 and the baby intestine was build outside the abdominal wall..
With all these symptoms, gynea not even advise me to go for further test I.e. Harmony test!
Thus, i want to tell mummies as long as the scan result from oscar test is fine..v should not hesitate to go for further test as oscar fake positive is quite high..

Hello friends,

I' am 27 year old and EDD is 05/2016. I' am in my 13th week now and completed the Down Syndrome test (OSCAR).

Unfortunately my Trisome 21 had a negative result.

I have been advised to take Prenatal Harmony test now.

We are very worried now.

Please share your experience or probability to have a good result after taking Prenatal Harmony test.

Hi, I actually need advice from other mummies to be here on Amino fluid test.
I have just got my result for the down syndrome fm combination of my ultrasound and blood test result. The ultrasouNd NT and Nasal bone was okay. When the result combined with my age ie 36yrsold, I got high risk result for my down syndrome. Result come out to be trisomy 21 1:131, Trisomy 13 1:212. My gynae advise me to go for the amino fluid test. Any mummies had experience on this and kind to share. Thanks.

You took the OSCAR test right? Dun worry too much, OSCAR test is famous for its fake positive result. My #1 and #2 also got 1:98 & 1:134 when combined with blood test, etc. Ultrasound result itself was low risk. Maybe you want to consider taking harmony or panorama test which only required blood test and it is 99% accurate? CVS and amino test have miscarriage risk of 3%. I took CVS for #1 as there is no harmony/panorama test avail at that time. The test procedure was too traumatized for me. For #2, I took panorama test. Both results came back as normal.

I recently did the amnio test as my OSCAR results were not great. But we thought it made sense to do a diagnostic test to be sure rather than another probability test. Plus, my gynae is very experienced and known to be very skillful in amnio, and my sis also went through amnio with the same gynae and all turned out fine. So we were confident going ahead with it. The procedure was quick and not as traumatic as you would imagine it to be.

BTW, the known risk of miscarriage is 0.5%.

The plus is we got our results for down syndrome and gender in 3 days. Within 2 weeks we will know the results for the other genetic disorders that the amnio tests for.

Whether or not you choose to proceed with amnio really depends on individual. Very importantly, you would need to assess how experienced your gynae is. For us, we prayed about it and felt the peace to go ahead with it.

Seems like the high risk result for down syndrome is quite normal. Based on the combination of my blood test and scan, my result for down syndrome is 1:25! I also went for amnio test and will be getting my results tml. However, I am positive that everything will be okay and to all mummies out there, your baby will be fine too! :)

So hows your result?

Good! Results passed! But that day scan and doc said that my baby's shit is dilated! D: And need to scan agn 2 weeks later to observe! Am not sure why like that. But gynae said nothing to worry abt.

Congrats Carebear on the good result. Amnio is suppose to be 100% accurate. If you pass mean should be all is well especially gynae also say nothing to worry about. You can finally sleep peacefully le. Happy for you. :)

Hello,

First thing first, that nurse have no right to decide which test for you. It is a choice your hubby and yourself should take after discussion, pros and cons and price etc. If the nurse got the gut to decide CVS for you, you should ask her whether the CVS test fee can deduct from her salary.

To make thing easier for you. 1st question. Are you willing to accept even a 0.0001% chance of MC due to test? If the answer is a NO. Then automatically you can rule out CVS and Amino. Beco both of this got a tiny chance of MC.

You are then left with risk free test like Oscar, Harmony, panorama, genetic scan by Dr Ananda (I do not work or relate to Dr Ananda, in fact i have yet to use his service, but got good review of him in the forum, that is if you decide to trust review in forum in the first place)

Out of the 4 remaining tests that i mention, Oscar is the cheapest and naturally least accurate (90% accuracy). It combine a ultrasound scan + blood test + your age to predict whether you are high or low risk. Cost about $400

Harmony, Panorama test are fairly similar product by different company. Price will range from $900 to $2000 depending on which clinic you go to and also whether you take up addition test for some infrequent but nonetheless very nasty problem. Accuracy is 99% and bonus is you get to know the gender of your baby. It is a pure blood test, your blood sample will be send to the respective lab in USA to screen.

Genetic scan cost about $600, it is basically a detail ultrasound scan that Dr Ananda will perform himself and try to estimate the risk level of the baby having down syndrome.

The above will cover easily 90% of the available tests in the market currently.

Last but not least, if your hubby and yourself belong to the category that no matter the health condition of the baby will also die die must give birth to the baby, then i recommend you skip ALL the above test because the test result is totally irrelevant to you and save a lot of $$$ as you can see these test are amazingly expensive although i understand some of the price have already came down drastically.

Hope the above will help to kickstart your quest to find the best test(s) that meet your family unique needs.

Cheers

Hello,

I am happy to help. Having a baby is a personal & joint decision by your hubby & yourself. Good to discuss with him then make a joint decision on the test(s) you want to go for.

All the best. Jia you

cyee, just to share I went for oscar test and was told that my baby has high risk for down syndrome (1:25). Similar to what you have in mind, we wouldn't want to see my baby suffer nor able to take care of the child for whole life, hence, we decided to go for the amino test to confirm my baby is fine. and it turn out that everything is fine! :) So not to worry too much.

Do update us after you have undergo the test. :)

hi mummies,

if we opt to do the panorama test now, if all goes well (fetal chromosomal abnormalities is low risk). does it mean we do not have to do the scan again in week 20?

Week 20 scan is totally different from NIPT (panorama, igene, harmony, etc). All tests are optional for parents to be of course but if you may Google, week20 scan is one of the most important scans during pregnancy. While NIPT picks up possibly chromosome issues, mid pregnancy scan looks in detail at the baby's bones, heart, brain, spinal cord, face, kidneys and abdomen.

I won't skip this scan at all.

Hello,

20week is a detail scan to see whether he or she is developing well. Most , if not all mummy will go for this scan

thank you redvel & aaa111 for your reply. i am in a dilemma which tests to choose now.. i'm a first time mummy & above 35.

Hello,

Still dilemma? Hmm hmm, did you have the chance to read on of my earlier post in this thread? I thought it was fairly clear? Nonetheless, feel free to share your dilemma points, I am sure many mummy here can help. Most important is to discuss with your hubby and make a joint decision.

I am trying to Guess your source of dilemma below:

1) cost concern ==> go for Kkh fts ( this is their version of Oscar)

2) money no problem ==> do paranoma or harmony plus genetic scan

3) must know 100% ==> go straight for amino test (note got tiny risk of MC)

4) die die must give birth regardless test result ==> skip all test. Dun waste time & $$$

Jia you

Hi, does anyone.know.If harmony scan.allow hubby to watch e scan or I have.to go in alone? Will be doing e scan at kkh private. If hubby have to stay outside e room then will not ask hubby to go with me.

Harmony is blood test only. No scan.

Perhaps you're referring to OSCAR or NT scan? Yes your other half can be there to enjoy the moment.

Thks redvel for e reply. I was told to do counselling and scan as I opt for harmony test. Will need to spend about 2 hours (mayb include waiting time). So what is e scan for? I'm only in my week 13. Will only see gynae on 6/2.

Likely it's NT scan. Because doc wants me to do NT scan, coupled with the Harmony test. They are both standalone tests.

You have been scheduled a long duration for the scan to buffer non cooperative baby. Heh. If the bb is in "wrong" position, you may be needed to go clear bladder or walk around etc hopefully for the bb to turn to capture the right angles. But if bb is right on spot from the start, the scan can be quite quick (also depends on the sonographer).

JAPL, I just read that your scan is on 6Feb. Are you at 13weeks now or you'll be 13weeks by then? The dates don't seem to gel for the NT scan nor harmony blood test if it's the former (too late).

Have you drawn blood for Harmony already?

Hello,

Harmony test i think can be done as early as 9 or 10 week preggies. Blood will send to USA to analysis. Typically take 3 week before they will give you the result. Harmony can be done as late as you want but not earlier then 9 or 10 weeks. Reason being if you do too early, the baby DNS have not mix into your blood and that is one reason why in rare cases that the result will be inconclusive. I understand that if mummy who is doing the panoroma test with KKH end up with inconclusive result, they will call you back again to draw blood and send to the lab again. The only consolation is that the 2nd time draw blood is FOC.

jia you

Are u with KKH? Thought usually they did their NT scan around 12 weeks. Or you are going for a genetic scan? If genetic wld be around 14 weeks.

I did my genetic scan last week when I am 14 weeks and harmony test when I am just 12 weeks

Hi, Did your Harmony test result come out in time for you to bring it along with you for the 14 week genetic scan? Your genetic scan with Dr Ananda?

Thank you.

Hi I have my harmony results before the scan by dr Ananda but didn't think of brining the results to show him . Results was good but during scan dr said my gal has a short nasal bone ... The only adnormalty found, the rest all good. This is similar to my elder daughter . Dr ananda advised to go for harmony test but guess I was confused upon hearing the scan results ... I did n't inform him about my test result.
Are u doing a scan with him too?

Hello,

Yup, i will be going to draw blood for panaroma this week and then meeting Dr Ananda in the middle of Feb for the genetic scan. When i was talking with the nurse over the phone about my plan, she say if the panaroma result is out, it is good to bring along to show Dr Ananda.

Are you saying that Dr anandas advise you to go do a harmony test you have already did?

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I didn't tell dr ananda about my harmony result. He suggested harmony because of my daugher's short nasal bone.
I have the same observation during my elder daughter's scan .
